First Round watch - LG Watch Urbane

I just purchased the Urbane so for so good the only negative I have is $400.... this is not worth $400
Round content,
I find that for the most part the watch has space to the right and left, the bottom row is shorter, the top row is shorter;
but somehow watch faces fill the screen.

No one forced you to pay $400. Did someone put a gun to your head, and make you buy it?

I think it is too much money but I wanted a watch now, so I bought one ....... no gun.
It is not like there is that much of a choice in Canada. (I have the Sony Smartwatch 3)
This or the under powered flat tire MOTO 360

Wonder what the update I just got is...
When I synced the watch it said I was at 5.1.1 but 20 minutes later I got an System update.

I agree with you that LG Urbane is too expensive. It is not worth $400. There many circle screen watch available on the market in reasonable price. I will never waste my money on LU Urbane Watch. I will buy Moto 360 or upcoming Modular smart watch. These smart watches are really stylish and advance level.

Mine was $250 on sale. I would not have paid $400 American dollars for it, but happy with it for what I paid. I gave away my 360 because it looked good, but just wasn't up to par...

only negative is price but you love it, that means it worth the price, and it's not a negative.

Does the bargain price of the Nexus 4 make it less exclusive??

I was talking to one of my buddies here at work who is also an Android Freak like myself and we were discussing about how Google and LG can sell such a device packing what it does for $299 or $349.
It's seems like it has really beautiful build quality also, while Samsung sells a plastic dual core S3 with half the RAM, lower resolution screen for double the price!
Don't get me wrong, I am both happy and sad that the phone is so damn cheap. Glad because it is so dirt cheap that I can buy it as a backup phone to my Note 2 and just not worry about it falling and breaking or whatever. Replacing just the LCD on my Note 2 would probably pay for the whole Nexus 4!
Sad because since it is so cheap, it almost gives me the impression that it's some kind of gophone, pay as you go device. You know, a disposable phone. Something any 13 year old who mows lawns on the weekends can afford. Also judging by the comments and anticipation in this forum, those are most likely the majority of buyers. 13 year old geeks. =)
To me the device lost something special, exclusivity.
When I first picked up my Note 2, everybody at work was in awe and were ready to go purchase one immediately.
Then I told them how much I paid, $690 off contract and they all had sticker shock. Only one other fella at my work has a Note 2 besides me now, and that's my boss. The device feels special to me.
I know this post seems a bit ridiculous, but that's something that is bugging me a little about the device. What do you guys think? A little something inside kinda wish Google priced this device similar to the Galaxy Nexus. I think it would have been more special to me. Am I crazy?

Just because people are excited, you're assuming they're 13? Right...
... and imo, the price does not make it any less exclusive.
You could always buy two and strap them back-to-back for that "cachet" feel?
In any case, mainstream smartphones, like all technology, will always be getting less exclusive. If exclusivity is of import, the Tag Heuer Android phones look quite sharp, but probably will be behind on the OS curve...
Setting aside the ridiculousness of caring about exclusivity, your work colleagues likely got sticker-shock because they don't know much about the cellphone market. I'm sure they don't think of the iPhone as an "exclusive" device, and yet it's in the same range as the Note 2 off-contract. The Nexus 4 may not be a monetarily exclusive device, but it's still going to have limited sales due to the number of people who are informed enough about their options to pick one up.

Front-to-front. The back's the best-looking part, after all; and the part that displays the ever-important logos.
You should realize that there are people outside of XDA who don't even know that this phone exists.
You say less exclusive... I say more support.
How many people actually know what a Nexus phone even is? I don't know anyone who does. They don't really advertise and come to think of it, I've never seen anyone with a Nexus (any of them).
No, it makes it lighter on my wallet. I don't care how many other people have it as long as I do.

The price is being subsidized. Just making it easier to reach more people. This way el goog can make even more money with mobile ad revenue.

Which is why we shouldn't worry about the phone being out of stock. Hopefully the stock outweighs the demand.
If having exclusivity means paying $1000 dollars, I'll take a less exclusive phone any day for $350
You think $500+ phones are exclusive? You'll find more Note 2s and iPhones than N4.
That said, the more the N4s out there, the more accessories there will be for it. And thats always a good thing.

Perhaps. Google may keep production low for the first wave after watching previous launches. There seems to be a lot of uncertainty about the popularity of this phone due to the lack of LTE, expandable storage, and maybe inadequate battery. Those of us looking to buy the phone can only hope that it is either not that popular or that Google didn't lower production.

You know what I got from reading this? That you need to feel special/better than your friends. That's no reason to jack up the price of a phone.
Tell you what, I'll buy mine, then sell it to you for $859.99, that'll really blow your colleagues out of the water! Or how about avoiding the faux pas of bragging about how much money you spent on a cell phone. Hell, if anything I'll be showing my friends this phone and telling them how cheap it was. Look at this thing, it's awesome, and cost half the price of your NoteII!

I don't see anything wrong of a 13 year old can save up and purchase this device, it allows a younger audience to own a modern smartphone without the hefty price tag. Exclusivity to one type of group (in this case being age) isn't somthing company's want for their products, and if they lure in the younger users with the low price tag, that means more marketshare for them. The nexus 4 isn't a fashion item like more popular phones such as the iPhone, or even the galaxy s3, it's made for contract free or value plan customers who want a fast phone for a reasonable price.
Lol I think this thread should be closed. =/
Who cares? Does it matter if the phone is not as "exclusive" as you would like?
It's an amazing phone at a great price, it will further push the Android ecosystem.
If you want exclusive, stick with foreign imports of obscure devices.

LG hampering Nexus 4 production

There's a rumor on french websites about LG not very happy about the success of the N4, for various reasons:
- Not enough profit per phone and market breaker, LG set a new price standard which every high end phones can't compete, including LG Optimus G, and not so enjoyable hypothesis for future smartphones sales and profits.
- Hence its limitation for very few countries when it can easily be sold in every national Play Store with scheduled launches and good will.
It's a flagship not destined to be massively sold, just a flag.
- Carriers/Hardware suppliers/Competition (legal threats) pressure?
What do you think ?

I think im hungry and need to eat lunch.
N4 is a chance for LG to show they can do high end and quality. How they were convinced to have this selling beside the optimus g but at half the price I doubt we'll ever know.
Besides that, obviously nobody but those looking to get one are happy about it. Given that this is only a win for consumers, wouldn't surprise me to see LG give poor stock, although it may not be up to them and already be in a big contract.

It doesn't matter whether LG is happy or not; this is the course that the Illuminati mapped out for mankind after world leaders made contact with extraterrestrial intelligences shortly after WWII. Through the United Nations, which is really a puppet regime of the Illuminati designed to prepare us for contact with advanced alien lifeforms and technology, they ensure that this kind of high-end tech will slowly but steadily become cheaper so that we all become so used to having it be an integral part of our lives until we accept the idea of it being integrated biologically and the aliens can use it to turn us into mindless, cybernetic slaves.
Now that is a conspiracy theory, my friend.

The Nexus 4 only came to be because Google guided/forced them to make it how THEY wanted it done.
If you want to see LG's industrial design/interface go look at the Optimus G and the gazillion other LG phones which didn't sell well (In the U.S. at least).
The only thing the Nexus 4 proves is that Google can turn a phone all about the specs into something that actually looks good and has decent specs.

This is what it really boils down to, I think. LG is a substantially smaller player in the smartphone game (at least in the States), and designing the flagship Android phone for Google will only help them to establish a better name for themselves in the U.S. market. Whatever loss or minimal profit there is to be had with the Nexus 4, the key is that people who might never have even considered an LG phone before are now clamoring for one. Who knows? If it's a great phone, I might become an LG fan.
Is it time for a mandatory IQ test before posting?

Most likely the Nexus came to be because they came at google with the best bid and Google took them up on the bid. If samsung would have given them a better offer I'm sure they would have taken it.

Krugman refers to this as the Tchotchke Economy. It's been forced upon us by the elite, the so called "anointed ones".. it goes deep, too: prime ministers, Hollywood, the heads of academia, bankers. Only a select few. Could it be when you have all the power and all the money and all the lands and all the art, you have to do something new, you have to provide cheap cellphones to geeks just to spite LG?

Just hypothetical questions....
If you are Samsung, how would you compete versus N4 given the very low price?
Don't you think the Android market is now less attractive for you?
Suddenly, you are now forced to come low price products...
Suddenly, you now cannot have more profits...
What's your take on this?
If N4 is being sold in the street store, with this quality and the same low price as Play Store... Who would buy SGS3? Who would buy LG OG?...
Suddenly, all other high end Android becoming unattractive... Don't you think?

I think Samsung has built a fan base, similar to Apple. I can't stand whenever people talk about Android, it's all Samsung.
So I'm not worried about them not able to compete.
I also have a conspiracy that my neighbors upstairs and downstairs have sex at the same time just to annoy me.
Very relevant.

They are (1) not nearly as cultish and (2) despite what you may think, they're probably more devoted to software than the hardware. I think the immense demand for the N4 speaks volumes. Price matters, and there is no other phone that comes even remotely close at this price.

Retail Cost "Excuse"

This speakerphone is probably the worst I have heard. It seems no matter who is on the other end of the phone call whether it be a cell or land line, speakerphone sucks. However, playing music through spotify is quite a bit better. Even still this is one of the quietest, if not the quietest speakers I have heard. I actually may agree with the "iVerge" review on that aspect. Us fans of Google / Android and the Nexus program have a hard time accepting criticism for the things we love. Hell anyone has a hard time accepting criticism for what you love or want to love.
When compared to the 5S; the Nexus 5 at full volume is equal to the 5S at half.
The speakerphone may be the sole reason for me returning the Nexus 5. I love the screen, the battery seems great especially for a first day charge, and the camera app will be updated. You cannot update or make a speaker quality better, unfortunately.
Comparing the costs of the Nexus 5 vs the high end units should not count as an excuse we have to make as consumers. "Oh it only cost $349 or $399, I should expect to have a *****ty speakerphone, or possibly poor camera performance." Price is the excuse that everyone makes when something is wrong with the Nexus 5, or any of the past Nexus phones. Stop making excuses as consumers. Shouldn't we all want the best that Google is capable of? The phones components may very well be similar in price to the HTC One or S4, Google just chooses to make much less profit because they don't need to make most of their revenue from selling cellular devices.
The iPhone 5S is $199 to make. Apple chooses to sell them for $649. If Apple can make a great phone for $199 then so should Google and LG be able to.
Even if the Nexus 5 cost $199 to make or perhaps $250, or $275 an extra $75 above the cost of the iPhone for a huge company such as LG should be plenty to spare to make THE HIGHEST quality phone out there.
The S4 cost $237 to build, for example and arguably has certain higher quality components such as the 13MP camera, and 2600mAh battery and an equivalent screen size of 5 inches. I could not find the HTC One cost to build.
If Google is really all about getting 4.4 and android into the next billion customers, they should make the highest quality phones and perhaps think about selling them at or near cost to build and make profit from the play store instead.
Unfortunately the only thing for me that is better specifically about the Nexus 5 over the iPhone is the screen (not comparing OS's). Man is it gorgeous. And when that's the only thing that is better, I am disappointed to say but it is going back. And no, the additional retail price of the iPhone is not a relevant argument as explained above as it is likely that they have a somewhat similar cost to build.
I'll take an HTC One-2 around March with a 5 inch display, normal camera and without the huge bezels.

Google and LG are big companies; they should probably just give the phone away for free to build brand recognition and get us into the Android ecosystem. The divide between rich and poor widens!
So... I don't get it. You're saying that things being lower price is no excuse for being not as good as more expensive things? You do realize how backwards that is, right?
Price aside, the Nexus 5 can definitely compete with the high end phones you listed. Maybe not AS good, but definitely able to compete. It does everything I want it to do and more. If they had to skimp somewhere, I'm glad it was the speakerphone and not the CPU or screen or build quality or anything else that, in my opinion, are way more important.

I am not saying that the cost of the phone is too expensive... that is not the point of the argument.
The point of the argument is that, "If Google is really all about getting 4.4 and android into the next billion customers, they should make the highest quality phones and perhaps think about selling them at or near cost to build and make profit from the play store instead."
They should charge $359 instead of 349 and give us a $10 better speaker.
The speaker and camera both destroy the speaker/camera that was found on my S3, so I'm more than happy.
Personally I would have gladly spent another $100 for a nexus phone with a better camera battery and speaker.

THIS is my point! So would have I. And the thing is I doubt Google / LG would have had to spend even close to $100 to get it done. Prices drop considerably when you're selling hundreds of thousands of these.
Lets say that Google is making $100 off of every $349 Nexus 5 (I know they aren't). Instead of raising the cost to $449 to include the better speakers to still make the same profit, they should keep the cost at or near $349 and sell the phones at or near cost to build and make profit from the play store instead.

Gear VR For S6 and S6 Edge Preorders Start today!

Best buy is taking preorders for the Gear VR for the S6 and edge. What are your guy's opinions of the device?? Has anybody tried it out here?
I kind of want to get one but they're priced at $250 so I'm kind of weary...

i'll wait for the review and feedback before jump the gun on this.
Yesterday it was announced everywhere that it would be $200, so I am kinda bummed by Best Buy's pricing as well.
Yeah, I thought it was going to be $200 as well. When I saw Best Buy's price I was a little bummed. I'm hoping it either drops or they include some kind of bonus with the device. I doubt it though.
Hopefully one of our XDA compadres has some hands on experience with one and can give us some insight.
Samsung hasn’t revealed a price, most of the site assume it will cost the same as the existing Galaxy Note 4 edition, which is $199, read more from the links below.

I have an Oculus Rift DK2.
This will be worth every penny.

Well I said "this will" meaning discussing something in the future, whereas I already own a Rift.
But to put it more plainly, I have Oculus's main peripheral and it's amazing, so I've no doubts that the upcoming one will be fantastic in its own right. Yes, a phone can't hold a candle to a PC in terms of processing and graphics power, but you'd also have no wires to deal with.

i know, because you and nothingshocking ask why Bestbuy charged $250 when supported only $200, that's why i said Samsung hasn't revealed the price yet and i included the link.
Has anyone seen these listed in the UK yet? I'm interested depending on final price.
Pretty sure I'm going to be buying one but my guess is with Australian tax if its even offered for sale here I'll be looking at $400+ lol considering samsung only just recently started selling normal gear vr here i think its gonna be ages for the S6 version landing here.
Just going to order one from overseas if the reviews are good.

That's a bummer that they're so much more. I think I will end up getting one as well.
Bestbuy is now charging 199. Just ordered mine.
I switched from the Note 4 + Gear VR to the S6 Edge.
They have some very impressive videos and games with the Gear VR. Also very impressive, no matter if you're a fan or not, are the adult videos you can get for it. Technically it's extremely funny to see what a different feeling those glasses can give you. As I said, no matter if you're a fan of this stuff or not. You should definitely check one of these videos out anyway.
Am I going to buy a VR for the S6 Edge? No, not now. There is a huge lack of content to keep you interested in it. It's getting more content every day, especially since they released the Oculus store for the Gear VR but a lot of the stuff is not even worth a free download.
Personally, I think the Oculus Rift is a better deal right now (VR glasses wise. I know that you need a pc and can't use it with the phone). Especially when you see people playing games like "Alien" or there was a horror game demo that I watched on Youtube (don't remember the title). Those videos already make you crap your pants without playing this game. THIS kind of content in this quality is currently completely absent for the Gear VR. I hope it's following, but it's not there yet.
One good thing of the updated revision of the VR for the S6E is, that they bring something to cool down the phone. Can be quiet annoying if you get a message every 1min "Wait until the phone cooled down, otherwise you risk to damage it. Press a button to continue anyway".
I'll definitely let some time pass and wait what content is coming up for it. But I'll definitely get another one in the future. Question is just: How fast that will be
Yeah, I saw that they were only $199 now. I just also saw that the oculus rift is coming out Q1 of 2016.. So I think I may hang around and wait for that. not sure. I want to be able to bring it to my friends house and stuff so I can show it off though. I am going to go try it in store on the 8th and then decide :/. I am torn right now lol..
I ordered one today.
I want to see if its alot better then the google cardboard..

I have a cardboard kit as well and its the main reason I wanted to get the Gear VR lol. It is awesome, but I think the real headset is going to be so much better!!
Just ordered one as well, but need to wait 4-5 days for pick up, dont forget to grab bestbuy movers coupon for 10% off to set off the tax. I'll see if it's worth $200, if not, I can always return it within 14 days.

Should I buy the Pebble Time?

Hey,
I have one gathered before me which costs around 95GBP, including shipping to my country.
I've told my dad that I'm interested in getting a watch and particularly this one. However, since it's my first time wearing a watch, will it be comfortable will I notice it, do I sleep with it? wink:
I'm pretty much sold with pebble, I like their direction, the price is right, now I need a final push to order it.
Persuade me into getting the watch please.
Thanks in advance,
Best regards,
Peppa
I was looking for a simple smartwatch that can show notifications and who's calling, i spent almost two weeks seeing reviews about android wear and Pebble. I ended up ordering a Pebble Time yesterday What had me sold was the battery life, the dev support, brightness in direct sunlight and the simplicity of the watch (and the price )
Pebble watches are the only smart watch that is also compatible with iOS. This was my big selling point.

Hey guys, what if a i wanted to reply to a whatsapp text with ad audio recording? I'm referring to an actual voice message, not to a text typed with my voice.
Is it possible?
