So I have searched and can't find a definitive answer, I know the boot loader can't be unlocked after the its update, but is it still possible to root the phone?
No. Bootloader unlock is necessary for root. Verizon still owns your phone.

Nope I 'm in the same boat.. Had to replace my original because of serve over heating... My new one came with the new boot loader, and we are stuck... I figure because this phone is old, and took so long to get root in the first place.. I don't see sunshine working on a way to re root this in the near future...

Not sure if I'm behind here but I just got root on turbo with KingRoot and sunshine (without paying) and pushed SuperSU with superSU me. Can I get to the recovery now and install twrp? It's with 49 update also. Did temp root with sunshine and used updated KingRoot .
Seriously...please these developers work very hard for us and it's just my opinion but you shouldn't use any part of sunshine unless you pay for it.

There is now. As long as we are digging up old threads, we'll correct the record. Sunshine works with SUTL-49.

NO, you cannot. You need unlocked bootloader to install TWRP on this phone.
I have SU4TL-49 and Sunshine tells me that it can't because it is " currently on an incompatible firmware"

I had made the mistake of flashing to SU4TL-44 by not following the instructions correctly here http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/general/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-install-t3292684 I guess that corrupted SU4TL-49 and Sunshine couldn't do its thing. OK. Sorry, didn't mean to sound mad. The working theory we had was when people take the SUTL-49 as an update, for some Droid Turbos for some reason, something isn't completely being updated. So, it's like a hybrid of SUTL-44 and SUTL-49 -- and Sunshine fails. Re-flashing complete SUTL-49 fixes the issue.
But it has been asked a half dozen times...
Maybe @TheSt33v could add a note that if people are on SUTL-49 they don't need to flash SUTL-44. He wrote that excellent guide before SUTL-49 came out and adapted it to also include that, but I see where a lot of the instructions are flashing SUTL-44, so that may confuse people?
He's helped a lot of people! So, if it is a little confusing that was not his intention. He's gone above and beyond.

Section 0 says that if you are on either SU4TL-49 or -44, you should proceed directly to the unlocking step without flashing anything. However, since that is unclear to a lot of people (and I guess I can kind of see why), I'll try to remember to reword it when I get a spare second.
As for flashing 44 instead of 49, I kept that for 2 reasons. The first reason is that the full firmware package for SU4TL-49 does not include a batch file that performs all of the flashing steps for you. The package for SU4TL-44 does. The second reason is that since sunshine works on either version, and the only people who should be following that step are people below -44, there's no practical reason to change it. I suppose I could write a batch file to include in the firmware package myself and then update the guide to use that one if it will make people happy, but it will change nothing about the rest of the process.

Well, I had a One X for a while and flashing the boot everytime a new rom version was released or changing roms got a bit annoying after a while. I also like being able to flash a rom without being connecting to a PC to fastboot.

Yeah "a bit annoying", that's as far as it goes. As for being a deal breaker, I don't think so.
Some roms don't require you to flash the boot.img manually, such as ARHD
Wasn't there an app that would allow you to flash the boot.img from the phone itself? I think I remember seeing it mentioned on the AT&T HOX boards, but I never used it.
They should stickie the soff issue so users don't need to ask.

This device can flash boot.img's, kernels, whatever from recovery. Unlike the one x with it's tegra processor. s-off doesn't really give you any benefits EXCEPT being able to downgrade firmware if you choose to do so.

No sorry. I haven't used it yet, few more weeks to wait for mine. But, with a Qualcomm processor you can flash kernels from recovery just fine. Look at ROMs like renovate for example, everything is from recovery now. I just don't see s off being a have to have thing like it was a couple years back with devices like the dhd. Tho s off could be useful to downgrade software ( flash an old ruu) or to change the unlocked flag back to locked for warranty purposes. Maybe I'll get lucky and get a s off one ** fingers crossed**

Anybody who wants to flash custom kernels, should know the basic workings of ADB and fastboot. Some devs modify the ramdisk with their kernel, which can cause issues, if you decide to then flash another dev's kernel. A simple fastboot flash boot boot.img, will restore the stock ramdisk and save you a lot of grief.

Well now you need to unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery, and adb push or adb sideload a rom to get booting.

What are you talking about? The first post ask for an RUU. If it's not what's wanted then so be it. But when did compiling a kernel ever occur in this equation? Do you know how to use HTC dev to find ruu's? It's all in the same spot. Been that way since the website opened. If an ruu exist it will appear in all after search is done.
If a full one isn't there then it isn't there. But it's a good spot to look.

Everything in there is paid. And as a search result commentator I want to say that I dont want to and I won´t pay. I did this for the sprint version which was supposedly the most difficult phone to unlock. Why is it that the GSM version is payable and not the (mostly) CDMA which I know is practically the same phone.?
How can I unlock this POS without giving my money to some A'hole scammer and totally free with the existing HTCONE SimUnlock and some Stock Rooted rom? Thanks...

In some cases, the carrier can also unlock the phone for free.
if you can't s-off, then there is nothing to do, unless you change your mind and pay for a code.

SD Init Fail
That's the error I get when I select SIMLOCK. I used Windows to navigate to the root of the SD card and dropped the Config.dat in there.
I bought a OTG cable and then found out that I need an external drive that's powered so I could flash the config.dat.
Spliced a quick and dirty Y-OTG cable and was able to SIM unlock! Yay
any one have luck with a converted to GPE edition M7?
Just a note, Mine gets OTA updates just fine from google.

if you have converted to gpe, your phone is probably s-off so you can sim unlock using the sieempi method, otherwise you need to use a code with your phone stock

use a Y-OTG cable with a HDD formatted in FAT32
Hey guys, quick conundrum, and I want to make sure I'm taking the right steps.
I purchased an M7 for my dad, but I unlocked the bootloader and installed Slimkat before I typed in my SIM unlock code.
I've read in here that I have to restore the phone to stock.. Do I need to address the S-ON/OFF issue, or can I safely keep it S-ON if I don't intend to return it for service at this time? Will an ARHD based ROM allow me to do the unlock as was mentioned here?
I searched this topic but didn't find an exact answer re: the S status and SIM unlocks.
Didn't want to start a new thread, so I tagged it on here...

I did that and I'm getting unable to initialize sd.
I also got an unlock code and typed it in and get a failure message...
Very odd. I'm really starting to hate this phone lol

Hello, I have looked at other post and there is no case like this yet so I hope someone can help me; really Im willing to donate to my rescuer.
I just Rooted my brand new Xperia Z3 and just after I got super SU and thought I had it all, I come across the issue that WIFI cant even be activated, neither Theterin they cant be turned on at all; it just stays off.
I have searched for hours and there ir no answer. I ran the modules.zip. and nothing. I dont think that is the problem.
For more info, I flashed Z3c_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_v01_FW-105 and then UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.37.zip
Is there a way to return to stock rom?
Really, I can pay if you can help me. Thank you.
Not sure what you did nor what might have gone wrong for you, but I would have posted over here:

Now, yes, you can go back to stock by flashing a stock .FTF that you can download from...

I have the same issue after flashing the same file to my Z3. Has anyone found a fix for the wifi issue and to remain rooted? Right now I am going to flash back to stock.
Thanks.

Flash a different recovery and you're good
Exactly, root itself should not affect the WiFi connectivity, it's either the recovery, kernel.
I am stock, rooted and using Nutz dual recovery, no issues.

Once you install the .77 firmware via recovery you have to make another flash (dirty if you prefer) of .77 via flashtool excluding the system partition.
This way you will solve the issue.

Sander, can you give us more information? What do you mean? Do you mean we flash Doomlords kernel (which gives us CWM) and then change to something like TWRP? Right now I lose wifi when I flash Doomlords file and I just flashed back to stock to confirm it is an issue and yes, wifi is working again on stock so what would you recommend?

Can you give me more information on how you did this please? I have an Xperia Z3, not a Z3 Compact, will that make any difference?
Many thanks.
Yesterday I had the same problem with wifi.
The solution fo me: downloaded another .ftf (rooted) for germany, flashed via recovery and then it works perfect.
It was not a .ftf from the threads here, the link was from a german forum, this works not for me.

Went to the Verizon store to get my droid unlocked only to have the tech people there input different codes that did not work and the security feature unexplained. I went to try the sim and within a few tries it was locked.
Tech support has given me the sim network code that goes with the phone now that it is subsidy locked.

you mean unlocked?
I have looked at the steps on Sd Shadow's site about flashing and rooting the phone and have gone so far as to download and install the motorola drivers (signed by microsoft?). The device now shows in device manager as an ADA interface.
I have tried flashing with rsd lite, only to hear several sounds as if the device is reconnecting and see flash failure at 6/18 partition.
Am I using an incomplete .Xml?

Haven't seen anyone trying to unblock for use with Pure Talkusa. I don't know if it makes any difference what third-party carrier i decide to go with.

The carrier must use bands that are compatible with the Droid 3
see TECHNOLOGY section http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Motorola-DROID-3_id5305
and see if bands match the carrier you want to use.
I have used three different cords for the flashing, one of them does not "wiggle" in the ports like the others, but it is an older cord.

The phone had become locked by the time I knew what to ask for.
Codes match. I am using Rsd lite v.6.1.5. I remember seeing somewhere that it will work with that carrier. I can't post pictures, but Rsd shows "N/A" for all the device properties, though in the bottom box under model it shows "fastboot CDMA_solana s"
Could this be a driver's issue. Too many extra non Motorola drivers? I installed the remaining network adaptor and modem drivers.

That should be correct. You only need to use RSD Lite, if you have a custom rom installed, or the phone will not boot correctly.
If stock rom is work goodm you can skip to next step

you have tried unlock codes?

if you are seeing "The phone is subsidy locked. Please contact...",
an incorrect code was entered too many times, and the phone has locked you out.
even if to get the enter code screen again, and have the correct unlock code, I don't think it will work.
Because of the way the phone was locked, every droid 3 has 3 or more possible unlock codes, only one of them will actually work.
there is no point entering the same code more than twice.

I am thinking that it is likely that once it is subsidy locked no other codes will work.
