This should be easy enough to do just follow my guide here but don't go through the rooting part. (Only the down-grade).

I don't know how I missed this. Thanks!

So, I'm running stock 4.4 on my T-Mobile X and am looking for a root method that is relatively straightforward and one that will not interfere with OTA updates (4.4.2 for example) and a root that may be removed and leave no traces. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Not possible , any method to root will interfere with flashing an ota, you need stock recovery and a untouched unroofed system to flash a ota
Sent on my Gummy running Lenoto X

above is correct we only have one root method right now and you can't take OTA's with it but here is a guide if you decide to do it anyway

Okay, I've been reading all over the forums here and I can't find a truly definitive answer:
I have an ATT MotoX (non-DE) running 4.4 rooted with SlapMyMoto.
Is it safe to take the 4.4.2 OTA that came out this week? Will this break root? If so, has anyone given instructions on how to re-root?

my understanding is while you will still have root, you will lose the ability to write to the system, that write protection will be enabled, which makes it much less "rooted", and you won't be able to downgrade with a locked bootloader, there is no root method for 4.4.2

If you want full root and have a locked bootloader, don't take the OTA.

At this time there is no Root available for the NC2 update. We have no idea when, or if, it will even be available. If a root method is discovered then it will be big news, so I'm sure you will hear of it in these forums.
Also, there is no downgrade option at this point.
I'm looking to probably upgrade from my GS3 to the GS5. I've read some of the posts on here about rooting, but I'm still a bit confused. It seems that root is only available for 4.4.2, but then you can't keep root and upgrade to 5.0.1. Is that correct?
Also, could anyone point me to a thread that lays out the root method for the phone? I see a lot of people talking ABOUT the thread existing, but no actual links to the thread.
Thanks in advance!

Note that OTA 5.0 just got pushed by AT&T and if you take it, there is currently no way to root or downgrade to 4.4.2 to use towelroot. In fact if you try to downgrade after the 5.0 OTA, you will end up bricking the phone. I'm sure devs around are working on finding a way to root the OTA, but as of today there isn't a way. There is an alternate method using FireFlash which is in beta to install 5.0 on a rooted 4.4.4. Note that if you are just about to buy a S5, it might be preloaded with 5.0 which until probably some time in the future is not rootable.
I would suggest delaying your upgrade from S3 to S5 until someone figures out how to root 5.0 OTA.

Gotcha. I'm not gonna not upgrade simply because root may not be possible yet if it's already 5.0, but that's good to know. Thanks.
Hello,
Please, I was wondering if someone could help me on how to update stock 8.0 rooted moto g6. I don't want to lose root. I have flashfire but I don't know where the phone stores the Ota once it downloads it.
Thanks.

You can't
You have to flash to stock. Then reroot. I wouldnt recommend using flashfire unless a guide on here has said to. these devices are a little advanced to root so you must read everything also. No skimming please.
Is there a reason you can't re-root after OTA?
