[Q] 5.1.1 Stock rooted - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just bought the nexus 6. I would like to get a hold of stock rooted 5.1.1 so i can install it. No such seems to exist? Not really sure why, did interest in Nexus6 die down in the last month or two? I was sure there'd at least be 3 different threads about 5.1.1 rooted or similar, but i found nothing with a working download link

they dont exist because all it takes to root it is flashing supersu.zip. there are MANY nexus 6 roms and kernels for you to try, in the android development section and original development section.

yea I saw that, thanks. was just curious as to why thru stopped. between rooting, installing twrp and a kernel that doesn't encrypt, I was hoping to have a clean all in one solution

2.2 update ever?

Hey,
So I'm a CDMA man myself (EVO running cm7) but my girlfriend has a Captivate and really really really wants flash. I told her the only way to get flash is to root and get 2.2 but she WILL NOT let me root her phone. Apparently she doesn't trust me that much.
Anyway I've googled this junk 13411523541324 times and nothing seems to come up. I know Samsung pulled the initial 2.2 update but is an official one even in the works? I can't find any news on it.
Thanks for anyone who responds.
I'm running Andromeda myself, but I did update my wife's phone to the official 2.2 thru Kies Mini.
Download Kies Mini. And run the update. It's the Official 2.2 update for the Captivate.

Yeah, I couldn't find anything until I googled Kies Mini, then 304982374012983741093481723409182735 things came up. Girlfriend says she's pleased that she will soon be able to play flash games while she's at work. Woo hoo!

Yeah, but you forgotten some/most ROMs come pre-rooted. I doubt that his wife wants that.

Not my wife but just about. And yeah, explaining to her what the Superuser App is would be tricky without giving away the fact that she's rooted.
She just doesn't want me to mess up her phone like I have messed up phones in the past (though I've NEVER bricked a device I have had some close calls with erasing recoveries and whatnot). If she sees an update come straight from Samsung she's more inclined to do it.
Still, she's constantly seeing all the awesome features I get from all my custom ROMs and is like "I WANT THAT" so I'm like "WELL YOU GOTTA ROOT" and then she puts her foot down. Maybe one of these days...
yeah you are kinda stuck if she wants to flash but doesnt want to be rooted.
2.2 official does have benifits and is worth doing if you are going to stay official, but if you are going to flash custom roms 2.2 will add 3e recovery and a few extra steps to then get to custom. going to custom roms is easiet from 2.1

[Q] Firmware Versions

Hello, I have been unable to find anything about this elsewhere so I've resorted to asking here:
I am looking to install Android Revolution HD 3.5 on my HTC One, but one thing that is worrying me is that the firmware versions don't match, even though the One I have (from Three) hasn't actually received any firmware updates yet so it's still completely stock apart from the root.
The firmware on the device is 1.28.771.6 and almost all ROMs for the device are at 1.28.401.7. So I am basically just wondering if I have anything to really worry about, because I desperately want to move to ARHD, but the risk of bricking is making me paranoid, due to the process being very different to how it was done on the Samsung Galaxy S II I had before this.
Thanks!

Ah, so I'm just being incredibly silly and paranoid? Good ^^
Thanks for the reply, though I do have another question somewhat linked to this:
Do these version numbers mean anything when it comes to Cyanogenmod, AOSP-PA and other such ROMs?

I'm new with HTC myself, coming from an S2 and Nexus 4, however at the moment there aren't any Cyanogen based roms out, so you don't need to worry for now maybe ask in those threads when they are released.

[Q] Can I flash 4.2?

I recently got an HTC One and I didn't root it or anything, and because of past experiences I'm not planning on rooting it.
But can I still flash the stock HTC One 4.2 update? I didn't seem to get it OTA.

Perhaps the OTA is not yet available for your region or carrier... not all regions have had the update pushed yet and if your phone is carrier branded then there will be a longer delay.

What's your experience?
What I know it's so HARD to brick your phone during root...
And everything except bricking is FIXABLE...

I've owned 5 android phones: HTC Desire, HTC Sensation, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Samsung Galaxy S2 & Samsung Galaxy S3
The S3 and the Sensation were rooted with custom ROMs and the Galaxy Ace was just rooted. The S2 and the Desire were the ONLY phones I've owned that still work with no lag, no glitches and a relatively good battery. (less on the Desire)
After rooting usually nothing goes wrong and everything is awesome, but then after some time the rooted phones start acting out. It's hard to explain it (because virtually I don't think that's possible), but that's what happens and I want this phone to last.
The HTC One is a beast, the battery is REALLY good compared to older devices, I don't know what everyone's whining about. It's snappy and fast, I've literally never seen it lag (I've had it for a month+). I don't know.. I just don't want to root it for the time being :silly:

There is another way.... he can wait for the OTA to be pushed as the OP has said he doesn't want to root.
Please don't post these type of responses as you are not giving correct information.

so when he read my comment he said ok if there is NO other ways i will wait!

Stock Rom for Moto X? I've tried everything else

A guy sold me an ATT Moto X and he neglected to tell me it was rooted. So now I'm stuck with root that I don't really want on this phone. I tried using RSD Lite and the All in One Tool that was posted on here but nothing would work with my computer. So, now im just looking for a stock rom I could flash but I can't seem to find any on here for ATT. Any recomendations to fix this? Lastly, would flashing the 4.4 leak that was posted in the General section work? any help is appreciated.

As long as you are on 4.2.2 you should be able to rsd lite back to the most latest 4.2.2 firmware.
Either way, you can flash the 4.4 leak with fast boot
Moto X rocking 4.4

you probably are doing something wrong with flashing the stock FW. check the threads that talk about it and you should be fine. If you are running mac then there is a thread for that. if not then there is a thread for that as well. post in those threads with questions and you will get answers. i wouldn't take th 4.4 leak because you don't seem like you want to toy with your phone. It's possible that those people that took that leak might have to do a little or perhaps a lot of things to eventually take the real OTA. This has happened with other phones. You don't seem like you want to do that much tweaking so just go to those threads and ask questions there and explain what exactly you are doing and the errors you are getting.

Any ROMs that Family Link works?

I want to hand down my SM-T585 to my kids. I'd like to be able to use family link.
I'd been running Lineage (unofficial) whilst I was using it and I've also tried Bliss. Neither of these ROMs will allow a family link account to login.
Do any ROMs allow family link? Has anyone got the official Samsung ROM - perhaps I am best to go back to it.
Not a Galaxy Tab but I've been running Lineage on a different tablet (original LG G Pad) and Family Link works fine there.
I tried Lineage but couldn't sign in with the kids account. That said, it's an unofficial Lineage ROM for this device

I struggled with this issue for awhile when we 1st got this Tabs a year ago. One for each of my two kids. I wanted to root em and I was using Family Link for the 1st time.....outta trial/error, I had no luck getting a custom and Family Link to coincide. I'm OK with stock but there are q few things that drive me nuts.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone had any luck with this. There are a lot more options than there used to be when I 1st got the tablets. I'd love to upgrade the software on them with some AOSP. It was a pain in the a$$ when I first started messing with these tabs. I have a Pixel, hadn't had a Sammy in a few years. Had to relearn the process......

Yes, that'll get ya there. Just make sure to use the ODIN discussed in the forum specific to this tablet. Benn awhile since I used it but sometimes devices can be picky about which ODIN you're using. Good luck!
