Hi guys and gals,
Hopefully this hasn't been asked before, but, here goes:
I just got my N6 today and i wanted to put a custom rom on the device.. I've unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and got root, but everytime i try to flash a rom it give me this error:
this package supports bootloader(s) moto-apq8084-71.5 0x7105 moto-apq8084-71.08, 0x7108; this device has bootloader 0x7110
Any help is greatly appreciated.

What is the name of the rom you we`re trying to flash?
I've tried several. All failed with the exact same "error"

Isn`t 71.10 the latest besides the one from the M preview? Besides that its something i never experienced that a custom rom didn`t install because of the bootloader version.

latest, i have no clue, ill have to boot to the bootloader to look, but im using the m bootloader. i think either 5.0.1 or 5.1 had a new bootloader, that you had to flash to boot 5.0.1 or 5.1 roms. i had to install the m bootloader to boot m, or it wouldnt boot.
if the op just got his n6 today, it would probably still be on 5.0, so it makes sense that it needs to be updated.

Strange, my bootloader from LMY47Z (71.10) boots fine with Chroma for instance and even CM 12.1 isn`t a problem.

True, but OP states custom roms don`t boot with the 71.10 bootloader. That would be strange unless he is trying to flash a custom M based rom.

Right, the second preview is supposed to be released coming monday the 29th.
I'd be interested in what roms are being flashed that have an older boot loader dependency. Maybe they're stock based?
I've still got the original bootloader and flashing aosp 5.1.1 roma no issue

As long as you haven't installed a custom recovery to root your ROM, you should be able to install the OTA. If you have installed ClockworkMod or EXT4 recovery then do not attempt to install the OTA.

ARHD for Sense 3.0
Viruous Affinity for Sense 3.5
I've experienced no forced close or bugs in either ROMS.
I stuck with Viruous Affinity for the Sense 3.5 experience. I think Sense 3.5 is superior to Sense 3.0. Also the fonts in Sense 3.5 are smaller and better scaled, in Sense 3.0 everything look blown up.
In Viruous Affinity you also have a "ultrasmooth rosie" option which does stuff like disable the 3D effect in the HTC widgets but keeps 3D rotation. That option boost the fps in transistions A LOT.

The security warning usually means that the main_version value was incorrect for the OTA you are trying to run. Since the RUU for the OTA is out now, there isn't any reason you need to mess with the OTA any more. You can just go ahead and flash the 3.08.405.3 RUU.

I am currently running the 3-6 build of chroma which is the final 5.0.2 version. I am currently on baseband mdm9625_104335.118.02.55.03R and bootloader moto-apq8084-71.05.
I am wanting to try 5.1 roms like meanpop and chroma when its stable but i dont want to brick my nexus. I know meanpop says to flash the radio/firmware. Is that the radio and bootloader? Should i update my bootloader to 5.1? Should i go all the way back to stock everything and flash the new 5.1 update and start over? What can i do to keep from breaking my phone?
Not sure what they mean by "firmware". I'm guessing he means the radio still. Just flash ROM.zips and if you want, radios..

IME you should not attempt to downgrade either the bootloader or the partition table on a motorola phone. And you should make sure your bootloader is unlocked and USB debugging and OEM unlock are enabled b/f flashing.

if you are on a 5.0.2 rom, you can just try dirty flashing a 5.1 rom over what you have(make a nandroid backup in recovery first). if that doesnt work, you can restore your backup or wipe data and reflash. you dont need to flash stock first. i reflashed the lrx22c radio after trying the new radio. but im on tmobile and didnt receive calls while on lte, so i reflashed the older radio. btw, im using rastapop 5.1 at the moment(and dirty flashed over to it from android 5.0.2.

Nexus phones are actually very easy compared to Samsung. Rooting has nothing to do with flashing custom ROMs, you just need to unlock the bootloader. If the custom ROM is not pre-rooted you will have to do so after flashing and the instructions will vary based on the custom ROM you flashed.
Why in the newbie guide u need to root first. No, samsung is much easier and very hard to brick ur phone if u did flash it in a wrong way unlike in nexus.

Some custom ROM's come pre-rooted, meaning you don't have to do anything after installing the ROM to root the phone. Other custom ROM's are not pre-rooted so you have to root the ROM after installing it. As an example, the stock ROM is not pre-rooted so you need to follow the instructions in one of the many threads that explain how to root the stock ROM. It is nearly impossible to brick a Nexus phone as long as you have a custom recovery installed and the bootloader is unlocked.

The bootloader is already installed on your phone, it is part of the ROM. As far as unlocking the bootloader, here is one of may results returned when Googling "Unlock Nexus 6 Bootloader" You need to do some research on how to unlock, flash and root the Nexus 6, the information is there if you just search for it.

There's only two ways to brick your Nexus 6.
1. Disconnect cable while flashing bootloader.
2. Close bootloader after flashing all stock without checking if it boots.*
Other than that you can always boot into bootloader and do stuff.
* +1 That's recently happened to people: Everything is off, including Enable OEM Unlocking, and you receive a borked OTA. That happened to some people unfortunately.

CM13 works fine with Verizon on the xt1096. Your bootloader must be unlocked so that you can flash TWRP as your recovery. You will need to wipe Data and System in TWRP before flashing CM13, it can't be a dirty flash over the stock rom.

I used Sunshine back when I was on 5.0.

Ok well, Imy still unclear on CM installation: if the device has BL unlocked and running a stock MM, then I install twrp with fastboot (then rebbot to recovery), do I still need to root the stock firmware first (flash a modified kernel and SuperSU)?

No, you don't need to root the stock rom in order to install CM. CM will replace the stock rom.
Once you have TWRP installed, the first thing you want to do is make a TWRP backup, preferably to a USB-OTG drive. Then, you can always restore that backup if something goes wrong. Once you have that backup, you can try rooting the stock rom (only if you want to try it) and if you don't like it, restore the backup. Don't let TWRP do the rooting for you, use TWRP to install the SuperSU using the latest SuperSU for Marshmallow zip file.
To try CM you will have to wipe your phone system and data (not internal storage where your pictures, etc. are stored.) You can then install CM13 and if you don't like it, restore the backup to return to the stock.
Good news, the unlocked bootloader is out! Anyone have troubles with cm13
