I tried to go back to kit kat from lollipop and ended up bricking it. Does anyone have a solution to fix this that works? I have been through the forum and tried nearly everything I have seen and nothing has worked. Everything i try to flash on Odin fails(it isnt a connection issue because i am using the exact same connection that bricked it) and when i tried Kies 3 it says my device is not supported anymore even though it will pull up my information when i type in my model name and serial number. I can still get to the download screen but aside from that i just get stuck in a boot loop. Please help.
Can you get to download mode?

i have bricked my step dads captivate. i put Cyanogenmod 9 on his phone he has been using it for a while now but he wanted to go back to the stock rom that came on the phone. i made a back up before i installed cm9 but when i was restoring it back to stock it said error restoring boot image then stopped so i tried it again the it went black. now every time i try to turn it on it gets stuck at the at&t world phone screen and wont do anything. so i made a jig to get it into download mode so i could flash it back to stock. but now on my widows 7 computer it says usb device not recognized. it gives a error code 43, and says device has malfunctioned. i have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them but the same message keeps popping up. i don't know what to do now im all out of ideas and i cant find anything that relates to my problem anywhere on the internet. please someone help me!!!
See the Captivate Connection Issues and Download Mode Help stickied thread in the General Forum.
Also u could try one of the Heimdall One Clicks instead of Odin.......see the stickied thread in the Dev Forum of the Master Collection of Stock Rom One Clicks.

No one tells you that you can't restore a factory image from CWM... but as you have seen, you can't.

seen this just few days back.... if you get stuck at the at&t screen, phone is soft-bricked and you dont need a jig to solve that problem.
I was under similar impression first, then read a post about a ROM installation and found out that to get to download mode, you can hold both the volume buttons and connect the phone to the usb with computer (phone initially is turned off) ... dont press the power button... this will give you download mode.... once in download mode ODIN to stock, root, flash to any ROM that you like by carefully following the instruction to "T".
i couldn't post outside link but look for captivate wikia download mode on google. it will give you a site with all options of bricked phone and solutions.
Hi, I need some advice. I dropped my Galaxy S in a puddle. It was submerged for the just a second, but when I fished it out, the screen had gone 'weird', so I got the battery out as quickly as possible, then dried it out for a few days in the airing cupboard. I then tried it and it started up okay, then when I swiped to unlock the screen, it froze. since then I have been unable to boot the phone. It shows the Galaxy logo, then restarts and continues that loop.
I wondered if maybe the software has just been corrupted during its bath, so I thought i might try flashing a ROM onto it to see if that would recover. I found that I could not enter recovery mode but download mode opened okay. I have tried flashing a few ROMS using Odin. I am completely new to this and have never flashed my phone before, so steep learning curve. I have so far tried - I9000XWJW5 which I believe is normally used before installing Cyanogen mod. I also downloaded the T-Mobile Stock ROM and one with this filename - CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS. All of these successfully downloaded to the phone and I could see the progress bar on the phone. Unfortunately I still cannot get the phone into recovery mode.
So, whats your opinion? is my phone screwed? Is there anything else I can try which may help, like formatting or anything like that.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
try search for value pack 2.3.6 and flash it then root it after that I believe you should get the recovery option.

Can I do that without being able to get into recovery mode?
I've just been reading that I can use a PIT file to repartition during flashing. Is it worth trying? I noticed in the Value pack TAR file it does not have a PIT file. I got one downloaded from somewhere else called - s1_odin_20100512.pit worth a shot?
I tried including the pit file as well. Odin reported success but phone is still continuous boot loop and I cannot get recovery mode up. Do you think one of those USB things that get you into download mode would help? I'm beginning to think the internal SD is knackered, or something like that.
I think the memory is brocken but i don't realy know. Send it to Samsung for a check

I replied in the other thread but if you pulled the cable when flashing bootloaders, your phone is most likely hard-bricked and the only way out is JTAG.

Hi,
I am sorry to post this topic but i badly need some experts to help me out with this. It would be very grateful if anyone of you could help me.
I have bricked my friend's samsung galaxy s i9000. Now i need to buy a new phone for her incase i dont get this one working.
I have searched on this forum and googled extensively, i tried almost every method on this forum to unbrick except the USB jig, all of them failed.
I have ordered USB jig online, and it is yet to be delivered to me. So that method is yet to be tested.
Meanwhile all i want now is some guidance, so that i could be self assured if what I am doing is right and i need some questions answered.
Please read the following to comprehend the entire problem.
1) The phone has froyo and it was working very slow, and i couldnt boot into download or recovery mode via 3 button combo. (why couldnt i boot into those modes?)
2) I connected the phone to samsung kies, and it said that there is an upgrade available. But the details for the upgrade were blank.
I went ahead and tried upgrading it, and it gave me 403 error. (why did it give null details of the upgrade firmware? and why did i get 403 forbidden access error? )
3) Next i connected to the phone via ADB, and i could successfully boot into download mode.
4) After booting into download mode, i connected it to odin. Then i tried flashing semaphore kernel v2.7.
I gave an error, write operation failed, and the flashing failed. (why did it happen?)
5) Next I couldnt boot the phone at all, I am stuck at the black screen of death aka bsod or the phone-!-computer screen.
6) I tried taking out battery, reinserting and tried severl combination of button to boot as explained at several places here, but none of them works. Neither am i able to connect it to odin, or adb.
WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW? IS IT HARD BRICKED OR SOFT BRICKED?
WHAT SHOULD I DO INCASE I AM ABLE TO BOOT INTO DOWNLOAD MODE USING USB JIG?
WHAT SHOULD I DO INCASE I AM NOT ABLE TO BOOT INTO DOWNLOAD MODE USING USB JIG?
Please help me, it will save me a new phone cost. I can hardly afford it.

Hello, just want to seek an advise. My phone got bootloop with no reason. I've tried flashing stockrom.zip in order for it to fix but I got an error in TWRP stating INVALID ARGUMENT. So, Ive decided to use SPFT to flash STOCK FIRMWARE. Everything works flawlessly. I dont have any errors encountered after installing stock firmware, but for no reason, my PHONE wont BOOT. TOTALLY no RESPONSE even if i hold power button. DEAD BOOT. My phone still detected by PC and SPFT and able to flash firmware but even if I always got SUCCESS, my sprout device still wont boot. Please advise me what to do. I know this phone is too old nowadays but I still like it. Thanks.
