After updating to lollipop 270 people tell me that they have hard time understanding what I say in voice calls. The microphone test is OK but I still have problems. I tried to turn off the noise suppression but no effect. Anyone else with this problem?
I too have had this problem, although I am not sure if what I have done is a solution, but so far its working fine. Anyway what I have found is that if I go into Settings>More>Mobile Networks>Network Operators for some reason I had been lowered to a 2G network instead of 3G or 4G. This worked for me so far however as I said I am not sure if it is a solution.

Same here bro. In initial lollipop build the call quality was OK but now I barely can talk. Hope that Sony will fix it in next update
Same for me. People telling me that they cannot udnerstand me when calling.
I tried once to switch from 4G to 3G and then the person I called understood me. I will have to verify if this is maybe a work-around.
I did the Microphone check and it seems to work. I assume it is not a microphone issue. It seems to be some kind of (gsm) voice call transfering thing...
Anyway.. I enver had this problem before (on KitKat)...
Edit:
I just checked the Sony support forum.
There is a work-around for this that says disabling noice cancellation and other sound enhancements as well as setting the equalizer to normal can fix the problem.
Also Switching back to WCDMA only helped some people...

So my microphone seems to not be activated for periods of time, and I can't figure out what causes it, or really even how to fix it.
For example, today at work I was able to make calls for several hours, but after getting off I made a couple more calls that failed because the other party couldn't hear me.
Sometimes I can start Google Now voice search with a 'google', but after I make one voice entry, I can't make another one, and the next time I manually press the voice key it won't pick up any sounds at all. Even Shazam has problems with the mic sometimes, showing no equalizer bars whatsoever.
I thought this was a hardware issue because I thought it started one day (about the 3rd day I'd had it) after I dunked the phone in the sink, but in the diagnostics app the mic seems to do fine.
Is anyone else having this issue? It's really starting to get on my nerves. I guess a factory reset is in order?
I'm also having trouble finding any consolidated info on this issue; threads seem to trail off without any clear solutions.
hey,
im having some problems withthe mic as well, the other party cannot here me here and there and Ive read some forums that it might be software. also there was a solution on installing different home program and not use xperias Launcher. so hope this will help till KIT KAT is here

I'm having the same issue. Didn't see an answer here so I looked on the Sony product support website, and there a few suggestions were made:
- use a factory SIM, not a scissor-cut SIM card
- update the firmware to the latest version
- turn off "Microphone noise suppression."
link to the sonymobile website where I got this info - http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1/Microphone-issue-Xperia-Z1/m-p/450153/highlight/true#M6457
Time will tell if this worked for me. Let me know if you found a solution, or if this worked for you?

Good chance here to solve the problem. You can perform a factory reset after update as well or even now, this process sometime fix small issues.
is there any way to change from primary mic to make secondary mic use in calls? Like some build.prop tweak?

In build.prob there is no way to do that. To switch them I think you have to hack the kernel. Hacking kernel can be done on Custom one and for all this you have to have Unlocked Bootloader. Who can hack a kernel, just a Master.
Thanks for answer. I am on CM11 right now and custom kernel so it can be made if someone know what to change in kernel
Hey guys, i have problem with my Z1. While i am calling via gsm calling the other side can hear me like very bad. Almost imposible to understand what i am saying. I would say that is problem with microphone, but on skype or sound recorder my voice was clear like a mountain stream.
I was running on stock deodexed 4.4.4, than i made factory restart and now i am running on Criskelo rom, 4.4.4 aswell. Still the same.
I even turn the noise suppresion in call menu aswell, didnt make a difference.
Anyone got the same problem?

Did you have this problem on stock rom as well and on an older build than 4.4.4?
On Stock Rom yes, but i have this issue just with 4.4.4. i guess.
I tried it on official 4.3.and the same.
Try a different sim card and make a call and report back

You may also try if you can make any different result with your device microphone when calling if you change any of voice settings in "settings/calling settings". There are atleast microphone noice canceling, equalizer, speaker volume increasing and slow speaking. Maybe hardware issue thou.
I tried to change everything. But i can hear it great on Skype And microphone test software, so not sure if it is hardware issue :-/
I just tried to call with my loud settings (like from main speaker) my voice was clear again. But when switching back it did the same.
I have this problem since i tried for the 5th time to call with it through the rain.
Now, every program the mic is dissorted. Even the sony service menu. Brought it my service provider for a repair/replace, but after a few weeks they told me the phone has water damage??? HOW the hell, i am not stupid, knowing to close the lids.
Now waiting for the parts of microphone hardware. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
So are you going to replace it by yourself? My voice is service menu is pure, even on skype calls and stuff like that, so i hope its not hardware related :-/
Problem fixed. I had removed the antidust cover of microphone and my voice is clear again.

Hi, I have the same problem. What did you do exactly?
Thanks
Over the past week, calls made while I'm on wifi using both T-Mobile Wifi Calling or Skype have been choppy and every 5 seconds or so, the voice of the person on the other line goes in-and-out. I've tried on multiple wifi networks so it's not the network. I can't tell if it's related to Lollipop or not because I recently updated to that. Calls made when I'm out and using cell network have no issues.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Found out that another user is having the exact same problem. He posted a video on YouTube here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2XXFyieDAg
Thanks
My wife and I are having the same problems. We also have complaints of voice echoes from whomever is calling. I hope T-Mobile fixes this.

I also have the issue with the voice echoes occurring for the other callers! Do you think it could be related to any of the apps we have on our phones? I'm not sure what steps to take to rectify this issue because I don't think T-Mobile or HTC will be addressing this problem.
I was able to resolve the issues with phone calls by performing a master reset.
Regarding the echoes, I was able to circumvent the issue by lowering the volume and not speaking that loud.
I received an email from an HTC employee regarding my inquiry about the bug and was told to try disabling the Ok Google Detection set to "enabled on any screen" and it seems to have fixed the issue!! Let me know if this works for others as well. Not sure if those of you who have done a master reset re-enabled that setting or not, but perhaps you can try enabling it and see if the issue occurs again. Hopefully this can be patched by either HTC or the Google app itself can be fixed.
Hi, I am new here if I am in the incorrect thread or the issue has been mentioned really appreciated to know the link.
I just got a Nexus 6 (new) everything is working fine until I did a call. I would hear a lot of static and crackling. Sometimes it would stop, but it would come back. I know it shouldn't be my network since I upgraded from a Motorola X 2013 model and didn't have this issue. The newest OS I am running on is the 5.1.1 android. I know its not the speakers since I watched a video and that didnt show the issue. Its basically via phone calls. I am running on the T-Mobile network. Would this be a hardware issue, software issue? I am concern since I just got the phone if their is a fix really appreciate it.

Sometimes when you are in between two lte towers they can conflict and call quality can significantly drop (in also might be local t-mobile issue).
The easy fix is to go to Settings --> More --> Cellular networks --> switch off VoLTE
It does put phone in HSPA connection mode, but for most part it's good, if you don't watch videos...
I believe it's the whole volte (as mentioned by monster Mary) I lowered it to 3g and I did a call not a single static will update if their is still issues thanks for the helpful feedbacks guys.
I am frequently experiencing that when I try to call or if someone is calling me, they cannot hear me but I can hear them clearly. When I try calling through Facebook Messenger, everything works fine though. It looks like the mic is losing functionality when calling through GSM. If I restart my phone, the mic works again as it should. I don't want to keep restarting my phone to make me heard in a call. Any suggestion what the problem might be? I have already reset my phone twice.
I have the same message.. Any solutions

I have the same problem. Phone has been sent in for service twice, now it is on its third travel. First time they just checked it and found nothing. No surprise, cause its not always a problem. Second time they changed the microphone and something else, but when I received it there was still no functioning microphone.
I have also heard others with same problem. Huawei should really look into it.
Happens if you switch from private space back to standard. Also may be linked to "always listening" Google assistant. Had the same problem on my ZTE Axon 7. It's software not hardware.
Restart if you have to use private spaces and also look what other apps may have mic access.

Hey did you find a solution for this as this is driving me insane. I'm missing important phone calls as they can't hear me but if I call through WhatsApp or messenger it's fine. Tried everything I can think of.
