I have an AT&T Galaxy S5 which I had successfully rooted and upgraded to lollipop. I was attempting to install a custom ROM and hard bricked the phone. After installing SafeStrap and flashing the custom ROM (Alliance ROM 9.1) my phone is hard bricked. Can not enter download mode or recovery mode, phone will not turn on, screen stays black. Is there any way to recover from this without sending it somewhere for repair? Thanks in advance.

To my knowledge, no. But i may be wrong. If you can't get into download mode then you probably need to take it to a Samsung service center ( best buy ). Where is that alliance rom located at ( thread ) you have to watch where you download them from because we have locked bootloaders and if they are using a different kernel this can happen. I pretty much stay to the AT&T based roms for this exact reason.
I had to send a few atrix HDs back to att if it's within a year use the warranty

Hi, My note is stuck at boot screen after the official OTA update. I tried googling but most seems to pertain to Rooted/flashed phones.
Mine is a new note which has not been rooted at all in the past. I downloaded to OTA update and it has been stuck at the bootscreen for the past few hours.
Any help appreciated!
1. Try pulling out the battery for a few minutes.
2. Boot into recovery mode and wipe cache and dalvik cache.
should i also wipe the data/factory reset in recovery mode?
No. God forbid, then you might end up with a superbrick
Thanks for your help

Unable to enter recovery mode
Hey I got similar problem, my phone gets stuck at Samsung logo screen. I am unable to enter recovery mode. When it shows android update screen after pressing recovery mode combination, my phone restarts.
Is there anyway I can get back normal mode without losing data on phone

Keep them pressed for 3 seconds more then you end up to recovery. They need to be pressed while booting the device from reboot or off state, then you will end up in recovery or download mode.

Yesterday, I received an OTA on my galaxy note and now it is also stuck in boot screen with the breathing samsung logo.
I tried to go into recovery mode using the 3 button combo, but it wouldnt enter into recovery mode. I get the green android logo with wire mesh and the phone reboots.
Can someone help me to boot my phone?
Got mine backup and running after OTA update gave me Samsung logo freeze issue
So after the 7MB OTA stability patch mine too was stuck on samsung logo.
Kies wouldn't recover it and putting into download mode or recovery mode didn't help. I too tried to go into recovery mode using the 3 button combo, but it wouldnt enter into recovery mode. I get the green android logo with wire mesh and the phone reboots but i didn't at the time try for 3 more seconds.
I then used ODIN and applied a downloaded Aussie Gingerbread ROM as i couldn't find Aussie ICS ROM. With my plan to do a Kies/wifi update to ICS. This caused acore and other processes to crash every few seconds. I then did a factory reset which got it stable and then tried to update to ICS but the phone said there were no updates available. Then I applied the international ICS using ODIN so i'm back were i was two days ago before the stupid 7MB patch.
Unfortunately, I don't think i can get anymore OTA updates but after the 7MB one i don't think i want to.
Long story short i think you should be able to go into recovery mode do a factory reset and it should be OK.

ODIN voids warranty?
I have the same issue after receiving 7MB OTA update. I am unable to go into recovery mode(same green robot and wire mesh etc...), so i am going to use ODIN method... but will flashing stock ROM using ODIN void my warranty?? I am not rooted.
Thanks.

Thanks.... but this is my aunt's phone, so rooting is not an option. I use HTC Hero... and we have RUU which we run on the PC and everything is restored to stock.... it removes root if you have it and also runs without root. Is there anything similar for samsung devices?
Also, now I am considering going for warranty repair... didnt want to do that at first as i have a really bad experience with HTC service centers... now lets see what samsung does..!!
Same problem here please find a fix!!

You don't need root to flash stock with PC Odin, and flashing any stock does not affect warranty. To use Odin you need phone in download mode (vol down, home and power until reboot into download)

Just flash it using the same os version you already have installed in my case I had the same problem with this little ota update and I've just flash it with the same ics version that was installed and my phone was back with all my stuff and rooted... once you finish doing the re flash you'll get an on screen message saying "Fail to update try using samsung kies on your computer" or something like that...
Thanks... but I went for warranty repair .. and I got it back in 2 hours..... unfortunately I lost all my data .. even on external partition. Now it is on ICS and still I have a notification for available update ... which I wont do.
Anyone has had success with that update?

Hi,
I managed to hard brick my SGN yesterday with the following symptons:
- The phone won't turn on (tried vol-down+Home+Power button)
- The are no light/sound indications.
- Odin does not recognize the device, neither does the computer when connected through USB.
- Tried changing the battery, no luck.
- Screen is all black without any functions.
- Unable to access the Bootloader, nor the Download mode.
My question is: I clearly need to send the phone to the Samsung service department to get it fixed or replaced, however are they able to see if the phone is rooted ?
The phone shut itself of while flash a currupt ROM onto it.
Thanks in advance.

You are not providing a single bit of useful info... So no one here can help you... My first and only advice while you don't provide the details.. (Wich rom where you on, method you used to flash this "corrupt rom" Wich kernel where you using... What else you did after "bricking" the phone)
Use a jig to go download mode, flash a gb rom via pc odin, use triangle away to remove the yellow triangle if any.. Read a lot more about the how's to for gnote

1. Downloaded CWM, and flashed it through my SD Card.
2. Flashed CWM-SuperSU-v0.87 on my phone. The phone got rooted without any issues.
3. Downloaded "[ROM][AOKP][4.1.1][27/08] Pier's vanilla 7000 AOKP JellyBean [jb-build-1]" onto my SD Card.
3. While flashing the ROM, the phone just suddently turned itself of.
- And this is were I'm stuck. No lifesigns at all.
Btw, it's a Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000

I'm not really sure what you mean @ points 1 & 2 of that, but...if it won't go into recovery or download properly, then there's a good chance the phone can't be recovered in order to notice that it's been rooted or that it's running a custom recovery.
Furthermore, Samsung's pretty committed to replacing motherboards in a hurry, since the whole emmc fiasco, so you've got a pretty good chance of it getting fixed by the warranty service.

Hi everyone. I have a rooted Galaxy Note 1. I accidentally tried to update something (the phone said there was an Android update or something) and now my phone in stuck in a bootloop showing the Android logo. When I try to reset it (volume+home+power buttons) it goes to an Odin "Downloading..." screen and gets stuck on that.
I've seen some stuff about unbricking the phone using Odin to return to the original stock rom. But from what I can tell, there are different stock roms available depending on your Country Sales Code (CSC). So apparently I need to look in Kies for my CSC to know which rom to download, but Kies doesn't recognise the phone, I guess because it's bricked. I know the phone is from the UK, but I don't know what network it came from (I bought it second hand). All I know is that it is unlocked now.
I have CWM.zip, CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip, and franco.Kernel-r5.zip on the micro SD card from when I was rooting it ages ago. Do these have anything to do with fixing it?
Any ideas on where I go from here? Thanks for your help.
Which volume button did you press ? You need volume up + home + power to get into recovery.
You can flash any rom from any region using odin.
Same problem
Hey,
Thanks for helping me in advance...
I used the Custom ROM (( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970626 )) Ultimate N7000 for a long time. However this build became more and more unstable the longer I used my phone.
So I decided to go back to STOCK.
So I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
And everything went well (Odin didnt give any errors)
However after reboot... the problem began... I cant turn my phone on anymore.... It seems to be stuck in a bootloop....
How can I fix this?? please help me
Which rom did you flash? If you flashed JB, boot into recovery and wipe data. Then reboot.
I rooted the S6 using cf auto root. I'm not quite a noob but please forgive my ignorance. I installed twrp and had been using the XtreStoLite rom for about a week. I was selling the phone so I wanted to reflash the rom so he could run through the setup him self. There were no problems flashing the rom. It was up and running. I was installing apps and the phone froze. I held down the power until it restarted. Now it is in an endless loop. The Galaxy S6 powered by android splash screen appears but it reloops before the Samsung splash screen appears. I can get the phone into download mode and I've tried to reflash the stock firmware, bootloader, stock recovery, everything. Odin recognizes the phone and it looks like it is working but as soon as it gets to NAND write it fails. I've been told it appears like the recovery partition was erased. I've used andnew versions of odin. My friend who knows a bit more than me tried backing up my working S6's efs and copying it to the bricked phone. He even did some stuff with my pit file. I'm at a total loss. I would send it back to Samsung but the phone is blacklisted by T-mobile and I don't want them to repo it. Any help is greatly appreciated and I would happily make a donation to anyone who can help me.
I guess I'll be the bearer of bad news here... You're screwed... Most likely. There is, however, a 0.0001% chance you can find someone who can make a copy or port of their recovery partition and TRY to put it on your device. This seems like a long shot, but it may be your only bet.
Don't count on this, as I have never personally seen it done before.

Try flashing unikernel v8 again inside twrp I bet it boots.
Side note never ever Advance wipe INTERNAL MEMORY
You'll wipe your internal memory backups the whole Firmware and even your boot.

I didn't read it all that you attempted Odin...
KEEP IN MIND
You have to odin the same firmware build you had on it stock So if it was OJC build YOU have to use Ojc You cannot go from a newer 5.1.1 build to one earlier anymore So try the latest build OJC
It won't fail I bet .
Duh. ???
Pp.
I have the same problem and when i turn to the download mode is written another model. I have tried several steps in odin came back failed. Anyone can help please support me.....
What's on the boot screen? If it says FRP Locked or something similar, you need to go into download mode (if possible), connect to ODIN and flash the stock ROM from Sammobile.com. It will flash the stock kernel, ROM, etc. DO NOT reboot your phone. Go to your settings, unlock developer options, and toggle OEM Unlock OFF. Then you can reboot your phone and attempt rooting again.
literally same **** happened to me homie
just did this ****

My Note 4 has been properly rooted and working fine until recently.
Today I decided to boot into recovery and clear some crap out.
It says RECOVERY but no menu, then the Droid dude flashes on and off a black screen.
The phone will NOT boot normally, only into this crazy recovery loop.
I can get into download mode.
My rom was stock, just rooted.
Please help me fix this.
Can I download a stock rom to my sd card, get into download and install from sd...In hopes of regaining phone access??
I can't wipe anything as I can't access recovery, so I'm hesitant about going custom right now. I really just want my phone working again, so I don't have to pay insurance deductibles for a replacement.
Please advise.

Have you tried using ODIN to flash the stock firmware
Sadly, my computer died last month, so unless I can borrow someone's, Odin is not an option currently...which is why I was hoping for a device only method.
Any thoughts??
Have you tried your local carrier to see if they can flash the stock firmware for you. They may replace the phone for free. Otherwise borrowing a computer would be my next step
So I've called Tmo, who had me call Samsung...because I've apparently done everything, and I could not regain access via ODIN...so Samsung has me going to Best Buy to see if the Samsung approved folks can get a software recovery working...
I'll let you know how it goes...
In the meantime, if anyone else has any suggestions besides ODIN...
Thanks in advance!
To anyone in a similar situation...
I am sorry, but I have no good news.
The final solution is to swap the device through my carrier.
ODIN did not work.
I could not get it to read the sd card/rom from the download mode, and the recovery menu never produced.
Tmo could not help.
Samsung could not help.
