Phone bootlooping after batery dies - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
After installing CM12.1 my phone works all fine, up until my battery dies and phone powers off.
After the battery went flat I have charged my phone and tried to power it on, phone goes to the boot animation then it says "Android is upgrading" after its went through all the apps it goes back to boot animation and keeps repeating the upgrading process over and over again. It doesn't give me a chance to go to the recovery so I need to switch my phone off with a pen.
I have used Kit Kat before and never experienced any problems like that, it only happened when I have upgraded to Lolipop, both with VANIR and CM12.1. (with and without Tangerine kernel)
The only apps I install after clean rom install are : Youtube, Snapchat, Facebook and Messanger, Hola Launcher, BBM. I do not install any bootanimation mods or lockscreens.
My bootloader is unlocked.
The only .zip I flash after installing is gapps for the chosen rom. (I flashed Tangerine kernel before but the problem occured no matter what kernel I use.)

OK, first thing to try:
Get to the recovery and dirty flash your rom again.
Android should boot up now.
Set Trebuchet as your default launcher.
See whether the problem persists or not.
What is BBM?

Why you letting your battery die in the first place? Why?
Anyhoo in case it happens next time, you could also try booting into recovery and wiping cache and dalvik cache and see if it helps you boot.
You could also take a nandroid backup and try some other ROM and see it the issue persists though why you would let you battery die out on purpose is beyond me.

I use my phone a lot and it just dies. I'm on 50% right now gonna try and drain it somehow and try suggestions from up there ^ I'll post results when I get them.

Yeah, letting the battery die ain't good, but this belongs to a regular usage of the phone. So it has not to cause bootloops...
We aren't like Steve Jobs who said "Then don't hold it like this!"

So I have drained my battery a few times and everything seems fine, the only thing I done differently is I set Trebutchet as a default Launcher don't know how its making any difference but it did.

I can explain:
Sometimes, apps have problems with a hard shutdown.
When a phone completely boots and then gets into a bootloop, it is mostly caused by a defective launcher app.
Without a Wirkung launcher, the phone can't boot. It will be stuck on bootscreen because there is no launcher that stops the bootscreen.
You can use any launcher you want, but not the one you used to use.
I like the Xperia Home launcher ports. Bit there are other great launchers out there in the stores. Pick one and report if the problem comes back

Dude I gotta ask - is the extra 5-10 mins you can squeeze in before the battery dies worth all this trouble that follows? Come to think of it, you're kinda bringing this upon yourself, aren't you?
What is so important that you have to bleed your battery dry everytime? And if it's that important, why aren't you carrying a powerbank or getting to a power point asap? I mean it stands to reason that if your phone's so vital to you, its better to rejuice it than to let it die right?

I cant control it I can go out for 12 hours and my phone will die. And I'm pretty sure a normal phone can handle it.
A small update, I switched my phone on after I have switched it off to dodge some phonecalls (don't judge) and tried to power it back on and it started "upgrading" again, it was in the middle of the night so I left my phone in the charger for few hours bootlooping then plugged it out during sleep, somehow I woke up to a booted up phone I'm really confused

Then... It seems like your phone isn't bootlooping. It is just slow.
We need the logs of the boot, some logs that show us what's going on when it boots that slowly.
I'm still convinced it's an apps fault.
Did you clean the user data when you did the last clean install? Some app data can survive a "clean to install new rom" there.

I have cleanded user data and installed CM12 without tangerine, didnt install any apps to see if it keeps happening and yes it's "optimizing apps" over and over...

Flash stock rom and start over again. Dont restore the backup and use your device for few days.
Try AICP instead of CM

Flash the ftf file?
- Phone now boots to the lock screen and goes back to boot animation then goes to lock screen and repeats it all without optimising apps... Lolipop is too good to just downgrade

That's a hot reboot what you experience now.
What I asked you for is to go back to stock and then immidiately go back to CM.
Flashing the Stock Rom is only for absolutely wiping everything without the risk of bricking your phone.
It wouldn't make any difference how long you stay on stock.
If it's not a hardware problem, it will solve your bootloop / hot reboot issues!

[Q] Urgent help Phone not booting and stuck at samsung galaxy note screen

hello
i had clean installed the JB rom xxlsa on my note
my battery died while i was playing a game so i put the phone on charging
now when i turned it on its not starting
what shud i do
i booted into recovery and tried to clear cache and dalvik cache also reinstalled the rom from memorycard but still the same
can anyone guide me
Reinstall like the 1st time, do all wipes + formats then flash.
Is the phone looping ? Meaning on the glowing samsung logo, It vibrates then restarts the animation over and over again ?
Also, how long has it been like this ? Have you left the phone to charge for around 30mins before trying to power on ?
Im certain its nothing serious as you can still get into recovery and its still attempting to boot, So maybe its ROM / Kernel related.
EDIT: I just noticed you said its stuck on the Galaxy Note screen, not the boot animation... Have you by any chance just flashed philz kernel ? I had this issue the other day and I could only get it to boot by doing a full reset
BUT....... If recovery is working, Make a nandroid backup, reset the phone, then restore the apps from the nandroid using titanium backup. That way you wont lose any apps that you have installed since your last backup.

Well your contacts will be backed up with google but im pretty sure a nandroid will back them up too, including sms's
Titanium will only restore apps from a nandroid, if you want to restore other things, try this app
What is disturbing is this just happened to me as well. My battery also ran down while using an xxLSA based ROM and won't boot past the "Samsung Galaxy Note" logo. Fully charging my phone so I can do a reinstall.
edit: Just confirming that Factory Reset fixes the problem. All my data is backed up so I went for it.

Me too. I tried at least 4 times to get v5 installed. It works fine until I try to install any app such as Titanium. Then it gets stuck at the first Samsung .. screen on the next reboot.
It's really p****ng me off. There must be a hell of a bug in this ROM.
This is the result of hurry. Let the developer test the firmware first. Not everything is flashable let the devs make a sacrifice first then on his recommendation install the FW

CWM Not Working at all...

Hey all, hopefully someone can help me out. Ill post the full story and the tl;dr version at the end.
So, my Xperia TL (LT30at) has been rooted for over a year and a half. Since i rooted it it never charged when turned off. I did research and couldnt figure out why, so i left it and have lived with it for the last year and a half. However, i just updated my phone to JB 4.3 by Dark Lord (Ultimate Pure XT ROM) so the model number is actually Xperia T (LT30) Anyways, the phone dies a lot quicker than before so the other day it died and because it wont charge when it is off i usually wrap a rubber band over the power button so itll charge enough to turn on and then charge by itself after that. However, it would only charge enough this time to boot, but then turn right back off. I did this for well over a day and got sick of it not working so i tried messing with things. In the process, I was in recovery (it was philz cwm or something like that, by the way im quite a noob when it comes to all of this, hence why im having problems) and i flashed the xposed disabler zip, thinking it would get rid of cwm because i didnt know what I was doing. It did end up getting the phone to turn on, and its charging great. However, the system UI crashes, and the "unfortunately the system UI has stopped working" pops up repeatedly so you cannot physically do anything on the phone. I tried going back into recovery to flash my backup to fix everything, but it was downgraded back to an older version of cwm, the version i origonally had on it before the 4.3 update. its like 6.0.3 or something, by david marcos or something. Anyway, itll go into recover but a bunch of error messages come up, like unknown volume path, no etc/recover.fstab, stuff like this. There is no way to flash any recoveries because it basically says it cannot find the paths. It will not backup, restore, wipe anything, flash from sideload, nothing. Ive tried all i can think of. Basically cwm comes on but i cant use it for anything. Instead i tried reinstalling cwm to try to fix it, but when i do it says "system cannot find path specified" so it wont download.
tl;dr version, cwm wont work at all after flashing xposed-disabler.zip. i cannot flash any recoveries or install anything through the usb. What do i need to do to fix this? because the system ui keeps crashing my phone is basically useless. thanks for dealing with a numskull..thanks in advance.
You can flash a stock rom with kernel using flash tool and then flash recovery and restore your backup.

why i didn't think of that, i dont know.
This worked as far as getting the phone to boot and whatnot, however the phone died and because it doesnt charge when it is off, i cant turn it on. it will boot and itll get all the way to the home screen but it immediately shuts back down, even though it is plugged in. Is there any way to fix this charging bug? i did some research and found it is linked to cwm, however now that i flashed the stock rom i no longer have cwm on the phone, so why does it still not charge when off? Thanks for the help by the way..

Stuck on the little android guy.

I guess there's nothing to be done, but I might as well try asking.
I had an issue with the tablet where it randomly shut the screen down. Haven't been able to figure out if it was a crash, it turned off or just the screen wouldn't turn on anymore.
So I figured I'd do a fresh install and flashed CM on it (had some other rom before). Same issue.
I tried installing yet another rom, but this time it turned off while installing.
Now it's stuck on the updating-Android-logo everytime I boot, both normally and with Power+Vol Down so I can't access fastboot or recovery that way. Leaving it on does nothing even after half a day.
Anything I could try or should I just scrap the thing?
