Hi
I like my nexus 6 but I don't know how much crack they had smoked by the time they had to decide where to place the buttons.
The buttons are not only all beside each other so you're always pressing the wrong ones, but they are dead center of the side of the phone so every time I pick it up I lock it by pressing the power accidentally. It also does not help that this phone looks the same upright as it does upside down, so you never even know which side to expect the buttons on.
Anyway. Is there a hack/app that would let me change the behavior of the power button? I want to change the phone to lock/standby on a double power button click. I wouldn't even mind a double click to wake! I do not want a double tap to lock. I don't want to rely on tapping on my screen.
Thanks for any help. I've tried popping the power button off my case which is great, but I hate relying on the phone to timeout before going to sleep. I'm not looking for a solution like that.

With alternative launchers (eg Nova) you can assign gestures to homescreen or swipe up on dock icons...
In addition to using a different launchers, you could use something like Screen off and Lock which allows you to replace Google Now in your navring (swipe up from your navigation bar) to be a screen off option.
Neither are exactly what you are looking for, but it is the closest you will get without root and/or a custom ROM. With that you have more options, there are double tap navbar and statusbar to sleep options available. I would imagine Xposed would have some options as well.
Hey guys sorry for the late reply.
I actually do use the nova launcher and its pretty sweet. The issue is not to add more gestures to sleep the screen. The issue is that the power button is so easy to click by mistake. I was hoping for a double tap the power to lock or something to prevent it from locking so easily. I usually press it once by mistake when picking it up..but I doubt I will accidentally pick it up and click it twice consecutively...and if I do, well im sure it wont happen too often.
I have root I am willing to try just about anything so if someone knows of a custom rom that could offer this then that would be sweet. I saw someone mentioned it above. Interested!
Thanks again for all your help
Try Invisible Lock Widget. Works a treat every time. I've used it for years and not once has it not responded.

Hey does anyone know of a widget that i could put on my homescreen to put my phone to sleep... i feel like having to hit the power button everytime is a bit annoying. Trackball wake takes care of getting the screen on but what about off?
Thanks guys
Any ideas? Or how hars would it even be possible?
So you want to replace pressing a single button, with pressing another single button..
I can understand his concerns, since people've reported that their power buttons have gotten worn off/need longer to press/etc. It's why I've taken up using Reboot Control for rebooting and powering down and Lockbot to press any button to wake up the phone. Another widget or app for turning off the screen would be great too, IMO.

am also having to use reboot control for this matter, having an extra standby widget would be perfect.
After wake with trackball, this is second most wanted for me (and i'll not touch power button again). There is a thread in app's section, but no replies till now. Can it be so difficult???
Even if there's no way to directly turn off the screen, there should be some way around it by doing something like saving the current screen timeout time, setting the screen timeout time to 0 (or somewhere between 0 and 1) so the screen will turn off, then set a timer for like 1 second to reset the screen timeout time to the original time?

Will pressing any button work with the Nexus One's non physical buttons (back, menu, home, search)?
Not the capacitive buttons, nope, just the volume rocker and the tracknipple.

Aww thought it might be possible to use a button which wouldn't become loose or unresponsive after too much use.
I feel like the power button would benefit in te long run from not being pressed multiple times per day and much more convienent to tap a widget on screen
I'm all for it. either an app or a widget, some short cut that can be added to the home screen to put it to sleep.

Ha! Tracknipple... funny as sh!t!!
maybe even double click trackball or long press one of the soft keys along the bottom of the screen
A widget would be a cool option instead of beating the power button to death
Why not just shorten the up time to less then 15 seconds?
Then you have too switch the time whenever your reading the news or a text longer than15 seconds.
So is a widget like this even possible?
Any news on this matter? Is it possible?

Second that. It seems my power button is beginning to fail already.
i'm not sure if this answers you question, but usually i push my home button to wake up my phone then slide the screen to unlock it, just like how i do with my iphone previously, no settings is done with my phone
Yeah, same, I always unlock my SGS with the Home-button..
Oh. Did not know that. I don't have the phone yet. Was just reading some people's thoughts about the phone and they were annoyed about the Power button being used to wake the phone. Guess, I should've researched it some more. lol. Thanks for the info.
Either way, I think I figured it out on how to enable/disable the other buttons waking up the phone if I wanted to in that thread I posted. Should be able to wake it up using the other buttons as well instead of being limited to the power button and the home button. Just gotta have root and edit the keyboard layout then push back.
the menu and back keys are capacitative keys, not really ideal for waking with if the phone is carried in your pocket or something
Can anybody recommend an app what puts a lock icon widget on the homescreen? My case don't allow to press power button, and button savior is too confusing for my mother.
similar Q
Howdy, pardners!
I on the other hand wonder, whether there is possibility to disable onscreen lock - my back button is hardly reachable so i am not worried that it will get pressed. Sliding the screen everytime i just what to know the time or what ever is however quite annoying. Any chance to disable only touch screen, no screensaver - just Laucher home screen with clock, calendar..., unlocking with back button or quick some combination of others?
Would be magical !
regards
In regards to the first post: have you looked in nook touch tools? There may be a way to set one of the side buttons as the power button, therefore locking it.
Good luck!
I dont know if anyone has it too but:
Go to button savior, check the box that says android recent task.(just bottom of the first page).
And everytime that i press the n button long, it goes to lockscreen. i dont know why. Also long pressing the home button on the button saviour does the same thing too.
The power button and the "n" button go to different electrical sections than the four hard side buttons
The two buttons go to dedicated input pins, the four buttons are part of a scanning matrix.
Although it might be possible to statically enable the whole matrix so that you could detect a button push without scanning (while asleep)
it seems that they would have not handled the buttons separately if that were the case.
In short, any button can be assigned to power and put the Nook to sleep.
Although I'm not sure if any button would be able to wake it?
im using Ultimate Dynamic Navbar because when i replaced the screen on my note 4 i accidentally got too close to the buttons and cut the recent and back buttons. so they no longer work. i completely removed the buttons since i cut them. everything else works fine but for some reason when im charging the phone something is causing the back or recents button to be pressed. this only happens when im charging the phone and have the screen on. how can i disable the buttons? i already tried to do the Generic.kl commenting out (putting a # infront of each line) but that did not help (unless im not entering the the # on the correct line) and it didnt help. i still get the recent apps while charging the phone and the screen is on. anyone know of a way to disable it with another method?

Well I know that an xposed module called Xposed Additions can do it. Hopefully that will work in your case.

i tried gravity box for Lollipop on the PACMAN rom which kinda helps. the thing is that the buttons seem to have swapped so im guessing its because of the rom. before it kept pressing the recents button now its pressing the back button. i also was able to see what was going on action wise as in long presses or double taps with gravity box. it seems that long presses is the most frequent cause of this issue but i also get a few double taps and single taps randomly. i tried to select no action for these events on the back button with half luck. gravity box does not have a do nothing action so the only thing i could do was do a custom action without selecting an app. but when it gets triggered i get a toast saying no such app, due to no app selected in gravity box. this is something ill bring up to the devs of gravity box. ill check out your suggestions and will reply back with the results, THANKS FOR THE REPLY!

Yeah. Seems Xposed Additions will work then. It has actions for both Click and Long Press for all the hardware buttons with the Screen On/Off. It's basically a mod to do just that...remap the buttons or disable.
I use it to disable the Home button while the screen is off. Also to use the volume buttons for skipping songs while screen is off.

the only issue with it was that it would not save the settings when i restarted. but i did use it to see what key value back was and put a # in it and restarted. seems to have worked so far. i wonder why the additions wont stick after a reboot. hopefully if this works ill be able to choose which on screen buttons to select from the pacmans/gravity box or ultimate dynamics. each has its pros and cons.
9 out of 10 screenshots I take are by accident when I'm trying to press the power button to turn the screen off. With the volume buttons opposite the power button, it's too easy to press them. Is there a way to change how a screenshot is taken?
Enable the swipe gesture in advance features

That's already on, but the other way I'm talking about is still active.
Hold you phone differently, unless your hands are so monstrous that preventing your fingers from pressing the volume button is impossible.
Thanks for the Apple-grade suggestion like I've got bad reception on my iPhone. lol
Holding the phone as usual in my right hand, it's not typically a problem. But frequently if it's in my left or I do a quick reach with either to turn the screen on and view notifications and turn it back off, I end up with an accidental screenshot. If I could make it require a momentary hold of the buttons before it takes a screenshot, it would do the trick.

You could try installing a Bixby button remapper. Many of them allow you to set different functions to your hardware/mechanical buttons & or set delays of different intervals while keeping the current buttons doing the usual stock actions. If you are rooted you only need to install once. If you are stock UnRooted you need to run adb commands every time you turn off or reboot but this is the only option I can think of that will do what you need done. Bxactions is one app and another is button Mapper. Cheers & hope this helps you out.
