guys, I bought recently an att sim unlocked x 2013, and when I open the camera and tap the ? it says that I can launch the canera with the double flick gesture. I tried many times, in different ways, with the screen on, off, lockscreen, etc but the gesture is not working. Any help?
The second question is about the simlock, the phone is sim unlocked and I want to know if that sim unlock gets locked again with factory reset, all runing the stock att android. For example it updated over ota from JB to 4.4.4 without problems, but what about if I make a factory reset?
Another question is that the phone is unlocked (sim) via imei. But when I open the root browser, wich I use cause im accustomed to that, I can see all the system folder and app, but I have not rooted or touched anything. I can't delete files but I can navigate trough all the folders.
Thanks in advance.
For Flick to Open Camera feature, you've to enable it in Camera Settings inside the app

I have two Verizon Motorola Droid A855's that I want to turn into iPod Touch alternatives since I already own them. The phones will not have an active phone plan, so no 3G, I'll be using Wi-Fi only. This has worked fine, I am able to setup a Google account, install apps, etc. One is working great, the other is giving me fits. I have several problems with it. At this point both phones are running FRK76 (2.2.3). The one that works right updated itself OTA. The other one was at 2.2 and wouldn't update itself to 2.2.3, so I tried doing it via recovery mode and this is where my adventure started.
PROBLEM #1: Can't enter original recovery mode.
I can get into the original recovery mode normally on one of the phones, the other will not show the menu. I use Power+X buttons, the exclamation point graphic shows up, I press VolumeUp+Camera buttons and nothing happens. Works fine on the other one. I've tried the other key combos that are meant for other Droids just in case, nothing happens. I have verified the buttons work. I've also read that if I SBF back to some original rom (I've tried ESD20, FRG83G and FRK76 that I got from Peter Alfonso's site) that it will restore the original recovery mode. It has not helped. No matter what I've tried so far VolumeUp+Camera will not bring up the original recovery menu. I've been searching, and searching and nothing seems to work.
PROBLEM #2: Is there a way to activate the phone after SBF without having a Verizon phone plan?
I was able to root the phone using SuperOneClick, install Droid 2 Bootstraper, and ROM Manager. I used ROM Manager to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.1 and then pressed Reboot into Recovery in ROM Manager and upon reboot I can get to a recovery menu.
That all being said, I've yet to install a ROM from within recovery that makes the phone work correctly. So, I moved on to doing SBF and ran into other problems. After any SBF install I now get a dark grey triangle in the status bar. I'm pretty sure this means I'm in roaming mode becasue I need to activate the phone using *228 option 1. The problem is that I do not have an active plan for this phone anymore so it won't activate, it asks me to enter the 10 digit phone # of the phone. I tried putting in 123-123-1234 and obviously that doesn't work, it starts to send me to customer service. At this point I just hang up.
PROBLEM #3: SBF'ed phone won't update stock apps.
After I did an SBF on the problem phone and setup a Google account on it, I then used the old Market to install any simple app. Once that is done Market updates itself to Play Store. I enter Play Store and it should show me all a list of the stock apps under the INSTALLED screen plus any available updates to the stock apps, like Facebook, Twitter, Maps, Play Music. Overnight these apps did finally show up under the ALL screen of Play Store, but they just say "Installed" and when I click on one there is no Update button, only open. None of the stock apps show up under INSTALLED. The phone thinks the newest versions of these apps is already installed, but they aren't. I am not sure what to do about this. I would like to be able to update to the newest stock apps (well, most of them). I keep reusing the same Google account on this problem phone, so maybe setting up a new account might work?
This was a long post, it seems around here shorter posts get answered but then people always ask for more info. So, I just gave the info upfront. Hope there is some help or suggestions out there. Thanks!
Problem #2 is a non-issue. You said it will not be active on a line, so there is absolutely no need to do a *228 on the phone. In fact, you will get better battery life if you turn off the cellular radio putting it into airplane mode. Wi-fi will still work if you turn it on after it's in airplane mode.
Hi All,
I am very new to Android flashing. I got my first Android phone at the start of this year and just decided to go ahead with flashing a rooted ROM onto it tonight. Its a SG3 4G model - GT-i9305T
It all seamed to go ok except that I can no longer connect it to Samsung Kies and am therefore unable to access my backup data. I also cannot upgrade the firmware to the latest Android version because it tells me that my phone has been modified.
this is the ROM I used (in the second quote bubble of the first post):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080463
I would really appreciate it if someone has some answers for me because I'm seriously stressing out about this! Hopefully someone can tell me how I can get it to mot show up as modified so I can upgrade the Android version. I'm wondering if maybe the modified tag is preventing me from connecting to Kies...?
Thanks in advance
Dave
You can only have Kies/Ota with official Samsung firmware for your phone not custom .
You cannot mix and match custom and official .
Official or XDA Developers forum your choice .
Suggest you read the basic faqs and guides before flashing anything .

research
I guess I should have done a little more research because I never read anything about how rooting my phone would prevent Kies connectivity and the ability to update Android versions....
I have downloaded a stock ROM now so hopefully if I flash that, it will bring things back to normal, which is all I wanted anyway. I just wanted to get rid of some of the restrictions placed on my phone by the carrier
got a result in the end...
Well after finding out the hard way that a rooted ROM isnt all that I thought it was and having to completely erase everything off my phone to do so, I had a possitive result in the end. (if you can call it positive) I downloaded a stock samsung ROM (which is what i wanted in the first place, however didnt search any further after finding the rooted ROM), flashed it to my phone and now I am back in business, all without the crappy Telstra carrier rubbish they forced upon me.
The problem now is that the ONLY reason I tried any of this was in an attempt to have the option to turn off the shutter sound for the camera. Now when the phone was running the rooted ROM, i had this. Since putting the stock ROM on it, I dont have the option in the camera settings to turn off the shutter sound, nor can I take photos siliently when the phone is in silent mode....WHY????? I have even paid for another camera app (camera zoom FX) which claims to have this function although even with the setting for no shutter sound enabled, I get a shutter sound....
Can someone please help me with this one?? I feel like a wasted a heap of time and effort, not to mention stressing out and having to reinstall everything and re-setup my screens, apps and shortcuts, all for nothing!
Remove the shutter sound from the firmware .
System/ media/ audio/ notifications .
Shutter sound removed probably a feature of the rom you used .
nowhere to be found

I just tried looking in that location but couldn't find it. there was only 1 file in there and it wasn't the shutter sound. i had a hunt around elsewhere but found nothing. (this is all just using the file browser on the phone - "my files")
You need to read the basics .
You require Root and a root file explorer .
So this is my first time rooting/flashing so I'm not a pro at what I'm doing but I wanted to give it a try
Anyway, so I rooted my S3 Mini with Unified Android Toolkit and backed up apps etc. Then installed CyanogenMod on my phone. Everything is okay except for 2 issues.
1) I haven't got any SIM Contacts, were these deleted when I wiped the phone and now I can't do anything about it?
2) I see 'No Service' on my phone when I bring the toolbar down from the top of the screen. See this is weird because I have service and am using the internet, but I don't actually have a registered network. I went to network providers, scanned and tapped my network, but even then, there was no change. I am running a UK S3 Mini on baseband ...XXAMJ2 and Installed Jellybean 4.1.2 (CyanogenMod 10) 20130727 from Maclaw'NovaFusion
When I rooted with the Toolkit, I chose the option [Up to ALL7] if that makes any difference?
Is there any way I can see which network I'm running because I'm confused and was gonna just flash the stock rom and unroot...
Thank you
P.S Also just checked in About Phone and my Network/Service Status comes up there, and my mobile data works, but it still says No Service when I bring the top toolbar down?!

For the SIM contacts: Try to pop in you SIM to an old phone and check if the contacts are still there, if yes good, if no... my condolences.
I strongly recommend to switch to CM11, it's working just fine, with no major bugs or problems. Well, i'm using it and i'm very picky when it comes to bugs and other issues.
The point is, you have to re-flash you phone anyway and along the way, you can update to a better android version.

With switching to CM11... I'm currently on 10 because my S3 was running 4.1.2 originally, if I were to flash the 4.4.2 rom, would it work and be compatible? Sorry if it seems like a basic question, I'm not really that knowledgeable about this
EDIT: Just did this, worked wonders! Thank you!
Root, TWRP 3.0.2-3
Problem appeared on: SLICK-S427-ROW_by_SHENGE 6.0 rom
Problem:
notification icons on home screen top bar are gone
quick settings/notification pull down menu (the one with wifi, flashlight, airplane, etc.) on home screen cannot be accessed (neither by swiping down nor by using a Nova Launcher widget)
On the lock screen they both work. On a 5.0.2 rom (miui7_v6.5.26) they both work as well.
I have tried options, different launchers, TWRP factory reset, TWRP full wipe, TWRP format data and flashed several other top 6.0 roms - nothing helped. Even a full format and installing a 6.0 rom that I know worked before!
Cheers.
Same problem
I have exactly the same problem. Even the alarm wont go off because for some reason the notifications dont work. The problem happened when I tried to put in a second SIM and since then I can't get to fix it.
my solution
I probably should have posted this long ago, but forgot. Anyway, here's my issue:
it's the additional security PIN.
I have tried multiple unofficial ROMs for my phone. Some of them had the option of setting an additional security PIN (10+ characters) for situations like SIM card change (anti-theft measures built into the ROM). The problem is, when you later change the ROM to one without such an option, it will somehow "remember" (I guess the info is stored on a different partition or something) that it should ask for the security PIN upon changing SIM cards, but the current ROM lacks this functionality. This is why the phone acts so weird.
The solution for me was: flash a ROM that had this security PIN anti-theft option, enter it and disable it completely. Then you should be able to flash and enjoy whatever ROM you want.
Hope it helps.
EDIT: this could possibly also be achieved by installing an anti-theft apk that has this functionality, but I have not tried that.
Which ROM
Do you remember which ROM has the feature? Cause I cant seem to find one.
I don't quite remember, but most likely it was one of the AOSP LEMONADE family, a Lollipop.
Thank you very much sir, my problem finally got solved. For future reference, the ROM I used is this one: http://www.needrom.com/download/aosp-lemonade-v3/ although I' m sure many more will have the same anti-theft option.
In this post i explain all that i do with my phone : https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9-plus/help/problem-root-lost-apps-bluetooth-t3705061?nocache=1
After that, i flash the first .zip from this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9-plus/how-to/root-special-p9plus-l29c636-t3681088
When my phone start i tried to put my pin more than 10 times but not work. I do a factory reset... again.
Now, i don't have keyboard, only voice, i lost some huawei's apps, bluetooth not work and i can't enter to the developer options to enable USB debugging, also i can't enter to security settings to allow apps installs from unknown sources.
When i try to click on developer options or security the settings app closes. The rest of settings work.
With my voice i can't log in to my google account so, i can't install apps.
Please, help me.
Tip: don't create multiple posts saying basically the same thing, you can always edit the first one you create. Now, your phone is c02, so it's vodafone branded. You can try to change cust in order to debrand it (bye bye warranty) or you can search for a vodafone firmware, download both the file update.zip and the file update_data_full.zip and flash them via twrp. You have this "buggy" software because you don't have the complete firmware installed.
