I sent my nexus 5 with a cracked screen (and running lollipop) in to LG to see if the repair was covered under warranty. It wasn't unfortunately, but i notice the phone was sent back to me running some sort of development build named Key Lime Pie.
It seems to be a mix of 4.3 and 4.4. Chrome sees it as 4.3, however it has the 4.4 colors and Easter egg (with 3 new icons, a key lime pie icon and 2 that i don't understand). It also has a strange boot animation that i have never seen before. Here are some screenshots.
https://flic.kr/s/aHske2c2mS
There was another nexus 5 user who had the same build (may be more than a year ago) ...
I think u should flash stock kk to get ota or directly 5.1
Ah I miss the 4.x lockscreen.
I found the thread of someone else who had the same thing, but this is a newer build. That thread was from 2013 and this build is dated Apr 17 2014. Here is what i noticed that i found interesting
- Clearly, Kit Kat had already been chosen for the name, given the logo and kit kat icon in the Easter egg, so I'm surprised it still said Key Lime Pie.
- There is a "Google Photos" app that has a different icon, but is also an extension of Google+ which clearly is the predecessor to the current "Photos" app
- In the easter egg there are 6 icons i have seen so far that are not present in Kit Kat that i have attached. Other than the Key Lime Pie and candy cane icons, I cant say for sure what the rest are. If anyone here can identify that would be awesome.
Could you post the boot animation?

I'm able to identify almost all of them, they exist in stock KK BTW (if you played long enough with the easter egg) :
-The donut thingy is called Donut Burger
-The slice of pie is obviously Key Lime Pie
-The pudding thingy is Flan (Flan is an old codename that's never used for Android 2.2, which is Froyo)
-The triangle with a weird face is called Dandroid, which supposed to be original Android mascot
-The stacked square (which looks like ice cream sandwich) is Petitfour (based on png of KK framework), this is the name of Android 1.1 (before Cupcake)
-The candy cane is supposed to be another codename for Jelly Bean (before it was released), it's called Jandy Cane
There's also a zombie gingerbead (reference to old Gingerbread easter egg which is Android surrounded by zombies using phones)

Interesting, and now that I played with it for a while on my KK device and saw them after a while I feel like a bit of a fool. It did take much longer to encounter than on the development build though. Also, dandroid really creeps me out, very happy that didn't become the official mascot.
The bootanimation is the Ice Cream Sandwich one. Here's another example of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj60gbviQoo
I've seen this firmware before, being reported by another user around a year ago, while I don't know if that user dumped it.
If possible could you please dump this firmware ? I know it's pretty buggy in a number of areas but it has the old Webview as far as I know, something that will make Flash work fully among minor other things.
Also I want to dig into this build :3
It's just an early KitKat build.
Can we get a build out of this?
why would anybody want to have a build of this?Im not being a smartass, im really wondering why would anyone want to use a test build of an old operating system
please make a build out of it

Why would lg wipe the phone? Its one thing if they changed the motherboard but for a screen replacement? And they didn't even replace they screen which makes it more odd.

LG phones have 2 type of stock roms. FACTORY and USER. LG flash FACTORY ROM when they get your phone to do tests and etc. When LG finished with the repair they flash back the USER rom. In your case they forgot to flasg back the USER rom.
Is it possible to make a dump of it? I can help you out with that.

Fixed that for you.
i somewhere read that we can expect 2.3 for SGS for the end for the first quarter of the year...but are you people using stock ROMS ? i think Darky's ROM is working on a multi-device able to detect and flash devices accordingly, shouldn't that fix your sms problems ?
ps: i have the i9000, but what is "the sms problem", i don't think i have it..
Everybody bug samsung to skip 2.3 and prep for 3.0.
With carriers charging 15-20¢/SMS and having a free replacement (google voice, google talk, emails)
I really couldn't care less about SMS. I should even remove the SMS app from my phone.

It's literally hurting my brain that you think that. Check back after 3.0 line is cut and put up on AOSP, you'll see all the honeycomb roms(for phones) floating around.

You can get rom floating around of about anything, doesn't mean it's made for it... You can even get a whole Linux distrubution working on SGS, still it's not "official" or optimised...
Still, nothing will be official and Honeycomb is still optimised for Tablet. I don't know why your "brain hurts", but when google sais their thing is optimised for something, since they made the thing, you'd better beleive them!
hell, you can put a Corvette engine in a Civic, still it's not meant or optimised for.

Honeycomb adds "tablet" (ie big screen) specific support. It's not an independent branch, feature sets will trickle down accordingly to phones, they will both be 3.0.
P.S. A rom built from AOSP is as official as you can get in regards to Android.

You can't read title can't you?
"New UI designed from the ground up for tablets"
The reason it's (honeycomb) taking another number (3.0) instead of following the same (2.x) is because it's for tablets...
as far as AOSP vs. Official, their's a huge difference between official source code (from google) vs official rom (from samsung).
I can't tell the future, but I can most certainly say that Kies would offer 2.4 hell before 3.0 for our devices (which are smartphones, not tablet).

The large screen views (which never existed) are built from the "ground up" because, guess what? They never existed in the first place.
The reason it's taking 3.0 is because it's a huge jump in feature set, and qualifies as a version realease and not just a point release.
If a device has a certain feature it can access certain API from the android OS. If a device doesn't, then it can't. It's that simple.
"tablets" have the big screen feature and they can access the nested view API's. You don't know how android works. there is ONE line, which sits at 2.3.2, and it's device independent.
Just like the Nexus S can access the NFC api's because it has an NFC chip.
AOSP is the code that google/samsung/moto/acer/etc pull from, and build more on top.
Cyanogen roms are on par and equivalent(better actually) as google's roms, you can't get more "official" than AOSP. MFG roms are actually less true to AOSP as they are modified. You probably won't see 3.0 on the current galaxy line at all, but that has nothing to do whether it works on there or not.
Chill out dude! Take a deep breath....
This is getting nowhere, running in circle...
I'm pretty sure we won't see Honeycomb as a release by the makers (Samsungs, Motorola, LG, HTC, name em) on any smartphone. Don't know why this is such a big deal for you and what you don't get on the whole deal but if you want,
You can bookmark this thread and if you see an official honecomb as an official release by samsung or LG or HTC or google on a Smartphone, revive it from the archives and rub it on my face, I'll gladly take the fall...
Chill out? I think I'm just typing normally on a keyboard? Maybe I'm smashing keys, and don't recognize it?
You don't understand how android works if you think it won't appear on phones, we're not going around in circles. You're just wrong.
Well we all know that the next version of android is going to to start with "J".
Here is a report from This is my next giving us info about the probable naming of android next version.
This is my next is reporting an exclusive from a trusted source that the next iteration of Android will be code-named Jelly Bean. This makes follows in Google's habit of code-naming the Android updates after sweets.
The trend began with Android 1.5 which was called Cupcake, and continued with Donut (1.6), Eclair (2.0/2.1), Froyo (2.2), Gingerbread (2.3), Honeycomb (3.x), and Ice Cream Sandwich (?.?). It isn't much of a surprise that Jelly Bean would follow, because there aren't too many iconic sweets that start with the letter J. And, it'll get even more difficult when we hit K, although our money will be on Key Lime Pie when the time comes.
Not much more information is available about the update, but the source claimed the update would include "game-changing stuff" that didn't make it into ICS. Seems logical because it's always the "game-changing" stuff that gets bumped first when cutting features for release. We feel pretty safe in assuming it will launch around November of 2012 and be found first on the Nexus 4. Google seems to be settling into a yearly update pattern, and has released major updates and lead devices in the late fall/early winter for the last 3 major phone releases.

So apparently Android 5 is coming in q2, before lg even gets ics out. I knew this would be the case with this phone, we might get ICS but that glory will only last a couple of months. I would have got the google phone if they just put a damn SD card in there.

Says it isn't for phones though. Also, original source is digitimes which is a bit pants.
Well to be fair google are pretty fast at rolling out these OS's, they release the sources to carriers ect to make their roms then by the time the carriers have rolled out an update google are talking of releasing a new version, they cant win really and it also says jellybean is mainly if not exclusively for tablets so use your brain and quit whining.
Jellybean is only for tablets! It's like honeycomb
Why would they make a seperate version for tablets since they brought out ICS to combine the smartphoneversion with the tabletversion?

Agree. Every second version can't be called something with sandwich. Would be kinda stupid.
As it seems to be a dual boot system Android/Chrome, it's certainly more convenient for tablets.. But too soon to say, June is in 4 months.

Actually we don't really bother about when the official update arrives... Never looked back once a person flashes a custom rom
If we get the official update earlier, it is way more easy to build a fully functioning custom rom

Hiya!
I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, the 9.2". I am really pleased with the performance, looks, weight (it's like a feather!), but there is one thing I miss greatly from my old Nexus 7: Material Design
I really like how simple and neat it looks, honestly. I've been doing some research and the only options I'm finding are installing the Samsung 6.0.1 firmware. Has anyone successfully managed to install and run the stock Marshmallow, like the one that the Nexus device runs?
For the moment we only have cm12.1 and cm13 which are close to stock (plus cm theme and tweaks) Android but are still in development (not considered as stable build)

Considering OP just bought the device, it is more than likely a 2016 model that does not have an available Cyanogenmod yet.

There were some improvements, but nothing to write home about. I'm irritated that Sammy gives theme support to their new phones and don't even allow us to set to a darker theme to preserve battery without doing the salt the earth battery saver feature. :silly:
I don't think you're missing much with this update, more disappointment than anything, I also don't think OP's tablet is a 2016 because s/he isn't already on MM... I heard it shipped with MM. Sammy knows best. Sammy also leaves flagship android tablet with broken promises... and dreams. "Theme support coming" my eye.
I think it's telling that you can mod your build prop and install theme store from a shady source and it works... (haven't tried, the topic is floating around here somewhere.)
I hope at least this will mark an acceleration of update cycles for security purposes, especially since some researcher endorsed sammy devices for update speed.
Thanks everyone for the quick answers! I guess my only option is to wait for a more stable and fully functional Cyanogen then. I guess patience will be the key here :-/
My model is definitely the 2015, as it came with Lollipop and I had to download Marshmallow myself via the update tool, btw. Not much worried as the changes seem to be minimal though.
