Extended Battery won't charge above 94% - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently bought an extended battery with 4700mAh on eBay. I've been charging it for the LAST 20 HOURS and it still hasn't charged to 100%. Depending on when I look at the screen, it's been either increasing up to 94% or decreasing back to 92%, so back and forth between the two numbers. The first time the battery reached 94% was 13 hours ago. I'm using the Cyanogenmod 12.1 on my Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and the phone is charging while turned off. Is thebattery defective, should I do something in the recovery mode or just calibrate the battery with 94% charged?

I think you need to do a battery calibration...

I downloaded the app Battery Calibration and I calibrated it while phone was at 94% because it really REALLY won't go above 94%. A new development ist that while the phone charges turned off, it achieved the 100% charge. I turned it off (sitll charging) and again... 94%. I turned it off again to charge it and it's again at 100% charge. I'm still letting it charge, but it's charging for 16 hours straight already.
I wanted to delete the battery stats via TWRP recovery, turnes out I have a TWRP version that's missing the button. Any ideas on how I should progress?

Did u try this app ?

Hi to all.
I have one galaxy s3 mini that just laying around because battery is dead for good. Now I wondering if is possible to use extended or any kind of non original battery on stock rom. I remember that, on my old LG Optimus 4x, I was unable to use battery from ebay that was same like original battery, but when phone boot completely I receive message that i should use only original LG battery and phone shut down.

The problem with extended cells is that the phone is not configured or depending on the charge monitor calibrated it self for this yet.
Sometimes it takes a few charge cycles or sometimes the charge monitor just wont get the correct readings.

[Q]Battery indicator showing wrong?

The last couple of days I've got a weird problem. When my battery is fully charged everything seems okay and it drains in normal speed (compared to stock).
But when my phone runs out off battery and i start to charge in the beginning everything seems fine.
But suddenly it can go from 75 to 100% in 1 minute. When i look at the stats in MIUI ROM it seems like it's not at same height as it was the last day of 100%. Maybe only 80%.
Sorry for my bad English, but i hope it makes sense.
I've wiped battery stats in CWM. But is it possible that the phone actually is only 80% charged, even though the indicator shows 100% after wipe?
Because if the ROM think the battery is charged and wipe stats it will afterwards only charge to that point and the battery maximum will decrease over days?
If that's possible, how do i full charge the battery? Just leave it in the charger or?
I hope you can understand what I mean.
Thanks in advance
Hello
Does your phone charge to fx 75% and after that doesnt get higher until after you restart the phone?

Got the same problem?

have you try calibrate your batt again
yes my friend have this problem too, maybe there is software bug
After flashing Celebration HD 2.0.1b I first used Battery Calibration from market to wipe battery stats. Afterwards the battery indicator problems started.
Yesterday i decided to wipe battery stats manually in CWM and drain to phone to 2% before charging, and afterwards I was able to fully charge the phone.
So maybe the bug in is Battery Calibration app?
I decided to install Juice Plotter to monitor the battery and compare it to one build in in MIUI. Just to get some more data.
Hello again
Yes i had the same problem as you, with my previosly 2 lg optimus 2x, and returned them because of the problem you mentioned. I am on the third op2x and luckily this work good
So if i were in your position i would try to go to the dealer and shift the phone with another lg optimus 2x.
Best regards

The user said that he started to have problem after a new rom and wiping battery stats, changing phone for that is not the smartest move at all. Is like changing phone because your rom doesn't work.
I have a similar problem, after you wipe battery stats you don't have a reliable indicator, for me the phone took 3 hours to get from 99 to 100%.
I also noticed that my miui ( 1.8.5 same for 1.7.29) doesn't update battery stats when the screen is off so all those plotter don't work, and i think this messes up with the battery indicator (I guess the phone doesn't have enough data to make a decent estimate)
I think is miui + wipe battery stats that can be problematic
I know that but i am just saying that i also had the same problem with the stock rom.
Best regards

How old is the battery? How many cycles does it have?
I know from laptop Li-Ion batteries that the voltage vs. capacity is not linear.
When discharging, the voltage will steadily drop to a "wear-level" where it will jump to an almost depleted level. When charging, this "wear-level" will be at the top.
Why I am telling this? Because if this mapping is kept in SW and you wiped it, Android needs to relearn it again. So at 1st complete charging/discharging you would see a % sudden drop/raise, but at the next cycles it would be linear with time (although the total time will be smaller than a new battery).
When laptop/phone battery tips talk about calibration, it is so whoever monitors the voltage (circuit in battery or SW) to know were the wear drop will be, so your estimates to be better.
As an example, I had a very old Thinkpad that did not have any calibration, and it would discharge to about 40% and drop to 5% within seconds. But when charging, it would raise steadily to 70% (from that 5%) but 70% to 95% in seconds. After years of use, that percentage gap would just increase (40-5 got 60-5, 70-5 on discharging).
PS: my current Thinkpad has 4 years and the battery capacity is 49% with 150 cycles. But this one has a nice feature where if the battery was above a certain percentage, plugging AC would not charge it (and thus save a few cycles). I used it set at 70%.
PS: LiIon batteries have cycle count, heat and time as main enemies. Also don't like prolonged (think storage) low charge.

[Q] my new High capacity batter!

Hi I got a new 1900mAH battery (By Feipusi) and I use it for a week now, though I noticed it doesn't do it full work and the battery status bar is sometimes incorrect, is it true I need to discharge->charge it 4-5 times? Do I need to charge it when the phone is off?

Hello!
Have you wiped battery stats? And after every rom flashing I charge fully, than discharge fully my phone once! So it's not needed to charge and discharge fully your phone 4 or 5 times....
When I discharge and charge again do I need to turn off my phone?

First charge up the phone, and wipe battery stats in CWM or with an app from the Play.
Than let the phone copletelly drain and it will turn off itself... Than charge up fully and turn it on. :good:
And you will have a nice, calibrated battery.
ok I downloaded a tool, it says STEP 2 OVERIDE, what does that mean?

Help. The battery is charged to 100% fast

Hello, friends
I was install a new rom, I did everything right, root, update the CMW, but when I went to install the rom (CM10 Unofficial) phone was automatically turn off, because low battery power. I open the Recovery menu I went out that the load was 0%. Wait till it is complete at 100% (in 8 minutes the charge is 0% to 100% charge), and reinstall the rom, switched on the battery was full, but after 7 minutes or less and went out ..
Now i insalled CM10 for Cooper, , and as usual, when I try to charge the battery till 100% to calibrate, charge loaded 100% very fast (5 minutes) and did not charge more ..
I've tried calibrating and nothing
because, battery not charge completely, the percentage is 100% but is false.
Thanks and sorry for my english

Go to battery usage. Despite the 100%, it will show charging.
That means it is charging.
Either that, or buy a new battery.

battery problem.... disastrous from 20% to 0%

My beautiful Motorola Moto xt1052 x, 18 months of life, has some problems with the battery ...
although i'm very scrupulous in battery charging
I noticed an abnormal battery consumption
until last month my device worked all the day, from 8am to 10pm, with 2 hours of screen and 20-30% of residual charge
Now with the same use the phone power off at 17pm because the battery is 0%, the phone gets no more than 1.5 h and most of the screen I noticed a sudden drop of the battery from 20% to 0% even with idle phone ....
I tried to calibrate it using various methods suggested is the internet, but without success
it's time to change the battery?
Use the Snapdragon BatteryGuru app and give it the time it asks for analysing (5 usage cycles I guess )

You either need to calibrate the battery properly or it's getting near to the end of the battery lifespan.
To calibrate it, you need the device under heavy load, let it completely discharge, then charge it 3-4 % and boot it, load heavy load app, that keeps the device awake and plug the charger, let it charge to 100.
repeat if needed.
No result…
Also during charging I see the battery level go from 80 to 100% in few seconds…

Battery life

Hello guys i have bought a note 8 from 7 days and i have Seen that battery percentual decrease quickly. In the morning after some minutes with only display unlock i loose 5%.
Is this normal?
Thank you
Dude dont charge your phone to 100% over and over all the night. You cant remplace easily the battery. Dont worry about your battery drain, I thinks is ok. Normally we got 6-7 hours of screen on time, so if you only lose 5% in 30 min... it mean you can get around 10 hours!

I charge my phone on a wireless charger base overnight and it stops charging when at 100% and no problems! Anyway, if you read the latest thoughts on charging, keeping the battery over 60% is best and no damage will be done by over night charging!

The best for a litium battery is stay in 40-60 percent. Charging more than 80% will also damage your battery life (but sooo much less than let it drain to 0%). Charging over night isnt good for a battery (at least I think it). Check AccuBattery, is a very nice app to battery management. And when you hit the 100% it stops, but will run again because you wont get a 99% while the phone are in the pad. Hope I help you ^^
Do you monitor your data? You could have some apps working in the background and using both your data and battery. Install a data monitor app to check which apps use your data.
I get 1.5 to 2.5 % drain per hour in idle, gps wifi and data off, aod on, sometimes even 0.9% per hour overnight
