I've xt1060 and it is rooted on 4.4.2
I installed sunshine app but it demands me 25$ after compatibility test. But i can't give them 25$ i can't afford it. So tell me another way to unlock bootloader.

Spend $25 or buy a developer edition, only 2 ways

Save up and do it, it's worth it. What ever you do don't update to 4.4.4 till then!
Also, if you can't afford $25 to unlock the phone, you can't afford to be modifying the phone. What would you do if the phone bricked and turned into a paperweight?

Also, wth would the difference be at this point if they would both retain moto x features lol. I believe that is what I'm doing especially at&t and they're bootloader locking stuff. Just not sure which version and which one comes out first.

i might be waiting. I'll be considering the phone but am going to have to pay full price off contract. So if I'm going to do that, I might as well get the developer edition. However, I would really like to order the phone on opening day, so I'm hoping the Developer edition comes out same day.

I hear you, same with me. I'd have to buy off contract either way and dont feel at&t needs more of my money. But you say developer edition which would most likely be on the Motorola website? What about the Google edition version that is rumored to come out? Aren't these the same companies, why make it so confusing lol.
It would be nice to have some idea of how long we have to wait......
I defently waiting. Want my unlocked bootloader...I dont want to wait to see if someone can unlock the regular bootloader. I am on Verizon...so I also need to pay full price to keep my unlimited data

Price is what will decide it for me.
I am considering the purchase of a Developer Edition phone only because of the price of it. I am thinking it would be cheaper to purchase it from Google than it would be to buy it off contract from the carrier. But if it is the same price then I will just get it from my carrier. The colour designing of it isnt important to me.
News should come out in a few days about dev edition availability. I'm not getting the at&t one I don't think. I'm already hearing all the complaints about their annoying phone book software, and their locked BL.

The address book software doesn't get in the way. Usually it pops up on phones like the One, but on the X, I haven't seen it yet.

I'm definitely waiting for a developer unlocked edition. Don't want carrier bloat and waiting for bootloader unlock and random issues.
I'll likely return mine that I bought at AT&T when a dev edition is out or news of one. I forget how much I HATE the carrier having more control over my device than me.

Yeah...if not I'm just gonna go with the Motomaker version and unlock the bootloader another way which probably has been done already.
So what's the chance of Verizon getting an unlocked developers edition?
What was the last phone Verizon allowed unlocked out of the box on their network?
compatibility with theoretical future unlocked stock?
Question: Let's say in the future some brilliant dev-type finds a root & bootloader unlock exploit for the non-dev edition of the VZW Moto X. Would ROMs developed for that phone (the rooted/unlocked VZW stock Moto X) be compatible with the Dev Edition? Does anyone know how this has worked with previous Dev Editions?
I'm just wondering in the situation described above, whether the people who shelled out for Dev Edition early on could find themselves with a much smaller mod/dev community to draw upon than people who wait around for a potential (but maybe never coming) future unlock of the device. Would the two VZW versions of the Moto X (Dev and stock) be essentially the same device aside from bootloader, and therefore have compatibility?
I know this is all conjecture until we see an actual Dev Edition on VZW (which might not happen) but I'd be interested in thoughts.
Roms would work on both developer and regular version. One plus would be 32 GB . im hoping Verizon will get developer with the extra storage.

Well with current rumors pegging it at around $500+, I sense this phone failing commercially.
It's just too much money.
I get Moto wants this to be their "iPhone" but if you wanted to massively pull the rug out from under their feet, you would stick this thing's non contract price around the rumors for the 5C price, which is $300-$400.

Having been an AT&T customer for over 10 years now, I wanted to take my recently purchased Galaxy Note 3 on a trip to Europe, therefore, I wanted to unlock it. I called AT&T and was told (basically) that my phone can't be unlocked except after the 2 year contract period expires. Oh yeah! Forget AT&T...I'm on my own. Anyone have ideas on how to do an unlock on an AT&T Note 3 reliably?
You can try region lock away by chainfire. You have to be rooted for it to work. Good luck.

I agree with the OP. I do not believe that carriers should have any influence or say so when it comes to phones. Why do they need to control them? Like with updates for example. What a nightmare. Why does phone phone have to be locked to them. I'm paying them for service only. UGH.
Chainfire's unlock works on M19 build and baseband. If you are on MJ5, you need to restore with a M19 build / MJ5 baseband and then root, then apply the unlock.
If you don't want to root, the only option is to purchase unlock code.

Your not paying just for just service. When you get the phone on 2 year plan every month you paying a payment on that phone every month. That's why your bill so high. People don't realize it.

If you don't want to have to worry about any of that then buy the phone out right and don't do a 2 year contract it like buy a car on credit you don't fully own it till you pay it off. On top of that if you don't like waiting for updates and stuff buy an unlocked Un carrier branded phone and get the update when they come out.

I unlocked mine via a website. Cost me $30 but worked just fine. I am in the UK right now and using my note 3 with a pay as you go sim. I tried the region lock away here on xda but the sim was still locked.
Like you I was so mad when AT&T told me they no longer provide unlock codes. Once my contract expires I am done with them.
Hope this helps. Cheers.

Just pay one of the many websites out there $30ish to get an unlock code based on the IMEI number. I did it with my AT&T N3 within a week of buying it and it works great Internationally.
I understand it costs money and people assume it should be free but it's a minimal amount of money not to have to deal with AT&T's bone head customer service.

All carriers are like this from my experience. Keeping the phone locked is the only form of inconvenience they can put on people who do not want to honor their contracts and steal the phone. I called AT&T 2 months after I got my Note 3 on contract to unlock and they told me the buy-out price was 198.00.
Hey did a search and didn't find an answer, or at least didn't see it.
So if you get your N6 from a carrier (except VZW cause they don't offer) and unlock the bootloader does that void insurance or warranty?

depends on your carriers rules. most likely it does void your warranty.
Not really sure it applies to insurance I jumped into the pool with my last phone while drunk . The phone still booted was unlocked and on Verizon ...they still sent me a new one .
I am also running my N6 on Verizon currently. It stayed locked for like 12 hours until I remembered all the reasons I run a rooted phone; ad blocker, back up, customization.

Hey everybody looked around and could not find anything recent. Looking for a fast response here to ill get right to it, I'm planning on getting a new phone. i was looking at the Moto x (2014) version, but i want it to be unlock able or at least rootable. I do not mind paying a couple bucks for a software to unlock or root it just want to know if there is any way it can be done. Thanks!
Then you are on the wrong network. Can't unlock and partial root is 20.00. Get a N6 if you wanna be flash happy on VZW

I'm really turned on by an eBay deal on a used (but refurbished) Verizon unlocked Moto X for 180$. But I guess there are a few things no one's telling me when buying this device...
I can think of the following:
1. Battery already worn out
2. Unable to unlock the bootloader & root the device
3. Unable to use some of the functions (heard about USB tethering doesn't work?!)
I'd be happy to hear from you what's indeed true and what's not, and other possible drawbacks. Also, I live outside the US if that matters.
Thanks, and hopefully this will help others looking at this apparently popular deal.
The MX battery was never great to begin with, but after a year it should still be at least 85-90% effective. J wouldn't worry about that.
The Verizon MX has no bl unlock, sorry. There is a very convoluted root process which only works with 5.0 and earlier.

There is a BL unlock available for the XT1096. An updated version of Sunshine was released that will unlock the Moto X 2014 as long as it has never been updated past 5.0. Technically it would work on 5.1 but it needs root and no root is available for 5.1.

Sounds risky to buy a phone without knowing what version it has and if unlocking will be successful, especially if there's no easy way for me to return the device.
I think I'll search for the pure edition after all.
There isn't a Pure version of the 2014 X that is compatible with Verizon's network.
