Please see -> [FAQ] How to prepare for and take an OTA update (All Carriers)
Basically, you need to put back all stock files or the OTA will fail to install. So if those Google Apps came pre-installed, they will likely be needed... as well as any other stock apps you removed or modified.
And you need STOCK Recovery installed.
Installation failed

Even I had rooted XT1052, and the update was unsuccessful. The error was Signature mismatch. (I don't have stock recovery).Did you install the update?

Which version did u update from and what to?
More than likely, you will need a different version of google apps. To do this you will have to flash from the cwm recovery once you hasve the right gaps. Also i would highly recomend a factory restore in settings afterword. I always factory restore after an update if going from one vrrsion to annother and not a fresh install

Did you try reinstalling the play store -> http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...-play-store-activity-iap-indicators-and-more/
Download .apk and install from cm file manager in the apps list. You'll need to enable settings -> security -> unknown sources before installing.
Perhaps it will work after that.
Or you can reboot into recovery and flash the gapps again. Flash gapps for the version of cm you use.
Otherwise, you should make full backups in the recovery before installing an update so you can roll right back.
Or you can wipe and do a clean install.
I've never tried installing an older update but if you want to see if that works or crashes and burns then there's an option too. That won't bring back play store though
I have had my Moto X (2014) Pure Edition for about two weeks now and am loving it! I am coming from a Nexus 5.
I have a question about a message I received after I unlocked the bootloader and have rooted the phone. Before I did any of this, I did, as prompted, update the Motorola Sensor Services.
After a smooth bootloader unlock and root, however, I now have a message, about "Complete Uninstall" and reverting the Sensor Services firmware. I am continuing to install all of the Moto app updates and getting the phone back to where it was.
What should I do? Should I revert the services back? Or as some has said on other forums, if you reboot, it should disappear?
I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
Matthew
A restart did not make the message go away.
I got it too after rooting I uninstalled the update and few minutes later it prompted me for the update install it without losing root
For clarification

Just to clarify. You are saying uninstall the services like it asks and then I'll be reprompted to install it, and then I should install it?
I installed the update before I unlocked and rooted once I unlocked and rooted phone I was prompted to uninstall the update so I did after a reboot I was prompted to install update I install it with root and exposed I though it would fail but it didn't and I retained root that's my experience short answer its worth a try
Fixed
As soon as the phone downloaded the newest motorola sensors by itself while restoring itself the uninstall notification went away. I think it's fixed! Thanks!
Just in case it helps anyone. I did what the notification said and revert the sensor firmware. And after the reboot, I updated all moto aps and another notification with an update for the sensors firmware appeared. So... nothing happened at the end. But also, it doesn't matter if you revert the firmware because the update is going to appear later again.
So when I first received my phone, it had one of the new Play Store updates already installed (Metro UI). I had a couple of problems activating the phone, so I ended up doing factory reset. For some reason, that downgraded the Play Store version to build 4.9.13 but I don't understand why. Anyway, an easy way to update it (if there's an update available), it to simply open up the Play Store, go to Settings, then scroll down all the way to the Build Version. You simply tap the version number, and if there's an update available it downloads it and installs it. Otherwise, you just get a message that says it's up to date.
Well, my phone keeps saying that it's up to date, although my 1st gen Moto X has been upated to version 5.0.31. Does anyone know why my 2nd gen Moto X won't update the Play Store verion? I have already tire clearing cache and data, but that does nothing. I know I can manually download the apk, but I'm just curious as to why it won't update automatically especially since it already had the new version when I first received it.
Thanks
Mine is doing this too
There is a thread here with the latest apk. If that helps you.

I know I can just download the apk. Mainly wondering why it reverted to an old version when it was shipped with the new one, and why it keeps saying that it's up to date.
Present, I am on Kit-Kat OS in Moto G 2014 (XT1068) model
Everytime it is asking me to update to Lollipop with a message MAY BE LATER or I'M IN
I accidentally pressed I'M IN, then it is getting downloading Lollipop, but I don't want to update to Lollipop.
How to cancel the update ?
And how to cancel checking for update every time ?
If you're rooted you can go into titanium backup and disable the update scheduled.

I bought this for my mom and I was wondering if the tablet did regular updates, would it lose google play? What would an OTA take out other than root?
I'm currently on 5.1.1(got mine the day the update was released and updated without knowing) and I was able to install google play and services and haven't had any problems with either. As far as OTA updates, I doubt it will prevent it from working but can't say for sure because we don't know what Amazon will do.

Others have mentioned that the Amazon updates are full images, so I would speculate that if you had root and installed to system it would probably be wiped out. If you used the script, it just installs like a regular app and should be retained through an OTA like all the other apps. That's not to say that an OS change couldn't cause the frameworks or app to crash\stop functioning.
Didn't some others say they couldn't install Play store completely on 5.1.1 ?

The current update may not break google play but at any time in the future a update may come out that does indeed break it. Why risk it? Just disable OTA.
It seems a bunch of people got screwed because they failed to kill OTA & got hit by 5.1.1. It's just foolish to leave OTA enabled. You can always apply a new update manually or even temporarily re-enable OTA if a new update proves safe & you want it.

This. Completely automatic updates are for the elderly that have to call their children to be reminded how to cut/paste in Excel.

The Google Play script from 5.0.1 works just the same in 5.1.1 without issue.
