Almost full bars, no signal at all - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
So I got this unlocked Tmo Note 4, and the problem I have with it is that if it drops at least 1 bar of signal strenght I stop getting network signal, no phone calls, no data, no nothing. When it has full bars there's no problem at all, good call quality and data, but just loosing a tiny little lousy bar screws everything up.
When I got it it was on 4.4.4, I updated it, I did a full restore, nothing.
What could it be? A hardware failure? Software glitch?
Please help me!!

When you say you updated it, did you do an Over The Air update or did you flash through ODIN?

I did it through Kies

But I had the problem before I updated it tho

How'd you unlock it?
---------- Post added at 07:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:11 PM ----------
And what carrier are you using?

I don't know
When I got the phone it was already unlocked...
Could it be the modem?... I don't know much about this but I think I can use Odin to fix it if I know more or less what way to take
I'm using Nextel, in Mexico... It shouldn't be a problem, Tmobile phones work fine with them

Normally I would tell you to Odin to stock lollipop and do a factory reset, but I'm a little worried that might relock your phone.
Can you ask the place you got the phone how they unlocked it?
I suppose if odin'ing to stock + factory reset/data wipe did work, but your phone was locked you could pay for another unlock code.

HELP XDA! Phone Reboot's if using 3g Data

Hey,
My AT&T rooted nexus one is still randomly rebooting if I use 3g data. I am in Costa Rica and the 3g is on the 850 band. I also have to add the apn "kolbi3g".
So basically I can use the phone for anything and it works great, but if I add the apn and start using the 3g heavily I will get a reboot, sometimes it will reboot vibrate 7 times and I have to pull the battery. I have tried 2.1 and 2.2 rooted and not also cyanogen 6 all the same problem.
If I do *#*#4636#*#* and select the wcdma only it runs the 3g better but reboots way more, sometimes the instant I place load on the connection. However if I select wcdma "unkown" the 3g works much better I can use it sometimes 30min at a time without a problem.
So any ideas what I could try? Is there a kernel that will up the volt's a bit just help stability? Or anything else I could try? Data roaming is off, I have tried both off and on, no difference that I can tell.
Thanks a lot this is driving me crazy! Just got this phone Sunday too sick to my stomach of the thought I spend $600 on this phone if I can't get 3g to work
How about radio image???
It is currently on baseband 4.06.00.12_7. Is there a more current radio?
I came across this multiple reboot issue on a (locked) Vodafone UK Nexus.
It booted into the OS (lockscreen) and as soon as data connected it looped back to the last couple seconds of the animated Nexus logo.... and again.... and again.
I powered down the unit (battery pull), booted into bootloader (voldown+power) and selected clear storage (voldown, voldown, power) then (volup) to confirm.
This deletes the user data and you have to sign in and set up the phone again but it certainly fixed the issue. My only guess is some user data became corrupt and the kernel panicked and forced a partial reboot.
Give it a try and lemme know.

Just did that (had the phone plugged into wall charger), and the second I got to the home screen it rebooted then vibrated like 6 or seven times. Seems to do it worse when it is plugged in. And now it won't even boot up even after pulling the battery, it vibrates 6-7 times.
I am really worried about this, any other ideas??? I will try anything! Thanks for the help
Update! Now the phone just reboot when I do anything period with it plugged in. Just like posted in another thread on this section!
Please any ideas I am very desperate and very sick to my stomach!
Hmmm very strange.
I'm aware from what you were saying on the other thread that you've got an unlocked bootloader and you're wondering what to do on the warranty front.
If you've really tried different combinations of stock and custom firmware and having the same issue I'm tempted to say its a hardware issue.
Many people have returned their unlocked phones with no comeback from HTC some have reported that they have noticed the unlocked bootloader and have issued a motherboard repair as part of the fix because of this.
Although im unsure of the additional cost (if any) i would definitely recommend going through the warranty repair route with HTC. They won't say no and send you back the same broken phone. And who knows, if its a confirmed hardware issue they may just replace it as a goodwill gesture.
Other than that I don't have any more ideas.
A nexus support thread has a popular answer referring to the clear storage fix.
http://www.google.de/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=40f52d29e9c4177e&hl=en
Just make sure you are definitely clearing the storage FROM THE BOOTLOADER before calling HTC. It is the first thing they will make you do before accepting a return anyway.

Ok thank you so much sir. I am so glad to hear that I may still have a chance at getting it replaced! It was very fullish of me to unlock it, I know, it is just that I figured it was software and could be fixed by unlocking. It is going to cost me $$$ to get this to the States, but that is life. If I still can't get it to work I will call htc and let you know what they say
Little update here. I cleared storage again and just simply disabled data, I have been using the phone for a couple of hours on work without any problems. Next thong I am going yo yty is another friends 3g similar card and see if it still reboots on that sim, if it does then I am calling HTC.
Also still open to any other ideas you guys may have.

GS2-G regularly drops cellular network entirely AT&T

I've done some searching on this, but so far nobody's problem seems to match up with mine. Any help would be much appreciated!
I bought my wife and I both international Galaxy phones to use on AT&T's network. I have a Galaxy Note, and my wife has a GS2-G. My phone is super stable, but my wife's phone will regularly drop all cellular connectivity with no warning. About once a day or so, it just drops everything. Wifi will still connect, but the phone can't text, make calls, or get data. The signal bars are replaced with a circle with a slash through it. This doesn't happen when we're moving from cell to cell. It often happens while she's at work (in the same building all day), and this weekend it happened twice at home. We have great reception at our house, too.
Her phone is setup using the APN settings for a "medianet" phone, found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196118.
Otherwise, it's running stock 2.3.6 baseband XXKL4.
i am experiencing similar problems.losing signal totally without any hint.
not once a day but sometimes it happens to me also.
Sent from my GT-I9100G using XDA
i too have this problem. i too sit in the office the whole day. same spot. and this happens frequent enough to piss me off. i raised this issue several times in other discussions, and they keep saying its probably network issue or a faulty phone.
1. i use this same network on my previous phone (iphone), and its fine
2. i cant just send it for warranty cause they will keep the phone for a week or 2 to troubleshoot. so i dont want to be without the phone for that period of time without knowing for sure its a faulty phone.
since i see quite a few people going through and thanks to projectrally, i hope we can all narrow this problem down to what may be the cause, and take necessary action.
---------- Post added at 03:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:05 PM ----------
i have tried flashing diff roms, modems, kernels. i have disabled fast dormancy, and problem still persist.
Got this problem yesterday for the first time , I had to reboot.
When the problem occured, i tried to find network but the phone kept searching...
...
Same problem here! I think all we can do is wait for the ics update.
That should fix it...
P.S: It usually happens when im running low on battery...
im still not sure if its a software or hardware issue
yup i have the same prob to sometimes..after rebooting the phone it works jst fine.. but its quite annoying rebooting the phone when it happens
but it doesn't happen so often as u all described.. mayb once or most twice happens to me in a day ...
Maybe its a hardware problem, LG Optimus 3D has also this problem of "ghost calls" and have the same hardware (TI OMAP 4430)
After ICS update i am facing the same problem. Before i read this thread, i thought it is a software bug but now it seems to be a hardware problem.

Battery rapidly draining. Help!

Haven't yet found a solution to this online and hoping someone can help me out. Motorola Droid Turbo running 5.1. Phone was fine until just a couple days ago. The phone now gets really hot and the battery is rapidly draining, even if I'm not running anything and just have the phone on the table with the screen off. The only way to stop this I have found it to put it into airplane mode. When I look at the battery usage, it appears that "cellular network signal" is a solid red bar for the whole duration that the phone isn't in airplane mode. It's like there is an app that is constantly using cell service (this is whether or not I'm on wifi). Basically, the phone is behaving as if I'm on a phone call, nonstop. Tried killing apps, clearing cache, just did a factory reset, which I really didn't want to do, but even that didn't solve the problem. HELP!!!
TIA!!!

One day decided to downgrade to kitkat .

Every once in a while mine gets changed from not paying attention to a prompt about locations. In fact, I just had to change mine back again.

It seems that your radio is creating the problem. I think the best way is to re flash the Radio of your phone.
It seems the reduced battery timing is the result of heating of the phone which is generated by the processor (probably the baseband processor which controls the radio functions ).

If you are unlocked then manually flash the radio using twrp.
If you are locked than Google for Rsdlite.

I think it's more that the radio is constantly at full power trying to establish a connection, and it's particularly inefficient in that state. I was in a very rural area the other day and while it was determined that I was connected, it was voice-only with no data; the phone got quite warm, and pretty much stayed that way until I got back within decent range of a tower. Battery life was pretty terrible as well. Not a good phone to go far off the beaten path with, it seems...
If your cell signal level is a solid red line with no yellow bits, that means it's completely disconnected because it can't find a signal, and outside of airplane mode will continually "search" for it. Like Nido said, if you're not unlocked, you're going to have to flash a full firmware package in rsdlite. This'll get your radio firmware up to date (if it isn't already) and clean your modem stats (which I would bet is where your problem actually lies).
If you are SunShine-unlocked, you can flash the clean_modem_stats zip in TWRP and that should hopefully fix it.

Just to respond, I haven't taken any action yet. I did previously change the battery, but that didn't seem to solve the problem. Then yesterday the battery lasted at least 12 hours with modest use. Today, it's been on for 4 hours so far and battery is at 86% and the back feels cool. Now I'm totally stumped and not sure I'll do anything to rock the boat. However, it is having trouble connecting to wifi for some reason, so there's that... Not sure the issues are related...

You must have use some battery app to analyze the behaviour of battery during charging and discharging cycle n it will assist you to caught the real source of problem....
As for as i know wifi is also the part of Radio package. If replacing the battery do not resolve the issue than there is another bugg which has to be caught...

Hey all - anybody able to help? All the instructions I can find for flashing a radio involve a radio.img file, and there's not one in the package I downloaded above. I really don't want to brick my phone by experimenting - would greatly appreciate any advice as to how to flash this!

If you are taking about the clean modem file, it's not a radio. It's like a cache cleaner for your radio/modem.
Boot into TWRP recovery and go to "install". Flash the zipped file in "install" .
Thank you Chazz!! Just flashed it and so far phone is running cool as a cucumber. Will be out of town for the next four days so if this has fixed the problem, I will be the happiest dude in the world! Also, occasionally the phone has been *really* sluggish, taking forever to respond to key input, etc. - I'm thinking this may all be related. Looking forward to finding out!
Hey all - quick update. The radio cleanout appears to have helped some, but still every day I'm having to leave my phone on a charger just to make it through until I get home. I think it starts to "obsess" about something and it gets super hot; often I'll restart it in hopes it will "forget" whatever it was thinking about so hard and often it does. This is really crippling me - is there any chance a custom ROM would be any help? I'll try anything!
Here's a screenshot from just now - 53% and just 3 hours left!
I would be deeply grateful for your help! Only when our phones don't do what they normally do do we really understand how dependent we have become on them...

Phone freezes with black screen and have to hard reboot

I have only 2 days of warranty left on my phone so that makes things scary for me.
I recently got my motherboard changed but still have the same problem. No problem what ROM or kernel I use I get the same issue. I have been facing this since last 3 months and no solution till date. So please if you could just find some time please read on.
(Am posting the same text over a couple more threads as well in order to maximize the help I can get. So please forgive me for that.)
I currently have two sim cards:
BSNL: 2g and 3g coverage only
Jio 4g: only 4g coverage.
So I primarily use my data from Jio 4g but I recently also recharged my BSNL as well because of low data rates and also so that I can use more data per day. (They both have per day data plans).
When I use data from Jio sim, it uses the 4g network and hence the BSNL shifts to 2g only mode and I don't face any problems. But when I switch to BSNL sim for data, it jumps to 3g and the jio sim has no network because it only has 4g coverage and no 2g network. That's all expected. But that's the setup when I face problem in.
When am using my phone it runs smooth and every thing is perfect. But when I leave it aside for some time and come back to see it, it doesn't responds. There is only black screen. It doesn't responds to power button or the charging cable. It just sits like that. I have to hard restart the device by pressing the power button for like 15 seconds. And the phone eats battery while it was in that state of unresponsiveness. It occurs randomly. No phone calls or alarms ring while in that state and it eats a damn lot of battery.
I tried swapping sim slots but that does not changes anything. I switched places (and they were all at least 20 km apart).
But the strange thing is that when I swap either of the sim cards with any other 3rd company sim there is no problem whatsoever is the sim selected for the data. Also if I use the BSNL and JIO 4g one at a time(only one sim at a time) I don't face any problem even then. It only occurs when I use both of them together and that too when the data is turned on in BSNL. I have tried nearly everything I could. And now you are the only help left.
(And those who get annoyed by this post(s) please swallow in your anger as am already really broke as of now)
I will help you in any possible way I can.
Currenctly on stock OOS with locked bootloader but tell me and I'll move to your desired setup.
Update: i forgot to mention about logs. sorry for that. i know a little about taking adb logcat and i know that without logs no one would be actually help me out effectively. so please guide me on what kind of logs i need to get(logcat, radio logcat or kernel log). also since am not rooted adb will be the option for taking logs
Update2: adding latest radio logcat and a normal logcat as well. am giving another chance at taking a normal logcat again as last time i forget to export the logcat but instead made the CMD to display the logcat live in the window. Also while i was taking radio logcat i noticed that the phone's screen went black(and became unresponsive) at around 15:38 but the log shows it for only upto 15:35, hope i didn't missed something.
was unable to upload the files on xda hence uploading them to gdrive
Update3:took another log. this time also the log show last time as 16:10 but the phone went black at around 16:38. file is named logcat1.txt
Update4: ok i got another radio log. a proper one this time directly from cmd. maybe that's all i can do to help myself. i really need support now
Is your device in totally stock state? Stock oos stock recovery and bootloader locked? If yes then seems like hardware issue. If no then flash stock original oos whith stock recovery and check if problem is still there? If problem is still there submit your device to service center again.

With time so short, I think that invoking the warranty is best.
Don't take delivery of the repaired phone unless it is demonstrated to you at the service center that the issue is set right, even if you have sit there for a few hours waiting to see if the phone freezes. Otherwise, the next time they will claim that it is out of warranty.

Fir this phone the other forum is much more active.
What are your thoughts and experiences on the update so far? WiFi seems much faster battery seems just as good.
Just got the update yesterday myself. was excited to see that it was 7.1.1 but got annoyed fast that it broke my admittedly already broken Bluetooth. (wouldn't turn on) But after backing everything up and a little bit of stumbling through the "restore" part of a full reset everything is running great as far as i can tell. I like the new launcher but i don't like that I can't do away with the "most recent" apps thing at the top. i just don't use it and don't wan't it there if I'm not going to use it.
The update broke my phone. Hooray.
**edit** Ok, so updated the phone. I got an error saying Recovery was unreadable, booted in bootloader mode... Rebooted, same thing. Shut off the phone. It recommended to use Software repair from Verizon... So plug in the USB-C, fire up the phone... It boots up to the splash screen and freeezes... Then 10 minutes later, REBOOTS TO RECOVERY?!
So I try and do what I can in recovery, but to no avail. So I reboot it again... And let it go. It bootloops 4-5 times and eventually boots up! So I thought, cool. It's fixed. Nope! I reboot, and I'm back in phone limbo. Stupid POS. :\
So I factory reset... And now the phone is even more broken than before. YAY!!!! This is the worst update ever.

Stupid POS. :\

Remove your sim car tray before boot, guess the update doesn't like our CA network (had the same issue, but did it again when I plugged it to charge this after noon)

Do you have a spare sd sounds like it's going bad or needs to be formatted. If you can I'd wipe everything internal external and fresh install

Other threads say it's an issue with Samsung SD cards (Which I have). Whenever I boot without it, everything is fine... Problem is I still can't restore from the Software assistant app, all I can do is factory reset from recovery.
Anyone here have a Moto Z force Droid and has 7.1.1 installed? Also will need knowledge of using adb shell and linux command to dump partitions (dd). My phone is in dire need of help. :\ Thanks!

And for anyone who hasn't upgraded, can you use the method here to capture the OTA URL:

Did it fix the Bluetooth issue (what was your annyway?)
Me 2 since start of July, I got nothing but trouble with wireless... A very bad 2,4gz reception, no more 5gz visible, and no Bluetooth...
As for Verizon assistant, did you manage to make it work ? I think I'll give it a try...

After reading on Verizon website, I just realized that it takes up to a week after an update before you can use the assistant...
I also paid a premium for that samsung micro SD 128gb Evo... But also hope it can fix our z force droid Bluetooth issues...
Can't wait to see if the assistant can fix it (do you think a re-install without the SD card can change something ?)

Long trip to go across the border for Verizon... (I don't have a Verizon account) and Moto is a last resort if the software assistant can't fix my issue.
Anyone else noticing improved battery life after the update? I did a full factory reset after the update because it broke my Bluetooth but its been running great for me. Today might just be a fluke so ill keep a close eye over the next few days but so far it seems to be doing better with idle drain and drain with light usage.(web browsing, music, pictures, ect.)

I didn't get your luck, since the first small update in beginning of July, nothing but trouble, phone overheat (huge drain) reboots often (more drain) and weird unused app battery usage... Since August update, no improvement same thing...
I used to be able to make 2 days or a little more if I'm lucky... Now barely a day... ?
