I tried to update to 4.4, but it gave me a blue screen. I can get into TWRP and Fastboot works.
However, it won't read it as USB on my Windows 8.1, but it sees it on my Windows 7 and OSX. I'm trying everything to get some from of OS running on my HTC One.
Please help me. I'm new to this and I'm scared out of my mind!
If you are soff then connect the phone in fastboot mode and run the google edition ruu.
If not Soff, then post your fastboot getvar all output

I have S-Off, so would I have to sideload the ROM from OSX to my phone?
If you have S-off then either run ruu or do fastboot flash ruu.zip.. Look up nik71 guide how to do that.

Both cid # and mid # MUST match the main-ver you want to flash. CID and MID require s-off to be modified.
i.e if you have a x.xx.161.x main-ver, you need corresponding MID PN0710000 and one of compatible CID like VODAP001 or VODAP102, etc... (Vodafone)
i.e if you have a x.xx.401.x main-ver, you need corresponding MID PN0710000 and one of compatible CID like HTC__001 or HTC__101, HTC__203 etc... (stock international)
If you have a CID that doesn't match your main-ver, your phone will not find any OTA update
If you have proper CID but wrong MID, your phone will find and download OTA, but will fail the update process.
f you want to convert using a RUU, both CID and MID must match otherwise the ruu will not flash.
copy/paste the output of this command
Code:
fastboot getvar all
minus emei and sn and it will be much easier to tell you what options you have.

Yes it should
So go to this thread and install adb/fastboot.
turn on usb debugging mode on your phone ''settings ---> developer option ---> check the usb debug box'' if developer option menu is messing from you settings menu do this: settings ---> about phone ---> tap the build number rapidly until you are prompted you unlocked developers option.
connect phone to pc via usb while phone is normally booted in Android (better to use port behind the pc instead of usb port in front. also i will recommend you not to use a windows 8.1 computer.

You'll probably encounter problem later in the process with win 8.1. Win 8.1 require hboot 1.55 for fastboot to work. During the process you will need to downgrade hboot to 1.44 to flash the international RUU. And your phone will not be recognized by computer when using fastboot and you will be stuck there. So better to find a windows 7 computer or maybe you could dual boot win 7 on the same comp.
now you should be able to continue with next step even with win 8.1
so start Minimal ADB and Fastboot, a command prompt should open. with phone connected to pc and usb debugging enabled, check that drivers are working properly with this command:
Code:
adb devices
should output this:
Code:
List of devices attached
HT(yourserial#) device

Try to return the device to stock. So the first thing you want to do is install the HTC drivers on your computer. Next find the RUU (rom) for your device here: http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/ruu-file-downloads/
Next thing is you want to boot into the bootloader menu and connect the usb. It should be in fastboot mode now. Now since you have S-On you will have to relock the bootloader before you are able to flash the RUU. I'm not 100% sure how to relock the bootloader but google is your friend. Once bootloader has been locked you need to boot the device in fastboot mode once again. once there you will have to run the following commands in command prompt.
use cd to change the directory to where you downloaded the RUU zip. ie if its on your desktop then it should be (assuming its windows):
cd C:\Users\"your Username here"\Desktop
next you want to run
fastboot oem rebootRUU
then once the htc logo pops up run
fastboot flash zip "the name of the RUU zip file".zip
The first time you run the previous command you should get an error like this:
FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)
Once you get this error run the previous command immediately. The RUU should now just flash the phone back to stock and you should be good to go!

you can change the CID to 11111111(SuperCID) and MID to PN0710000, that way any RUU would work. These forums should help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2182823
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2305490
sometimes my m7 can not be detected by my computer so giving commands to it is impossible.
then i restart my computer and its all ok.
you should try that
FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail)
that is the error i got when i tried flashing the ruu "RUU Zip M7 HTC Google Edition_3.06.1700.10"
Did you change your cid as in the previous post? To flash the Google play edition ROM you will need a the super cid or the Google one

Since your phone is unbranded I would go with the developer sense ROM. This might also need the cid change as well, but the developer ROM is the brightstar US one

you are in a conundrum at the moment. In order for you to change the CID you need S-off. So that would be the first step. Find a way to get s-off then everything should just work smoothly
*****Edit*****
Don't know why i didnt mention this before, but the google play edition rom needs s-off to work which is why it didnt work. So like i mentioned before try to install the brightstar US developer RUU. Also what is your CID ATM? You might need to install an RUU specific to your CID
---------- Post added at 12:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:46 PM ----------
you can get your CID by booting into fastboot and running this:
fastboot getvar cid
The biggest thing you need right now is to get back to a running rom. From there you can root, get S-off and then run any sort of rom you want. With S-on you are severely limited.
---------- Post added at 01:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:51 PM ----------
on second thought lets try and get you back up and running with viper rom as that seems easier at this point. As long as your bootloader is unlocked i think we should be able to do it. Do you by any chance have a USB OTG cable? It will help immensely if you have one.
The first thing you should do is get twrp custom recovery. from here:
http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/m7/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-m7.img
next you want to flash this recovery using fastboot
so navigate using cd to where you dowloaded the file as before
then type in command line
fastboot flash recovery "NameOfRecovery".img
after this you should now have TWRP recovery installed. Next you will want to boot into recovery and if you do not have a USB OTG cable then follow the instructions in this video to load the viperrom zip file onto the phone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CivvxcM1PCY
Once the file is on your phone. You will want to do a data wipe/factory reset in recovery. Now you can finally flash the rom and will hopefully get you back up and running.
Guys,
take it easy a bit, flashing RUUs, changing CIDs, Kindle Fire sideload youtube etc. is rushing things a little, especially with S-On!! ... and S-Off can wait.
especially without a "fastboot getvar all"
at OP, please start by
1- posting a "fastboot getvar all" (excluding IMEI and s/n)
2- what recovery you are running (name and version)
3- what does Windows Device Manager show (while in custom recovery) -> "Unknown Device" or "Android USB .. -> My HTC" (if it's the former then check my guide FAQ #2... disregard the guide only check the FAQ!!)
lol guess what guys, i jus got my device to accept the sideload command...i unplugged my device and plugged it back in and now it wont pick up sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok so im back in adb devices trying to push the rom, i reached as far as this command "adb push Rom.zip.zip /data/media"
but it says Permission Denied..why?
THANKS A BUNCH GUYS FOR UR HELP, I finally succeeded in doing it , i done it by sideload and nailed tht ****!!!!!!!!!!but cudnt do it without u guys insight, patience and help thanks

Check out the thread in the link below. Use the RUU for the HK Lollipop update. You'll need to relock your bootloader before running the RUU. After running the RUU you'll need to unlock your bootloader and reinstall TWRP. You can then flash a ROM.

You have to make sure you install the drivers in recovery, bootloader, and OS
ADB = OS and recovery
Fastboot = hboot/fastbootusb.
The waiting for device might be that you are not in fastbootusb

You can install TWRP and root just like you were on any other update. Android version does not matter. Just make sure you unlock the bootloader again, you can use the same unlock token from HTC dev. Then you want to install recovery
Code:
fasboot flash recovery recovery.img
After that, from fastboot, boot into recovery and then reboot system. If you use a newer TWRP it will prompt you to install superSU.
As the title of the thread goes, can anyone tell me what's the easiest and fastest procedure to root this device. I am not very much of a root-geek and therefore do not possess much knowledge in this rooting platform however I have rooted one of my previous phones Samsung Galaxy S3 and I remember it was quite easy and straight forward but then I decided to stay away from root for a couple of years but now I feel like experimenting again on my htc device. So could you please tell me how to root this phone. Rooting the m7 is fairly simple. Although there are many variants of the M7. Ensuring you use the correct files is about the most complicated part of it.
The procedure itself is the same for all types of m7 as long as you use the correct recovery and Rom for your particular variant.
You say it's unlocked so first question is. Do you mean SIM unlocked or Bootloader Unlocked?
Please can you post the Output of
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Please remove your IMEI and Serial numbers before sharing this info. For security you do not want to make those 2 numbers public. The rest of the getvar info will help to identify your exact M7 variant. :good:

So you'll need to unlock the bootloader first.
To unlock the bootloader, you'll need to create an account and follow the instructions at htcdev.com/bootloader.
You'll also need the sdk tools (fastboot and adb). You can download the sdk tools here: https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#Other
Be aware that unlocking the bootloader will wipe your userdata partition (factory reset) so backup your important files first.
Here a video guide how to unlock the bootloader, watch it first so you'll be familiar with the process.

The only way to backup your stock rom is using a custom recovery...
There might also be a RUU for your version if you want to go back to stock if needed, would need to see the "fastboot getvar all" to tell you if one is available. Btw rooting the phone will not turn your stock rom in a custom rom, it will only become a rooted stock rom.

I am still unrooted and trying to input this command but it does not work. It says Fastboot USB highlighted in RED and I have prompted a command window in the folder which you mentioned about.
I want to make sure before I unlock the bootloader that there is an RUU for my device in case I need to revert back later on as once the bootloader is unlocked my current partition will be deleted, is that right ?

No, the bootloader doesnt have to be unlocked to use this command.
You need to have the HTC drivers installed on your PC, and the phone needs to be detected in Fastboot mode by the PC for the command to work.

Need the output of the above command to be able to tell you if an RUU is available. But then, the M7 is a fairly common phone, and an RUU should be easily available. Where are you located? In all probability, I think this is an M7_UL

So its the EU model, will most likely be M7_UL, but run the fastboot getvar all anyway.
For drivers, a simple Google search for HTC drivers should provide links for HTC Sync Manager....plus several links on this forum itself. Pls use the search function

Is unlocking the bootloader the same as rooting a device ?
After I have unlocked the bootloader, what should be the next step towards rooting?

Thats the RUU you want. And I say this again, please DO USE the search function on XDA, or Google. There are thousands of threads and articles to be easily found on how to flash an RUU, how to unlock the bootloader, and how to root an HTC, the process is standard for all HTC devices

After unlocking the bootloader the next thing you need to do is flash TWRP Recovery.
Downloads here http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
Download TWRP 2.8.5.0 And put the image file in your fastboot folder.
Connect fastboot usb in the bootloader the same as when you did the getvar all. Then flash it with fastboot
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-m7.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
After it reboots select recovery from the bootloader menu and it will load TWRP. Then from the twrp menu choose Backup. And make a backup. Then reboot the device from twrp. You will get a notification asking if you want to install root. Select yes. The phone will reboot and will be rooted :good:

Thanks for all the info, is it easier rooting with TWRP like you just mentioned or CWM? I have heard from somewhere that clockworkmod is rather easier but I dont know the exact difference.

For the M7 TWRP is much better and preferred custom recovery. :good:
