Hello,
I bought a Nexus one and as I don't live in a country that sells it my cousin brought it to me.
The device doesn't work and self Reboots giving me 20 seconds of use.
Tryed working with/without a sim,
Did a Factory Reset,
Formated the Sd-Card on my Pc,
and still in the same spot.
any ideas on what else to try before giving up?
anyone had this problem and fixed it?
My phone is not ROOTed and is on Version 1 of 2.1
didn't have enough time to get other info like Baseband and stuff.
I'm not willing to root the phone.
** If i send it back it will make the phone very expensive as i will have to pay costums fee when they mail it back to me
Thanks in advance!
Sounds like a DOA. Really bad luck.
If you send it back you should not pay duty to get it back usually, unless you live in a very tax hungry country! Between US and CAN you would not get duty.
Beside try speaking with cust support, DOA are usually well handled by company and so far HTC seem to be handling repair quite well as per the few post about broken screen I have seen.
Did you try running the phone WITHOUT an SD card ? good luck!

If the boots, has never been rooted (boot unlock), no immediate physical damage, and has no signs of liquid damage or tampering (check void sticker).... it's likely just a software issue. Reload original firmware, or load a new firmware... Don't give up, sounds like the phone is still okay.

So it seems.
Where are you from, Krypton1984 ?
Looks like some rogue app is loading at boot, causing reset. Possibly corrupt ROM image - but not sure. Might be software, might be hardware. But here's one thing to try:
If you're on a T-Mobile-compatible phone (900/1700/2100), do yourself a favor and flash stock Froyo. No need to root for that. The guide is in the sticky thread. In case of corrupted ROM image it'll do the trick.
I think you should factory reset it. Maybe even download the official 2.1 rom and install it. See if it fixes it.
Try a battery trade in first. Believe it or not, my first N1 seemed dead, and support gave me a swap for a new unit. When the new unit came in, it was still "dead" with the battery that originally shipped with the device. A new battery is what caused my N1 to finally come to life. The batteries that ship with N1's have QC issues, because I was one of many to report a DOA battery in the Google support forums.
its brand new,
I didn't pay customs on the way in because my cousin brought it to me, so if i send it back i will and it makes the phone very expensive.
what if when i try to change firmware the phone reboots again without finishing?
i dont want to brick the phone.

Well booting to the bootloader will answer the hardware software question.
1. Turn off the phone.
2. Now press (and hold) the Trackball and turn on the phone.
Once you're in the loader let it sit for a while. If it stays up it's a software problem and a new ROM should sort it out. If it reboots while in the bootloader it sounds like a DOA phone.
Good luck.
You can also try a full factory reset through the bootloader. Search for the instructions as i do not know them off the top of my head

Yeah, North America is all one big happy family. We've got NAFTA and everything now.
OP, I am assuming you've allowed the battery to charge full?

i am having a similar issue. The phone reboots randomly and gets stuck at the static X logo screen. i have to remove the battery and let it be aside for at least 10 minutes before i am able to get the phone up and running again.
i tried updating to froyo. it installed but then froze up again on reboot. i did the battery thing and then started it up, went on fine..froyo had been successfully installed, but my random reboot problem STILL DID NOT GO AWAY..
can this be sorted by installing the original rom image?? or do i have to go in for a swap?!?
i don't want to swap coz they send out refurbished devices,,but its the last option...

You'll probably need to swap based on what you're saying. I, though, actually think Refurbished devices are just as good or even better than new. Think about it, if you keep getting dust under the screen maybe a refurbished phone will already have the fix? For that scenario it works out.

I really think this is a bad RAM issue.
I had this happen to my Nexus (ATT). It was prior to flashing froyo. I tried everything, flashing back to stock (including radio), cyan's latest, Paul's (stock) Froyo (with and without radio). Same result. Seemingly random reboots.
I thought initially that it was a software issue - It would not reboot while in fastboot/Amon's Recovery. But having tried every software combination, I've concluded that it MUST be hardware, unless I'm missing something big.
The phone, for the most part, would be fine as long as I DON'T TOUCH IT. It would stay idle for a long period of time (24hrs+), then I would use it Everything from web browsing to downloading apps to making calls, and it would reboot. It's frustrating because it seems that it's rebooting for no reason except that I'm touching it.
Sent in for a replacement, it arrives today. Hopefully it will not suffer this problem.
After talking with HTC they told me i need to swap the phone.
Because i'm out of america i need to send it to someone in the US amd then they send him the new divice after he sends my old one,
I am not satisfide with google's (first guy I talked with) and HTC because none of whome understand the severity and the hard feeling of getting a BRAND NEW IN BOX paper-weight. nothing about we'll compensate you or nada.
For me it tells me the brand is not strong enough to manage an outer state service and i wouldn't recomend them for countries that they don't cell it for.
If you where born in a HTC GOOGLE compatible country enjoy!
As i'm am probably less lucky and still in 2010 nationality counts
Hey,
My AT&T rooted nexus one is still randomly rebooting if I use 3g data. I am in Costa Rica and the 3g is on the 850 band. I also have to add the apn "kolbi3g".
So basically I can use the phone for anything and it works great, but if I add the apn and start using the 3g heavily I will get a reboot, sometimes it will reboot vibrate 7 times and I have to pull the battery. I have tried 2.1 and 2.2 rooted and not also cyanogen 6 all the same problem.
If I do *#*#4636#*#* and select the wcdma only it runs the 3g better but reboots way more, sometimes the instant I place load on the connection. However if I select wcdma "unkown" the 3g works much better I can use it sometimes 30min at a time without a problem.
So any ideas what I could try? Is there a kernel that will up the volt's a bit just help stability? Or anything else I could try? Data roaming is off, I have tried both off and on, no difference that I can tell.
Thanks a lot this is driving me crazy! Just got this phone Sunday too sick to my stomach of the thought I spend $600 on this phone if I can't get 3g to work
How about radio image???
It is currently on baseband 4.06.00.12_7. Is there a more current radio?
I came across this multiple reboot issue on a (locked) Vodafone UK Nexus.
It booted into the OS (lockscreen) and as soon as data connected it looped back to the last couple seconds of the animated Nexus logo.... and again.... and again.
I powered down the unit (battery pull), booted into bootloader (voldown+power) and selected clear storage (voldown, voldown, power) then (volup) to confirm.
This deletes the user data and you have to sign in and set up the phone again but it certainly fixed the issue. My only guess is some user data became corrupt and the kernel panicked and forced a partial reboot.
Give it a try and lemme know.

Just did that (had the phone plugged into wall charger), and the second I got to the home screen it rebooted then vibrated like 6 or seven times. Seems to do it worse when it is plugged in. And now it won't even boot up even after pulling the battery, it vibrates 6-7 times.
I am really worried about this, any other ideas??? I will try anything! Thanks for the help
Update! Now the phone just reboot when I do anything period with it plugged in. Just like posted in another thread on this section!
Please any ideas I am very desperate and very sick to my stomach!
Hmmm very strange.
I'm aware from what you were saying on the other thread that you've got an unlocked bootloader and you're wondering what to do on the warranty front.
If you've really tried different combinations of stock and custom firmware and having the same issue I'm tempted to say its a hardware issue.
Many people have returned their unlocked phones with no comeback from HTC some have reported that they have noticed the unlocked bootloader and have issued a motherboard repair as part of the fix because of this.
Although im unsure of the additional cost (if any) i would definitely recommend going through the warranty repair route with HTC. They won't say no and send you back the same broken phone. And who knows, if its a confirmed hardware issue they may just replace it as a goodwill gesture.
Other than that I don't have any more ideas.
A nexus support thread has a popular answer referring to the clear storage fix.
http://www.google.de/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=40f52d29e9c4177e&hl=en
Just make sure you are definitely clearing the storage FROM THE BOOTLOADER before calling HTC. It is the first thing they will make you do before accepting a return anyway.

Ok thank you so much sir. I am so glad to hear that I may still have a chance at getting it replaced! It was very fullish of me to unlock it, I know, it is just that I figured it was software and could be fixed by unlocking. It is going to cost me $$$ to get this to the States, but that is life. If I still can't get it to work I will call htc and let you know what they say
Little update here. I cleared storage again and just simply disabled data, I have been using the phone for a couple of hours on work without any problems. Next thong I am going yo yty is another friends 3g similar card and see if it still reboots on that sim, if it does then I am calling HTC.
Also still open to any other ideas you guys may have.
My first day with the Droid bionic... it's my first non-Samsung Android phone, so I'm not sure what to think.
In the midst of trying to figure it out and get it all setup (rooted, Titanium Backup restore, apps only), and my data drops out. Apparently for good.
I had solid 4G data when I first opened up the phone this afternoon. I ran some speed tests and switched to WiFi. I left the house a bit later and realized I couldn't open a webpage. I noticed the WiFi was still on, so I shut it off, but the cellular data never came back.
Tried putting it in airplane mode and back, rebooted (several times), tried the data toggle on the power control widget, I even forced the phone into CDMA only mode (and back).
I'm stumped. Has anyone else seen this? Is there any kind of possibility that restoring apps or rooting could have anything to do with it? I have not seen this problem over many a ROM on the Vibrant, and then the Droid Charge. I even loaded a GB ROM on the Charge and restored all my apps without issue.
Any help would be appreciated. I'd really not like to have to wipe the phone and start over.
I had something similar happen although I'm not rooted yet. For 3 days I was golden. Then I installed switchpro widget to see how the 3G/4G toggle worked with the Bionic and it made my mobile connectivity wonky. I uninstalled it. It still is wonky today.
LTE is there then goes away a reboot corrects it until it goes away. 3G is exactly the same. Turn on WIFI and the LTE disappears. It's supposed to stay up just turn white like it did for 3 days prior to installing then uninstalling switchpro. It could just be coincidence with the switchpro thing idk. I'm not all that knowledgeable with APN's, but after some research somehow I believe mine got mixed up via switchpro. Getting a new Bionic tomorrow.
Well, no data at all. If I'm outof wifi area, I have no data access. Only phone calls and text.

I'd get another one then. Or if you don't want to do that get a different brand
I think I'll just try a hard reset. I'm sure it was something I did with Titanium backup... I'll just have to figure out what.
Or you could try a factory reset to see if that solves it
EDIT: I see you thought of that 1st
Something similar happened to me. The only way I could fix it was by restarting the phone until the data crashed again. I solved this problem (or I think I did, still testing it) by removing all my widgets. I have a strong suspicion it was a widget doing this (specifically the AIX weather widget, but I am not sure yet).
So, I suggest that you remove all of your widgets and restart your phone and see what happens.
The hard reset did the trick. I think maybe it was me restoring the [SMS/.../APN] setting (can't remember the middle setting) in TB. I didn't do it this time and all seems well. It was green, so I thought 'why not'.
I'll see how it goes from here on out.
I'm thinking its got to be something related to wifi. every time I disconnect from wifi I can't connect to data unless I reset my phone.

Glad to hear that. Factory reset did not fix it for me. Will have a new tomorrow
I am also having this problem. If Motorola still used vanilla android this wouldn't be an issue. I hate when manufacturers feel it necessary to fix something that isn't broke. I am sad to see how many people are experiencing this problem because if it was isolated to my phone and a few others then a warranty replacement would do the trick. I now feel like I wasted 380 on phone and accessories. I placed a call to Verizon tech support and their as clueless as usual. I hope an update is released soon that fixes this issue (or a custom rom). I remain hopeful that we start seeing good things on our Motorola devices now that google owns moto.
NOTE: I wish people would start reading through existing threads before starting new ones. I started a thread to this effect back on day 3. Several others have started threads to this effect as well. I think there are now 4 or 5 on this very same subject.

Alright, I have an issue that's been getting ridiclious the past few months. Ironically it all started when trump took office, but that's another subject....
On any rom besides a sense based rom, and i've tried alot, AICP, CM, Lineage, candy, etc etc. I'll have random reboots when getting text messages, or random reboots when trying to send a text message. I've tried all these roms wiped, with and without gapps, and i end up with the exact same result. Straight up random reboots.
The moment i wipe and restore the stock sense i imaged immeditately unlocking, no issues. I flash badboyz, no issues. I've been experimenting the past few months, and i can honestly say it only happens on non-sense roms. I thought it was because of gapps. So i ran CM11, which has been flawless since 2014, and without gapps, after a fresh flash and boot, the 1st text message i receive, instant hard reset.
The phone was s-on when i bought it, i took the latest OTA to grab carrier and OEM software and radios, then i did only the bootloader unlock, flashed TWRP, imaged my system. that was back in 2014 when the phone was first released. Since unlocking i've been running cm11 flawlessly for several months, at times a week or so of uptime, and i use my phone heavily.
Now it's to the point, when i flash a clean CM11, no gapps, just sitting on the table with the tethering on, either USB or wifi, it'll reboot. Sometimes itll get into a reboot loop and it'll take up to 10x of hard resets until it gets android fully loaded (mind you no gapps, no 3rd party, just the rom itself) before it's usable, that's if it doesn't run itself dead with the bootloops.
What's blowing my mind, if it's hardware, then why no issues on sense? Why only issues on non sense, and why now and not before? and the differences are all i can think of is software from: htc, sprint, google
When those 3 are removed, stability issues. but why now and all of a sudden?
anyone want me to supply something from adb? this has truly got me interested. I'm willing to copy and paste and upload some info. I'm really wondering what this issue is.
Thanks!
Bump.
Could a weak battery have something to do with it?
Does sending a text message require a moment of amp draw over the radio transmitter?

Here's what I would say:
Because non-Sense ROMs don't have the same drivers, HTC developers, etc, they tend to be less stable as a group. The developers work hard to mitigate that, but the random reboots are the hardest for them to figure out. If you go through non-Sense ROM threads for years, you'll see that common complaint.
Now, as for CM11 being solid and now it's not, my guess is that updated firmware, radios, etc caused it. CM11 is quite a few years old and was written under older radios.
When the m7 was my daily driver, I had good luck on these three ROMs. They had the occasional reboot, but it was about once a week at most and rebooted right back in.
Resurrection Remix
PAC ROM
NusenSeven (Sense based from the m9)
I would agree to that... Except...
Ive been running the same firmware/radios for the past 4 years.
I got the phone, did the Ota update, unlocked, never changed.
Since then cm11 (the same zip I've been using) has gotten ridiculously unstable since the beginning of the year. Just so odd when it's been flawless, sometimes a month of uptime, and in a month I'll suck in 400Gb through mobile data. And in all this "all of a sudden" unstableness, stock rom work ok.
Just coincidence removing HTC/Google/sprint software gives issues, when before it didn't matter.
As I was typing this, I got a sms reply, instant hard reboot.
I'm going to replace the battery and see if that makes a difference.

I've been also considering if the memory needs to be trimmed?

Misread and thought you updated radios recently. Not sure how replacing the battery would help, but you never know.
I had been running the three ROMs mentioned above with minimal issues when I used the m7 as my daily driver. I had run the latest RUU (see development section) to update to the latest radios, firmware, etc first. As I recall, all three were good. NusenSeven being stock based was most stable, but the others were good too.

Worth a shot, but your instability seems relatively reproducible. Personally never done it. So I'm not sure that would help, but like I said before, you never know.
Well, tonight I'm going to replace the battery.
If that diesnt help, going to relock and ruu just to make sure, unlock and flash the same zip I've been using for years.
If there's still issues, something is going down regarding big brother not enjoying his stuff on my phone.
That's my take and opinion.

Apparently it was the battery.
Ive Had zero issues since the swap.
Sent/received over a 100 messages total, tethering to ps4 and roku for Netflix, Bluetoothing pandora from my phone itself playing a 720 mkv,
Working the **** out of it, no reboots.
Odd why sense roms were not sensitive. Must be something in the kernel?

Great! I'm glad it worked. It is odd, but what you say makes sense. Maybe the Sense ROM had something optimized in the kernel or ROM that the non-Sense ones don't. That's why I love this site; I learn something new everyday. Thanks for putting the results of your work in the thread for future members who may have the same problem.:highfive:
Well, update
It eventually got back into its old habits of randomly rebooting after ending phone calls or sending /receiving messages.
Soon after that it had issues if not coming out of airplane mode, which would require a hard restart, soft restarts were unsuccessful.
About week ago my son wanted to play on it, so i enabled airplane mode so he wouldn't accidentally call anyone.
Enabled airplane mode.
Handed phone to him.
Within 30 seconds I took it back, and in this time frame all he was doing was holding it/touching screen.
The phone now endlessly reboots to the initial HTC logo for maybe 5 seconds, goes black, and repeats. It will do this until the battery is dead.
Plugging in charger results in no battery charge state, screen or LED. After several moments of being plugged in with no signs of life, it'll light up to HTC screen, only 5 seconds later to go black and repeat, endlessly.
Holding power + volume down I can access the bootloader, which before it resets again I can pick recovery option.
It'll then reboot into HTC screen, saying entering recovery up at the top, but never doing so, and continue with boot loops.
The power button is not stuck, as holding only volume down will not encourage bootloader initialization.
Ideas?

It seems to have gone beyond the Sense working but non-Sense not working issues it started with. At this point, I'd probably try to RUU the thing back to stock and see if that fixes it. If not, I'd venture something hardware related. I wrote a guide on how to do this mainly because I kept forgetting all the steps. Hope it helps.

That's too bad. I don't know what to tell you my friend. I saw you could access the bootloader and select recovery, but if it's not stable enough to stay in fastboot, then that's beyond my knowledge capability. At this point, if it were me, I'd buy a new device or take it to a repair shop.
I'm investigating surface mount memory readers and the like.
I'm hoping to solder up something to pull the memory in binary.
The phone wasn't encrypted. There's a handful of photos I'd love to recover. Not having an external sdcard is stupid.

Hey guys. So my phone is acting up I think. When I first got it (8days ago) everything was fine, I synced all my stuff from my LG G6 to my Razer phone 2.
I play 2 games. Call of duty (the new one) and PUBG.
whenever I see someone and I go down to aim in my scope. Everything freezes for half of a second. Then I'm dead.
Also, sometimes, I'm home and my connection to Data AND wifi will have a little x in the logo on the top bar. and I will not have a connection to anything. Turning them off and on does not do the trick, I have to reboot my phone completely to fix it.
Everything is up to date (OS and launcher, and all apps) I run the premium version of Ccleaner every morning at 5 AM.

Sounds dumb but have you re-seated the Sim? Any drops in connection while gaming will see these effects.
Maybe even bad Sim and/or internal radio. Might need warranty replacement.

It happens, my old Nexus 6 was replaced once. No manufacturer is perfect.

I had 2 of these phones and they both had the problem of loosing the data connection. I really liked the phone and would like to try it again, but I see that the problem still exists with this phone.
