HD Voice on CM12.1? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So cyanogen 12.1 claims native HD Voice support, yet the feature doesn't seem to work at all. Is there some option to turn on somewhere? Or better yet, are there any other AOSP based roms that support HD Voice?
I'd also like call recording to work, which CM12 doesn't do (yet AOSP does) due to what seems to be a deliberate design choice by cyanogen. (Which I'm not sure why, because recording your own phone calls is legal in 40 states, even if the other party isn't aware, and in most of the remaining states it's still legal to do, only it can't be used as evidence in court.)

I've been wondering the same. I can't find 'any' feature related to HD Voice, while my provider provides it.

Call Recorder in Android ???

I know in some Contry its Illegal to Record Call but its not True for every
Country
I am Marketing Executive and drive a lot and in the middle of road i
receive to much call for reporting and rates feed for the Market, i have no
option other then using Nokia Symbinan Based Automatic Call Recording
software and at the end of the day i listen and write down every thing in
my PC for further Action .
I know its Possible through Android to Automatically Record Phone calls or
Atleast a API Support for Developers in SDK to do so.
Unless untill Call Recording don't come in Android all my Top tier Marketing
Team can not use Android At all.
I think Google Should seriously think about API Support in SDK to Support
Call Recording so my Situation can be Handled easily.

Nop. It can record your audio, but not the callers:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/c2bc85eb60ae2aa5?pli=1
Apps that can record what you are saying: ringdroid and droidrecord. I have the same problem though. Hope they make it possible in FW 1.5.
Yeah +1
Every other phone I've had could do it and I do miss the ability to record and save phone conversations, especially when arguing with warranty returns/call centres.

News?
Somebody know if there're changes about newer android versions? Do Call Recording work now?
There is a new application in Andorid Market called AllCallRecorder. I think it would
help you
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.jp-eguchi-android-callrecording-wzin.aspx works pretty well. Voice from the other end is a little quiet, but I haven't had problems.
Two ways call recording is depending upon hardware construction same like wm and symbian. For example if wm, Asus and Samsung can but HTC cannot, whereas if in symbian case, Nokia can but Samsung cannot. This conclusion comes from my long experience with the aforementioned mobile phones. Have not tested with Garmin Asus android yet as it is not available in my market but believe this one can as Asus make it and assumably using the same hardware design for phone circuit.
We've confirmed that our Total Recall call recorder app for Android is running (ie, recording audio from both the device and the caller audio) on the following devices:
- Acer Liquid 100
- Droid Eris
- G1
- General Mobile DSTL1
- HTC Evo
- HTC Dream
- HTC Hero
- HTC Magic
- HTC Tattoo
- MyTouch
- Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 / Mini
Now, these have been confirmed either through internal tests on our own handsets or via user feedback, which means there's some variables, including OS version, among other things, so actual results on the same hardware may vary, but it's a good start anyways.
We've received feedback from a couple Moto Droid/Milestone users that it was also recording fine (just not showing the clip via our app, but it was available in the SD card), however on our own Droid running 2.1 (and previously 1.6) we never saw it successfully record a call.
Keep in mind the list above is for our own app, which has required about 20 updates to resolve various device specific issues either with recording, storing or showing audio files in the app, over the past few months, so other recorders may or may not actually work for you.
Anyone interested in giving it a go can download it from our website killermobile (dot)com. If you do run into any issues, PM me for a special debug version so we can see if we can get it running on your particular device. If you read this in the next couple days, and you use an EVO or Desire, also PM me for a special version that includes a fix specifically for these devices (official release will come after a bit more testing). We're definitely keen to add to our list of supported devices and will keep updating this thread accordingly.
Cheers!

Total recall works on a HTC tattoo
Had to import it to my country
works like a charm
would like something to work on ver 2.0+ android though
Tattoo runs on 1.6 android
Just shows you that it did work and then Google F**** it up.
Nice to know that Total recall works on some phones.
But how well does it really work?.
I always use hands free. Would any of the short listed phones be able to seamless record the other party sound while using a handsfree set?
Thanks
Total Recall works like a charm on Tattoo
I make it pop up afterwords to add caller details and what call was about to the name
I record in mp4 format and found a free mp4 reader to read files
Been using it for 3 months
Worth the money a few dollars
sorry didnt see hands free part
Dont do hands free so cant answer that
Dont like bluetooth radio devices nect to my head
CAll rec software

Now we have bunch of app which will get your calls recorded
just check with laws in your state
Check out these free/trial apps :
Record My Call
RecordCall
Total recall call recorder TRIAL 14 days
All Call recorder
AndRecorder
Call recorder
Call Recorder
Note : File names are taken from Android Market and are placed one per line and will be exact in market so search with same keyword . There is not priority , just check out and use the one you like
PAID apps are also available but you will have to shell some $
out of all these only total recall appears to work and then only on some fones and on version 1.6
2.2 seems curtailed by goole on the voice streams ???
As far as I know it's not an Android issue.
The audio is handled by kernel on /dev.
The problem is really simple here: HTC's last kernels DON'T support this.
It's not an hardware problem, the audio from dmesg is there.
When you attach a bluetooth handset the waveform is sent to (and received from) the paired device.
Someone with free time could download kernel sources and search where HTC put this limitation..
Moreover.. on some kernels the /dev devices are there (but with different names of those supported by mediarecorder) and a symlink on /dev will suffice.
those are my 2 cents.

Skype from a VZW phone - possible?

Is it possible we might be able to receive a Skype APK from any of the VZW android phones ? seems like the Droid Eris might be most compatible seeing as how it's more in line with first/2nd gen devices. Is this possible? Would distributing the APK be illegal/warez due to the exclusive contract between Skype and Verizon (even though the app itself is free?)
Even if we can't use voice features, I'd love to get this app back on my phone. I rely heavily on Skype for communicating with several colleagues and friends, and a mobile offering which provides a sensible single and group chat functionality is in dire need. I know the APK of the old version if floating out there, but loading thousands of lines of chat history is a pain on that version (it literally locks my phone up from doing anything else).
Anyway, any of this possible at all?

[BOUNTY] Restore Native SIP support for cash!

Hi folks,
I'm looking for someone who can either provide a guide for replacing existing BlurPhone.apk with .apks that work with the native gingerbread SIP stack OR someone who successfully hacks BlurPhone.apk so mIsSIPSupported is not hard-coded to false.
I personally will provide $20 Paypal payment to anyone who is the first to do either of these two things. I've been patiently waiting for ROM releases on this phone only to find out that all the options we currently have still utilize the stock BlurPhone app...
Anyone else who would like to offer bounties for this accomplishment please chime in here.
Thanks!
MODERATOR MESSAGE
XDA accepts no responisbility of a scam of any sort.
No offense intended to anyone, just a disclaimer.
This is actually a HUGE thing for me - so I'll toss in $20 too.
Dumb question: Would this just be standard SIP support that I remember Google talking about 12 months ago, or would this also include the ability to use Google Voice right in the OS?
Google Video Chat works ridiculously well so I can only imagine how well Google Voice calls would sound (requires less bandwidth) if it was built right into the OS. As it stands, I use GrooveIP and it is always very frustrating to the recipient of my call.
this request is specifically about the functionality disabled by motorola in blurphone.apk
bump...
anyone? anyone?
Very much needed
I will also be willing to put in money if this gets done. What was Motorola thinking taking it out?
good news...new ICS CM9 has working built-in sip ..whoot

Question Mi Dialer Port? For AOSP and other MIUI ROMs

Hi Devs,
Can some devs come together and work on a separate side-load-eable MI DIALER Port for AOSP roms and normal MIUI?
Something really similar to ANXCamera. Xiaomi and many other manufacturers have become really lazy by not providing region specific apps and clubbing all regions in their global apps together.
For example, countries like India, Indonesia other many other SEA countries do not have any legislations about declared call recording (in fact encouraged) but Xiaomi does not provide their very capable Mi Dialer anymore and instead bundles the pathetic Google Dialer.
Google in all it's self righteous glory declares calls are being recorded to both the parties when using it's Google Dialer, without an option to turn it off in countries where it's not mandated (talk about Google being richer than countries and setting it's own regulations).
This doesn't seem like a really difficult thing to do for a couple of capable developers giving it a couple of days and should really be a thing to be taken care of.

I don't think any dev would be interested in doing so. For any reason you need call recording very badly, you can use custom MIUI ROMs like EU, MiMix, Hellas, etc. If that is not your cup of coffee, then use any third-party call recording apps made for AOSP ROMs.
Good luck!
You can flash NikGapps on vanilla aosp builds it's has modified AOSP dilaer which let you enjoy recording feature. beside, You can install module (root needed) to make it happen.
Would sepatare app for call rcording wouldn't work?

Doesn't work. Google has screwed something up where all the playstore apps are redundant. All are only at the mercy of the great Google for their announced call recording using the google-dialer.
Im currently using ACR but other party is very silent in comparison.recordin from within the dialer would be perfect.

Nice! good for rooted chaps. Having said that, there should be a way for the not so technically inclined. I personally, seriously have an aversion towards keeping the root level access to my phone open all the time. There should be something available for lesser mortals like me who choose not to root. Something similar to ANXCamera which just requires a simple flash.
People are underestimating the gravity of the current situation, this new wave of Chinese phones have only started giving these pathetic G-apps, instead of the apps they used to provide, people are having no options other than change phones/roms. I personally know a chap who sold off a brand new phone just because it had the Google Dialer and moved to a pathetic Samsung mid-ranger just for the call-recording functionality.

Samsung Galaxy S21 makes Google Messages app native, but there's a catch
Samsung Messages may still be the default on the new S21 lineup, but Google Messages is now a native app on Samsung's new phones.

Google has redesigned its Messages app on the Galaxy S21 to match Samsung's One UI style even more.

Well it's just about the Messages but Phone should follow next.

I'm using true phone dialer with inbuild call recorder and I can recommend the pro
True Phone Dialer & Contacts - Apps on Google Play
Powerful T9 phone and contact manager with dual SIM support and call recorder
play.google.com
Use any vanilla ROM that has call recorder and install gapps, but edit the script so that the aosp dialer is not replaced with Google's. Done.
MIUI Dialer is not only good for recording calls but the UI itself is the best. There is not a single dialer as of now that can beat MIUI dialer's UI and simplicity. If somebody can make it, it'd be great.

Is it possible to successfully record calls with Android 10 / One UI 2.5 without root and without changing CSC?

My Search Fu may not be the best, but I did try to find an answer. Is there any way to successfully record calls with the current release of Android (10 with One UI 2.5) on the Note9 without using root or changing CSC in regions where it is not enabled in the Samsung phone app?
Some people have used third-party call recording apps with the phone's speakerphone mode. Unfortunately, that is not an option in public, especially when dealing with something sensitive. It is incomprehensible that Google would remove functionality that is one of the most basic, most necessary ones for smartphone users. It is COMPLETELY LEGAL for me to record calls where I live. Allow me to do so.
