[Q] Ghost touch problem - automatic touches in screen Xperia ZR - Sony Xperia ZR

My xperia ZR was working perfectly fine, all of a sudden am seeing touch inputs in the screen automatically with out my intervention.
1) I cleared the screen, removed screen guard and gave a wipe.
2) restarted , removed battery.
3) Reset to factory mode.
4) Tried in Safemode also.
I didnt install any softwares recently, no rooting or rom installation done in recent times.
I am running AOSP based custom kitkat ROM (ultra pure) in the phone.
Came across an post where they asked to open a paint application and test. As i did found the ghost touch input is seen in same place, same pattern. Have attached screenshot.
Suggestions please.

Why are you still using KK? Upgrade to LP & the problem will disappear. (probably some junk corrupted in cache..dalvik or apps caches?)
The worst case scenario is you XZR is physically damaged? due to pressure or some foreign object/liquid on/in the screen assembly!

Now I flashed with Lollipop (10.6.A.0.454) still there is problem.
Am currently using Touch Blocker app to block the touch on a selected area alone. But the same doesn't work with landscape apps.
Having hard time ...
Suggest me Cheap & Best option to change the digitizer(the touch glass). Is the display is fused with digitizer in ZR.
Expertise help here please.

The screen don't come cheap (likely to pay half the price the phone is worth or more for a Genuine article). Can you recall the phone receiving any knocks or anytime when it may have been mishandled?
You can get the screen as a whole unit. http://goo.gl/9xz0Hj (oh! sorry, just noticed they are out of stok, meaning you'll have a hard time finding a Genuine replacement due to these devices being OBSOLETE!) EDIT; AVAILABILITY: ON ORDER.
DATE EXPECTED IN STOCK 03/07/2015
EDIT; you could even ask them if they think the hardware is the problem!!!!
Or the cheap option is a unit from eBay but they will be fake and poor quality!!
Not for the faint hearted (or inexperienced!)

[Q] Z1 screen skipping

I noticed that every once in a while, the touchscreen on my Z1 "skips". i.e., if I draw a straight line with my finger, it will actually come out as a few short lines with a break between them.
I notice it most in the pattern unlock screen. I will draw my pattern, but it will connect 2 dots, jump, connect another 2 dots, jump again, until I get the pattern wrong error, and in the second attempt everything is fine.
Has anyone else experienced that?

This happens every once in a while for me while using Swype keyboard. I thought it was a Swype issue, but if you're having this then maybe it's the phone. Haven't noticed it anywhere else but haven't tested.

I have this problem too... I tested it with "touch test", and confirmed my suspicion...

I've run into something like this when trying to pull up the pie menu. Normally, sliding up onto the screen from below will trigger the pie menu to pop up (similar to the default "google now" trigger gesture). Every once in a while it'll instead register as a number of taps on whatever is already on that area of the screen (thus triggering some untended action or link most of the time). Of course it won't happen when I'm trying to reproduce it or running some kind of test, but when I least expect it, it happens again.
To verify this issue you can also try going to: Settings, About Phone (last entry on the bottom), Diagnostics, Test Device, Touchscreen.
If the recorded line really does skip you should contact your reseller/ Sony.
If it is just an occasional error it might be Software and not Hardware related. I have not had this problem yet, though.
Oh finally so it's not me alone. Great phone but this single problem lets it down. I'm suspecting a lot ppl have it and dont realise. Not everyone uses swype keyb or swype pattern unlock.
My suspicion is the sony screen protector fitted at factory. Tempted to rip it off.

Hmm strange my phone's been having fur over a day now. I removed the screen protector that came supplied in the box and found the problem still existed. Now I've got a real cheapy one on and swyping has been real good.

Hey guys I'm having the same problem, too! Which firmware version were you guys using? Because I think the newest firmware .257 has problems has touch I will try to revert to .524 and update you guys later
EDIT : Okay, I have just went back to 524 firmware to test and I can confirm that the problem still persists.
No problem here, maybe it's related to screen protector?
Ok now

Hi, is your problem fixed? havent tried changing my screen guard.
Nope not really even though I was convinced at first. Problem comes and goes randomly.
My real issue is using Swype and it's driving me mad. As a workaround if I use my thumb it works fine. Must be the amount of surface contact while I swype.

I confirmed the problem too
Please see this video

Probably it is a cause of a hardware issue.

So is hardware problem and will never be fixed?
For few weeks I never saw that problem on mine so I was not worry about it but today I tested few nice games and I realized that after a minute playing the game (Minimotor or HAWX) the virtual joystick stopping working. I have to retouch the joystick with my hand or take off my hand from the phone. All the time.
This is bad, so the Flagship Device is comming to be a Crap Device.

After having your Z1 for a while now, would you still recommend it?

Would you still recommend a Z1 now to new buyers?
Is there anything you wish you would have known before you bought your Z1?
How would you suggest a new Z1 owner check their brand-new phone for issues? What are the things to focus on and how would you test them?

Yes. I recommend it and, in fat, someone in my office just went to get a black one (mine is white, first ever for me)
I would say the stock camera issues I auto mode but it is not a deal breaker.

Absolutely, I've gotten around 5 people to get a Z1 instead of Note III.
I knew pretty much everything because I read XDA a lot. I knew about the yellow tint but I don't consider it a problem. I'm not gonna switch it out 5-6 times because I've had Samsung before and their phones have the half side of the display yellow. So I'm very happy with this. I didn't tell people about the "problem" because I don't wanna put that kind of stress on someone. If they don't notice it, it wont hurt them.
All in all I love my Z1.
Definitely go for the z1 mate it's an awesome

I own a Z1 for about a month now and I absolutely love it. Coming from an iPhone4 which was fine and considering a 5s. I have no regrets at all. I would buy one if I was you. The viewing angle and the screen are perfect for me and the speed the phone has ( still om stock) is amazing. Come join the club.

Z1S (tmo), swype problems

I did the diagnostics with the touch screen, and turned out ok, but sometimes I get swype issues that are similar to the touchscreen problem on older Z1's-- you can see the swype drag line break up and I get garbage (2-3 letter) words onto my text fields. If I change hand positions/put the phone down, and retry--swype works fine. Anyone else having similar issues?

Yep, I am. I think people on the Z1 were having the same issue, but some firmware fixed the problem.

..the only FW which can fix this problem is .136. Reported it does, but always can be the exception.
Interesting, I'm on fw 14.2.C.0.159 (C6916), and definitely seeing it (device test was ok). I'm going to check another phone at the store...

agree! after flashing .136, problem is still there.
i have already highlight this issue to a sony rep at their forum few days ago. he have already escalated this issue.
Trying to hit the store tomorrow.... But I can't reproduce the error consistently, but I have gotten it to fail on the touchscreen test mainly on the lower half of the screen. And every time, if I reposition my hand, it fixes itself. I do notice more dust on the screen when it has problems.
Makes me think the screen is too sensitive in certain cases (dust, fingerprints,??) , or considering this problem started after I got a very, very fine scratch near the top of the screen....i.e. a scratch on the anti shatter film is creating some problem. I'm getting a zagg screen protector but it would be nice if Sony offered a replacement film.

About white screen bug.

My phones original lcd panel and digitizer got busted 2 weeks ago. I bought spare parts from internet and its now working. But weird thing happened. On my previous screen I have never experienced a single white screen issue but now I am one of the few to have it. Its gotta be an issue about several panels. And my screen quality dropped heavily... Gonna lend this phone to my dad soon anyways. I just wanted to warn you guys.
What ROM are you using? If you're using CM 10.1 try to install the 07/07/2013 build (why don't you try the 07/07/2013 build by bleached? It works very very well! :good: )
I know but I am not gonna bother. stock seems fine right now.
Excuse me, explain right..

About this, I think that you keep the screen on direct sun light! Or under a desk lamp.
I recommend, to keep the phone on cold places.
I had same problem when I had the phone on my bag at school.....It was automaticaly turned off, and when I try to power on it says battery low.
(Even I charged it before).

Strange touch behavior

So I noticed something today... I had my s6 laying flat on my bed and I went to type a message in Hangouts. The keyboard was almost entirely unresponsive. So I picked up the phone and loaded a different app and the keyboard worked fine. I went back to Hangouts and it was indeed working fine again. I thought maybe it was just a hiccup and didn't give it any more thought. Until a short while later I was laying down again, this time with Chrome loaded. I went to enter a url and again the keyboard was largely unresponsive. I picked up the phone and the keyboard worked again. At this point I got this crazy idea that perhaps the s6 was smart enough to know I was "holding" my phone so I set it back down on my bed and with one hand tried to do a bunch of tasks like loading apps, typing, gestures from the Nova launcher home screen... all of these actions were either very flaky or simply did not respond at all.... until I used my other hand to touch the side of the phone. Presto! The screen was responsive again! Is this some sort of #touchgate??? Is anyone else experiencing this? Can anyone else reproduce it? I'm really at a loss here and I often enjoy being lazy and using my phone with one hand while it sits flat on its own. I've been testing this over and over to make certain I'm not just losing my mind. :/
Im having the same issue... i believe when u hold the phone in ur hand it completes the "circuit" and when ur not its like its not grounded or something.. also having the phone plugged resolved the issue too regardless if its in hand or laid down ...sorry dont know how else to explain it... and having a screen protector and case seemed to make it even worse... i had the same issue with my nexus 7 (2013) and having a screen proctor on it made the screen almost unusable.. i never found a fix to the nexus 7 i just didnt use a screen protector again

Hmm... that's possible I guess. I'll have to test that later tonight. I have a case on mine currently with no issues (Spigen Neo Hybrid Metal) but when I'm at home I normally have it off. But with or without Nova, it's weird that simply touching the side of the phone would make the screen function properly.
I know i thought it was strange as well but sure enough when someone told me about that on my nexus 7 that was the only way to get the screen to work properly was to touch the device while using it or have it plugged in... im not sure if its the same issue but it seems very similar to me on my galaxy s6

My neighbor just got the s6 and I just did a quick test on his outdoor glass table... same result and without Nova. The hell is going on???
