Download Booster enabled - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

For those who have enabled download booster on your rooted phone, have you found that when enabled it does nothing. I'm under the impression that just b/c it is enabled due to ATT lack of software on their end the feature will not work no matter what.
Searching some year old threads state what is suspect the feature doesn't work b/c ATT isn't setup for it on their end.

It worked fine on the s5. I haven't tried it on this phone yet.

When you say it worked on the S5, did you actually see the icon go into an active status and change color? I have it on mine and other than turning it on and the icon showing up it never changes color indicating it is actually working. I believe from what I have read it does not work b/c ATT does not support it.

Now that I remember, I flashed an international rom on the at&t s5. When I enabled it there was a notification in the notification shade that showed the download speed and progress. You will for sure know when it's enabled, I was getting 50mbps download when on WiFi alone I would get about 6mbps.

But even with the international ROM if you were on the ATT network I don't see how it would have made a difference b/c ATT does not have this capability supported on their end. I could be wrong but from what I have researched and read all indicators point to the function not working even if you can enable it via root or other methods.

It worked on my s5 too. I was in a custom ROM like dynamic kat or unity ROM. It had a notification in the shade showing how much was network and how much was WiFi.
I think it can work on the s6 but just adding a button to turn it on isn't gonna work. Its gonna need some things edited somewhere. I'm not good at that stuff so I'll just wait till someone figured it out.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using XDA Free mobile app

I wonder how much of that info was accurate from the notification, or maybe ATT at one time didn't know users were getting around and now has patched it and is blocking it.

Have a look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713897&page=4
The reason im skeptical is b/c this is pretty recent and it is related to the S5

That is on the stock rooted at&t rom. Those of us that flashed an international rom were able to use download booster with great ease. If I remember correctly, it was a quick setting in the notification shade. It was pretty awesome if you needed to download a large file quickly.

I understand, but the issue is if ATT allows it on their end or not. It seems like as of right now it is not possible on ATT.

It works on my s6. I am running xtrestolite rom from the unified section. It also worked just fine on my s5. It works just the same as it did on the s5

Market update

I have a weird issue and I'm not sure what's going on.
A few days ago I noticed that the market layout got changed a little bit. The three tabs on top changed to Apps|Games|T-mobile. Going to the t-mobile tab shows recommendations from t-mobile. The next day I noticed that it was gone and back to the original Apps|Games|Downloads, and the weird part is that now the market icon is back to the 1.6 one (I've had the android 2.0 icon for a while since I'm running cyanogen).
Oh and I checked with aTrackdog and it says I have Market v1.66 and there's a v1.71 available. Any idea what's going on?
I have a G1 on t-mobile and running CM v4.2.9.1
edit: I feel like this is an app issue and not an issue with the ROM, hence the posting in the apps section. Also, it happened randomly and not immediately after I updated to the newest CM release or something.
Things just get jittery when running apps2sd which you probably are.
I didn't know rooted phones were suppose to get that Update.
So idk you really shouldn't be getting OTA updates like that ESPESH from Tmobile.
So there was actually an update for the market for non-rooted G1 users on t-mo? When did that roll out?

Yea, it's been rolling out/bloggers/sites have been asking if anyone has gotten and it's seemed like it was rolling out, then got pulled back and delayed a lot.
But all the Update does it replace Mydownloads with Tmobiles lame apps.
But the main part about this is it allows you to buy applications and place the cost on your tmobile bill so you don't nessicarily need a credit card which is really cool.
But I'm pretty sure Cyan already twatted it's not likely to get ported to rooted phones or something like that which is understandable since it deals with Tmobile's billing info.
Oh okay thanks for the clarification. It's weird that the update got rolled out to me. I guess it didn't go through the regular OTA update 'channels' or something. I follow a few android blogs and didn't see any mention of it. Anyway I don't really care about adding the cost to my bill, both options are the same to me. As for the tab, yeah the t-mo tab is pretty stupid, I don't care about their recommendations, plus it means it's an extra click to get to my downloads.
So I guess in theory if I reflash the ROM I should at least get the android 2.0 market icon back? I'm gonna wait til tomorrow and try it (since I guess Cyanogen is releasing an update tomorrow)

The change has NOTHING to do with having a rooted phone. In fact, it has nothing to do with the application itself. It is all on the server end.
There are a few bugs that they need to work out before deploying it to the masses. I have been running Cyan's newest ROM since it was released and my tabs have changed from Download to Tmobile and back. Why? Because it's coming from Google's server as such.

Did your icon also revert to the 1.6 one? Anyway I guess that's good news. Means that future changes like this will also roll out to rooted phones.
I really don't think a T Mobile Recomonded tab in the Android market is coming from the Google Server I think it's Tmobile controlling it's phones like when they took the Tether app off the US market and how the Droids market is different than others.
Flashed the newest CM today and it didn't fix the market icon, still have the 1.6 one. It's not a big issue but I just find it weird that the icon got reverted back (if it's just server side changes the icon shouldn't be affected).
I noticed the same thing. I had the default Market, a few days later I noticed it had a T-Mobile button then all of the sudden it appears to be back to the default.
I just simply gave up and said whatever anymore.
verizon already has the new market with VERIZON were our downloads are.
I also have the updated market in a nandroid from cyans rom.

Questions coming from the AT&T S2

I wanted the Note to begin with but went with the S2. I'm in the process of selling my S2 now on CL. I have a few questions first:
1. How's the GPS?
2. ANy issues with AT&T(i assume I can just pop my AT&T SIM in and be good to go).
3. Do market apps work fine with the Notes big screen or do they look crappy because they weren't meant for a large screen?
4. How's every one generally liking the phone? How is it to make calls on (holding up to ones face not via BT).
Info is needed:
I'm on a unlimited 4G plan with AT&T (already using the S2 now) <-----not sure if this matters
Anything else would be excellent. Thanks again guys. Looking to get this then throw a ROM on for speed, remove bloat, tethering (should already be unlocked since not a carrier version) and cleanness.
I have found that it works EXACTLY like the GSII. The screen has one more row for shortcuts.
You'll not notice any difference, other than the enormous size difference. I have huge hands, so the size doesn't matter to me. It's actually quite comfortable.
I just hope some better cases come out for it. There is nothing but crap available now.
Thank you for your thoughts on the device. I'm looking to get one ASAP. Espically since that and the S2 will get ICS in Q1 2012. I know the international versions will get it much quicker then the carrier (AT&T, etc) locked down versions.
GPS is best on the market, literally. its using a new setup that allows for access to many more satellites and locks on better than most dedicated GPS units.
apps are hit and miss. some scale fully, some dont scale at all. theres an app to resize apps though.
i dont use BT when i make calls. its a good sized phone. only downside is that there is a fair bit of leakage out of the earpiece, ie. people around you can often hear both sides of the conversation.

Facebook and TapaTalk both work great. No issues whatsoever. I have not seen any rendering issues at all. There have been a few apps that won't download because they say they don't work on a tablet. The phone shows up as a tablet in the Android Market.

GPS is Fantastic! Better than the SGSII. ( I had SGSII for 3 weeks and also have a skyrocket) I routinely get a lock INSIDE my house!
You can pop your ATT SIM in but you must configure the APN for Data and MMS.
I have downloaded about 20 (not finished yet) apps to my GNote and they all look fine!
I have only made calls with bluetooth. I have not held to my ear yet except at home. It seems a bit large to do that. My skyrocket is crap with bluetooth but the GNote has been great with my car.
I do not like swipe or the samsung keyboard. Had to download the gingerbread keyboard. I have used several but keep coming back to that one.
Typing is 1000 time easier and better. For the life of me I could not type accurately type on the SGSII...
The screen resolution will blow you away! Watch that video that comes on it! WOW! There is no bloat as with ATT.
I do not know if ATT can detect the tether or not? When I log on to my ATT account it does not show the phone I am using. Does anyone know for sure?

1. The GPS is fantastic! It literally outperforms anything else I have ever used, including dedicated stand-alone GPS units.
2. There was initially an issue with AT&T where a particular range of Note IMEI's were being erroneously detected as a tablet device on the system. This issue seems to have been resolved. Even then, not every Note is/was affected anyway. The only other thing I can recommend (apart from configuring the correct APN's, which you can find throughout this forum) is to disable Fast Dormancy. Enter *#*#9900#*#* from your dialer and disable that feature from the menu that pops up. Basically it's a feature that AT&T doesn't use, and disabling it on your Note will vastly improve data speed and reliability.
3. So far I haven't had any issues with apps. Everything I've used looks fine so far.
4. Generally I'm loving the Note. There are a couple of minor (for me anyway) niggles. Mainly, it definitely is a big laggier than the SGS2, but not to the point where it's a deal breaker for me. The lag can mostly be attributed to software for now, but I expect these issues will mostly be solved when ICS is released for it. In the mean time, using SPB Shell 3D in tablet mode instead of TouchWiz has worked wonders. The side button on the s-pen is a little difficult to find just by feeling around for it, but that can be alleviated by etching a # pattern with a razor blade onto the button, giving it just a little more texture. As for actual call quality, honestly it's the clearest and best sounding call quality I have ever heard on a phone, period. Even better than most wired phones I've used!

Well, considering that our unlocked devices are free of any AT&T bloatware or other intrusiveware that would otherwise report the specific use of our own equipment, I'm willing to bet that the only way AT&T would be able to detect that we're tethering is to perform deep packet inspection in order to determine the kind of traffic going through the device. I have tethered with both my old unlocked SGS2 and now my Note using only the stock Android tethering ability with no issues. However, I would recommend that you tether only when absolutely necessary and not abuse it, lest you risk being spotted by the Evil Eye of Sauron. Basically, as long as you don't draw unnecessary attention to yourself, you should be fine.

2014 Bypass At&t's Throttling

After searching all morning chasing my tail, I figured I would come here and ask you guys.
Is there a way to bypass atts throttling on my rooted N3 running jb4.3 ???
You can change your data plan and they will stop throttling you then. They may change it for you if you tether without a tethering plan.
The throttle control is handled thru the network. Once you hit a high amount of data, they slow down your service. There's nothing we can do on our end.
Throttle
You used to be able to bypass it with APNs like AT&T medianet (this worked great, but newer phones won't connect to it I believe) and doing a switch from gsm/E and then back to LTE/GSM in the service menu (This was only temporary and had to be done everytime you rebooted the phone or every few hours). But it might not work anymore. There is a thread about it somewhere in the Galaxy S4 section I believe. You can see.

Yes sir, love my Hawks, and Bellator over the weekend as well as youtube music videos and the news.
I finally after all these years, get a good phone with 4glte speeds, and now att wont let me use it unless im at home connected to wifi !!!!
Surely someone on these forums has figured out a workaround?
As stated before, throttling happens on their side. We have no control. Any attempts to control throttling on the network side to increase speeds would be illegal because it would require unauthorized access to their stuff.
Sent from my SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
with my old s2 decompiling the services.jar led me to find some throttle.smali files and after i deleted them the network never even registered that i was using data just had full speed all the time tethering or not. sadly there is nothing like that on the note 3 but if i recall correctly there is a file in the etc folder that did mention throttle and was just text saying yes or no..
As stated, this is network side. No one here can control the carrier end of the network.
Also, there are several of these threads floating around, there's no need for multiple duplicates, if you don't like the answers given via search and experienced members, I don't know what to tell you.
Thread closed and will be cleaned.

Stock S4Active - Loses Network Until Airplane On/Off

Hey folks,
I've got a stock, unrooted Galaxy S4 Active. Recently I've been having a lot of trouble with it...
Long and short of it is, at some random, arbitrary point, it will lose all service - internet, calling, GPS, and text messaging - until I turn airplane mode on and off again. Then it immediately begins to work again, only to lose all service at some random point again. It could work fine for up to two days, or it could work for 20 minutes or so. I'm baffled.
Worth considering:
It never seems to "lose service" while actively being used, though that could simply be luck.
Sometimes GPS works, sometimes it doesn't.
It never "turns back on" on it its own - ever. Only a hard reset or an airplane mode toggle will fix it.
It doesn't SAY that it's out of service - for all intents and purposes, it looks like it's working fine. It's only when you try to USE one of the services and they don't work that you notice something's up. For this reason, I couldn't use Tasker to automatically airplane on/off based on network availability.
While it isn't working, calls to it go straight to voicemail.
After an airplane mode toggle, I immediately receive all missed texts and missed call notifications.
What I've tried:
Upgrading versions OTA via AT&T.
Downgrading versions via AT&T's files, via USB.
Factory reset.
Changing the APN (though I MAY have done this wrong/not changed it correctly, and after it didn't work any better, I removed the added APN).
If anyone can help, I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks!
Put the APN settings below to check and see

Mine does the same thing as the OP. It's really really really pissing me off. Not only can you not tell till you try to do something you don't know you're missing calls and txts till you reboot. Mine is also stock running 4.4.2 OTA. Getting close to saying screw it and getting a gs5. OP, did you ever find a solution? Rebooting 15 times a day and not getting calls is getting really old.
My s4 active does the same. ..... as well as my s3. I'm wondering if it is network related. I also have a Samsung ativ s Windows 8 phone that does that as well.

Yup, getting the exact same issue on 4.4.2 OTA but rooted so no bloatware and running the google now launcher. Fix would be great.
Same thing happens to me constantly in my house, I believe it has to do with low signal on LTE and it switching it HSPA.
Yah, still happening. Anyone find a solution?
I find thay if I can connect to wifi shortly, network is back... also switching airplane mode momentarily works as well. Faster than a reboot.

I too was having this problem... and I suspected it was one of the xposed modules doing it. Once I disabled all of the modules, I've had no more problems.
But since some of you are saying this is happening even on your stock/non-rooted phones I don't know what to think.

And I'm pretty sure I didn't enable Kit & Xposed at the same time, and don't recall which one was enabled when I disabled 'em all.
I might try reenabling them all minus the two Wanam* modules and see how it behaves. As pointed out, though, sometimes it's hard to know when it's acting funny! :-/
So far so good... over 24 hours and I haven't had to cycle airplane mode. I've had these modules enabled:

Maybe I'll be bold tomorrow and enable Wanam Kit tomorrow and see how things go from there.
Well, the problems have persisted but ATT just released an OTA update that says it fixes connectivity issues with calls and texts. I'm really excited now. Almost done with the update and looking forward to a phone that actually works!

WiFi calling (UK)

Just read that Three is discontinuing it's WiFi calling app as most phones have this as standard now. I have no reception in my flat so this has been a lifesaver. I have figured out how to activate the volte and WiFi calling toggles but only the volte seems to work (I get an icon when on 4g). Has anyone been able to get this to work on any UK network?

Adding the Toggles to Settings is the easy bit. It doesn't mean a thing as far as getting the functions working though. The ROM, and specifically the telephony parts of it, need to have all the necessary code added. We know that 3 can add the bits needed on phones where they have control over the software updates. Otherwise it's down to the Manufacturer/ROM.
You never know, OOS Pie might have this working natively. You could ask in the Community Beta thread to see if anyone there has any idea. Or wait a while longer until OOS Pie is in Stable channel. (I assume you don't want to try the Community Beta?)

I'm not surprised. I doubt it's high on their list of priorities. Especially as a lot of this stuff is carrier specific. They probably expect the carriers themselves to add the necessary modifications before the units get into the hands of customers, which is what happens most of the time. Except, Oneplus phones are usually bought off contract as nobody here offers them with contracts.

Haven't gotten around rooting and installing it. I have volte in most of the flat so the phone kinds works at home.
Fair enough, thanks for the reply. If I end up getting it working I'll report back
Tried to figure out how to instal lineage on my phone but I got stranded after installing ADB on my laptop. My problem is that most of the guides assumes that you know what you are doing in minute detail and therefore leave out quite a lot of steps. It also seems like you will lose all your data which means you need to back it up and to back it up you need to root the device which whips the data... Installing twrp seems also to wipe your data which is a bummer as you need that to do the backup of your phone.
As you can see I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't
Tried today to install lineage and I cannot say I'm impressed with the various guides I found. The lineage os wiki page omitted various steps such as which entry you needed to edit in the environment variables. There are several to choose from. Nor did it not mention that you need to enable unlocking the bootloader. Had to Google that to figure out how to get around that error
Installing twrp didn't work as it didn't recognise the file. Tried three different workarounds that didn't work. (File extension, dropping the twrp image onto the command window after typing the fastboot flash recovery line and moving the image to the desktop and the ADB folder.
Why do the people who write these guides assume you have extensive knowledge of installing ROMs instead of including all necessary steps. Needless to say, I failed to install lineage.
Rant over.

Fair enough, thanks for the reply. If I end up getting it working I'll report back
