Hello,
I hope someone can help me resolve the issue i face with my kindle fire hd 7
The device was not rooted, and no parental password was set. The only protection was set is screen pin
The device was unused for several months, so the battery got completely discharged. Now I charged the device and booted it. And all I get is a big lock on the screen, a line where i can put the code, and it says "Enter your boot password", and the keyboard below it.
Needless to say I do not have a boot password. I tried resolving the issue following Amazon instructions to get to factory reset by entering the code 5 times, but i do not get a factory reset prompt.
Tried to get into factory reset boot by pressing Volume Down and Power buttons, it did not work at first. But at the end I got a screen with an triangle and exclamation mark in it, and a message saying the device is unable to boot. There were two options: Reboot device, and reset to factory settings. I selected the reset to factory settings, and the device gave me a second screen with bunch of No and one Yes
I selected Yes, and pressed Power button. So the device was rebooting with a message KindleFire and a line under it for about 5 minutes, and at the end it went back to the huge Lock screen with the prompt to enter boot password.
Amazon support were completely helpless. I spoke with 3 tech people there, neither know what to do. They keeps saying Kindle does not have boot password. So I am quite lost here and will appreciate any help
Thanks
I spoke with Amazon again, now they are claiming my Kindle is rooted, and that it is asking for boot password because a different BIOS was installed. I don't see how it is possible, there were only a few books on that kindle and it was not even connected to the network. I get the feeling Amazon has no clue what is going on and just want to get rid of me and my pesky issue.
I'd like to entertain the possibility of the device being rooted. Is it possible to overload a default Kindle version somehow?
In order for your device to work, you must perform a factory reset from recovery mode. It is a little bit tricky, but it will work. So, let's get started:
In order to get into recovery mode, you need to do the following keys combinations:
Push Power button + volume down key until you see the kindle logo. As soon as it appears, take your hand of the power butoon and quickly push twice the volume down button. After that, hold the volume down button pushed and your device will boot in recovery mode. Please take notice, that you need to do these steps fairly quickly in order for it to work. Then you need to select factory reset and yes. That's all.
Didn't work for me, still asking for boot password.

any luck?
has anyone managed to fix this issue as i have a kindle fire 7 hd 2013 soho with the same issue, have a fastboot cable but havent had any joy fixing it, have tried firerooter and a few other commands.
Once your kindle fire gets the Enter Boot Password, it is toast. You have a brick on your hands. Amazon support cannot help you, and a factory reset does not work. It's an internal flaw or error, and sadly, Amazon does not address this publicly. If your Kindle fire is not under warranty, the best they can offer is a discount (and not a very deep one) on your next kindle.
i have a Kindle Fire 7 HD that is trash now because it is asking for the Boot Password and of course Amazon is saying too bad...i am trying to find the notebook app i had on it to see if i can recover it on my other android tablet....does anyone know the name of the notebook app that was in this kindle fire 7 hd?

I just got a Kindle Fire HD which Im planning to give away as a gift to a friend. But I need to boot it and write a review on my website before giving it. So, how can I make it look like I never switched it on?
When we boot the tablet, it'll give us a setup wizard. After resetting, we will get to the setup wizard again. My question is, how to power off the tablet without following the setup and will it show the setup when I power it again?

AFAIK - when you deregister the device (available in the control settings... ) and then do a factory reset then you get back to a clean device.
just hold the power button down for 5-10 seconds and it should shut off and not fire back up until you hit the power button again...
Hi, I could use any help or advice you guys might have to offer, the problem (at first) seemed to be just a bootloop - I am able to get the device to boot by connecting the device to the computer then disconnecting and reconnecting the kindle battery ( usually works 1 in 7 times ) .. I have tried a factory reset through the device menu which completes without issues but once the power button is pressed (tapped or held) the device freezes and then starts the bootloop again. I have been able to use adb to get the device into the recovery menu but trying to recover this way starts the boot loop again, possibly because the power button has to be pressed to confirm the option.
edit: forgot to mention that when the power button is tapped it asks if I want to power off - it doesn't just turn the screen off (I'm not sure if this is normal or not)
I'm unsure what to do at this stage, so any advice would be gratefully welcome.
helpful info:

I have been having problems opening my device for months now because the power button isn't working anymore for me. So when I open my Kindle I just usually plug the charger. Then one day, I don't know what happened, when I opened my device it was so slow and the launcher (original) is always not responding. So when I finally manage to go to Settings > Device > Restore Factory settings... my account was deregistered and I waited for it to reboot. When it did, it was the same. I didn't think that the Reset settings I did, worked. My power button is broken, right? So what I did next, I opened the back case of the device and tried to push the power button with a pin, then all of a sudden it restarted and ended up being stuck with the Kindle Fire logo. Anyone could help me with this problem? I'm still hoping that it could still be fixed. Please reply, any help would be much appreciated. (My KFHD is the first gen btw)
and I couldn't reboot again the device, it's still stuck with the logo
Hi - I won a Kindle Fire as a prize and the owner deregistered it before she sent it to me. She has done the deregistration process several times, but when I turn on the Kindle, it takes me to a Set Lock Screen (PIN required) page. I can then get to a "Verify Your Account, sign in to continue" page, but it has her name (and via settings, her 2 sons names). I can't do anything from here.
I have tried to turn off by holding the off button for 20 seconds but that doesn't help at all.
Any suggestions?

See if you can access the recovery environment by pressing the two outside buttons simultaneously from a full power-off state. A factory reset can be performed from there.

I was given an old Kindle Fire HD 7" 3rd Generation KFSOWI - Soho completely stock and was playing with it a bit and decided to try the KingRoot app (NOT KingORoot). It was going along and got to 35% then said it failed and asked if I wanted to try again. I clicked try again. Thats when everything went downhill. It rebooted on its own then displayed the all white Kindle Fire logo then moved to the brighter white and orange logo with the glimmer moving across the screen. There it stays now. It wont go any further.
I have tried to use Vol - and PWR with it turned off to try to get to Recovery or Vol + and PWR for Fastboot but after the all white logo it just shuts off. Its as if the recovery utility is no longer there.
I do have a Fastboot/Factory cable I made a while ago and when I plug that in it does get to Fastboot mode. However in ADB on my desktop it wont see it there. If I plug in a standard USB cable to the Kindle and let it go to the white n orange logo then ADB will see it and brings up the Serial number but instead of saying "device" it says "unauthorized".
I am seriously at a loss right now as I have been googling to to fix this since it happened and all the ready made utilities are for other generation devices.
I have tried the usual holding the power button for 60 seconds to turn it off and then try turning it back on but nothing works.
Im just not sure what can be done with I cant get to recovery and ADB either wont see it or says its unauthorized.
PLEASE HELP!

Classic FireOS boot hang. Tough to fix on older (pre 5th gen) devices that do not offer a way to reload FireOS from stock recovery.
Unfortunately, this is not the correct forum for your device (this thread is for 5th & 7th gen Fire 7). You'll want to repost your question here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hd
