AA cutting off first syllable of SMS messages - Android Auto General

I've submitted feedback to google containing this information, but I'm curious how many others (if any) experience the problem:
When using android auto on a nexus 6, using either 5.1.0 or 5.1.1 firmware (almost completely stock google image) and a pioneer avic 8100NEX head unit (this phone/HU pair is my only combination), I'm noticing that the first syllable of SMS text messages are often not read out loud.
For example, if my wife sends me a message with only the word "okay", AA reads it as "kay."
It's more of an issue when the text message contains either the single word "yes" (or "no".) In those cases, when AA reads the message, it sounds like an empty message. As a result, I still need to grab the phone and look at the screen to read that single word message.
Take care
Gary

I have a Nexus 6, 5.1.1 and and 8100nex. Not surprisingly, I have the same problem.
Until the last update to AA, it usually wouldn't understand my "yes" confirmation that I wanted to send a text message. So I'd say my message, it understood my message perfectly, but then I couldn't send it because it didn't understand "yes". I think that's been fixed in the last update.

Contact names not being shown correctly on incoming SMSes

Interesting problem this, it seems to have just started to happen out of the blue a few days ago.
The problem, in a nutshell, is that whatever I try to do, be it recreate the entries in the Address Book, create a duplicate entry with the same name, use the O2 Plus feature which lets you save a contact to your address book and make a new entry like that... Whatever I do, whenever I receive a new text message, the person's name isn't shown as the sender, just their mobile number in international format.
Even if I have that contact in my phone already, with their number in the same format as is shown on the text message (+447...), their name doesn't show at all. It's really starting to annoy me, as I've not added or removed anything to my XDA and yet this problem isn't going away.
Argh! Anybody have any ideas as to what's wrong? I might ring O2's oddly-named Data Support and quiz them about this tomorrow, too...
Cheers again everyone,
Christopher
When you search the forum for "CallerID" you'll find a few people asking about the same problem, mainly when receiving calls however not SMS' and some suggestions.
Do you have photos attached to your contacts? I'd try reinstalling the CallerID_Alpine_... from your Extended_Rom, if all fails it might be easiest to restore a backup (if you got one that is).
hth,
Max
I did some further testing today, borrowed a mate's phone and rang mine... Bizarre, the first time my phone was rung, it would take approx. 30 seconds for the name of the caller to show, the number showed up fine though. Subsequent dials would result in the name showing up almost instantly (as usual)...
.... Veeeeeeery odd. I'll just dash off and try reinstalling this CallerID cab...

[Q] remove message logging?

Has anyone yet figured out a way to not have the Captivate log every single text and call you make?
It is so annoying to have to hunt all through my phone looking for tracks. Originally I assumed that they could be erased by deleting the thread in messaging. Wrong!
So then go to the contact/history and delete it there. Wrong! There is nothing in the history tab.
So then open the dialer, go to call log and look, every sent and recieved text, mms, and call is logged there as well. Its like a paranoid secret agent designed this system.
And heaven forbid that you installed a second messaging program such as Handcent to log everything all over again.
I currently use Horizon to keep my private texts private, but even that allows the outgoing texts to be logged.
Yes, deleting the thread, then selecting every individual item in the log from the unwanted caller works. Or even deleting the entire call log at once will work. But short of that has anyone come up with a work around for the call logging intrusion?
Found "Not log this call" on the market to auto delete phone calls log (Not free).
For sms you can edit the text message limit and reduce it to 1. This will at least keep 1 text message in store before it gets deleted. But default it's set to 200 msg per conversation and 20 mms per conversation.
Interesting. I looked at that app, I may have to try it.
Did you actually get your message inbox to go to 1? Mine will only go down to 10.
I am currently testing it to see if it erases the call log history as it erases the inbox but I dont think it does.
Ok, so setting the message limit to 10 only deletes the messages, not the logs.
However, while playing with it I found out that by selecting one of the logged entries (text or call) it pulls up a history type page. From there you can select the bottom left soft key, choose delete and then choose select all. I am not sure but I think it only deletes one page at a time or something as it seems to leave a few behind. I am still playing but its a hell of a lot better that trying to select each individual log in the main log screen. Its sort of what you would expect the history tab in the contact screen to do. (especially if you came from WinMo )
I hope someone else finds this helpful. I did a lot of searching and found a lot of complaints about this awful "feature" but no answers. This isnt much of an answer but its seems a bit more tolerable since I figured the history part out.
It also seems to be something Samsung adds as Evo and the Droid don't do it.
Check out HistoryEraser. I think I saw it on Lifehacker a few days ago, supposed to wipe away all your unwanted tracks.

[Q] Text message notification stuck/keeps returning

I apologize if this has been asked/resolved before, but I searched the forums and google quite a bit to no avail. I have found other instances of people with this issue but have not found a resolution yet.
Every time I receive a single text message, I get a notification on the unlock screen that says I have 2 texts. When I unlock the phone and pull down the notification area, it lists the 2 texts. One of the texts is the actual text i just received and I can access it just fine. The other text listed is a text from weeks ago that has long been deleted, including the entire thread it was in. This ghost text will not go away.
I can clear the notifications and it goes away, but as soon as I receive another text from anyone, it pops up there again. I have tried some other solutions that popped up on google. These were to download the SMS Cleaner app and search by keyword. Upon doing this, the app does not find any texts with the keywords from the ghost text.
I have also tried replying to the text to create a new thread and maybe try to delete it again, but even when the new thread is created/deleted the ghost text comes back.
I also turned off/on text notifications several times also combined with power cycling the phone, which did not solve this either.
Note: This text was from a room alert system in our server room at work. It sends email alerts that we then have converted to text message and sent to our phones.
Not sure if it being an email has anything to do with it, but I have received these alerts several times before without any of them getting stuck.
My phone is still on 2.1 and was rooted using Unleash the Beast.
Anyone have the same problem, or any ideas? Is there a folder that holds texts somewhere in the root file system that I can clean out?
Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give as much detail about the problem as possible, this has been annoying me for weeks.
Try deleting the email alert? Just spitballing...
This happened to me last night!
I keep getting the same Ghost Txt message
The only way i can think to get rid of it would be a Data Reset.
But i dont wanna erase my whole phone cuz of a software issue that may happen again!
Have u fixed it?
No, still no luck on this. Anyone have any ideas?
I had a problem similar to this with the dumb phone that i had before my Captivate. I called AT&T customer support because I didn't want to reset my phone and they got it resolved. Apparently there was a message stuck in their server marked as unread, but since it had been read on my phone it said 0 new messages. This might work for you, too?
Solved
Open the spot where notifications are read the phone number and send a text to it, it will open the message thread and you can delete it there

save multiple SMS drafts for the same recipient

Hi,
There's something I'd like to do on my samsung galaxy note that I was able to do on my Symbian-based device in the past, but I can't figure out how to do it under Android.
I'd like to save multiple SMS drafts per recipient. However, my Galaxy note only seems to permit me to save one SMS draft per recipient, with each subsequent draft overwriting the previous draft for that same recipient.
Here's why I'd like to have this capability:
If I want to type a long SMS to someone (more than 160 characters), what I like to do is split the message at logical places such as after commas, sentence endings, etc. I would do this by getting close to the end of a given SMS message and then stopping it at the point that I choose, saving it as a draft, and then continuing my text in a new SMS starting at the beginning of the next sentence, phrase, etc. Then, once the set of drafts is completed, I will first proofread and make corrections in the entire group of drafts, and only then will I manually send them off, one after the other.
Yes, I know I can type a long message and the SMS app will automatically split it into pieces after 160 characters, but that often splits words or breaks sentences and phrases in places that I don't want them broken.
Here's how I try to accomplish this on my G1:
Invoke the Messaging app.
Select New Message.
Select recipient.
Compose first SMS.
Select the Back key (draft 1 gets saved).
Select New Message.
Select same recipient as before.
Compose second SMS.
Select the Back key (draft 2 gets saved).
However, at this point, draft 1 has been overwritten by draft 2. In other words, only draft 2 remains.
Can anyone think of a way for me to accomplish what I want (or at least something similar) on my samsung galaxy note?
Thanks in advance.

Removing a Dialogue

Ever since I updated my phone to the latest software I've been getting this dialogue box. I understand why it is there but the way I set up my sms, it becomes somewhat of a nuisance. Essentially I'm using Hover Chat to handle 'on the fly' pop up txt. And for longer texts I would use the default texting app (since the text field is larger). It was a system that worked fine before the update, but now with that dialogue box, it has become annoying.
I'm basically asking, how can I remove this box. I know there's a way to edit the code to do so. I just need some direction. (I will assume responsibly if I ruin my phone )
I don't think I understand. You can only send SMS from the default app, so how else are you expecting to use two different apps without the pop-up?
I can send sms with both the non-default sms and default sms apps. Even after the update I could do that. What's different is the dialogue box. It wasn't there before the latest update. Sorry for not being clear. I just wanted to give a little background. At the end of the day, I just want to know how to stop the dialogue box from popping up
