Hello all,
Have this baby since Dec. 2013 when I swapped it from a broken one.
Has been running since, no problems, no root, no unlock, all well.
Switched it to power off before a trip and wanted to power back on in airplane, no nothing, silence.
Long press, vol down + power, up + power, no change at all. Charging shows keyboard is full, no light on tablet. Connection to PC also nada.
Any ideas?

Well I'll be damned. Brought it to Asus. First off they told me that the tablet purchased in Holland does not have warranty in Russia, so I am to pay myself. I paid for a diagnose, so at least they tell me what's wrong. The result is, they told me the screen is completely to be renewed. My disagreement with this is simple. The screen goes dead and also no light is showing the charging status? The screen is dead but the device works, no way, then I should feel a vibration on power-on, because I power it down. The screen is dead and why does the HDMI not give output either?
So my question to You guys here, is this really possible ?
I disagree to pay 200 Euro's for a device still in warranty for a display repair, so I will have it returned to Holland and do warranty there, but I am really pissed with this.
AND, what a beaty to keep the nicely fitting TF700T in my hands again, it does not have the crazy connection between keyboard and tablet, this was SOOO much better.

TF701 doesn't have vibration.....

Sorry for mixing them up, it must be my HTC One which is 'waking me up' with a vibrate instead.
Yesterday I received my TF701T back from the local Asus Premium Service and I 'am not too impressed'.
To give You an idea of my bad feeling:
I gave a device which did not give any reaction at all, to whatever I do.
1)I was returned a device which shows the charging orange led, they must have changed something.
2)the charging light does not turn off, even after a complete night charging
3)touching the power button now turns on the display backlight, it can easily be noticed it bad light, it certainly did not do that before (I would have known I have a display problem).
-There are some scratches on the devices back which were not there before. Nothing to be angry about, but not made by me. The front is full of fingerprints, also certainly not how I gave it to them.
So, did I get something else back? I certainly have that feeling, but will probably never be able to show this. Do I judge this 'Premium Service', certainly not. I would have expected better care and an explanation on the changes.
The diagnose just says 'LCD Module needs to be exchanged'. My question as to 'why' was not answered, we do not do such diagnose.
My question 'if this would have been warranty, would it have been a Russian purchased device' was answered, 100% for sure. But as I have purchased it in Holland they are forced to deny the warranty. I would have to pay 213 Euro next to the 20 Euro I already paid for the diagnose. I decided to return the device to Holland for warranty repair instead. A new device including the Eng/Rus keyboard would be just double the price of the repair and makes it quite unrealistic to me.
Next to explaining this whole situation and providing copies of the documents given by Asus Premium Service here, when I give it away in Holland, anything else I should do?, other proposals ?

waste of time if you ask me. i sent mine twice now, just got it back and now the sd card inthe dock doesn`t work immediately noticed.
It just mounts un mounts over and over formatted the sd and tested other devices \. so hey failed to repair.
I have now demanded a new one but asus still say only repair..
well i have owned the device for 5 months and they have had it for 3 month of that time......
not to mention they didn`t fix the issues it already had. even though claiming they replaced the board.
and i can see the keyboard has marks along the side as if the repairer couldn`t open it and damaged the plastic seals.
so i have escalated this and refused to repair a third time. i said send me a new one and i will send you my faulty one. otherwise i go to the fair trade for a complaint here.
Also several people on the forum have tricked themselves into believing this tablet is now great and no issues because they are using software better than the poorly delivered asus version.

Well i`m sorry for being negative but while yes the device does have great specs and looks nice and should have been a top market seller, ASUS delivery of build quality destroyed any chance of that.
The lack of any dev except from 2 people shows just how poor this device is. compared to the tf700 which was terrible in io and had tons of people complaining yet it still received alot of development comparative to this device.

Again and again, people never get tired..... I am using stock, with no problem... and I do not have to say it everytime someone has a problem. For the 10000000000000000000 time, unlike those who have a problem, those who dont will not post!!!! Regarding the development.. it is called devlopment... what are you lookinf for to develop? And if you think that developing is lacking because of the problems the tablet has, have a look on the samsung note2014... except if you think it has too, problems!

Thanks guys for your opinions.
I have had the device back now for 2-3 days and it is charging continuously, the orange light never changes to green.
The changes of the device after the diagnose are so noticable that I am just wondering:
-did I get my device back or another one?
-did they replace my display for a broken one?
-did they remove or exchange the battery while they had it open?
As the device has no serial on the outside any of the above are possible.
Does any of You have an email from Asus where I could inform about what happened, before the device is even send to Holland again.
Edit: Even one more difference. If I connect it through USB with my PC and use Volume-Down + Power to switch it one, the PC is recognizing, installing a driver and comes back with ASUS Android Bootloader Interface (Device driver software installed successfully)
For the pro's, is there any way I could get to 'talk to the device' and see its content?
Over the weekend I am to try to connect through HDMI if I can see inside.

Hi guys,
I got my XSP 17 days ago and it's already giving me this weird problem. I bought it brand new (well, I got it from a possibly shady reseller in Russia, but it looked new and un-tampered, I checked it carefully ).
It worked perfectly as my main phone for about two weeks (with the official stable CM 11) when suddenly, it started switching off by itself. When it first started doing this a couple of days ago, it would shut off randomly twice or thrice a day, but today it switches off about every 5 minutes. Sometimes it doesn't even complete the boot sequence before it turns off.
The effect is just about the same as pulling the battery out. One moment you're using the phone, the next moment the screen is blank. No vibrations, no errors, no lights, nothing. It can be turned on normally and works for a short while before turning off again.
I haven't been able to isolate the problem to any single use case - it turns off with and without the SIM, with/without the SD card, on airplane mode and off, with the screen on or off.
It turns off with every combination of CM11, CM12 and stock that I tried, with stock kernel, default CM kernel, William's kernel and Tangerine kernel.
Although I don't want to admit it, it looks like it's a battery problem. Perhaps the battery lost capacity sitting around in a warehouse for two years? Either that or I was duped by the place I got it from, which seems unlikely as it was spotless in its original packing with all the plastic bits covering the screen, camera and microphone, and a warranty sticker over a screw on the back. Besides, they've given me a one-year service guarantee (it's not the official Sony warranty, though).
Mine is the C5303 model.
Has anyone had this problem? Can anyone suggest what I could do about it? It's a great phone except for this problem

you should try to flash a stock ftf ROM with flash-tool ....if the problem still happen with you then i'm afraid it's a hardware problem

Thank you for your response, but I've already tried that, to no avail. This makes me think it's definitely a hardware problem that's related to either the battery or the charging circuit.
However, a recent experiment I tried seems to contradict this. I left the phone on CWM recovery for about 40 minutes and it didn't switch off! I even ran a backup to add strain to the battery, but no, it stayed on.
This indicates that it might not be a battery problem - a battery problem should affect the phone in recovery as well as inside the Android OS.
One major difference between CWM and Android is that Android runs the radios, while a recovery has no need to. Could it be a chance bug in the radio firmware? Is there any way to reflash the radio firmware?

actually i never saw a radio firmware to flash ......but it's not a battery problem for sure ....maybe cpu can't handle the ROM running or like you said radio don't run in cmw then it mite be the cause of the problem
but anyway it's a hardware ...since you are flashing a stock ftf via flashtool then the radio shouldn't have any problems at all !
so you need to go to service center i think to repair it ...sorry for not finding an answer or a direct solution for your problem

I have another question, if anybody can answer: what does the original guarantee sticker look like? Mine is the one in the attachment, stuck over the central screw.

I don"t have this Sticker. The Sony Ericson Joint-Venture was ended Yeats before the SP came out... Looks like it is from another phone...
Anyway:
Cwm doesn't use a high current.
Because of stuff I can't explain in English, it could be possible the battery delivers enough Voltage but not enough current for booting up.
Although, it seems more likely to be a RAM error. Yeah, that can happen on phones too.
That would explain the very random behavior.
Cwm doesn't change anything in the RAM when it does nothing. That's why the error doesn't occur then.

AHA! Now this got me thinking. I flashed a fresh ROM without gapps, set the maximum processor clock to 384 MHz, turned down the brightness, switched off WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, etc., and now it works perfectly fine without switching off! Looks like you're right, the battery can't produce enough current.
I can now reproduce the problem reliably by setting governor to performance @1.7GHz, turning up the brightness, switching on all the devices mentioned above and recording video. The moment I touch the button to stop recording, the extra strain caused by flushing the buffer to the memory causes the phone to switch off. Bingo! :good:
What does this mean? That the battery is weak? Or the charging circuit is wrongly cutting off the battery?

It means the battery is weak. I guess the phone itself should be fine.
When a bettery gets old, it can get a higher resistance. Yeah, batteries have a resistance too. In German it's called Innenwiderstand. Literally translated "inner resistance". It's the same effect like when your car's battery is old. Your stereo still gets its 12V, but trying to start the car will let the curcuit "die" for a few seconds.
The battery in the SP can be replaced, it's not that hard. There are some great videos on YouTube. Please don't buy a battery that is sold as original! Sony doesn't sell spare batteries for the SP. If it says original, it's used or fake.
Buy a battery from a seller who admits it is not from Sony. He is honest to you. Make sure it's a spare battery with good cells in it. Like Varta etc.

Do you have any idea where I can order a good battery, or how I can identify which ones are good?
I will be in Eastern Europe next week, where it's easier to get deliveries from eBay, etc. I might even visit Germany! Any suggestions on how to find a battery are welcome.

That's the one I would buy. You see that this not-original battery is more expensive than the "fauxriginals"? There's a reason
You can buy elsewhere too. Make sure the seller has got many good ratings over a long period of time.
A few terrible ratings aren't a problem. There are always some noobs who break their spare parts and blame the seller.
E.g. on Amazon, look for many 4-star and 3 star ratings. They are real. Bought ratings are almost always 5 star ratings.
Don't buy where all ratings are 1 or 5 stars.
The capacity may differ from the original 2300mAh. 2100mAh to 2500mAh is fine. More than 2500mAh should be fake.
You can also buy on eBay where the seller admits it's a used battery in good condition.
I don't think you can buy this battery "" offline". If you do, make absolutely sure the connectors look like in the pictures in Amazon!
In Germany, there are lot Mobile Phone Shops with an Internet Café. Mostly, they are owned by Turks.
Usually, they have a good service. They can replace the battery for you for a few bucks. If you can't be served in one shop, they'll sometimes tell you where a shop is where they can help you.

It's possible that it is caused by another component. We can't know. Buying a New battery is the cheapest option. I don't see another way to find out.
There are bad third party batteries too. But I trust someone who admits it's third party more. Just rely on the ratings...

Flash cm 12.1 only with gapps and supersu. Do not touch the kernel settings, dont make the phone overheat too much and try. Try to discharge the battery at 0% 2-3 times and recharge it with the stock charger and cable.
Can you install cpu z and tell us what voltage it reads when your battery si charged to 100% and disconnected from charger ?
It should be 4.2V i have my XSP for a year now and my battery reads 4.130V at 100%.

Hi guys, I'm back from Europe.
I know it's been a really long time, but I just wanted to update the thread in case anyone else has the same problem and finds this thread.
Before leaving, I purchased a new "original" battery at a local shop (a pretty large scale distributor).
It looks identical to the battery that was already in the phone, and also identical to the batteries in all the videos I've seen on youtube. The SONY branding is covered by a thin plate of copper, but it's there, so I assume it's not fake.
It cost me 1300 RUB (~20 USD). There was a "Craftmann" branded battery also available, but it was 3x more expensive, so I didn't buy it.
Well, the phone works fine. In the past ~2 months, it hasn't turned off even once, and the battery lasts a day with decent use (~3h GPS guidance, ~1h FM transmitter, always connected to LTE, messaging and email, occasional calls), so I consider the issue solved.

It seems that my HTC One M8 battery gave up on me. It became swollen causing the screen to pop out. I want to change it asap to prevent any other problems. Any suggestions on trustworthy online sellers for OEM batteries? Preferably shipping from within European Union.

You will save yourself headache and possibly broken phone by contacting
HTC online and arranging for battery replacement. Not easily done yourself.
Cost is competitive with choice of finding part and successfully getting battery removed and replaced.
Last time I did this, they sent me what looked like a new phone instead of the one I mailed in.
Can you guys please tell us how much you payed for the battery replacement?

What was the cost of that service?
Was $100 at that time
I've changed mine. It costed 1 hour and 20 USD.
For a battery changing and improvement, i suggest you to install an m9's battery. You Will have a bit longer lasting one. Itt fits exactly as the original m8's one. Yo Will get half an hour more screen time. The best non oem brand could be Patona. It have great scores from users in photo cameras.
You Can try do It by yourself ,not very difficult. Try search in YouTube about tutorials.

Just as the title says: Anyone know of any non-fake or refurbished mainboard sources/websites? All I see on eBay is something from old parts phones or refurbished ones. Alibaba Express obviously has the same issue, half the time they can't even write product description that makes sense, never-mind them confirming parts being new.
My phone started boot-looping real bad on stock MM update, I tried flashing different roms, kernels, going back all the way to 5.1.1. and nothing works.
I do not get "emmc failed" message like many do but I suspect it might be the controller or some other part on the board. Seems like once it starts bootlooping sometimes it gets stuck on black screen and phone heats up very strongly and basically becomes a personal heating device while it decimates battery charge. If I barely use the phone (and can get it to even load) it seems to very rarely restart (unless I use it for something). But once it start looping it's pretty much non-stop until either battery dies, it black screens or I unplug the battery. Placing it into freezer seems to make it a little more stable for a short while but once it heats up, it boot loops.
TLDR: Looking for legit new n910t motherboard, any sources?
I had exactly the same issue, with mmc read fail error coming in next. I bought a motherboard from eBay, the seller had a very good feedback and pulled the board from a working phone. Everything works well so far. Paid $100. Besides the board, it had everything so I needed only to swap the screen and chassis.

I have an old Samsung GT-i9060 phone which I'd received from my previous employer. It has finally given up and is now completely dead. I suspect a faulty charging cable to be the culprit this time as my attempts at superficial repair has proven that the problem is deeper. I tried getting it fixed at a local repair shop but he gave up on the basis that parts aren't available and that the motherboard has gone kaput.
So, to summarize....
Samsung GT-i9060 completely dead
has been dropped several times and cracked digitizer has been replaced.
old battery is not at optimum condition but problem persists when tested with a new battery.
No vibration or samsung/charging logo on display when powered on battery or charging but certain areas of motherboard get heated up if I try to turn it on.
I got some important contacts and backup on this phone which I'd really like to salvage. I invested in a few basic tools and looked up a few tutorials on the interwebz but none seem to help me understand the actual problem. I am a novice when it comes to electronics and can easily try to recover the data through some specialists but the satisfaction in getting it done myself is priceless!
So any kind of help would be immensely appreciated.

Make sure that the battery voltage is over 3.6 volt. Then connect phone to pc using usb cable without pressing any buttons then check pc detects phone's soc(broadcom interface) or not.

Update - @engage4 Battery was at 4.27V, fully charged. Connected to PC but it wasn't detected although I observed the same heating issue as mentioned in my original post (see attached pic)
Coincidentally, the memory chip and processor are on the exact underside of the mobo area that I have highlighted (which heats up)

Kaput? I know that word. That's a German word for broken. I wonder if he told you this because he wanted to repair the components on the board, or because he wanted to toss out the old board and install a new board and call it repaired.

So you already tested with a new battery. Good! That's one of the first things I would do as well. GSM Arena says the battery is "Li-Ion 2100 mAh, removable". At least you didn't need to send it in or leave it to a repair shop to replace the battery. I remember the time when you could replace the battery of your phone yourself. That in itself was very satisfactory. Those were great times! Those times are gone. Now you have to pay a premium to replace a battery. It's "complicated" they say, and so it's not for everyone (or anyone).

Hotter than what's usual for a phone that's charging? If it's shorted, charging may damage it further. You can test it of course, but you're risking it. Don't test charge for longer than you need to, preferably not at all as soon as you realize there's something wrong with the device. There's the risk of battery leaking or catching fire. So be careful and don't leave it unsupervised.

What kind of tutorials are you reading or watching? What do you think is the problem?
You have to go over more than a few tutorials if you want to be able to intuitively know what to look for or what to do. One way is to start learning about electronics in general, experiment and learn, before you get down to this specific problem. Another way is to start exploring from the repair side of things and work your way into the topic of electronics repair by troubleshooting this specific problem.
Your problem is most likely caused by a short somewhere on the board. So I would suggest you learn about short circuits or "shorts" for short (duh) and how to find shorts in general, and then work your way down to how to find shorts on mobile phones specifically.

I know that feeling. I'm wired the same way. If I can, I will try to repair and fix things on my own. Sometimes I will take on things I hardly know anything about. I will try anyway and learn in the process. Some things are admittedly more difficult than others. But that's how you learn and grow your knowledge base.
People no longer repair things. They throw out the old and broken things, and just keep on buying new things like on conveyor belt. This is not good in by any means. The biggest negative impact of this I think is that people stop using their head. They begin to believe that everything in the world is automatic. A light bulb is the result of true magic, especially when you throw in smart home plugs and switches into the equation. People are slowly being turned into slaves of consumerism. Common knowledge diminishes, like what household products you can use to remove stains, and we only live to serve a higher purpose of capitalism.
Do you have the service manual for this phone? You can usually find these online free of charge. Do you have a multimeter? The first tool you should buy and learn to use is a multimeter. Learn about the continuity test, diode mode, and how to measure voltage.
I worked as an electrician and I felt like I had to ask about how to measure voltage at a resistor, because I was unsure and didn't want to risk damaging a board more than it already is. As an electrician, I worked with voltages relative to Earth ground. I never worked with electronics, although I did get basic electronics training and I know all the basic components and how they work. We worked with soldering iron as well, and learned to use an oscilloscope. I was best in class at soldering. This was a long time ago though. We programmed PLCs, made Delta and Y-configuration connections of three phase electric motors, worked with relays and contactors, and we learned a whole load of other useful things.
My point is, always ask someone more knowledgeable and experienced if you're in doubt about something, rather than taking a risk or gambling. This is much more important of course when working with unforgiving high voltages and high currents, so as an electrician I learned early on to respect electricity. This was all part of my training and thankfully I have never had any accident. It's OK to make mistakes, and you're bound to make mistakes when experimenting, but you better have a backup plan and put in some kind of safety net, to protect yourself and to protect your equipment or whatever it is you're working on.

The USB connector on the charging cable I was temporarily using sometime back had a flimsy connector and I suspect the loose connection might have caused 'spikes' and maybe shorted some components/mobo.
I had dropped this phone on numerous occassions and almost everytime the ribbon connector for the LCD would come loose since the connector on the board was a bit wonky. I used to check this and get the phone working again. This is what I meant by superficial repair.

Nah. He simply didn't bother about repairing or even replacing it on the basis that parts are hard to come by!

YEs, I thought the battery maight be the culprit but alas, it turned out to be a problem with the mobo.

Hotter than usual, yes. I have tested and/or repeated the scenario only couple of times so as to not risk any further damage.

I have invested in a multimeter, soldering iron and supplies and a heat gun. I do also have a manual for the phone and it has helped me partially.

Now that you mention it, one of my charging cable was a bit flimsy as well. Might be what happened with my phone as well. The connector would wiggle left and right so I would have to make sure it points straight into the port and rotate the phone left and right to make sure it's not tugging on it as I put it down on a book shelf. I always charge my phones on this book shelf as the power outlet is close by.
I have actually four identical Samsung 15 W chargers sitting there, all for the Galaxy S7. Three white ones and one black, and each with its own charging cable. I had purchased some extra chargers just as spares, and one of the chargers had a bit flimsy connection, as you say. I actually once spotted that one of the 4 pins on one of the charging cables was too short, and because of it, it was not charging fast enough. I stripped it down to bare wires, all for science and learning, before throwing it away.
On another occasion, I discovered that one of these cables didn't want to charge my phone when combined with one of the four chargers. It was a perfectly fine looking cable. The same cable worked well on the other three identical chargers though. So this was a bit of mystery I had never seen before. That will remain a mystery. That same charger also worked well when combines with other cables. So both the charger and the cable worked well, but only with others, not with each other. Note that these were all original Samsung chargers and cables. The "travel adapter", model EP-TA20EWE. They all came in original Samsung retail packaging. Although the spare chargers I purchased did have a bit stiffer and thicker cables, when compared to the original that came with the phone. They were presumably made in later years, so Samsung had probably changed them up a little bit.
But this goes to show that there is more to a cable and a charger than meets the eye. I suspect it had something to do with lack of compatibility across the many charging protocols that are in circulation in the fast charging universe, like Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 vs. 3.0 vs. USB Power Delivery 2.0 vs. what-have-you.
So you're not wrong to suspect something as "simple" as a charging cable. Not even a cable can be left alone, they have to make it "smart" and complicated. If the cable doesn't know how to talk the language of the charger, it's useless. Or worse, it can destroy a device. All because industry wants to satisfy inpatient people that want fast charging, and so instead of 1 standard, they make 4 different ones, if Apple Lighting-whatever is included. By the way, the faster you charger a battery, the faster it will lose its capacity and die out.

That depends where you look and how determined you are.
I ordered a new S535 power IC for my Galaxy S7 from Germany via Ebay, and I received it last week. I don't have the exact dates, but it arrived within the same week, so about three to five days. From Germany to Sweden. I also ordered three of the same chip from a supplier in UK, also via Ebay, and it has yet to arrive. This has to do with Royal Mail strikes, so everything is delayed. In addition, I had to pay customs fee and import tax from the UK. Not sure if it will be held at Customs service and delayed even more because of this, or if it will be delivered straight to my mail box since the UK supplier made sure I can pay upfront so it can be cleared for delivery. So I will have 4 of these in total.
Let me give you another example. I have an older car that's well looked after and only driven occasionally. A few years back, it started leaking oil from the rear axis. I went to the authorized repair shop. They told me they had to either replace the differential or rebuild it. But because it's an old timer, there are no parts for it readily available. This is a BMW car and BMW has a good reputation for stock keeping parts for old models for a long time. Well, maybe they don't keep a stock of big parts such as differentials. But it's not true that it's not available. I looked it up online and found several car stripping companies that have a number of these parts to pick and choose from, some of which were in almost new condition. So if they really wanted to, they could have ordered in from there. This is where small and independent auto repair shops order from as well. I even offered to order it myself and deliver to them. But they could not make the needed arrangements. Or rather, they didn't want to. I understood the message. They can't be bothered with something as heavy, oily, dirty, difficult, skill demanding, and time consuming as a differential replacement... and a rebuild is probably as distant as science fiction to them. I never went back there. I used to go to them for years and was always happy. Since they changed the owner and relocated, it's a completely different company. I would never again go to an "authorized" repair shop. They are properly titled "car dealers", because they are more interested in selling you a new car or a used car than repairing your old one.
It's the same with phone companies like Samsung and these places they call "Support Center" where you can walk in to get support and service on the device you already own, and they put up their latest "flagship" models on display and under your nose. That's how you know you're in the wrong place. It's all sell, sell, sell.

Make sure to get the needle-like test leads for it. This is needed for probing and measuring tiny components. The ones that came with my multimeter were very good, but they were not fit for the job, because they are not thin enough at the top. Most of the standard test leads have blunt tips. I ordered a pair from Amazon, a complete kit actually, but they are not very good. The whole kit was very cheap and I could not find any other, higher quality, more expensive ones. I don't want to promote Amazon, but I can post a link if you want.
A heat gun might work, but a hot air station is better. You need about 350 C to rework big components like BGA chips. Based on my limited knowledge, but extensive research. You should be able to tell what the temperature is at, and only the more expensive heat "guns" will have a temperature sensor and a digital display.
A service manual is a good resource. I wish I had a complete service manual for Galaxy S7. I looked for a places to buy one but I only found dodgy websites that seemed to be in the business of downloading free manuals, packaging, and selling. So if you have a complete manual, that's better. I only found excerpts of the most important chapters for Galaxy S7, and it has been very useful.
So, umm, there has been no progress on the repair front as I had been away on a trip and got my phone stolen
I was a bit occupied with reporting to the authorities and blocking my phone number hence I couldn't reply earlier.
Btw, I stumbled upon something called as boardview bitmap files; I'm yet to fully explore it but it seems really helpful.
