[Q] Xperia z1 not charging due to wrong tempreature readings. - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday after a bit of browsing i connected my charger as battery level reached 2%. To my surprise the charging indicator din't appeared. I opened my battery monitor app to check the problem. It showed AC plugged in and not charging. The tempreature was -30C. After a little research i found out that phone does not charge under 4C. Now my phone is stuck at 1% with charger connected all the time. Since my phone is rooted i can change the value of that limit of 4C to -30C. My question is where can i find this file?

Maybe it's better to see why the temp reading is wrong? So instead of lowering the value in the system fix the temp reading, or that's what I'd do.
I really have no idea where to find the charging temp settings but I have a couple of suggestions, you could try to turn the phone off and see if it charges, or connect a magnetic charger charger, or connect both the magnetic and MicroUSB charger together while the phone is on/off.
Can't think of anything else. Good luck!

I have not done any software changes recently so its most probably a hardware problem. I have tried charging in switch off, its showing the current battery level instead of charging. Perhaps the sensors work even when the phone is off. Tried magnetic charger also, results are same as microusb charger. Changing those value is my last option.

Really??
I didn't know that! I've charged my phone with magnetic charger for some time,(a month, more or less) and it just died.
But it didn't die after using it, it died the moment I connected the magnetic charger.

Cannot charge with wall outlet

Recently my X1 cannot be charged with USB cable through wall outlet & even car charger , but able to charge with USB cable through PC.
Anyone do encounter the same problem?
Well that's a strange one - how long was it connected to the wall?
Without getting into the discussion about volts and amps provided, and amps drawn by the phone, any method should charge.
In terms of speed, I would think the wall would charge fastest (see above), and the USB slowest.
Did the phone show on the top bar, the charging icon when attached to the wall? Or after a period of time there was no increment in the % charge showing??
If the battery was down to 0%, you probably wouldn't see an immediate increase in the % charge. The % charge is orientative, especially at both ends of the scale.

I do agree with you. Charging with wall outlet is faster. Therefore, normally I'm charging my X1 with wall outlet, unless in office, will use PC USB.
Top bar never show charging icon, but once I charge it with PC USB, the charging icon show up immediately.
It seems like no power for the USB when connected to the wall outlet. I've tested with battery removed, plugged in USB cable connected to wall outlet, there is no charging illumination light. I cannot power on it.
I tried to recall, it happened after I used a USB charger for my MP3 player. The next day, when I tried to charge with car charger. To my surprise, the USB connection notification showed up (I do remember, while charging with wall outlet or car charger, it will never prompt me for USB connection).
I don't think, it is the ROM issue. Try a few ROM still having the same problem.
From now, I got to live with PC USB :|

I have same problem. I can not charge via both USB-PC and Wall. In order to charge the phone, I have to switch it off and then charge it.
This happened after I used CHEAP car charger from dealexteme.com
Now everytime I want to charge my phone, I have to switch it off.

I'm using the original SE charger!? I would not think the problem with the charger, but my X1 was screwed by the incompatible MP3 USB charger
Yep same with me, not sure why mine started doing that though, I never got used a cheap charger. Maybe its the rom... I am trying a new one now.

it's not caused by the ROM, I'm very sure. I've installed different ROM. The problem still exist.
I am having a similar problem. When the phone completely discharges , i am unable to charge it with any power adapter or even car charger. I have to initially charge the phone using a PC , then after the power is around 15% , then the phone gets charged with a normal adapter.. any suggestions??
same problem. It happends when the battery is completely discharged.
what I do is use a charger w/ low amp rating (.1) and plug it in for at least 10-20min. Give it some time, it will start charging after a while (indicated by the blinking lights). After that, you can turn it on and charge it normally
I had a similar problem twice. Both times I solved it by replacing the charger.
the same happen to me and i have another issue
my xperia doesnt work as usb mass storage!!!
the solution was buying another charger but..the usb mass storage issue still not working as a flash drive!!

[Q] charging issues, charges extremely long, stops charging randomly

Hey I was wondering if something is wrong with my device.
I am encountering weird things regarding recharging the device in reliability charging up.
So i am using the original charger which came with the phone, the phone is just like 3 month old i didnt notice anything like that earlier.
So when i am charging the device, sometimes it stops charging, Today I encountered it charging to like 56% and afterwards no more charging so when i got up, my phone was 14% left even when plugged in.
I encountered it several times recently that it stuck recharging at around 50-ish or 70-ish %.
charging usually takes up reasonably long. About 10% an hour. In Settings -> Battery it sometimes it displays USB even when it's charging via AC.
I am not running any fancy apps which drain the phone or clock cpu.
I am running 4.1.2 I9305XXBLL3 Rooted.
Anyone have any suggestion?

Samsung charger that come with the box really charge slow because it only supplies 1Amp.
But for your case seems different. Before checking the software side... have you checked if it's the charger or the cable itself has the problem? Try using other charger.
do you think a nexus 7 charger works fine w/o doing any (more) damage?
Many times it's because of dust and dirt collecting inside usb port. Clean it with compressed air or small brush and try again.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
i am aware that dirt might be the problem, but i've took my torch and put some light into the dark usb port to see if there's any dirt but everything looked quite clean to me. I don't have compressed air with me atm do you think a manual air blower used to clean dslr sensors can also do the job?
any other suggestions if the charger and usb port ( dirty ) is not the case?
Use toothbrush and tiny bit of alcohol ( can be after shave) on it to clean port. Do it when phone it's switched off. It's worth to try.
Did you try different charger?? This can be main problem. Many faulty chargers this days.....

i have been trying out the nexus 7 charger. it seems to be a bit faster but not as fast as i am used to be on galaxy s2 ... i used the air blower and a tiny bit of dust came out but not quite much, i will see how it performs.

Check the output voltage if same, a bit higher ampere would be fine just not too high, and not voltage.

Samsung charger provides 1000mah because that's the stock charging setting for the SGS3. You'd only need a different charger, like a N7 one if you change the settings to above 1000mah.
OP use current widget to see what current your phone is charging at. It should be 999mah from the wall charger, then you can change chargers and see whether it's the charger or your phone with the problem.

[Q] Cant charge with external battery

Hey guys,
I have the ZNEX Powerpack:
Capacity: [email protected],7V
Output: 5V 1A
amazon.de/ZNEX-Ausgangsleistung-Hochleistungsakku-Playstation-Blackberry/dp/B004A8288U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363106013&sr=8-1
Unfortunately its not possible for me to charge my s3 mini with this external battery.
The cable and the battery is okay, tested that with other devices.
Anyone can solve this problem or has it too?
Thanks

same Thing when i restart the phone with external battery plugged on, there just happens nothing, normal boot process without any hint of charging^^

What do you mean with "the one that cane with the battery power"?
Ive tried a lot of different usb cables they work all with the original charging-adapter but None with the external battery
tried it with the Amazon Basics usb cable, original Samsung data cable and the cable from the old Motorola xt 720 ^^
But thank you for the answer
strange.. when device is off can it charge or it doesnt charge at all with the samsung data cable. If it does charge while off, when its charging turn on the phone and it should charge as well.

Same problem here. No matter what external battery pack, this S3 mini is not detecting the battery pack as a charger. All of these packs work just fine with any other phone: tried with 2 SII, i8910, different Nokia phones, Blackberrry's etc.
I suspect that somewhere in the kernel there's no "3rd" unknown source or it has odd values, or it's somewhere else, but definitely soft problem as phone usb port works fine and recharges just fine from PC or laptop with any and every usb cable. Same goes for wall chargers. I haven't tried with car chargers just yet, but might do so. Just the phone is not mine, it's my wife's phone so I can't just take it with me.
Any suggestions?
Just a quicky: Is your phone trying or connecting to a PC in MTP mode?
XXAMA2 rom here and it always has only MTP or Picture mode, maybe this triggers something if on external power pack?
Edit: BTW, even when phone is turned off it won't charge the battery from the 3rd party external battery packs... weird.
Edit2: It started to charge out of 2.1A port on external pack after 5 minutes... then continued to charge once the phone is turned on. Later I unplugged it and plugged in again and it won't charge if the phone is on. Oh well, at least it can charge if first turned off. At least that when on the road and without wall plug...
Even more strange is what I'm getting now when plugging to Duracel external pack - phone starts the music player on it's own and starts to play... I think it's defo something related to MTP or such...
Strange. My power bank works just fine. The charging indicator shows when I plug my S3Mini with my power bank. (Cheap chinese brand. 5200mAh, 1.0 A)
Usually when the USB indicator showed up when you plug your external power source, the cable is the one with 4 lines (two for transferring data, and the other two for receiving electricity needed for charging, or +/- ).
Try using the USB cable with two lines only (electricity lines only, without data transferring lines)

Well, after trying all USb cables I have in my house I found one that is CHARGING IT!!! I dunno what wires it has or not and I don't care ATM. Point is there's nothing (EDIT) wrong with battery packs nor the phone. It all still indicates damn MTP kicking in where it shouldn't IMO. Dang Samsung for screwing it all up yet another time.
Still, I'm happy it CAN work all right, so no more depleted battery when on the road / trip
Thanks for a great suggestion there!

Veryyy slow charging

Went to a music festival over the weekend and used a portable charger to charge my phone, this is the last time I remember my phone fully charging. Once it died and I got back home, my phone would occasionally say USB connected and not charge until it said USB disconnected. Now it doesn't say that anymore but it charges ridiculously slow...
-Overnight charging I got 40%
-Left my phone for 3 hours and got 11%
-Use my phone while it's plugging into the charger and the battery still lowers rather than charging.
I've tried putting it in Ultra power saving mode and charging it while it's off but there is no big difference, I'm mad cause this cable is supposed to be charging it super fast.. Writing this post while my phone is plugged in I've already lost 2%
Nothing is wrong with my cord or the plug I am using, it's all the same stuff I have been using before. Could there be a problem with the port or something? Helppp
My phone is also in great condition always had a case, and just got it this past April
*also my phone is rooted so I don't think I can use the warranty

Are you sure? Cords die easily. Can you confirm how many amps the cord and the plug are allowing to be pulled? I've seen different phones pull different amps from different cords and plugs.
You can un-root and get back to a clean phone if you want to take it back.

check the power brick your using, if its the Samsung one that came with the phone it should be like 2 amps if I remember. id suggest using another power brick to test. also if you have a usb 3 super speed port on a pc or laptop sometimes you can use device manager in windows (start menu, right click computer, manage, in the window that opens click device manager, expand the universal serial bus controllers heading, check though any devices that say hub and go to their power tab) to see how many amps something is pulling from a pc usb. the other option is that you might have a defective battery but I don't know for sure. these are just some ideas that may or may not work for you.

Sounds like the portable charger might have been able to adjust amperage or voltage. If that's the case the portable charger could have damaged your battery if it was wrong amp and too high of amps. I have a portable charger that even changes voltage that could ruin a device too if not on 5 volts.

It sounds like it could be a battery problem. More likely, it could be a problem with the software. I would back everything up and flash another ROM or bring it back to full stock.
Option 1:
Install this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw
It will tell you batter voltage and charging current.
Options 2:
Charge with phone powered off.
Thank you everyone for the replies, my phones been getting worse to the point where it sometimes wont charge.
I think what im going to do is flash back to stock and bring it in to samsung or something , but also i heard a rumor that towelroot doesnt void the knox warranty? if this is true i may just bring it in as is...only becuase when i connect my phone my laptop wont read it anymore either, i havent tried if odin will but im assuming it would, i just dont want my phone to end up bricking because of the bad connection
This sounds like an old problem with Samsung phones, including the Galaxy S series. My original Galaxy S did this, my S3 did this, my sister's S3 did this. On those phones it was the charging port that caused the problem. My sister had her port replaced and her phone is working fine again.
Although I don't know for sure if that's your problem, that would be my first guess.

Question about fast charging on the Note 9

Hi...
For a while now I've had a problem with my Note 9 only displaying that it is regular charging when plugged into my fast charger plug and cable. I tried a numbr of troubleshooting steps from restarting, cleaning the port, trying safe mode, buying replacement fast charger and cable, factory settings, rooting but it still only showed as cable charging so I became convinced it was a physical problem with the port. Wireless fast charging continues to work as it should.
I recently installed AccuBattery and when plugged into my fast charger/cable, the charge current completely fills the the green bar to between 1800-2000 mA so now I'm beginning to wonder whether fast charging is working ok, but the phone is reporting it incorrectly.
Does anyone else know what kind of charge current the Note 9 should have when cable fast charging please? Also, just out of curiosity, what should it be when wirelessly fast charging too please?
Thanks for any help...

I know this is ridiculous question. Did you enable it in battery setting?

I started charging at 25%. With screen on I got 2700mah.
I left my phone off for 15 mins and stayed at that 2700mah average.
When I turned my phone screen on, I had 45% but screen on charge dropped to 1000mah.
If you look at the bottom of my screenshot, it explains why you need to turn your screen off to get accurate fast charge Numbers. Your phone might throttle the screen on charge if a certain criteria is met.
Once again. Did you enable it in the settings?
I am eagerly awaiting your response... [emoji3]

Thanks for the reply.
Hmmm the numbers you get do seem to suggest there is an issue with my phone. The screen off speeds are around the same as screen on.
Samsung quoted about £10,000,000 to repair as it's rooted and they have to replace the entire board to satisfy their warranty terms.
May have a go at replacing the charging port myself.
Thanks again :good:

I don't use fast charging, ever. So that's probably why my port still works. I have gotten so much dirt in it and cleaned it out it isn't even funny. So I'm less 6 to believe that fast charging is what ruins the port not debris.
A lot of people who use fast charging have the same issue as you-,it burns out the port.
Honestly, my advice is to love with fast charging over wireless and not spend a billion dollars replacing the port. Wait until it's time to replace the battery in a year or two and do it then. Fast charging over cable only saves you 30-40 minutes. I can charge and do charge my phone normally and it only takes around an hour and 40 minutes.
