Hi everyone,
I bought a used Moto X some while ago but the problem with it is that it's auto focus doesn't work.
It'll shoot fine pictures if the object is very near to it but the camera cannot focus on objects far away. Rather, it won't even try to focus. The focal length remains the same. I don't have any plastic cover on the lens.
Is it a problem of the hardware or maybe of the software? Any solutions?

Its likely a hardware issue.
You can try different camera apps, erasing cache (from Recovery), factory reset, or reflashing your current rom.

My HTC One camera is horrible but I think I have nailed down the problem.
The left side is always perfectly sharp. From center to the right side it is out of focus mush.
I am guessing that it's a misaligned sensor.
I am a widely published photographer and I certainly didn't buy this to use as a camera for anything other than record pictures for my normal job but I do know what I am doing.
I ill take it in and test it against a store phone and have them swap it out if the store one is better.
If I had the sharpness across the frame that I have on the left side I would be thrilled with it.
Anyone else seeing the right side of frame quality issue?
I am having no issues with my camera, I love it, the ZOE option is very versatile. No sharpness issues at all, in fact the auto focus works much better then my lte

I am not seeing this issue. This definitely sounds like a hardware problem. I think HTC has been plagued by quality issues, unfortunately.

The thing is that it did this to me but i am trying to reproduce it and i can't!
How am i supposed to get a replacement?
Did it do it for you al the time and under any conditions?
Well with mine it was every single picture, and tapping to try to get it to focus somewhere on the blurry side didn't make a difference.

Hello,
Sorry for that. I've put asterisks indeed.
Anyway apologizes to all.
I would like to repost my question without any swearing.
I am experiencing an unfocusing camera problem on the right side. Is this the same issue you are talking about?

I sent my phone off for repair to three UK. My old phone had a few issues but one of them was with the camera. The focus was off. Mostly it was blurry at any distance further than about 6ft and it also wouldn't focus properly on the left hand side of the picture.
Anyway, they sent me a replacement phone (more than likely a refurb) after deciding they couldn't repair my old one but this one also seems have a problem.
Am I going crazy or is the focus off on the left side of these pictures?

Is it anything I could be doing that's causing this issue?
Surely the chances of me having 2 phones with almost the exactly same issue is extremely low??
It's completely stock at the mo (1.28fw) but I had the 2.17fw on my old phone with ARHD 11.0 and it didn't make any difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone?
I'm not going crazy though am I? There is definitely an issue?
what happens when you manually tap to focus on the left side?
I thought tapping on the screen just altered the exposure and the camera auto focused?
Either way, the same thing happens.
no it does focus + metering
if its blurry no matter what type of shots you take. then it must be faulty
Damn. Back to three then. Thanks.
It's ,,common, on the silver version... I I had the same problem everything was blurry but on the right side of the picture.. I've got a replacement now it's good no problem with it ... Some pictures from my old phone faulty one

I have updated my xperia z to 4.2.2 last night! Actually got it yesterday the thing is that when using the front facing camera there's an option called "Soft skin effect", wich to my taste, only blurs the details on skin, making it unrealistic. The problem is that when turning it off, I notice it's still active! D: There's literally no difference! But when using front camera on 3rd party apps, front camera works as it should, no soft skin effect. Does anoyone else have this issue ? Is there any chance to fix it ? Any help would be highly appreciated
Btw my Z is the c6602 model hspa+, in case it makes any difference.

Well I do not have the C6602 I have the C6603 and I just tested it and I do not have the issue. But it could be that in case u flashed or upgraded directly without whipping ur phone first that the update actually kinda got corrupted and u might need to reset ur phone back to factory settings. It seem that quite some ppl had to reset there phone after updating it because it was doing weird things.

Today I did what you said, downloaded an ftf (First time I updated via ota) and fully flashed, but the issue is still there :/
Totally wiped phone, even the internal memory, and I don't use external sd card . . what can i do ? didn't check if the issue was there on 4.1.2 cause as soon as I got the phone the 4.2.2 ota arrived! any help?
I don't know. First of I don't see a difference when turning on soft skin and it might be really an xperia z 6602 issue. Like I said I have he 6603 and don't seem to have that issue? Maybe ur camera has a dirty lense or what r ur settings?

I have looked and looked on this forum for a potential solution to this problem but to no avail, The only thing i found was for the Atrix 4G so i thought i would start my own thread.
The problem is my Atrix HD MB886 rear camera will not initilize, whenever i click on on the camera app, it stays black for a little while the says Camera failed to initialize.
I was a little curios so i have installed a L.E.D app and a ''Mirror'' app on the phone, the L.E.D works just fine and my front facing camera works just fine, however the rear one still has this problem, i bought the phone second hand from ebay and it had this problem, when i first got the phone it was not rooted, bootloader locks stock ROM etc, i have since rooted the phone, unlocked the bootloader and currently running AOSB 4.4 Kitkat custom ROM.
If anyone can shed some light on this situation or try to help that would be great....
Many thanks!

Have you done a full wipe or format of everything, manually fastbooted back to stock (not using RSD; doesn't matter what stock), and tried it then? If yes, then you might be crap outta luck and have a bad camera module. If it makes you feel any better, my headphone jack went out about a week after I unlocked my bootloader.....but that's what a Defy is for .
You're not misssing that much, the camera quality ranges from medicore to suck....maybe good with perfect lighting and nothing moving all that much....it does the job, but barley good enough.
Yeah I have done all that, when I bought the phone it was completely as if you had bought it direct from a store brand new no modifications etc, since then I have done the formats and wipes etc etc, what I'm now wondering is how easy it would be to change the camera module, is it soldered at all? Or just unclick the ribbons and swap it out, the main reason for the camera is I just moved to the USA and like to take pictures to send back to my family in England, it would be great if I could get this working some how

Not to worry too much however I have installed camera MX and that allows me to take photographs from my front camera quality ain't a big issue it would be nice to get the rear camera working though

Never paid attention to the camera when looking at teardowns. IIRC, it can be done, just might be a pita.
Hi guys,
Just had my phone 'repaired' by a phone shop, but camera only wants to focus nearby, not at a distance. Does anyone know why? Is there anything I can do?
Already tried reflashing roms, didn't change anything.
They changed the camera unit
I'm running android 4.4.2 sense 6
Front camera is fine.
