Hi all. I am considering a Note 4 to replace a One Plus One. I've enjoyed using the Blisspop ROM on my OPO and after a quick research around the Note 4 I am getting the impression different telcos have different versions, I think the AT&T version has no root?
Would T-Mobile version be the best one to use for custom ROMs?
TIA!
Indeed it is.
Yes.
Don't forget some ROMs include WiFi-Calling (if on T-Mobile).
Is there a model or serial number I should look for if getting a used phone? I am noticing N910F European version on Amazon. As long as it's a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor it should be fine?? Thank you.

Wi-Fi calling is used to make calls over Wi-Fi rather than a cellular network. It's very convenient for people who live in areas with poor service.
The T-mobile note 4 is the best option for Custom roms
The T-mobile Note 4's model number is N910T. You should also consider buying the version of the phone that matches your carriers model for best service possible.

One more question, coming from Blisspop on OPO, can someone recommend me a custom ROM for Note 4?
Thank you, it's another learning curve with Samsung.
Well, it sounds like since you were on blisspop; echoepop is probably the closest.
You have to go to the echoe website, however and I can't post the link.

Am going to buy an s6. If you guys think custom roms will really expand the edges' capabilities I will go with that. But if you guys honestly don't think there is much use for it, or hacking it will be easy/intuitive then I'll just opt for regular s6. Any input/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I would assume the toughest part of any of that will actually be getting root, etc on the Verizon version.
All phones are tough to get root on. You know they'll do it.

Is the note 4 still not rooted? Sorry, I made a HUGE mistake switching from a s4 to a ip6. Now I'm looking to switch back. I got the iphone 6 because my s4 had loki , but then my insurance replacement did not have that exploit available. So to say the least I am not up to speed on roots but I didn't know there were still phones out that in the wild unrooted.

I don't believe it has root...I checked the bounty thread and it looked pretty active still. I'm jumping from the M8 so I'm not 100% sure on Samsung devices but I'm fairly certain they're really locked down on Verizon. I guess I'm just trying to not get my hopes up in case it doesn't happen with the VZW S6 but I've definitely got my fingers crossed!

I would love root, don't get me wrong. I'm just not getting my hopes up because of the history with Samsung and Verizon. Let's keep our fingers crossed and if need be, get a bounty thread going once we start getting devices (if the current root method doesn't work with VZW).
I don't know if it will have root... The Note 3 lost root ever since updated to 4.4.4 with a new exploid Verizon did with kernel + bootloader and it hasnt been able to root.. I figure same would be for Note 4 on Verizon... S6 or S6E would be the same or worst... Plus I don't know if there will be any development support since this S6/S6E have Samsung's Exynos processor (Not open source).

The current method to root the s6 involves cf root which requires an unlocked bootloader... meaning chances that it will work in Verizon/AT&T is little to none. Let's hope that an exploit is found that will allow root

Yeah I think those are for the dev editions.
But if we can get root some how.
All we need is root I think if I'm not mistaken hsbadr as a similar work around to safestrap and MORE I think it was mentioned in one of his Jasmine threads if forgot will post link when I find it.
If we don't get root, and the devs around here don't find a way to expand on the limited Edge functions, then the Edge is a total gimmick. The Edge does not have separate screens for the edges like the Note. The S6 edge just has curved glass/screen. You can only use 1 edge at a time (you select left or right) - which is absurd for a dual edged phone. And you can only do about 4 basic things with it most Launchers have been able to do for years. So I pray it gets expanded on as right now... a clock, a news feed, basic notifications, 5 people/contacts, and ring colors for those 5 people/contacts is hardly that cool. For example, people/contact on 1 edge and say an app launcher on the other edge.

Probably stock.
Stock, rooted, heavily debloated. Runs beautifully for me and has been consistent in the 7 8 months I've had the tablet. Blisspop is a excellent AOSP ROM. If you are going that route I'd definitely recommend it. You also have lollipop now, haven't had a chance to see how it performs with TW. I'm still waiting on it for mine

Yea I read post to fast. Was on my way out. Was referring to the WiFi 8.4 in my post not realizing he was talking about LTE version. I still can't get LTE on skyhigh kernel or else I'd probably be running it too. 807 model is such a small group of people no one develops for it. Hopefully this month the LTE versions both get lollipop. Would be nice.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T707A using XDA Free mobile app
The locked bootloader on the T707 makes rooting almost impossible. However, there have been some promising developments in the last week from Team Keen, who may have found an exploitable vulnerability in the linux kernel. There are active teams working on rooting the Galaxy S6 Duos (SM-G9200) and the Galaxy Note 4 (ATT and Verizon). So I'm cautiously optimistic that if those devices can be rooted then those exploits can be ported over to the T707.

Got it installed OTA (had to manually pull it) last night on my Tab S 10.6 Wi-Fi T800 USA. Initial impressions are that it's definitely faster & smoother. Camera seems a touch faster to launch and focus but maybe it's just the placebo effect. Too early to tell on battery life yet. I sure wish they had tweaked the ROM a bit more and dumped the Hancom Office apps and replaced them with MS Office like on the Tab S2. Oh well. I can live without the major cosmetic changes too. I definitely feel like performance is finally back to where it was when this thing ran 4.4.4. It took absolutely forever but I am glad to see Samsung finally serving us a decent 6.0.1 build to put this fine tablet out to pasture in style.
Now, how about a Tab S3 10.5 refresh with Type-C, Samsung!?
Thanks Samsung by hearing us! We love you!

Finally after months and months waiting after Marshmallow update, it's good to get it ready installed. Additionally, besides the good results testing it last day, I'd like to add that the security update is dated August, 2016, that it's good after all the issues in all Android devices due the backdoors identified and all the Trojan risks. No themes available (like at S6/S7 marshmallow versions), but more reliable and long lasting operation due the battery management. Really, really thanks Samsung! For me, Tab S still will be rocking for a while, I don't like the screen format copied from Apple in S2, I'd like the Tab S screen size 16:9 instead 4:3...no compliance, right now just compliments for you Samsung!!! I'll continue being a real fan and loyal customer for really good things, and technologically speaking, Samsung always does the best (they accepted immediately replace all Note 7 devices once they validated the battery issue, only biggest brands accepts and fix their mistakes immediately).. we're human beings!!

Yes I used Odin to flash it over the New Zealand version. I didn't notice any differences yet but I haven't really spent much time checking it out. I really wanted to do a factory reset before flashing but It takes me days to reinstall and reconfigure everything and I'm too lazy to go through that again.

he didnt tell me the bold red part but the rest and thats because AT&T and SAMSUNG are crazy locking bootloaders. AT&Ts bad in general but stuck on business plan so just switching away from samsung and only buying unlocked phones direct from carrier is best bet if you want root perm and recovery. thats what im doing done personally giving my money to AT&T.

I caved, and was sick and tired of problems. I had 4 S7Es, 2 Nexus, and 2 S5s, my boyfriend's on his 2nd LG, my friend's S7E has extremely bad screen burn. My daughter has never had an issue with her iPhone. I went out and bought one. If I can't have root, I might as well have an Apple. At least the battery isn't dead by lunch.

That's what I most likely will do as well. Sucks that rooting is pretty much dead. I pretty much only want root for hotspot.

Busy go over to the U firmware. That's why I did. No hotspot restrictions.

And my iphone came with it out of the box! Use it daily to play my game on my nexus 7 when there's no wifi available.

Does your AT&T plan include tethering? Because I'm pretty sure the iPhone checks to make sure you are allowed before turning it on as well.
That said, I'm also bummed about the root situation, but for other reasons. I did find a pretty good firewall in NetGuard, and (ironically) the Package Disabler app that only works on Samsung devices was able to disable most of the bloat. Only the ability to backup and restore individual apps (or even just their data) is missing, and why I still wish I had root.
(yes, I know I can use ADB for some backups, but I'm not sure downgrades are possible that way)
Hi,
I wll be purchasing a new phone soon and am looking for a phone that has a great chance to be rooted/able and compatable with the Verizon network.
Can an unlocked Note 8 (SM-N950U1) be used on Verizon's network?
Thanks for your input?
Yes it can. I'm using the unlocked version on the Verizon network right now.

+1, no issues.
But, no HD calling or wi-fi calling?
I am using one as well. But none of the features/services are working. I can't get any VZW apps, like visual Vmail. I don't even get vmail notifications. No HD voice or video. No NFL app live video. Nothing HAS works except voice & data.
I have been on with VZW everyday. They can't figure the s**t out. They blame Sammy and Sammy blames them. Very frustrating!!!!
Yes I got the unlocked one and I have hd calling and the phone provisioned I'm on Verizon
I clicked on self provision and restarted phone everything works
Even gave me a toggle after

No and yes, in that order.
You'll have the model with the Snapdragon SoC and that has a locked bootloader. You might one day get root (if you're lucky) but you'll probably never get TWRP compatibility or any custom ROMs.
But on the bright side, it will work on the Verizon network, so that's nice.
How did you self provision?

i am trying to use it on verizion, where is self provision? from which menu? search on settings , unable to locate it.
It can be found by searching in Shortcut Master (light) app. I can still find it, but cannot run as from BL version 3 (not sure if it was that one) many shortcuts no longer work (including all IMS-related shortcuts).
I have N950U1 on FW version N950U1UEU5CRJ2.
