[Q] GS6 from Costco - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

I would like to have a return policy with more than 14 days when buying a new phone, and I thought maybe I would try Costco. On Costco's cell phones/wireless website, the return time is 90 days, but when I called the Costco by my house, the guy said 14 days. I was looking for the AT&T GS6 version.
Has anyone ever bought a smartphone from Costco, and knows what the deal is with the return policy?

I believe it's 14 day return, 90 exchange. Also nice is if buying on contract you only pay tax on their price not on full price like everywhere else.

This is from Costco websites:
RETURN POLICY
Costco.com's return policy for any Wireless Advocates merchandise obtained through this website is 90 days from the original date of purchase. You must ship your merchandise in back to Wireless Advocates in like - new condition for a full refund. Merchandise should not be returned to a Costco store. All returns must be accompanied by a return authorization form which can be obtained from our Customer Service Team. Our distribution center is not able to process refunds for returns received without a return authorization.
Within 90 days you may receive a refund on the handset itself. However, you will still be responsible for any applicable early termination fees if service is canceled after the Trial Period. The Trial Period varies by carrier and State. See carrier Cancellation Policy for details.

You can return your phone under 90 days, but after 14 days your contract won't be able to reverse.

Well, there will be no contract when you sign up with AT&T Next. So if I pay for the phone for 2 months, and then return it, what then? I'm going to lose two months worth of payments because I didn't like the phone?

Nop, when you do AT&T next, the price of the phone will be 0, AT&T will put the full price charge on your account but you pay it monthly.
So basically, when you return your device to Costco, you get nothing back from Costco because the price is 0, and you still own AT&T money, they count the return as trade in I believe.

Buying a Nexus 4 full price at T-Mobile?

Seeing as how getting a Nexus 4 from the Play Store within the next month may be impossible, who here is considering / has already purchased one full price from T-Mobile?
To my understanding, they're the exact same units as the ones sold on the Play Store (not carrier locked)
Another little perk is that exchanges would be a breeze if there was some defect in the phone.
How much is the price for that?

$499.
An idea would be to start a new contract, then cancel it over the phone in the same hour. I think your total price would be around $400

+ tax and prorated cell phone bill for at least 1 day.
T-Mobile is $499 plus tax
Good luck trying to buy off contract at T-Mobile store, I found 2 stores in Atlanta that had 1 left and they refused to sell of contract. They said the first batch is for new lines and upgrades. I tried to get one of my cousins upgrade for t-mobile, but he was out of town and I couldn't get him to make me a authorized user since he wasn't the primary to account. You can try your luck, it might be a YMMV situation.

Prorated cell phone bill would be less than $5.
No tax here in Oregon, the only thing I may have to worry about would be an activation fee
Are you sure you're able to do that? I thought they would try to charge you the full month before canceling.

Buyer Beware

So not only do you have to pay up to a $325 ET fee to the carrier if you don't fulfill your 2 year contract, but ADD up to $400 more to Amazon!!
AmazonWireless Terms and Conditions
Instant Discount Policy
When you purchase your device with service from AmazonWireless.com, we automatically pass along an instant discount based on a commission paid to AmazonWireless by your wireless service carrier. The commission depends upon your continued service, and if you do not maintain your service for 181 days from the service activation date, AmazonWireless must return the commission to the carrier. Thus, this discount has been provided to you in good faith based on your agreement to (a) activate a new or extend an existing line of service for the device(s) with the carrier for two years, (b) maintain this line of service in good standing, and (c) not alter the line of service type other than adding an additional line of service to an individual account for at least 181 consecutive days.
The following are some scenarios where we may determine that you have not maintained your service and have not met the requirements listed above:
If your device with the carrier is not activated per Amazon's activation instructions within 14 days
If your service is canceled/disconnected before 181 days and you do not return the device(s) to Amazon
If a new individual or new family account is merged with or replaces a pre-existing account
If you transfer this equipment to another carrier's service or to another line in your family account and deactivate the line that Amazon established for your device
By accepting this Instant Discount Policy, you agree to repay $400 per smart phone or tablet and $200 per other device if you do not maintain your carrier service for 181 consecutive days from the service activation date. You also authorize us to collect that amount using any credit card we have on record for you. Amazon can periodically check your account status with the carrier to confirm your line of service is active and in good standing and thereby confirm you are in compliance with this policy.

Don't buy phones for a penny (or any discount) with the intention of canceling your contact earlier than (I think, I didn't read your posted T&C's) six months and you won't have this problem.
Sympathy level: 0
I am pretty sure I'm wrong about the six months I mentioned earlier but my original point stands.

Was thinking about getting a galaxy s3 under contract, and just paying the $325 early termination fee, rather than buying one outright for $550. If you break your contract and pay the early termination fee, it doesn't hurt your credit rating.

So just don't try to get phones for less than they cost and it's a non-issue? Buyers definitely need to beware...
That's pretty normal for lots of places. In the UK you get a contract for 12, 18 or 24 months and the phone is charged on a sliding scale, but you're tied to that contract for that time. For example, I got my S2 in July 2011. It was free, but on a 24 month contract where I pay about £30 a month for a bunch of free calls, texts and data. If I were to break the contract at any time then they'd simply multiply my monthly contract cost by the number of months I had left and charge me that (or maybe a little less).
I've only ever had 1 phone for virtually nothing and that was because they changed the prices on the contract after I'd signed up, and the change went beyond some threshold they were allowed to go over. 1000's of people across the UK cancelled their contracts legally and kept their phones. I'd had a HTC Touch HD for about 3 months on contract and I think I'd paid about £75 at that point.
But anyway, I digest.

Nothing wrong with trying to look for the best possible deal, even if it means breaking your contract (provided you pay the early termination fee).
My point is that Amazon is double dipping by adding their early termination fee in addition to the carrier's early termination fee.
Amazons price for the S3 is only $20 less than Radio Shack, yet they are willing to charge you $400 more if you break your contract.

No they aren't. What you quoted clearly explains the fee. If you cancel before 6 months is up, they have to return their commission to the carrier, so they charge you for it. What is so hard to understand? Besides most people have no problem keeping a phone active for 6 short months.

[Q] Best Buy Verizon Deal on Note 8

I know that I probably just need to drag my ass down to Best Buy or Verizon, but thought that I'd ask here first.
I am currently on a two year contract. Actually the contract expired last year, but the point is that I go with the whole two year contract thing. If I take advantage of Best Buy's offer on the Verizon, how will that affect my contract? You get the phone through BB, and it is $150 off. The monthly payment is something like $33 per month. Is that a contract price? Or do I lose my contract?
It's difficult to keep up with this stuff. I have always had contracts and never gone with anything else.

That would be the monthly payment for the phone itself, in addition to your Verizon plan cost.
Very few phones are subsidized anymore. They care more about the device payment than the contract. I have been out of contract for 2 years. When they used to subsiduze the phones they would lock you into a 2 year contract on the phone. That is no longer done by VZ. If you have a contract it's either because you got a subsidized phone less than 2 years ago or you added a VZ tablet or smart watch to your account. They still provide minimum subsidies on VZ tablets and smart watches.
I just cancelled my VZ preorder and paid off my S7. I then pre ordered from Best Buy to save the additional 150. Plus, I'll get 425 for my mint condition S7 Edge. I paid 786 with the 150 off, 56 dollars in tax and will get my Note 8 for 361 excluding tax or 15.04 per month. I also get to keep my Pixel XL as a spare.

Thanks. I actually completed my contract last October. I've had this Note 4 for almost three years. Turns out that I'm kinda dumb, because I've been paying the same price that I did when under contract, and my phone has been mine for almost a year. I pre-ordered a couple of Note 8s from Best Buy and once I get them, I'm going to knock my plan down to 2GB. With the 2GB plan and the two phones on payment plan, I'll be paying just a few more dollars than I'm currently paying.
I didn't keep up on what's going on with phones now, but it almost seems like this is a better way to go. I can pay this phone off any time I want, get a different phone, and sell it. Seems like more freedom.

Insurance options?

I'm getting (eventually, thanks Sammy) the 512gb Ocean Blue and the delayed order has given me time to compare insurance options. My current carrier is T-Mobile and their insurance is $12/month with a $250 deductible. If you keep the device for 2 years that comes out to $538 if you file a claim once with the highest deduct. That is quite expensive so I've started to look elsewhere.
Esurance is $149 for 2 years of coverage and anywhere from $25 deduct for an easy fix up to $199 for complete loss and they cover lost or stolen. If you keep the device for 2 years that comes out to $348 if you file a claim once with the highest deduct. I'm just not sure if they will charge more if you have the 512gb model which is more expensive.
SquareTrade is $129 for 2 years of coverage and anywhere from $25 deduct for a cracked screen up to $99 deduct for a complete loss. Only catch is they don't cover loss or stolen. If you keep the device for 2 years that comes out to $228 if you file a claim once with the highest deduct.
Any thoughts? Anyone else have any insurance suggestions? With a $1,300 device I'm definitely in the market.
I went with Samsung Premium Care. 3 claims a year, 12 bucks a month and 99 dollar deductible. I'm not paying T-Mobile 12 bucks a month for that ridiculous deductible they have. I like the fact that I can keep it on the phone for however long I want and cancel at any time, so if I sell the phone for the S10 or whatever, I don't have to worry about transferring a warranty.

I'm not sure. If you go to the Premium Care site and put in your mobile phone number it will tell you if you are eligible. I carried it on my Note 8 that I bought from Swappa brand new. I bought the 9 from Samsung this time and added it at checkout.
I am paying my monthly bill using a WF Amex card. When you pay the bill through it, you get coverage for up to $600 per a claim and 2 claims in a 12 month period with a $25 deductible.

Hmmm never heard about this. So you get free protection even for Stolen just not lost. And the only deduct you'd pay is $25. I would just be worried because this device is $1300 and they only cover up to $600? So if your device is stolen they'll replace it with a lesser priced model?

I'm guessing you meant to reply to mine post. I think the difference between stolen and lost is you probably have to file a police report. That to them, probably makes a difference.
As for the reimbursement, here's what it says per their T&C
"Depending on the nature and circumstances of the damage or theft, the benefit administrator, at its sole discretion, may choose to repair or replace the Cellular Wireless Telephone or reimburse the Cardholder for the lesser of a) $600.00 excess of the twenty-five dollar ($25.00) deductible; or b) the current suggested retail price of a replacement Cellular Wireless Telephone of like kind and quality, excluding taxes, delivery and transportation charges and any fees associated with the Cellular
Wireless Telephone service provider less the twenty-five dollar ($25.00) deductible."
So it sounds like they will try to repair or replace the phone, or pay out up to $600. Given that our phone is $1000+, I'm assuming that they will pay out $600 - $25 deductible. Just remember that you aren't paying for any additional warranty plans, so you need to factor that in as well.

I usually use squaretrade for my phones. You can have coverage past 2 years of you renew it yearly. I've never had to file a claim on a phone so I cant speak for the experience of the claim process. Another good thing is of you pay yearly for squaretrade you can switch to to another phone when you upgrade.

I'm leaning towards SquareTrade personally, its overall the cheapest and a $99 deductible is an easy pill to swallow compared to T-Mobile's $250 deduct. I even did an online chat with SquareTrade and made sure if something happens to my 512gb that I will get a 512gb in return, and not a 128gb and they confirmed yes.

That I do not know the answer to.
Did you ask about what happens when you get the $300 trade in credit though?
I specifically asked about the trade in credit and their response was that the device is NOT considered "paid off" until all of the 24 monthly device credits have been applied.
I ask if i pay off the remaining balance after trade-in. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78016113&postcount=2
the credit is given 1/month for 24 months, so if you pay off the remaining balance early, you lose the remiaining credits.

Yes it's a scam, you get charged full price and they keep your pixel 2 for whatever they have already paid you.

You're getting the trade in discount in exchange for paying them for service for 24 months. If you chose to break the agreed upon 24 months of service payments, they get to keep your traded in phone to make up for their lost revenue they expected from you.

They don't have "service contracts" in the same way they were done a number of years ago (neither do ATT or VZW to my knowledge). But delivery of the discount via bill credit ropes you in to continued service for a period of time so they can recoup the initial loss of selling a brand new phone at half price. It's effectively a contract that you don't have to sign.
I'm just pointing out that carriers aren't giving stuff away for free - there is (almost) always a way that they recoup the cost.
I wanted to trade in my SGS6 (that sits in a drawer) to get this phone for $280, pay it off and take it to ATT. But I'm not gonna pay TMo 24 months of service for the privilege - their coverage is trash where I am.
The carriers are like the house in Vegas - they never lose in the long run.
^I can confirm that the Vegas casino's always win!
It's not what I understood though I don't have an eligible phone for trade-in. I understood you have to select EIP and after 40 days you can pay it off and you will continue to get the credit up to the 24 months. You leave them earlier than the 2 years the credit stops.. For $300 that is only $12.50/month discount. Not much discount for them to keep your business for the next 2 years.
Bill credits will be applied no matter if you payoff or not. If it's the only TMO device and line that may make a difference but I have 6 lines and 3 data lines. I was told I'll still get the credits on my bill
I did a similar trade in credit offer a few years ago and paid off the device early, still got the credits until the end of the designated period, despite not even having the device any longer on the account. YMMV
You keep the credits so long as you have the device on EIP for at least the first full month..if you choose the 2nd month to pay the device off in full..the credits still get applied to the bill..the credits you get for trading in are independent of your EIP balance.
Today I got mine for TMobile, the lady that was helping me get it was chill as hell. She told me that even if I wore to pay it off after the trade in the credits will still come in no matter what because from my understanding, they do not go towards the actual device EIP they go to the bill itself. So basically of you pay it off after your first billing cycle the credit from the trade in with continue to roll in for the remaining 20 something months
It seems to me the way so many people answer this is what creates confusion. They agree to provide you bill credits over 24 months. They should do that IRRESPECTIVE of whether you pay the phone off early or not (though you might wait a month to reduce the change of billing confusion). Of course if you cancel service during that 24 month period they aren't going to cut you a check for that money each month, so if you leave Tmo you'd lose it. That's the main way it differs from an immediate rebate. Paying off early vs. continued financing is not really a consideration over the longer term.
