I never really had any issues with Vista but from what i've played with in Windows 7 it's fantastic.

I suspect we'll at the very least see the Diamond, Touch Pro and maybe the Blackstone (depending if the guys at MS have one I guess), I'm also not seeing any PPC powered devices on this list so they could still be seperate?
Do you know if this includes devices connected via a network share? On one of my networks I have a brother MFC that's connected to one of my switches and it's a bit of a PITA to manage.
windows 7 x64 rocks
i really like the new interface of windows 7 especially the new task bar....and its works like a charm....

I dont mate sorry
I just downloaded it finally but will try it when I get home close to my restoral CD's. I am interesting in the newer device center. Other than that my major questions were pertaining to games and graphics. We all know how the majority of us got jacked over with Vista when it was released with KNOWN graphics problems. If Microsoft ignores the gaming community they will find that many loyal fans who have not left yet will go towards Linux or Apple. I have always loved Linux over MS anyway but have gained a newer resect for apple.... Well kind of.
Bogus
Original post indicates it is win mob 7. WRONG!!!
It is actually Windows 7 OS beta release which is probably what Vista should have been.
4 days of 7 x64...it's amazing. About Device Stage, I think there was something on MSDN about that. I'll go dig it up, I guess. In the end, it's all XML and *should* be pretty easy to do.
I've been running Win7 x64 since Sunday with no issues whatsoever. So far, I love it. It's great. The redesigned taskbar is very intuitive and easy to use. I love the new network manager applet; it behaves like network-manager in Linux. That is, a single click shows a menu-style list of available networks, and another click will get you connected. Win7 also (finally) includes native support for burning ISO images, which makes me thrilled.
I'm not so thrilled that it inherited UAC (running UAC is like always wearing a condom in case you trip, slip, and fall on a prostitute in the shady back room of a hotel in a bad neighborhood), but it's at least got better controls for it via msconfig. Still, I straight-up disable that crap.
Also, the Action Center does a great job alerting the user about potential hardware issues, and it gave me direct download links for getting the proper drivers for my HP dv6700 notebook's card and fingerprint readers.
Additionally, it seems much snappier than Vista. I'm sure that will change in the final release, especially once OEMs get to bog it down with their bloatware, but it's nice for now.
Only complaint is that Chrome won't run on Win7
Other than that, way to go MS!
I've had Win 7 of my laptop for a few months, the only issue I have is it doesn't really work when browsing my network.
I installed the leaked build 6801 back then, since the public release I ran windows update and nothing happened. Does that mean I need to clean install the new release?
I´ll wait for a stable version, just geting used to vista and I´m not an expert so I prefer to wait a few months
What do you mean? This version is stable?
Many people are saying they think really it's past beta and about ready to be launched...

It is EXTREMELY stable. I haven't been able to crash it yet, and believe me, I've been trying.
And it dual (or triple, in my case) boots quite well, so you've got nothing to lose if you want to give it a 20GB partition just to play with it. The current licenses are only good til 1 August anyway, so I'm not looking to use it as a permanent solution.
And it's really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, easy to use. So dive in

Yes, Windows 7 was the correct title of the thread but I did catch that I states windows 7 mobile in opening thread box. Sorry about that everyone. I was rading articles on Windows Mobile 7 and looking at Windows 7 at the same time. I have high expectations for both. I will be installing Windows 7 tonight and I will let you know how it runs on my laptop. Hopefully it better manages video memory than Vista does...

crome doesn't (I don't use it though, because their security is abysmal it's on the same level as safari on windows. but to every man his own) but it does work, you have to run the exe with a certain argument. search at live.com or google.com to find it. I saw it today in my RSS reader.
I'll try to find it for you.

For the rest of yous, you need to add –in-process-plugins to the shortcut launcher command.
Off to go try it.

I didn't check to see if this was in Vista but I just seen in 7 that I can set my background to change in intervals. I set my windows color to clear, so when my backgournd changes its like the window color changes too. I'm gonna check if its in Vista.
Let the battle continue here.

agree and the irony is I am typing this post on a macbook pro =)
gotta love the irony =)
however after using the mac osx a night, it made me realize the blaring weaknesses of the steve jobs machines. Don't get me wrong magnetic charger is a fantastic idea, but that's about it. Its the same thing as other laptops on the market except price tag and status. I mean I got this macbook pro for 700 bucks but like I'll sell it for 1000 at least XD
i dont see the point in owning a mac when you need parallels to do things that a mac can't do. might as well just run a windows machine and save yourself $3k.

I've just finished my new build though, just waiting on a better power supply and she'll be running windows 7.

Windows 7 over any other OS
Windows Mobile and or Windows Phone 7 over any other too
Windows for life

Linux on my phone (kinda, android)
Linux on my PC's (Ubuntu + Kubuntu)
But I do need Windows Vista (euuggghhghg) for Steam Games and stuff.
Mac OS is better because it can run windows.
Lol j/k. I'm winodws all they way, and also used to use Linux (Ubuntu) but was getting annoyed with the dual boot screen at startup so I just put on Windows XP(that was back in the day). Now I'm running W7 Ultimate.

I actually still prefer Ubuntu with gnome, I've tried other distros but none have worked out as well. It all comes down to what you use an OS for. I like speed and stability. I use my home computer for an HTPC/ internet entertainment box ( no real need for big name games I use the ps3 for that). I like having an OS I can really customize (probably also why I like Android). The lack of worry for viruses is also very nice.
However if you have a need for high end gaming or more commercial software I'm sure you would be better off with OSX or Windows.
Seeing how Windows 8 will be ARM compatible, does this mean that there might be a glimmer of hope on seeing it on our Tabs?

No
If I could write fewer than 10 characters I'd leave it at that, but I can't and I know you'll ask "why?" so I will elaborate:
We need kernel source code to ensure that everything works with the majority of the hardware in our device (unless, by some miracle, Microsoft made the kernel with full Tab support), which we won't get. On top of that, the bootloaders wouldn't know what to do with a Windows kernel, it's a completely different system. Even on a PC the Linux bootloaders (GRUB, LILO) don't handle it, they just pass the job onto the Windows bootloaders. It would be technically impossible at the low level stuff. Of course, at the higher level it would work. A glimmer of hope may be gleaned from knowing that Ubuntu is being ported to the Tab, and with ARM compatibility in Windows we could one day see a version of WINE running Windows applications on the Tab (although by the time that happens we'll all be using quad core tablets )
Hope this helps
Thanks for your answer. Very informative and thorough.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_RT
Any idea whether it would be possible to run this version of Windows 8 RT on the TP?
They say this is an ARM-based release, so If you could get ahold of a legit copy- you should technically be able to port it over to the TP.
It's all over bro, locked bootloader, blah blah blah

What about all the driver stuff? Its not that easy as just to get some Windows from anywhere and flash it on the Tablet.
drivers are probably not such a big issue. there is a creative method windows is using for driver implementation. plus about 6-ish months ago, i saw a demo of windows for arm running on hardware nearly identical to what touchpad has. so i think if not for it being locked, it would technically be possible.
here is the link to where i read it http://www.anandtech.com/show/4811/windows-8-tablets-running-on-ti-qualcomm-nvidia-amd-intel-silicon go down to qualcom, i think those specs are pretty much in line with what a touchpad has
here is some info about how they are handling drivers. scroll down to driver section and look for "class drivers" http://www.anandtech.com/show/5527/microsoft-provides-windows-on-arm-details
unless i'm mistaken, and i could very well be, seems like the driver implementation is going to be very flexible in what will be supported.
I hope windows 8 come to touchpad

It depends how strict the ARM version is on drivers. If you think about it the x86 edition will install and boot with hardly any drivers required but I think this is due to a large library of included generic drivers. You can also instal drivers in Windows after you boot into it pretty easily.
The restrictions on doing this are going to be legal concerns since Windows RT will not be sold so files will likely not be allowed here. It also depends on if this is even possible to do since there will be no disc/ISO image out there and it depends how similar RT is to its x86 counterpart. They are both NT so I'm thinking that they may operate similarly, except RT won't have all the legacy system files that x86/64 has.
if you see the trouble the devs from cyanogenmod or the other linux ports are running into with the drivers, i dont think there will ever be a working windows port here.
The windows 8 RT version is made for tablets running a arm processor. So It is comming. I wonder how Windows 8 Proffessional response, when I jack a windows Phone 7 into my usb port Wonder If I still need those drivers wich is 2,3 gig or so
I have the Proffessional version of 8 wich is fully activated by Microsoft hehe, suckersszzz

We won't get Windows RT. Microsoft will not be releasing an iso with the files. It will be only given to OEMs.

Hmph, and what about WP7 for HD2? Was it posted on XDA?
By the way, Microsoft made a huge mistake by locking W8 RT so tight, it would have bigger chances of adoption if devs were able to legally port the OS to other devices.
i dont know about what was or was not allowed with wp7 so i cant comment on that. but getting rt on other non-sanctioned devices will take some hacking and distribution of their software... i'm thinking thats too close to piracy. i'm no mod but i dont see how they would allow that kind of information on here.
but i agree with you, they should have been more open with the devices. maybe down the road microsoft will allow it, but who knows.

I don't think it's possible to install Windows on android device, however, I don't see any reason why would it be impossible to install some kind of virtual machine environment suitable for android and running Win10 on it. this phone has a high class specs, it can do anything android devices can do. The real(me ) question is, is this screen big enough to use Windows suited apps? you might find it really uncomfortable..
