Can someone tell me what we will actually be able to download if bootloader remains looked? Can we flash certain types of Rom or mods? Or can we do nothing?

Should work the same as the S4 MF update that locked down the bootloader. You should be able to root but as for custom roms and CWM/TWRP we're out of luck.
Coming from a S4 running CM10.2 I'm not going to like using the standard rom but will get used to it I guess.
So even with the bootlegged locked we should be able to tour so we can use TB to backup and restore?

I have a locked MF3 firmware S4 and I'm running 3 different ROMs that are hot swappable thanks to Safestrap developed my Hashcode so even with a locked bootloader you can do something. Only thing is for now we are limited to internal storage for the ROM slots can't create them on external SD card but Hashcode has been working on that. Also we can only flash TW ROMs since we can't flash a custom kernel but that is also being worked on, I believe they want to be able flash a kernel with kexec. I have an AT&T S4 and currently swapping between an international Foxhound ROM, Google Play ROM, and well the stock ROM.

At this point I'd be happy with just root so I can use Titanium Backup.
Would be nice if we could get Loki.

Even tho I don't have any phone that has a bootloader. (i don't live in the USA Neither)
But if your Bootloader is locked you cannot Flash CWM or TWRP or flash custom roms (Because they need CWM or TWRP).
Sorry if I'm wrong. I don't have any phone with locked bootloader. Hope this helps.

Ditto... which is why I am returning my AT&T Note 3 less than 24 hrs after I purchased it.
My fault for not researching the bootlocker issue, but no way am I going to give up Titanium Backup. It has saved my tail more than once.
I'm also coming from an att S4. There has not been a bootloader unlock exploit but they do have some work around exploits like loki & safestrape. Loki is out bc they've already patched that so at this point I just hope we get root bc without that you don't have a fighting chance at custom roms

All I want to do is remove the AT&T bloat as well as the Samsung bloat. When I took my stock Note 2 and installed Cleanrom on it it felt like the phone got a cpu boost. Everything was smoother and faster.
With root, can we uninstall crap that is blocked from being removed while stock? I can live with a locked bootloader if I can just get as close to a stripped rom as possible. I'm pretty new to this stuff so forgive the newbie question.
Is is possible at all? I want to get cynogenmod from here
Not yet... If we ever bypass the boot loader. Or are able to write to the boot loader it'd be out tomorrow.
But for now we can only flash signed files.

So If I cant stand touch wiz and I'm still with-in the 14 day period should I take back my phone for a ???(advice on a phone) or do you think this might happen with-in some time period? Sorry I haven't had an android since the hero lmfao
Go into development and look at safe strap specifically though the xnote ROM
I am betting sooner or later someone will find a way to create a second boot loader... But yeah no promises.

There's no say on how soon we will get things like CyanogenMod yet. It was hard to pick out when things like SafeStrap would come out to flash somewhat custom ROMs. You can get an unlocked Note 3 and them activate it with AT&T. That will support Cyanogen before the AT&T Note 3 will I believe.
Return your at&t note 3 and get the t mobile one. Unlocked boot loader. You can flash anything you want on that one and it works on at&t after you root it and use regionlock away by chainfire

Hello,
Yesterday I picked up a T-Mobile Z1S and rooted it via TowelRoot, installed a custom recovery, and manually debloated the /system. Which is all good, however, I want to know if any of the ROMS here in this forum can be flashed to it, considering the Z1 and Z1S have the same processor. Anyone have experience doing this? Thanks.

Locked bootloader typically means it will be hard to flash custom ROMs until a way to bypass it or unlock it becomes available even with root.
I could not get towel root to work with my z1s. You just ran it and had root?
I have tried a couple yes with no luck.

Actually, there are no roms yet, but you can deodex your current rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783626
I rooted a little different than others. First I used the jcase method, installed the dual recovery and installed SuperSU. From there, I installed TowelRoot and ran it, rebooted, then flashed the latest v2 SuperSU. Sounds a little redundant I know, however, now I have permanent root, and also read/write permissions in /system, even after reboot, without running those ADB commands all the time.

I'll try to get a good system dump from my Z1S, and release a ROM that doesn't affect the kernel, which should be able to be flashed via recovery. Since the ROM will only be /system mods, it shouldn't matter if the boot loader is locked still. Inform me please if I'm mistaken.

I think that should be right, I thought the bootloader only prevents booting if the kernel isn't supported/allowed

No, you are correct.
As long as it runs on a stock kernel then you can have a locked bootloader. the whole of the development section is full of roms like that
The original development section is for mods/roms that need a custom kernel or a non stock boot.img

does this mean i can flash a rom with stock kernel?
has any one been able to create a back up nan?
This thread caught my attention. Has anyone had luck with flashing a rom with stock kernal using dual recovery? I will be attempting this later in the evening and I will post my results
After multiple issues I was finally able to get dual recovery with root last night. After sifting through the forums looking through roms, all of them required different firmwares, will the c6916 take firmwares from other z1 devices. If so then as the above poster said, there is loads of roms in the development section that will worked with locked bootloader. The only reason I ask is the posts list different device model numbers and the c6916 is not listed on any.
I would be very careful I hope you have insurance.
Kk update will come soon.

No cm will boot with locked bootloader.

Our devices have a 4.3 kernel that cannot be changed due to the bootloader being locked. Flashing a 4.4.X ROM will most likely not boot due to needing a 4.4 kernel as well. However, 4.3 ROMS modified to not flash the kernel, just the /system should boot fine.
When trying to boot another custom stock rom make sure you change the.
1. Libandroid-runtime-so.
2. Libandroid-servers-so.
Without not changing these it will not usually not boot up.

In other words, NO! Root is not a bootloader unlock. This has been asked a million and one times already. Smh..

you cant flash stock G870F to your device, the bootloader is locked (research goes along way towards answering your question) the only way you would get the 870F is via a custom rom based on that device, and you cant flash any kernels no matter what.
so in short NO you cant do whatyou want,
you need to root your device, install safestrap and flash a custom rom if you want anything outside of stock.

NO YOU DID NOT UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER, you only SIM unlocked the device for use on other carriers, you still cannot flash the stock G870F odin firmware to your device.
I'm not sure if that is 100% true. I think you can flash another but only if it is the same kernell. So if you are on 4.4.4 you can flash the same but you can't upgrade from there since the bootloader is locked. You can only upgrade an AT&T stock Rom.
Thanks for your reply. .....But i unlocked my bootloader with App called EZ-UNLOCK, is there any possibility that I still have locked bootloader....my android is 4.4.2.....Both G870A and G870F are similar in every Headwear. ....... do i need to flash kernel first......
Thanks

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY, EZ-UNLOCK app for locking/unlocking the bootloader and it said I did it successfully,
(1). My device is rooted.
(2). 4.4.2 Stock.
(3). No AT&T firmware Support
(4). Bootloader is unlocked. (if EZ-UNLOCK did it)
So what I need to do to flash G870F stock Firmware and Kernell or official 5.1 lollipop to my S5 ACTIVE G870A At&t, plz tell me Which KERNELL do i need and where can i download it.

If you truly have a SM-G870A then I highly doubt the app worked or we would all be using it. You can flash with Odin to any G870 with 4.4.2 or upgrade to 4.4.4 and flash that equivalent. But I wouldn't mess with it if you don't know what you are doing. 5 will be out soon. AT&T is just taking it's time and we are being very impatient.
I did a quick search of that app youve used there and it says IN THE TITLE its for the verizon S3, not only that the thread for this app says its not only not been updated since 2012 but will hardbrick your device if you use it on the later firmwares. That app is most likely lying about the bootloader being unlocked. At the end of the day it is locked and we just have to deal with it and work around it.
