Went to the Verizon store to get my droid unlocked only to have the tech people there input different codes that did not work and the security feature unexplained. I went to try the sim and within a few tries it was locked.
Tech support has given me the sim network code that goes with the phone now that it is subsidy locked.

you mean unlocked?
I have looked at the steps on Sd Shadow's site about flashing and rooting the phone and have gone so far as to download and install the motorola drivers (signed by microsoft?). The device now shows in device manager as an ADA interface.
I have tried flashing with rsd lite, only to hear several sounds as if the device is reconnecting and see flash failure at 6/18 partition.
Am I using an incomplete .Xml?
The Fast boot version is 0A.53 and the xml downloaded from http...........://......................motofirmware.center/files/ was
VRZ_XT862_5.5.1_84_D3G-55_1FF_01.xml.zip

That should be fine, did you verify md5 checksum?
Haven't seen anyone trying to unblock for use with Pure Talkusa. I don't know if it makes any difference what third-party carrier i decide to go with.

The carrier must use bands that are compatible with the Droid 3
see TECHNOLOGY section http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Motorola-DROID-3_id5305
and see if bands match the carrier you want to use.
I have used three different cords for the flashing, one of them does not "wiggle" in the ports like the others, but it is an older cord.
I am using Windows 7

The phone had become locked by the time I knew what to ask for.
Codes match. I am using Rsd lite v.6.1.5. I remember seeing somewhere that it will work with that carrier. I can't post pictures, but Rsd shows "N/A" for all the device properties, though in the bottom box under model it shows "fastboot CDMA_solana s"
Could this be a driver's issue. Too many extra non Motorola drivers? I installed the remaining network adaptor and modem drivers.

That should be correct. You only need to use RSD Lite, if you have a custom rom installed, or the phone will not boot correctly.
If stock rom is work goodm you can skip to next step

I have rooted. Verizon is not giving out any pin numbers that will work. Is there a software work around for this Sim Network Unlock Pin? There is no contract for the droid 3. I picked it up on Amazon. I can still access the menus.

you have tried unlock codes?

if you are seeing "The phone is subsidy locked. Please contact...",
an incorrect code was entered too many times, and the phone has locked you out.
even if to get the enter code screen again, and have the correct unlock code, I don't think it will work.
Because of the way the phone was locked, every droid 3 has 3 or more possible unlock codes, only one of them will actually work.
there is no point entering the same code more than twice.

Just rooted it with the 1 click root by http.......//www.psouza4.com/droid3/unbrick.htm
Unless that isnt a real root process.
I am thinking that it is likely that once it is subsidy locked no other codes will work.

This code may not work. If you enter the unlock code wrong to many times or if it gives you the wrong unlock code your phone may become bricked. By continuing you will take full responsibility for any damage. I am not liable
Prep:
Make sure that Network Lock is the only thing on... go to phone and enter *#7465625#
Make sure USB debugging is enabled (Settings->Applications->Development->USB Debugging)
Step 1: get the code
For Mac
Download the Samsung Galaxy S Unlocker
Mount the DMG and drag the folder onto the hard drive. DO NOT DRAG THE ICON WITH THE LOCK (the app). Once the file is finished copying continue.
Open the application with the lock. It should open a terminal window. Let it run for a few seconds and then it should show the unlock code
Save/write down the code
Jump to step 2.
For Windows
Download and extract the attached Galaxy S unlocker windows.
Run Generate_Code.bat
Look for the line Network Control Key:YourCode
Save the code
Jump to step 2.
Step 2: Entering the code
Power down your phone
Put in a SIM card from another carrier
Power up your phone
When it boots up it will ask for the unlock code that you found above
Now enter the unlock code you generated in Step 1.
Have fun!
Step 3: Flash back (IF THE CODE WAS UNSUCCESSFUL)
Flash back to an older firmware.

My intentions weren't meant to be misunderstood as "Trolling for cash", but more exposure for the free unlocking solution.
I know there are some here that visit multiple sections of the forum, but some are more "loyal" to their own.
So I take it this unlock doesnt survive an Odin flash back to stock. If not we can just re-enter the same code Im guessing

This is an old build! Please see the updated build (1.29.651.10) located here.
Here is an almost stock 1.29.651.7 ROM, both Odex and Deodex, based on my Sprint One system dump. I flashed both and everything appears to work fine. If anyone finds an issue, I will correct it and re-upload. You can flash this right after you flash TWRP (read below), as this has root and system rw protection already disabled (read here).

Pretty excited to see you here Viper, always liked both your and mikey's roms on my various phones. Happy to see you come over!
So at this point is there any value in waiting for root/s-off without dev unlock or should we just take the plunge when our phones get here Friday? I had S-off on my 4GLTE but read there were issues for those that had to S-on/dev unlock. Just don't want to be in that position although I don't know much about what they had to deal with specifically.
Thanks again for creating roms!

Also, can you test to see if wireless tether is working now that you have root access? I have a tradeshow I will be traveling to next week and would really love to not have to pay for internet in my hotel and on the tradeshow floor.
Thanks!

It's always nice to have S-OFF, but right now, it doesn't seem like it's going to be a big deal. I worked around the goofyness of recovery not being able to write the boot.img, I do it a different way and know it works for sure so there should be no issues when flashing ROMs.
As far as wifi tether, I just fired it up. Grabbed the latest from the Play Store, and changed 3 settings to make it work.
Settings > Change Device Profile > Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Check MSS Clamping
Check Routing fix
I also enable access control so I can see who is connecting, but I successfully got my computer to get online by using this.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but I think I quite clearly explained how this was different from "out of the box" in the first post.
The only other thing that would be different is that it's missing some apps that were in /data/app. HTC thought it would be a good idea to put these apps there (for whatever reason) but when you dev unlock, it wipes data and those apps. This was a problem on the International One as well. I will try to get that fixed here too, but I don't remember the apps being anything too important.

Sorry for the super newb question but would it be possible for someone to write up a basic guide on how to get this working (rooting then installing one of these stock ROMs from this thread)? I am use to having a device with a microSD card slot so not quite sure how to flash zips especially after doing a superwipe. From what I gather, the steps go something like this:
1. HTC dev unlock
2. Use the Toolkit to flash TWRP
3. Use the Toolkit to "Perm Root." Does this just push SuperSU.zip to the device then do I need to actually go in and run it from recovery? Or will it do that automatically?
4. Do a superwipe. Do I just copy the superwipe file to the device then run it from recovery? I assume this file completely wipes the device so not even the OS is present?
5. Install the deodex or odex ROM from this thread but how do I do that without a microSD card slot?
Again, sorry about all the basic questions but if someone wouldn't mind coming up with a detailed step by step guide for the newbs, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There is many threads on this already. The easiest way to unlock is with a paid code (10-20$ US). You must be 100% stock or as close as possible to stock to be able to sim-unlock.

Everything in there is paid. And as a search result commentator I want to say that I dont want to and I won´t pay. I did this for the sprint version which was supposedly the most difficult phone to unlock. Why is it that the GSM version is payable and not the (mostly) CDMA which I know is practically the same phone.?
How can I unlock this POS without giving my money to some A'hole scammer and totally free with the existing HTCONE SimUnlock and some Stock Rooted rom? Thanks...

Funny how people can afford a 600$ phone but they absolutely don't want to pay 5$ more for an unlock code (no offenses)

S-OFF then
use SIEEMPI method like for the HTC amaze.
In some cases, the carrier can also unlock the phone for free.
if you can't s-off, then there is nothing to do, unless you change your mind and pay for a code.
good luck :fingers-crossed:

There is many threads on this already. The easiest way to unlock is with a paid code (10-20$ US). You must be 100% stock or as close as possible to stock to be able to sim-unlock.

as close as possible to stock, some members used sense based ARHD rom to sim-unlock with a code. otherwise you'll need to go back to stock and unlock with the code, or s-off and use the sieempi method

So I need to s-off then use sieempi, but I'm wondering if I can install Firewater with CM11? The guide I found says I need ARHD because of the unsecured kernel needed to get S-off.
htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-to/set-your-htc-one-s-off-using-firewater-any-computer-0151230
I can't find any info saying that CM11 is also unsecured that allows S-off with Firewater.

Yes you can use it. Just try it doesn't bite.
If you get "whelp that sucks........."then your device cannot be S-Offed for now as the message says.
Haha, very good. Just didn't want to break anything

SD Init Fail
That's the error I get when I select SIMLOCK. I used Windows to navigate to the root of the SD card and dropped the Config.dat in there.
I bought a OTG cable and then found out that I need an external drive that's powered so I could flash the config.dat.
Spliced a quick and dirty Y-OTG cable and was able to SIM unlock! Yay
any one have luck with a converted to GPE edition M7?

use a Y-OTG cable with a HDD formatted in FAT32
Hey guys, quick conundrum, and I want to make sure I'm taking the right steps.
I purchased an M7 for my dad, but I unlocked the bootloader and installed Slimkat before I typed in my SIM unlock code.
I've read in here that I have to restore the phone to stock.. Do I need to address the S-ON/OFF issue, or can I safely keep it S-ON if I don't intend to return it for service at this time? Will an ARHD based ROM allow me to do the unlock as was mentioned here?
I searched this topic but didn't find an exact answer re: the S status and SIM unlocks.
Didn't want to start a new thread, so I tagged it on here...

I was thinking about giving it a try myself, but the site looked pretty shifty. I noticed someone had also mentioned this on the regular S6 page and was also seeking confirmation on the legitimacy of it. If I didn't use my phone for work, I would jump on this in a heartbeat. Future thanks to the brave soul that dives first.
I can't find *any* verified success with that app on *any* device. It seems like a slick way to get some malware, but that's about it. I won't be the first to try it anyway.

I downloaded that software and 1: it couldn't connect to their "server" and hen windows defender found malware in it humorously called ZergRush. If you don't get it, look it up on Google. You will get a fun game where little "viruses" attack your searches. If you haven't gotten it yet. I can't help you. Haha ?
Downloaded.. installed. Virus software freaked.. said to ignore it.. ran it.. says it rooted but ... I see nothing different on the phone.. it's likely whatever this is may be for the prior update? Says it's for the latest build but I get nowhere.. says it's rooted and done but.. nothing.. likely fake.

It says 'Sorry! Root acess is not properly installed on this device' .. so I have no idea what this SRSRoot even does. Wish I knew more about this stuff so I could check to see if the files included in the installer are even legit. It's likely fake.. What they're getting out of it I have no idea. But the fact we don't have root from the usual places tells me there's no way these clowns figured it out. Like I said, I wish I knew how to do this because I would actively be looking for an exploit or whatever it takes to get root.. I just feel if there's someone actively trying to root, it's not a priority. Could they have really locked it down this tight? I find that highly unlikely.. The bootloader sure, but root? Every device I've had was able to be rooted..

I don't know, as I think it was the note 3 that was just barely rooted.
But I heard there was an exploit found for qualcomm devices that can give root access. So it's just a wait to see if it will work for our devices.

True.. it's just so annoying. They'll likely find root for the S7 ... who knows, maybe it's chip based? The main reason I want root is because I've switched to ATT and the LTE band in my area is on Band 4 ... The S6 Edge from Verizon will work on the LTE band here perfectly but I need root to make the phone use LTE only. Currently, if I put my ATT SIM in it will connect to LTE fine, but once I get a text, call or whatever, it switches back to the H+ which isn't bad, but it's not LTE either..
Ah, I see.
Well, I'm just hoping that theyou find a way to get root access, especially since the AT&T variant just recently achieved temp root. So who knows, maybe in less than a month it could work for us too.

So I have searched and can't find a definitive answer, I know the boot loader can't be unlocked after the its update, but is it still possible to root the phone?
No. Bootloader unlock is necessary for root. Verizon still owns your phone.

OK. Sorry, didn't mean to sound mad. The working theory we had was when people take the SUTL-49 as an update, for some Droid Turbos for some reason, something isn't completely being updated. So, it's like a hybrid of SUTL-44 and SUTL-49 -- and Sunshine fails. Re-flashing complete SUTL-49 fixes the issue.
But it has been asked a half dozen times...
Maybe @TheSt33v could add a note that if people are on SUTL-49 they don't need to flash SUTL-44. He wrote that excellent guide before SUTL-49 came out and adapted it to also include that, but I see where a lot of the instructions are flashing SUTL-44, so that may confuse people?
He's helped a lot of people! So, if it is a little confusing that was not his intention. He's gone above and beyond.

Section 0 says that if you are on either SU4TL-49 or -44, you should proceed directly to the unlocking step without flashing anything. However, since that is unclear to a lot of people (and I guess I can kind of see why), I'll try to remember to reword it when I get a spare second.
As for flashing 44 instead of 49, I kept that for 2 reasons. The first reason is that the full firmware package for SU4TL-49 does not include a batch file that performs all of the flashing steps for you. The package for SU4TL-44 does. The second reason is that since sunshine works on either version, and the only people who should be following that step are people below -44, there's no practical reason to change it. I suppose I could write a batch file to include in the firmware package myself and then update the guide to use that one if it will make people happy, but it will change nothing about the rest of the process.
