I am going to be selling my Nexus 6. Currently, it is rooted and I have CyanogenMod 12.1 and TWRP installed. Should I revert back to stock, or is it worth more money if I sell it in its current condition?

Hi, your best bet would be to look on Swappa and see the completed sales in both areas. Oh and BTW, there's an app for that now too. Swappa app that is.
Also, have a look at this thread:

You should restore it to 100% stock if you`re gona sell it. Not everyone wants to root their phone And make sure to delete your Google account (check it by data factory resetting the phone and rebooting) so the next owner can access the phone without inserting your code or doing a unlocking patern of wich he has no knowledge off..

I have a Nexus One I am selling tomorrow and it is rooted and bloatware removed. I had flashed the frg83D available on line as the OTA 2 updates both failed to install. The device is running well. If I do a factory reset will it cause the device to lose root? And also will it have problems with FRG83D? The device is in as new condition and has an extra battery and 2 different colored casemate tough cases. I really do not want to mess it up in any way for the person purchasing it. Any and all help and info is very much appreciated.
It depends on how it was rooted.

true. are you unlocked the bootloader when you first rooted? if not, you can check the wiki for the guide to unroot your phone.
and i don't think the guy who will buy your phone would mind whether the phone rooted or not, in facts. it will be easier for him if it's already rooted. skip all the hassle rooting in the first place.
I am returning my phone back to stock so I can trade it in. I found a few threads on here that have ways to unroot but some seem questionable. Can anyone point me in the right direction to unroot an official Kit Kat updated device?
Thanks
Assuming you have supersu, uninstall all of your apps that have root access (for safestrap, busybox, etc make sure to uninstall the in-app stuff first), i would reboot here but that may not be necessary...then open up supersu and choose "full unroot". Then factory reset and double check status is official ☺
If you get a custom screen after that try rerooting then full unroot with supersu again
Edit: I stand corrected - flashing NC2 with Odin is easiest
Yeah I have su. So before I do this should I restore my stock rom I have backed up via safestrap? I am currently running dynamic kat 5.0
You can also reinstall factory firmware with Odin, then factory reset.

Awesome, I will give that a try when my upgrade is closer. Thank you

Yea @440bro 's suggestion is way easier since Odin removes all of that! unroot with SuperSU does work but it's a long way around for just returning to stock
please help

]I have similar situation except I have an iMac running OS X Mavericks. Could anyone tell me if it's possible to unroot my AT&T Note 3 to stock ROM to sell? I installed stock custom rom using safestrap but when I reboot or turn device on, I get a safestrap enabled cartoon thing asking to continue or recover. I don't think people will want to buy phone if they saw this sick looking robot thing when they switch it on. Please help...Phone too big for my hands. Thank you

Did you backup stock rom before you flashed the custom rom in safestrap? if yes, reflash your backup in safestrap then the steps in post #2 should work. If no, I'm really not sure how going through that unroot process with SuperSU while still on a custom rom would work out...Odin is much easier and more reliable so if there's any way you can get to a PC you might want to go that route.
Also if you're selling online you might find some people who do want to buy a rooted Note 3...I sold a phone on swappa a few months ago and there were people looking specifically for rooted phones. The 'cartoon thing' is safestrap and is exactly what you want to see when you turn on a rooted AT&T Note 3

Thanks for your feel good message...made my day. I thought I backed up stock rom however being an obviously root virgin...When I went to factory reset, everything was gone except for my ugly cartoony friend. Luckily I am able to read in small doses so I was able to do whatever it was I did to get her running factory...still rooted and unlocked. When you mentioned that people on swappa might be interested in a rooted device WITH my lonely friend at startup? I felt all fuzzy. I will post an ad on swappa later today in your honor my mysterious phoneguardian angel. Thanks again.

Looks like I'll need to go the long route to unroot. I have a Mac book and I can't find Odin for it
So I went and purchased a new Note 4 off contract today. I already have it rooted using CF-Root and have TWRP installed. My question at this point is, is there anything I need to be aware of or concerned about before I install a custom Rom? I am reluctant to start flashing as I do not want to brick this beauty. LOL I was on the AT&T and Verizon variants of the Note 3. Both had locked boot loaders with Safestrap. I did not need to worry about hard bricking as it was virtually impossible to do. But now that I have a phone with an unlocked boot loader again, I am kinda scared to start flashing again. :silly:
Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and is it proper to install roms from external or internal sd card? Or does it matter?

Should I stay on NJ7 or update to NK4 .... NK4 is newer
install a custom rom ..... Hell Yes but Really up to you :good:
Does it matter? yes stock rom suck with bunch of crap you don't need while custom rom give you almost endless options with your rom like putting paid apps for free :victory: modding the rom itself with your own twist / tweaks
Is there any benefit to updating . i was running 4.1.2 n now 4.4.4 looks way better better response speed ect ....
btw are you still on straight talk ?

I am at the moment with my note 3. Not my note 4 as T-Mobile will not give me my unlock code until after my second month service is paid for. Even though I purchased this for full retail price! Kinda scammy if you ask me, but I would end up paying the same if I were to use an unlock service. Considering an unlock is about 35 bucks, I only pay an extra 15 a month more for T-Mobile over straight talk. So I will use the two month service to get the unlock code then switch back to straight talk.

I'm about to trade my current device for a Nexus 6 with a guy on Craigslist. My only concern is that he may have rooted it and I am not sure how to check if he has flashed any custom ROMs then reflashed it. Anyone know if there is/where the flash counter is on the nexus 6?
Pretty ßu4e this is my first time posting a thread, so sorry if I broke any protocols.
Why would it matter if he did?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
There is no flash counter on the Nexus 6 that I have seen. This isn't a Samsung device... and it shouldn't matter because if you re-flash the stock image and lock the bootloader then its exactly how it was from the factory. There is no difference if its running the stock ROM. I've had to RMA 2 Nexus 6's and each one had flashed many many custom ROM's (my first one I flashed 15 ROM's and who knows how many kernels) and I flashed them back to stock, locked the Bootloader without any issues. Motorola didn't seem to notice because there is no way to tell that I know of.

The only thing I have to say, is.....
LOLOLOLOLOL
to check if a device has been rooted, all you have to do is install a terminal emulator. open it and type su(press enter). if you get a # after you type su, then you have root. if you dont get a #, then no root.
It's a Nexus so you don't have to worry if it has been or is rooted. If it is rooted you can always just reflash the stock image. With a Craig's List transaction, you need to be more concerned that the device isn't lost or stolen. That means get a copy of his driver's license and check the phone's IMEI and see if it's lost or stolen. If it doesn't come up as lost or stolen now it could in a month or two so make sure you get his personal information. Better yet buy a phone through Swappa.
Just bought my soon to be 6 year old daughter a 64gb turbo xt1254 on .44
I intend on unlocking it but keeping it stock. Now I have questions that have never pertained to me since I went cm immediately after boot loader unlock.
1: can you update a stock phone but unlocked boot loader via the normal ota process.
1.5: can I just use stock recovery and a stock zip ota file
2: if you can't can I use motos software to do it and not lose her data (games)
3: will it work without a Sim on WiFi?
I am still considering going cm13 with it.
I don't like bloatware but I want easy updates perhaps I should just go that way. I'm sure (hoping) @skrillax_cz will bring us android n and I have my doubts moto will.
I really really really wish someone would create a nexus experience rom and maintain it. A vanilla android with a few minor tweaks would be amazing.

1. Yes
1.5 Yes. The update will fail if your phone is not 100% stock. Recovery included.

I can always hide apps with a launcher and I can't think of a reason to root hers.
The twrp files you create can I dirty flash them and not lose her data?

Go ahead and install TWRP.
You can always flash any updates manually, like the links in this forum for .44 and .49. You KNOW there won't be that many updates coming down the pike, right?
But going to Marshmallow custom ROM will probably be the best bet. Any security updates are implemented much sooner than waiting for Verizon.

Yeah I'm really leaning towards cm13 now... I'd personally like to keep it on stock but I think to keep her device relevant and easily fixed my best bet may be installing cm on it.
My older daughter who is 9 has a HTC m8 (great phone and easily unlocked) HTC is really good about updates and I've kept her stock.
But my 9 year old also would understand if there were a logical reason to wipe her phone and install a custom ROM. I don't believe that'd be the case with the youngest.

I think he meant if he kept her on stock for now -- but then later went to custom ROM?
Which is the argument for going to custom ROM sooner, rather than later. Do it now before she gets a lot of stuff. Or save it off, then reinstall the games and data?

I used RR for a long time, but I finally went back to stock. I noticed a distinct decrease in signal everywhere I went. Basically RR signal = Stock rom minus 1-2 bars in any given area. Places where I just barely had signal with stock, I had no signal with RR. And I never had full signal with RR unless I was basically standing next to a tower. Everything else about it is perfect, I just couldn't justify taking a downgrade in signal, especially when I'm about to go running around Europe for 2 weeks.
If we ever get CM 14 I'll definitely give it a shot though.

I hope he's unlocked the bootloader already. You stick a SIM card in and boom -- updated to "49" with bootloader locked permanently?
Your "49" update can be flashed via TWRP. So, no reason to not unlock the bootloader and install TWRP. Even if staying on "stock".
Pretty sure any Marshmallow factory ROM will also be available to flash via TWRP. Right now the XT1225 Soak Test #4 (same as the final code) has a TWRP file to flash, so the XT1254 users will probably do the same.
