When you connect the device to a computer and turn it on, what does it display as the device? In Windows, check the Device Manager to find this information.
Have you ever downgraded this device prior to taking the OTA?

At this time, there is no way to recover from that (bootloader is corrupted). Contact moto about a repair. They should cover it since the OTA caused it, especially if under warranty.

Unfortunately, the files required to make the repair are not available. Motorola would have to either release the files to the public or the files be leaked by an employee, both of which are not likely. Contact Motorola, they have been doing some replacements for these issues, since their OTA script should have adequately checked the bootloader prior to flashing. If anything, contacting them will further encourage releasing the bootloader files.
Did you ever downgrade your device? This bricking generally occurs due to flashing an incompatible bootloader.

Google says no, as does many posts in many threads on this forum.

sIm Lock, aka carrier lock, has nothing to do with bootloader unlock.
To bootloader unlock, you need the unique code for the phone. Likely due to carrier contracts, Moto doesn't give out the bootloader unlock code for ATT, Verizon, or Republic Wireless, but does for many/most other carriers. At one point there was a web site in China and a Middleman who access to Moto's list or database of codes which included even those Moto didn't publicly make available (I.e ATT, VZW, RW) but that dried up a while ago. JCase found a vulnerability in the bootloader on the 2013 X, and came out with/updated his Sunshine tool with a hack exploiting that vulnerability to unlock the bootloader (without having the unique code) on the 2013 X too, but it doesn't work once the X has been upgraded to 4.4.4. Sunshine DOES work on the 2013 X if it has never been upgraded past 4.4.3.
Thanks for letting me know. I got the phone in August and it was on 4.4.3, but then I accidentally installed 4.4.4. If only I had known that I wouldn't be able to root it after that.... It really sucks because I really want Viper4Android on my Moto X.

Jcase has been teasing us with word of the next sunshine version working for 4.4.4. It was projected to release early January but they must not be done putting all their awesome into that sauce. Be patient and I bet you'll have an unlocked bl soon enough.
In an abundance of caution, I would probably hold off taking the lollipop update coming soon in case it patches whatever vulnerability they are exploiting.

4.4.3 or 4.4.2? because I wasn't aware that there was a 4.4.3 for ATT.
I checked it as soon as I got it and it was 4.4.3. A few days after, a notification for 4.4.4 popped up and I accidentally hit install. I got the phone August 10th, 2014.

I wonder if Android 5 will have an exploit or something to unlock the boot loader.

India? What model X do you have, and from what carrier?
Often times the 2013 X in EMEA has been an XT1052.
Have you tried checking Moto's home page to get the unlock code? https://motorola-global-portal.cust...e/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a/action/auth

Ya mine is XT1052 .I checked the site ,in find device section there's
moto xCanada / Rogers
Moto xUS / Sprint, USC, TMO
Moto x Latin America
Mine is Asian retail Indian model so how to find if unlocking is avbl?
If I proceed with (moto x US) and generate serial key of my phone using SDK tools and check for unlock bootloader in site, my phn won't get bricked or anything right? That's a doubt I have.

You should be able to use the same web site to get the bootloader unlock code, many others with the European and Asian XT1052 have been able to get their bootloader unlock code there.
If you get the code in an email, it will either work, or give you an error if its not the right code. It will not brick your phone.

See the one stop shop for root thread in general. Right at the top of the page.
All current root methods are there, based on device versions and state. ?
There is a untested way to unlock the bootloader but is very risky, you must open your device. Anyway if you are so brave to try this procedure http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-ultra/general/droid-ultra-maxx-brick-recovery-t2830806 look at this guide at the second point, first you must drill the plate on the ram chip, you must short the right pin on your moto x to ground (i attach a photo, pointed by the orange arrow) then follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/how-to-resurrecting-bricked-moto-x-t2629057
THIS IS A VERY RISKY PROCEDURE: YOU CAN BRICK YOUR DEVICE!!!
I wouldn't. ^^^^

just unlocking/rooting wouldnt prevent ota updates from motorola right?
I have a motorola X with unlocked bootloader, but the flash another ROM, remains intact the stock ROM. So when I try with a custom recovery also remains the stock recovery.
I want flash my phone since all process stops, and sometimes off by itself.
Thanks for any help and excuse me my english.

I dont think that the bootloader of your phone is properly unlocked... From what i understand your post is saying that whenever you flash anything the whole mobile doesn't takes any affects... So still it must be Write Protected... AFAIK... Do this test and make sure that your Boot loader is completely unlocked...
Power off your phone
Wait for 5 Seconds
Press and hold power button and volume down button simultaneously for 4 seconds then release those buttons...
And look out for a yellow line or a any other white line saying Device Status Code
If your bootloader is properly unlocked it must say: Device is unlocked: Status Code 3
If it gives you any other status code... Then your Boot loader might be relocked thats why it must be saying bootloader unlocked on the startup by which i assume you are saying bootloader is unlocked... Checkt these out and tell us... We are always here to help others android owners..
Good luck..

Okay so i saw the screenshot.. Its properly Bootloader Unlocked..
Now the chances might be that your stock recoverry is either corrupted or damaged because your phone's factory reset is not working.. Flash the stock firmware of your phone through RSD LITE... Flash the 4.4.4 version and dont donwgrade... And after flashing the stock firmware... try flashing recovery again. Find the stock firmware of your device according to your model... find the model code at the lower back side of your phone its really tiny so you to have twist the phone to make it visible...

In your title you put moto x gen 2. Which this thread is for moto x gen1. If the OTA bricked your phone I would guess you had miss matched partitions and probably something you did prior to the OTA. Hope it was a Dev edition since you said your bootloader was unlocked. Only Dev editions are covered by warranty with unlocked boot loader s.
I have a stock T-Mo Moto X which was dropped and the screen is not usable but the phone boots up. I cannot interact with the touch screen. How can I backup the contents of the device via ADB or some other means and how can I wipe the device without being able to interact with the touchscreen?

I know you noted it was stock, I assume that means no custom recovery? Would it be possible to flash one (if BL is unlocked)? If the BL is locked, don't unlock it because it will wipe data...

Nope, pure stock. Check my latest edit though.
Long story short but I tried to revert back to stock in order to take the MM ota update but this resulted in me downgrading my bootloader and this hard bricked my phone.
I am aware of "blankflash" that can fix hard bricked 2013 versions of this phone but apparently there are no blankflash files which can restore this phone.
To my knowledge there is no other way to fix a hard bricked moto x 2014 (I really want to be wrong about this and would love if someone could provide info on how to fix).
I tried to contact moto support for a replacement but my device is 2 weeks out of warranty so no dice they will not help me and want me to pay $125 for a repair.
Is there anything I can do? Or should I start looking for a new phone....

Yes bootloader was unlocked, seems like the consensus is that its dead until moto releases the blankflash files for this phone. Oh well live and learn. I cannot boot into fastboot and adb does not detect the device.

I also have a pure edition XT1095 with an unlocked bootloader and reflashed to stock to take the Marshmallow OTA and bricked my phone. I used the Multi Tool V4.1 which flashed my phone from 5.1 to 4.2.2. It booted fine and started the OTA of either 5.0 or 5.1 which was when everything went to hell. I can't get to recovery mode and I'm pretty pissed. I've ordered a Nexus 6P and have put Motorola on my short list of companies I will no longer do business with as they have the drivers and utilities to fix the phone but do not release them. Yeah, I'm guessing it had to do with the bootloader not being able to go back to 4.2.2 and don't need to hear that. The point is that it is a non-subsidized pure edition phone and an OTA should not be able to hard brick the phone.

The xt1095 has a warranty, you can send it in for repair. As far as as downgrading, in the upgrade descriptions it clearly states you cannot downgrade to an earlier version. You ignored that message or didn't read it and flashed 4.4.4. That isn't motorola's fault. However the pure xt1095 does not lose it's warranty when you unlock the bootloader, so they will fix it if you contact them and send it in. They just don't give us the tools to fix it ourselves, but that does not mean you have no options.

Seriously? First off, the phone is out of warranty. Secondly, I don't know what upgrade descriptions you're talking about. I didn't ignore anything. I used a tool I got from these forums that had no warning. This is an honest mistake I'll guarantee others will make and to suggest they are stupid is just rude. After it happened I guessed it was due to downgrading to 4.4.4 but by then it was too late. For the phone to be so fragile that you can brick it this way is ridiculous and unacceptable that there is a tool Motorola has that would fix it but they do not make available.
Thanks for the helpful feedback. I was trying to share but now see I was wasting my time.
You might want to join the conversation going on at reddit over here I think you can go back to 5.1 by flashing the whole 5.1 image via the bootloader (including erasing userdate and cache) - I say so because that is what I did but some people say it will not work and to be honest now I'm losing confidence in my memory.... Hope we could get more insight, or at least get the official 6.0 bootloader image from moto soon.

Well....apparently you haven't read much more in this forum, this downgrading brick is common and its often asked by the other. You cant downgrade from lollipop to kitkat. So, if you had read more deeper in this forum, you could prevent this hard brick. And many member forget that this is not nexus device, and yes flashing or upgrading will have risk of hard brick.

I actually knew downgrading was a bad idea and didn't intend on doing it. I used the MOTO_X_2014_PURE_MULTI_TOOLV4.1 which I had used in the past but didn't remember it was going to flash back to 4.2.2. The instructions on the page just say FLASH BACK TO TOTAL STOCK UNRROOTED ROM AND RECOVER-FULL-WIPE. It doesn't say anything about going to 4.2.2. When it said it was downgrading when I ran it I thought "oh, oh" but it was too late. I was trying to provide information in this thread because I hoped it would be helpful, e.g. DON'T USE THE MULTI_TOOLV4.1!. I specifically said "I'm guessing it had to do with the bootloader not being able to go back to 4.2.2 and don't need to hear that" and what do I get? "...You ignored that message or didn't read it..." I'm already pretty grumpy about my mistake and bricking my phone and to get this kind of lashing isn't appreciated.
