just upgraded to 5.1 (love it so far) and I don't see any notifications at all on the lock screen.
I made sure it was set to "show all notification content", I've also set the individual apps to be priorities.
I'm used to getting the music player on the lock screen as well, but I get nothing.
I made sure the moto display was all turned off in case it was interfering.
Anything else I can check? I really miss the music player, and not getting anything on the lock screen is a pain.
Thanks!

On the Verizon Droid Turbo with the soak test?
Any issues with the soak test should be reported on Motorola's Forum so they can look into causes and fix it.
Quick question, are you waving your hand over the front to get to the lock screen, or are you pressing the power button. I've noticed that I have to press the power button to see active notifications. Hope this helps.

yes, I did report it there as well, but have not heard anything yet. This community tends to be very smart and quick to have answers, so I'm reaching out here as well. I'm not sharing any info about the test or the code, just something I'm experiencing, so I'm not out of line for the soak.

Not saying you are out of line, but there aren't going to be too many people here with 5.1 that can help,, and Moto needs to know of any issues.
It is probably related to the new Ambient Display. The following is from the 5.1 release notes:
Moto Display and Ambient Display
While your phone’s display is off, Moto Display will continue to surface relevant notifications to you using the low-power Contextual Computing Processor. It will also intelligently react when you use the Approach gesture under Moto Actions.
Android Lollipop also includes a similar feature, called Ambient Display, that displays notifications like those shown on the lockscreen. If you prefer to try the new Ambient Display feature, you can uncheck the Moto Display setting in the Moto app. Note: Ambient Display does not use Motorola’s low-power core and will turn on more of the display, so battery life may be impacted. The Moto Actions Approach gesture will not wake Ambient Display.

Maybe try switching to the Moto Display mode instead. That is all the advice I can give as I am still on 4.4.4

Spot on, not for the right answer, but for asking the right question. Even though you asked it tailed with "this maybe a dumb question", but it was the one that would have solved the problem from the beginning.
I've learned something today (southpark style), ask the right questions even if you think they're dumb, and the most obvious reasons are most likely the right reasons.
Had to get this wisdom out of my system :silly:

Tried it, that's not what I'm looking for. I don't want it to wake up the screen on its own. When I power button unlock (to lockscreen) I want the music player or the notifications. I currently only get the pattern to unlock.

1 - turned on the moto version, it gave me the moto notifications while it was locked (black screen with little white icon for a second) .. so hat works, but it's not what i'm talking about

+1 try wiping cache, if it doesn't work, I am afraid a factory reset might be needed, which I usually do after each major update. The update app optimisation usually causes more problems especially when migrating apps to use ART.

when you hit the settings button in the upper-right of the notification bar, you get a quick list of things like wifi, BT, etc. to disable/enable any of them, just long press (long press BT, turns on/off BT).

i'm still confused. thousands of icons? do you need something additional from the standard five? i've used the power toggle widget since 2.x but ever since they added those same settings to the notification bar, the widget isn't necessary.

What I meant is:
on Galaxy S2, I just had what I needed on the curtain, which was wireless, mobile data, sync, rotation and few other things. That was enough. 1 line of icons.
Now on moto x I have pull the curtain, click on top right icon leading me to almost a screen full of icons and missing the auto rotate, when just a ribbon/line was enough.
On Galaxy S2 (ICS/JB) is very short, in the 3rd picture you've shown, it almost like visual pollution to me. the 2nd is more the way I like it.

you can use gesture controls in third party launchers to go directly to toggles. I use Nova Launcher and have it set so that when I double tap the screen the toggles open. you can assign other gestures instead if you wish. Have a single finger swipe down open notification shade, two finger swipe down for toggles for example. If you're rooted, you can use gravity box to change which tiles are displayed and in which order.

Ok, here is your answer:
Open Dynamic Notification, click advanced options. Now click advanced options in the drop down menu.
UNCHECK "Use Immersive mode"
The status bar will probably show, but problem solved. Its immersive mode that causes the message to appear.
Any app that uses immersive mode will trigger the pop-up.

I don't think its the apps issue...more like a 'bug' in android. Not sure if I would even call it a bug...there just isn't any option anywhere to turn off the immersive mode "swipe down" messages. I imagine it was intentional....cause you just know that 10,000 people would call in to tech support saying they're stuck in full screen and can't get out.
I guess this is one advantage active display has over dynamic notification....that and power saving. AD doesn't actually wake your phone...one of the co-processors in the "X8" system is able to provide the notifications while sipping battery power.

I was wondering if any one knew of an app that would blink the capacitive home screen button when you have a notification. I have looked around on the play store to no avail. I have never developed anything for android. I have got myself setup to begin designing an app that will basically turn the home button into a notification light while the screen is off. If you could update with what it was that you found usefull that would be great. Thanks. I am looking for anything close to posibly even take ideas from.
It shows a small icon on the screen for different notifications, which if I remember correctly are all customizable. So it's a persistent icon on the screen letting you know about missed calls, texts, unread emails, or whatever you set it up for. It only uses a tiny amount of screen, and therefore backlight. Back when the Android phones first came out a lot of them didn't have leds for notifications. I don't remember having a big hit on my battery at the time from the program.

Ill have to check it out. I have used a few like that and they didn't act right, made the screen act weird. Thanks for the suggestion.

Just got this watch (previously had Moto 360 1st Gen).
One feature that I got used to and liked was that when the watch was docked, it would change the face to a dock night mode clock.
I noticed that when I docked the watch, it would show a new face too. However, the face would fade to Black after some time.
Is there a way to keep this on while charging? I tried enabling the "always on" feature, but to no avail.

But maybe it is watch face shift in every situation not only with always on screen...
I tried using Alarm clock Xtreme and Timely and both have the same problem: the alarm screen does not appear if the phone is locked. Instead, I see a tiny notification which I have to double tap before getting access to the the Snooze / Dismiss screen. Needless to say, I don't want to be chasing around a small area on the screen when I'm sleepy
For some reason I can't even take a screen capture, so I hope I managed to explain clearly enough the problem.
Is there any way to use a different clock than the preinstalled one? Seems like a no brainer, but it got me stumped.
Thank you for any suggestions.
I use sleep for android and don't have this problem. The snooze button and dismiss show up and do not require me to unlock the phone. I use an nfc card ass the dismiss for my morning alarm and that does require me to unlock the phone first before scanning but I can snooze and dismiss all other alarms no problem. Maybe try sleep for android.

I tried blocking notifications, turning notifications off, hiding notifications. I also tried changing my lockscreen to swipe. I wasn't able to reproduce your issue. If I hit the home button while the alarm was going off I would have to unlock the phone before I could snooze or dismiss it. Even then though the snooze/dismiss screen would pop right back up. Sorry could not help more.
I'm using alarm clock plus.
Let me ask this. When you get , say a text, and you are not in the text app, doe you get the same size notification that you are seeing with the alarm clock you are using?
If so, there is a setting you can change to make this be a different style/size of notification.

Are you saying the alarm when going off doesn't show? I use timely and when the alarm goes off I get the screen where I can snooze or dismiss.

Yes, seems like Edge lighting is messing it up...

I have edge lighting turned on and don't have a problem. There is probably an app or something causing the bug.

I just did a test.
Off - works
On(screen off) - works
On(Always) - works.

Thank you so much for this. Strangely enough, the only way I found to solve my issue (which you don't have) was to disable edge lighting. I guess it's something more subtle. I'll keep trying to identify the culprit.

Try and see if your AOD needs an update or possibly clear it's cache/data.

What I don't understand is why Samsung removes features...instead of improving. I use the Slowly Increase Volume function on the N4 all the time. But of course, it's not on the N8. When did they remove that?

Actually, that particular feature exists. It's on the screen where you choose the alarm sound, right at the bottom.

Yup I see it where you select the sound and at the very bottom there's a toggle just under the volume.
