[Q] Best way to factory reset - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I've sideloaded the past few version of 5.0+ on my phone and just have poor battery life. I want to do what I can to give my device a fresh start/new life.
I've just done a factory reset from the device. Is there anything else I can/should do?
Should I have deselected Google backup and restore?
Any tips would be great before I start setting up my device all over again.
Thanks,
Ryan

knowyourcell.com/samsung/samsunggalaxys/galaxy-s-guides/498616/how_to_hard_reset_the_samsung_galaxy_s.html
Don't know it that works
tried the hardware method didn't work.
u can do factory reset by settings->privacy.
Or you can try *2767*3855#
I'm also wondering how to factory reset!! (yes I know it's in Privacy) but it keeps telling me cannot reset because clear service is not available

did you get any solution for this?
my i9000 says the same "clear service is not available" - none of the suggested solutions works for me.
the reset option in privacy worked for me. my firmware is jf2, by the way, if that matters..
Try this
Shut your Android Galaxy S down (Power off) or remove Battery.
Now press Volume up, Home and Power together.
If the Samsung Symbol is comming up leave the Home Button.
Then there is a boot Menu
Volume Up and Down to Navigate , Home to select the choosen option.
Regards Christopher
thanks man ,you made job easy.
Isn't hard resetting just removing the battery?

no
hard reset, means something like FORMAT the phone, and restore the backup from Factory
If the phone has already been rooted, will the hard reset "unroot" it, so that you need to reapply the rooting procedure?
depends... to my best "guestimate" if you are on stock official ROM, chances are yes, you'll need to unroot again.
if you are using custom ROM, then it'll revert back to the clean state of the custom ROM you installed
i've not yet had the need to hard reboot, i'll find out in the near future
I just did a hard reset because I want to send my unit it for replacement.
How can I tell if the device is still rooted? I want to make sure they don't see any sign of rooting.
Edit:
The post below explains the unrooting procedure:
http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2812085
But, where can I get the "odin3" for my phone which I bought from Optus Australia?
So the factory reset didn't unroot the phone?

Correct. It doesn't. After the wiping of data, it rebooted and presented the option of running the update.zip thingy, which I did not choose. Yet, it is still rooted. I could still see the icon called user permission. I can still install the screen capture program that requires rooting.
If you want to unroot, you probably have to use the procedure in my link above. The problem is I don't know where I can get e Odin3 file for Optus Australia.
My firmware details are as follows:
PDA I9000DTJF3
Phone: I9000DTJF3
CSC:I9000OPSJF1
When we unroot, this Odin3 thingy is to refresh which portion? All three or just one of them?
I just noticed that after hard reset, my music, video, pictures are not erased.
Isn't this strange?
^^ My internal SD card was wiped clean. Shows 13.43 GB total space and 13.43 available space
Will doing a hard reset reinstall all of the ATT features that were removed after rooting?

[Q] Can't store Hard Reset Protection

Hello,
I have two Xperia V's with the exact same stock ROM, apps and settings. Both are rooted with their boot loaders unlocked. Storing Avast Antitheft on one of them works just fine every time, but when I try doing that on the other device, I first get this...
... and then when I hit "Yes", I get this...
(Continued):
Despite doing several hard resets and uninstallations/reinstalltions of Avast, I still couldn't fix the issue. What's going on here?
Thanks in advance,
Shady

[Q] nexus 6 keeps disappearing from android device manager

Hi all. So here's the skinny:
I've got a Verizon nexus 6, unlocked boot loader and rooted running 5.1.
No other mod except for the net tethering provision.
I did a factory reset this morning because my device wasn't showing up on ADM. It shows up in Google play via the website, and I'm able to install apps to it from there.
I have gone through all the basic troubleshooting steps Googling could afford me. After the factory reset, it showed up in ADM. But when I checked again just now, it's gone again. That was one of the primary reasons I did the reset (which was a pain in the butt by the way because I had a pin-at-boot and even after telling the phone to do a factory reset twice, it didn't go away until telling it to in the boot loader menu).
I'm pretty frustrated now, because I went through a lot of hassle to fix it... And with no SD card, titanium backup is out the window too.
Does anybody have a solution or has someone else experienced this?

When unlocking the device, the screen is completely empty (sometimes)

Good evening.
Yesterday I (unfortunately) decided to update to Lollipop, and did a factory reset.
Now, sometimes happens that when I unlock the phone, I can only see the wallpaper and nothing else. I can only reboot the phone, otherwise I can't do anything.
Is there a solution to this? Another factory reset? Something went wrong during the update?
Thanks in advance

[Q]Help me with this particular N910T

Hey folks, first thread ever, I really need help with this troubled N910T, DOK2, Android 5.1.1
Whats wrong with this phone:
The contact app will stop everytime I open it, since contact app is combined into Phone app, so the Phone app will also stop everytime I click on it. However, the situation will be fixed if I change the locale to English. (The phone belongs to a Asian friend)
One of the instant message app, the Wechat, similar to Whatsapp Messager and Facebook Messager, will not receive any kind of notification, at all.
The phone's battery drop from 50% to 1% then turn off itself in minutes.
The last two problems may be unrelated issues to the first one, and that is not the main reason I'm really here. I have ODIN flashed the latest firmware over 10 times and all THREE of the problems still exist after all that.
And whats bothering me is that ODIN flash firmware WILL NOT FACTORY RESET this phone, that doesn't make any sense to me. Please let me know if I make a mistake about that, because every other phone or tablet I have worked on before will always be factory reset after flashing a OEM firmware.
I have also flahed TWRP and wiped everything from the System to the internal storage and reflash the firmware but the problem is still there.
sort of things have been done to the phone may have something to do with the problems:
installed the zips I got from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...pt-touchwiz-bloating-script-222-apps-t3258537
it debloated the phone.
the phone was lost in a rainy day, found again two days later. Remote lock and wipe preformed via Android Device Manager but the wipe process never go through.
Please let me know if the phone is worth saving at all, I have spent days in this phone fixing and researching for solution. I found no similar issue around here, and the phone is out of warranty.
Thank you and please let me know should I throw this thing away.
Battery needs to be replaced. Are you sure you flashed right firmware for 910t not 910t3?

It's a N910T, and the ODIN sucessfully passed everytime but will not factory reset the phone,.
Have you tried going into recovery and factory reset it yourself

Many times already.
If you haven't done so, you may want to do a clean install which means wiping system, data, dalvik and cache at least three times in custom recovery such as TWRP. Then you can try ODIN baseband, bootloader, rom and kernel (if rom doesn't contain one), custom recovery. Next you boot into customer recovery again and do a factory reset and that should do it. Let me know if that helps.
