[Q] Higher ram usage on 5.1.x than 5.0.x? - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My current rom is stock 5.0.2 rom.. Right after boot, RAM used by system is around 190MB..
Then I flashed a completely AOSP 5.1 rom (not CM12, AOKP, PAC, AOKP, etc) and RAM used by system is almost 350MB with no GApps installed..
Finally I tried Slim rom (maybe it had some optimizations) with no GApps and had the same issue..
Does 5.1 actually use more RAM than 5.0?
Is there any way to reduce system RAM usage to less than 200MB (just as 5.0)?
Finally, if there is no way to fix this, can anyone provide a working link to download last CM12 (not CM12.1)? Official link is broken

Ok, thanks for the info!

so? what info?

Need a trully stable rom. Any idea?

Hi. Im trying many roms on our n7000 but ewery time i find any bugs and FC. Thats why I wana ask u guys about trully stable rom. Now im using miui veganence. Before that i have dirty unicorns and carbon rom or sweet rom. Even cm 11. All of this is slow for me and have small free ram like 160 - 80 mb.
I hope u can help me try some faster roms. Maybe something older?
PS sorry for my eng

You can try CM 10.1.3 or CM 9 if you want a Custom Rom.
For a Stock Rom I can suggest AryaROM v8 with some nice new Raw v1 Custom cernel from GeeckoDev

what do you think about CarbonRom? i just flashed it but got some errors, but i want to figure it out cause i think this ROM is pretty light and smooth.. (from the review i read)
It's a hit and miss actually IMO. I found CarbonROM to be pretty stable for me. You just have to try i guess, because finding a "truly, perfectly stable" ROM is impossible. Every ROM has its ups and downs, so does with the bugs and stability. Choose which ROM suits you best, and try them for some time. If it crashes/you suddenly hate it etc. then find another ROM or maybe another version of the former ROM. Trust me, It's a bit of pain in the arse at first but it's worth it in the end.
ICS is old and it's not smooth like newer versions like jb and kitkat.
CM10.1 is smooth but drains battery fast.
CM11 is the best but it's buggy (fc, random reboots...etc)
so my advice is to stick to jb 4.1.2 (stock or custom) until we get a stable lollipop (hope this will happen soon)

What makes you believe there will ever be a stable lollipop for the Note?
So much time has passed since the release of KK and AFAIK there is still no stable KK ROM for this device.

because bauner's CM12 even it is still in alpha stage, there is no overheating, graphic glitch, force-close (well, there is few but due to some apps that didn't get updated to fully support android L) and random reboots, and because Lollipop is a "true" update from Google since 2011, so don't expect that Google was playing all these years and only changed the UI and added some fonts there is about 5000 change/update in the SDK so android lollipop for sure will support even low end phones with 512MB of ram and new apps will have a ton of features.
I know that the Exynos motherboard for the SII and N7000 is a real Crap from Samsung but at least those issues related to it, if not fixed they will at least be reduced like the overheat issue still persist but not as bad as in KK.
Or maybe it's Google+Samsung fault which made it impossible to have stable kk for our device

Cool story bro.

which ROM should i take ?

Hi all, i tried several ROMs but my Galaxy S1 remained totally useless because it is so unbelievable slow respectively sluggish. But i heard the S1 is still able to surf on the web or using Facebook.
Therefore i am asking you which ROM i should try for good performance and also good app compatibility (cant install most of my Apps on Android 2 ).
I know your feeling
I tried the latest officials, the CM7, 9, 11, 12, ICS, JB, KK, even LP, only made it worse
I decided to buy a new phone
Then I tried this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2568363
Now the new phone is going back to the shop
Make sure you wipe system, cache, data, even internal sdcard, before flashing (I used an external card to hold the zips)
Tell me what you think
Try mackay ics rom. You'll see the HUGE performance difference when compared to kitkat and lollipop (kitkat and lollipop is slow compared to ics).

I've heard that slimkat had a battery draining issue or some sort of issue that affected the usage of the phone (but I heard this a while ago when I was still using the sgs). Yes, I meant it is faster than Mackay kk. It terms of smoothness, KitKat is better. But in terms of stability, snappiness and gaming, ICS is better. It's all personal preference.

For that, most ROMS are fine

I might just add on to your comment.
When using jellybean, 4.3 and 4.2 roms uses a lot of ram. The phone's LMK will struggle to keep up with the system demands. 4.1.2 jellybean is definitely the lightest out of the 3.
I'm testing slimbean (4.2.2 build 8) too on my s1 and it is working well. I'm running it with devil kernel and its really fast (almost on par with mackay ics 2014).
Lollipop and kitkat are by far the heaviest versions of android. I think the ram management is better but it is still too slow for our old device.
regards, gsstudios
I am on omni 4.4.4 final official with DomnesuKernel_galaxys_v1.16.1
Working well with 417mb ram and 720p support. It faster and use alot apps
Its good in kk rom
In my opinion omni is the best stable rom i have ever seen
You can also try AICP By Domnesu.
---------- Post added at 03:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:25 PM ----------
Lollipop is ram eating so much and also the battery is bad too
In lollipop roms .
Coderom is more stable and fast than other lollipop roms
Also you can try iyahman's omni builds. It supports bigmem..
But not much fast after some use

[ROM][Final][CM11 with Bugfixes]NightOwl-CM11 20151004

By working on my NightOwl Lollipop Rom for the GT-N7000 I found many Bugs which also exists in the official CM11 nightly's.
Because of many users want to stay on KitKat I have made a final CM11 version with many Bugfixes
Code:
Use my Roms only if you are sure about the risks of flashing custom Roms/Kernel to your device. I'm is not responsible for any damage caused by using one of my files.
Changes/Fixes to official CM11:
20151004:
This version fixes the not working Wifi Hotspot in the 20150909 version
-Fixed a wifi tethering configuration problem
-Updated Wifi drivers
-A few smaller kernel updates
20150909:
Based on the latest cm11 sources with the stagefright patch
Use my kernel based on the stock samsung JB source with many updates (because the smdk4412 seems to be the reason for the random freezes and reboots)
The kernel is built with GCC 4.4.3 for stability reasons
Added extra free kbytes to reduce direct reclaim
Added trim support
Fixed a bug that the cpu would never go below 500Mhz after recording a (HD) video which caused heating and battery drain
Fixed a bug which causes that the thermal management could fail in some conditions (This can cause device heating and can damage the device in the worst case)
Fixed some videos will only play audio
Fixed the permission problems if the sdcard is ext4 formated (but you should use vfat!)
Updated power_profiles
Fine tuned lmk values
Fine tuned dalvik settings
Enabled multithreaded dexopt
Use ROW as default I/O scheduler
Removed cm updater
Do not mount the unsused preload partition
Switched to Philz recovery which can handle cwm and twrp backups
NightOwl bootanimation
How to Install:
If you are running a custom Kitkat 4.4 Rom:
1. Copy Rom + Google Apps to your sdcard.
2. Boot into recovery
3. Factory Reset + Format the /system partition
4. Flash the Rom and Gapps.
5. Reboot
The steps to install it from an stock samsung rom are:
If you have already an samsung 4.1.x running you can skip step 1
1.flash N7000ZSLR1_N7000OZSLR1_BRI (or any other other 4.1.2) stock rom using odin
2.Copy Rom + Google Apps to your sdcard.
3.flash PhilZ-cwm6-XXLT6-XSA-5.06.1.tar.md5 (http://d-h.st/OTu) to get cwm recovery by using odin or mobile odin (To download click the blue Download now button)
4. boot into recovery
5. flash this kernel https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95887005526788121 to get an updated cwm recovery
(this step will make your old rom unbootable stuck in the n7000 screen but you can boot into recovery with press and hold "home" and "volume+" buttons and power on your phone)
6. you need to reboot! your device now to recovery
7. you are now in the updated recovery and you can now install the rom and gapps and do a factory reset
8. Reboot

The kernel supports zRam but it is not enabled in the rom.
If you want to enable it you need to do it yourself.
I don't know if the kernel will work on omni 4.4.4. If you want to try it you should backup the rom in the recovery
Woow, that's great!! I will try next week after i do an exam.
Thanks for your work @bauner.

Thanks bauner for supporting this now legendary Note .. downloading now ...
This will be my new daily driver! It is fast, stable, smooth and has a great battery backup like TW based roms have. Didn't find any bugs. Thanks, i love it!
Like @j4m said this rom has great batter backup for more than one hour screen off time with wifi on battery hasn't gone even 1% down and that's awesome. @bauner do you think you can implement battery saving mode on this rom ?
Can i pulled down the status bar in fullscreen apps in this rom ?

I will not add more features to this rom. It is a stock cm11 rom with many fixes for the n7000 but without new functions.
But you can enable the battery saving mode in settings-battery

Anyway since all you were going to do was fix those bugs from your nightowl cm12 rom well you've successfully done that and I cannot thank you enough for this Btw this rom has a better screen off time than cm12 do you know how this is possible ?

Kitkat is a bit more battery friendly...
I'm currently have running lollipop running again on my device... But I mean that there is a battery saving toggle in the battery settings in cm11 but it will be only availible if the device is not connected to the charger or usb
The best rom for n7000 I ever use. Very fast and I dirty install it over cm11. Battery life I will see in next hours/days.

You are right it is not present. I meaned that I have seen it in cm11 but maybe it was another kitkat rom.
I will not add new features to this rom. I will only provide one real stable stock like cm11 for the n7000 (Maybe another one too if I find more bugs in lollipop development which exists in cm11 too)

That is a very good idea. Everyone can install apps for example DU Battery Saver or other.
This rom -so as it is- now my best for n7000.
You can use this Xposed module , it has that low battery function. The Stamina mode is good too, those who have owned an Xperia will know.

A Good KitKat (4.4) Rom for XSP ???

I've been using CM12 Sabermod for a few months now but lately my phone has started to lag a lot, I've experience the same problems with other Lollipop based ROMs too. I never had this problem in 4.3 but I had to move to 5.1 since some apps that I use daily required KitKat or higher.
So my question is - is there any good KitKat ROM for XSP? If yes, how can I get the best performance for multitasking?
Before change to KK, I should ask: Do you already flash the most recent build?
Another is: Have yout try move apps to SD card?
Another one: Try to clean Cache on the Settings -> Storage (and then Reboot)?
And Clean cache of some apps too manually.
Remembering that to flash a the most recent build, you doesnt need to Backup, BUT... Just for convenience do it.
If none of those above options function well for you, indeed there is a stable and fast KK to our lovely (and hated) SP.
Options I recommend: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64991746&postcount=1320
Or
Last release from CM Team
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=huashan&type=snapshot
Both are great in performance and multitask like the JB 4.3 Stock.
Is there a good one which has Stock features? As in it has the basic Sony apps. They were quite nifty.

I can recommend snapshot KK too which im using right now http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=huashan&type=snapshot with kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2764939
Another good one was http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...anogenmod-11-locked-bootloader-users-t2868398 before I unlocked bootloader.
I havent tried CM13 but cm12.1 never worked out for me properly, either low amount of ram/no deep sleep or other problems such as wifi.
Ok I'll try them out. But I'm looking for something based on the Xperia stock OS.

Hi, a clean wipe should be enough. I did factory reset / wipe data, format system, cache and data, wipe dalvik, then install in that order:
OmniX-Rom, recommended gapps, SU-update. Please confirm to fix super user when asked, then reboot into system. First boot will take some minutes (less than 5).
Which recovery do you recommend I flash for this?

I would try that rom if the led bar was working exactly as it does in the stock firmwares (you know, receiving phone calls, viewing images, making a call etc.). There isn't a way to duplicate that functionality level since it's cyanogenmod-based, right?

Need help with the new rom

I am thinking to shift from my stock rom to a new custom rom, there are two choices
its either cm 13 or resurrection remix m for xperia zr
but the problem is the cm 13 builds are still nightly and not stable, will it be safe to flash it because i dont want to revert back
and resurrection team also hasnt mentioned that the latest build is stable and dosent has any bugs
i wanted you guys to suggest me on this or a good stable custom rom for marshmellow
without any bugs since i want to do this once and for all
thanks in advance

2 hour and 10min!!! But it took me at least 3 hours to full charge with original charger. Battery is new too..Well,you can use customized ZR LP then. It's stable too.I don't know how many app do you use but 4 gb is enough with folder mount if you install many games.
