I used to have a Galaxy S2 before moving to Moto X, and the config curtain made me miss the Samsung Galaxy S2 curtain, where you just slide and choose to disable/enable what you want without the need of a widget. There is an app which does the same thing no moto x?

the icon on the status bar can be disabled?
I have not found a way. It you have one line of toggles and battery % turned on the % number covers the icon. I added more toggles the other day on the second line and the icon appeared beside the %. Chris

android already has this built-in, unless i'm missing something.
when you hit the settings button in the upper-right of the notification bar, you get a quick list of things like wifi, BT, etc. to disable/enable any of them, just long press (long press BT, turns on/off BT).

I know that, but I got used with the feature on samsung, I just have to slide one finger and have access to that. Without the app I'd have to slide, click and choose between thousand of icons, that's the feel I get.
And also, I like to disable screen rotation sometimes, that google just forgot on nexus template

i'm still confused. thousands of icons? do you need something additional from the standard five? i've used the power toggle widget since 2.x but ever since they added those same settings to the notification bar, the widget isn't necessary.
if this is what you're referring to, it looks more confusing than android's solution:

What I meant is:
on Galaxy S2, I just had what I needed on the curtain, which was wireless, mobile data, sync, rotation and few other things. That was enough. 1 line of icons.
Now on moto x I have pull the curtain, click on top right icon leading me to almost a screen full of icons and missing the auto rotate, when just a ribbon/line was enough.
On Galaxy S2 (ICS/JB) is very short, in the 3rd picture you've shown, it almost like visual pollution to me. the 2nd is more the way I like it.

you can use gesture controls in third party launchers to go directly to toggles. I use Nova Launcher and have it set so that when I double tap the screen the toggles open. you can assign other gestures instead if you wish. Have a single finger swipe down open notification shade, two finger swipe down for toggles for example. If you're rooted, you can use gravity box to change which tiles are displayed and in which order.

tell him to clear data for zeam launcher using the application manager
it will reset everything to default but it should give him back his notification bar
Did you try to double tap on empty space on your desktop?
That should uncover the notification bar in Zeam.
I just got mine yesterday and had this issue...or at least one similar to it when using zeam. Seems that having "full screen" checked in zeam's prefs will cause the notification bar to get covered up.

Hey guys,
We just released a new version of LilyPad HD. For those of you not familiar with the app, it's a floating IM client. Though this app is intended for tablets, I found it to be just as useful on my Galaxy Nexus. If you have ever been in a situation where you are surfing the internet or looking up directions and you get a message from your friend, you have to switch away from that app to reply to them. Well, with LilyPad HD, you never have to do this again. LilyPad HD floats on top of all of your active apps and lets you chat with your friends without ever leaving the app you're working on!
In celebration of Google's 'Longest Day' sale, we've dropped the price of LilyPad HD to only $0.99! Be sure to grab it while it's cheap!
Features:
-move it anywhere on your screen!
-Adjustable/resizable chat windows
-Quick Hide Mode: double tap action bar to enable quick hide mode
-Minimize chat windows completely
-Tabbed chatting for multiple conversations
Client Supported:
-Google Talk
-Facebook Messenger
-MSN
Upcoming client support
-Skype
-Yahoo
-AIM

Great work, just bought!
One thing though that is really missing is an option to not show in the notification area the "buddies list" as it's not necessary and takes useful space...there should be an option to choose as to remove that! Please fix!

Hi GTO. I just saw your market comment. Let me explain why its necessary to have that notification. You see, the app is running as a service. Because it lives on top of other apps (unlike traditional apps) it would often be automatically be killed by Android. We need a persistent notification present so that we tell Android not to kill the app. This is how these floating apps have to work. I hope you understand the need for it. Thanks.

Hi Anyman07,
Thanks for the explanation.
One question though: If I make it bulletproof using the V6 Supercharger script would it still need to be in the notification?
If so, it there could be an advanced options for rooted phone.
Thanks again!

Unfortunately this isn't really a high priority for us right now. We don't want to start getting into the rooting scene just yet. We believe, and I am sure many of our users will agree, that there needs to be a quick way to get back to the buddy list so that you can chat with your friends. There's really no use for the app if every time you want to chat, you must first close the app you're using to get to the homescreen to launch LilyPad. Sure there are shortcuts and things like wavelauncher to help expedite this process, but we're targeting the general people here. Plus, we would have to ensure that ever root user has 'bullet-proofed' LilyPad and that could get messy. So we'll take your suggestion into consideration but there's a lot of other stuff that we need to perfect before making a separate option just for rooted users. Thanks.

My 32GB Nexus 5 is less of a phone and more of a small tablet. But multiuser is not enabled!
You might ask, why do I want multiuser? Well... perhaps you give your phone to kids to play with on long trips. Or perhaps you want a "test" set of settings. Or you want to separate work and personal. Or maybe you just like to customize.
You do need the following:
1) Root
2) A way to enable the lock screen to rotate (I suggest Gravity Box: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316070)
3) A way to edit your build.prop. (Do it old school or an app such as https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor)
4) A current backup!
It is easy enough to do if you can edit your build.prop. This requires root, and YOU REALLY MUST BACKUP before you mess with build.prop. Seriously. Back up. It just takes a few minutes.
You can edit build.prop by pulling it to a PC and pushing it back or you can use a build.prop editor from the market (I used the one built into Android System Tuner Pro (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.pmw.pro&hl=en) because I was feeling lazy). If you are doing it by hand the build.prop is in /system/ The line you need is:
Code:
fw.max_users=4
You can set 4 to however many users you want to be able to support.
Reboot.
At this point, it seems like nothing has happened. You need to go to Settings and you'll find a new entry:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
If you click Users you should be able to figure it out from there:
Once you have set up a new user, you can press your user name in the settings to get to the lock screen. In portrait mode, it will look normal. But if you rotate to landscape mode you will see an icon for each user you've defined. If you set a different lock type/code for each (a PIN or a swipe code) you will have "some" security between users.
I did this on the 4.2.2 OTA that was slightly repackaged here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557523
You'd imagine it would work on most other ROMs that don't already support it, but BACK UP FIRST just in case!
sweet
Thanks for this find! So what's the default on fw.max_users? 1?
Thinking I might set this up so that when my son keeps asking "can I play on your phone" he gets his own setup. Interesting.
The default is the line is not there. This apparently sets it to a single user.

Good find. There's a couple other ways too like the app SwitchMe or my favorite: I just dual boot. The phone boots so fast that it's less than a minute to boot to the other side. That way my wife can set up the phone to be less confusing since my phone is mostly gesture based and not for the novice.

I've run into the black screen problem a few times on different ROMs. I'm not sure what causes it, and no matter what I tried I couldn't get any wallpaper to show up.
Other ROMs I've used don't have any problems with wallpapers...again not sure what the difference is between those that work and those that don't.
Instead of modding the build prop to enable multi-users, I use Xposed Framework and Modaco Toolkit. Once Xposed is installed and the Modaco Toolkit module is enabled, selecting the "Show users on power menu" option in the "Google Nexus (all)" category enables the User Switcher in the power menu, and adds the "Users" option in the system menu. Reboot after making the selections to activate the settings.
I'm currently using CyanFox ROM found in the Nexus 5 Android Development forum and multi-user works perfect. Long-pressing the power button brings up the power menu along with the different users on the phone (after they've been set up).
CyanFox is a great ROM by the way...I highly recommend checking it out
Another good ROM that allows wallpapers on all users is AICP, also found in Android Development.
Xposed Framework: http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
Modaco Toolkit: http://www.modaco.com/topic/361634-xmod-modaco-toolkit-for-xposed-framework
Not sure if this helps you at all, but other than finding a ROM that has wallpapers for all users, I'm not sure how to fix the stock one.
It's looks awesome!!
Looks cool, maybe I'll try it out soon

Yes, but Gravity box was only a suggestion for getting lock screen rotation. There are plenty of things out there that will do that and not all need Xposed. For example: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mah.screenrotationlock would probably work.

Yes, when setting up the new user, don't start with "restricted". Do a full setup first.
just upgraded to 5.1 (love it so far) and I don't see any notifications at all on the lock screen.
I made sure it was set to "show all notification content", I've also set the individual apps to be priorities.
I'm used to getting the music player on the lock screen as well, but I get nothing.
I made sure the moto display was all turned off in case it was interfering.
Anything else I can check? I really miss the music player, and not getting anything on the lock screen is a pain.
Thanks!

On the Verizon Droid Turbo with the soak test?
Any issues with the soak test should be reported on Motorola's Forum so they can look into causes and fix it.
Quick question, are you waving your hand over the front to get to the lock screen, or are you pressing the power button. I've noticed that I have to press the power button to see active notifications. Hope this helps.

yes, I did report it there as well, but have not heard anything yet. This community tends to be very smart and quick to have answers, so I'm reaching out here as well. I'm not sharing any info about the test or the code, just something I'm experiencing, so I'm not out of line for the soak.

Not saying you are out of line, but there aren't going to be too many people here with 5.1 that can help,, and Moto needs to know of any issues.
It is probably related to the new Ambient Display. The following is from the 5.1 release notes:
Moto Display and Ambient Display
While your phone’s display is off, Moto Display will continue to surface relevant notifications to you using the low-power Contextual Computing Processor. It will also intelligently react when you use the Approach gesture under Moto Actions.
Android Lollipop also includes a similar feature, called Ambient Display, that displays notifications like those shown on the lockscreen. If you prefer to try the new Ambient Display feature, you can uncheck the Moto Display setting in the Moto app. Note: Ambient Display does not use Motorola’s low-power core and will turn on more of the display, so battery life may be impacted. The Moto Actions Approach gesture will not wake Ambient Display.

Maybe try switching to the Moto Display mode instead. That is all the advice I can give as I am still on 4.4.4
PittAussie said:
Not saying you are out of line, but there aren't going to be too many people here with 5.1 that can help,, and Moto needs to know of any issues.
It is probably related to the new Ambient Display. The following is from the 5.1 release notes:

Thanks, I'm paranoid about saying too much (don't want to get black-listed from future stuff).

It may come to that, but I'm hoping to avoid it. I really hate having to rebuild everything after a wipe. Thanks though!

Just remember if its anything like previous soaks, they don't want you to do a factory reset unless they ask you to... Sorry it's not a simple turn your phone off then back on again solution. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Also, this maybe a dumb question, but you do have ambient display on right?

Ambient display is the function that gives you your messages on the lock screen, that needs to be on.

Spot on, not for the right answer, but for asking the right question. Even though you asked it tailed with "this maybe a dumb question", but it was the one that would have solved the problem from the beginning.
I've learned something today (southpark style), ask the right questions even if you think they're dumb, and the most obvious reasons are most likely the right reasons.
Had to get this wisdom out of my system :silly:

Tried it, that's not what I'm looking for. I don't want it to wake up the screen on its own. When I power button unlock (to lockscreen) I want the music player or the notifications. I currently only get the pattern to unlock.

Just so we are on the same page this is ambient display when I hit the power button. It flashes the info for a few minutes because we do not have a notification light. But I only see this when I hit the power button.

That's what I want! I get nothing, just the time and the pattern to unlock. Those are the notifications I'm looking for!

Once ambient display is turned on you need to go to "sound and notification" under settings, from there go to the notification section and, where it says when device is locked, click on that and show all notification content

1 - turned on the moto version, it gave me the moto notifications while it was locked (black screen with little white icon for a second) .. so hat works, but it's not what i'm talking about
2 - turned on the ambient setting, it did nothing..
both scenarios, the "show all content" notification option was selected (has been this whole time).
It's the notifications that are shown in the image above that i want, but I get nothing

Yeah, the image I posted was using ambient display, under display settings. The notifications appeared when I hit the power button. Have you tried wiping cache? It's a long shot but it might help. At least exhaust all options before factory reset, you know. Sorry I couldn't help more.

+1 try wiping cache, if it doesn't work, I am afraid a factory reset might be needed, which I usually do after each major update. The update app optimisation usually causes more problems especially when migrating apps to use ART.
I tried using Alarm clock Xtreme and Timely and both have the same problem: the alarm screen does not appear if the phone is locked. Instead, I see a tiny notification which I have to double tap before getting access to the the Snooze / Dismiss screen. Needless to say, I don't want to be chasing around a small area on the screen when I'm sleepy
For some reason I can't even take a screen capture, so I hope I managed to explain clearly enough the problem.
Is there any way to use a different clock than the preinstalled one? Seems like a no brainer, but it got me stumped.
Thank you for any suggestions.
I use sleep for android and don't have this problem. The snooze button and dismiss show up and do not require me to unlock the phone. I use an nfc card ass the dismiss for my morning alarm and that does require me to unlock the phone first before scanning but I can snooze and dismiss all other alarms no problem. Maybe try sleep for android.

Thank you for your answer. If you are referring to Sleep as Android, I tried that too and have the same problem. It looks like this comes from a setting, I just don't know which one.
By the way, my lock screen is on swipe, if that helps.

I tried blocking notifications, turning notifications off, hiding notifications. I also tried changing my lockscreen to swipe. I wasn't able to reproduce your issue. If I hit the home button while the alarm was going off I would have to unlock the phone before I could snooze or dismiss it. Even then though the snooze/dismiss screen would pop right back up. Sorry could not help more.
I'm using alarm clock plus.
Let me ask this. When you get , say a text, and you are not in the text app, doe you get the same size notification that you are seeing with the alarm clock you are using?
If so, there is a setting you can change to make this be a different style/size of notification.

I'm actually not sure. What setting is that?
Just to let you know, setting off edge lighting solved the problem. Thank you for trying to help.

Awesome. I just tried it and see the issue you were having. That would have been super annoying half asleep.

Are you saying the alarm when going off doesn't show? I use timely and when the alarm goes off I get the screen where I can snooze or dismiss.

I have edge lighting turned on and don't have a problem. There is probably an app or something causing the bug.

Thank you so much for this. Strangely enough, the only way I found to solve my issue (which you don't have) was to disable edge lighting. I guess it's something more subtle. I'll keep trying to identify the culprit.

What I don't understand is why Samsung removes features...instead of improving. I use the Slowly Increase Volume function on the N4 all the time. But of course, it's not on the N8. When did they remove that?

Actually, that particular feature exists. It's on the screen where you choose the alarm sound, right at the bottom.

Yup I see it where you select the sound and at the very bottom there's a toggle just under the volume.
