My LG G4 is only 3 weeks old and it keeps crashing. It crashes sometimes when I'm on Google Maps, Facebook, sometimes when I'm getting a call. It's never the same app. Once it crashes, I remove the battery and restart it. Most times it freezes up on the startup screen and I have to remove the battery and retry multiple times. Once it gets past the startup screen, the following message displays: "Android is starting. Optimizing app # of #. This may take longer depending on apps. Do not remove battery until complete."
I did a factory reset a few days ago and it is still crashing the same way.
Help!
Sounds like you need to bring it back and get an exchange. I haven't had an app crash at all since I got mine a few weeks ago. I suspect some type of a hardware problem since you did a factory reset.
Maybe it's faulty memory/storage, which damages the data that happens to be stored in the cache areas of memory, so the phone loses it's brains each time. I know that Android will "optimize apps" when it needs to rebuild the cache data, so either you have something that's deleting or corrupting that data (virus? aggressive memory cleaner?), or the memory itself is faulty/hardware error.
Try to find consistenly repeatable crash after factory reset. Take it to Sprint and tell them you want a replacement. If they give you any trouble you can pull out the factory reset crash.
If LG is any good, they'll want to know how that phone got out the door.
My phone started doing the exact same thing. About a week or so ago it just crashed while checking facebook. It took about 5 battery pull out restarts then it started working again. This morning I was playing a game and the same thing happen. This time no matter what I did it would not stop crashing. I took it in and the tech thinks it is a hardware problem. Replace is on its way. I purchased a day one lg g4 and did have some touch screen issuses.
I too am have the exact same problem. Random crashes at random times even when I'm sleeping and not using it. It also crashes in Safe Mode. Multiple battery pulls to accomplish a successful reboot. I usually have to spend several minutes in Safe Mode to be able to accomplish a successful normal boot and have the phone functional for another half day or so. Sprint wouldn't replace it. LG won't send a replacement or loaner. They want me to send in my phone for repair leaving me hanging. This is a pre-order lease phone from before day one of store sales.
I am experiencing the random crashes. I'm trying to use a log recorder to find a culprit but nothing obvious so far. I do notice that the crash happens after doing increased activity on the phone. If I load a game it is sure to crash very shortly. I noticed while reading the scrolling log that the phone starts throwing temperature warnings. However, the phone doesn't feel hot at all so I am wondering if it is shutting down due to a faulty thermal sensor. However, the logs don't indicate anything to that nature before it crashes. I did notice the game I tested on was throwing memory warnings so that could be the problem as well and would follow in line to the randomness.
Can the people experiencing this problem answer these questions?
I rooted my phone: YES
If rooted, I disabled blotware programs: NO
If rooted, I messed with system files like build.prop: NO
I physically modified my device( ie, Qi wireless charging sticker): YES
I am using the stock LG Home Launcher: NO
My crashes seem to happen with cpu/gpu heavy applications: YES
I was having the same issue. I took it to a sprint repair center and they tested my battery and told me the battery was bad which was most likely causing the issue. I knew this wasn't the case as I had an extra batterry and was having the same problem with it as well. Nevertheless I took the new batterry they gave me and tried it for a few days. The issue persisted so i took it back in. The tech told me that an LG rep had been in since I was there last and told him some of the earlier phone processors were having issues with sprints software and signals(they had not experienced this issue with att and verizon). They have ordered me a new phone which should be here in a few days. So take it to a sprint repair center and have them order you a new one.

Just out of curiosity have you done the updates or did you block/not do them?
I just went through this and I think I figured out which app is causing the constant reboots. Mine was literally rebooting approximately 100 times per day (not exaggerating)...Use Titanium Backup and freeze "Android System Webview" so far that seems to have solve my issue. Hope this helps anyone experiencing this reboot nonsense! Good luck!
Been having a lot of weird problems with mine too that are very similar. I feel like this started happening after I rooted, but not totally sure. It seems to happen more after I start freezing apps and stuff. Eventually I'll try to restore the original system img and see if it continues. I had been running logcat to try to pick up some errors and I got this one which rebooted my phone.

Any further detail on this? My wife is having the same issues. They recommended the replacement battery but I know its not the issue. Would like concrete evidence for when we return.
Did they give you a brand new phone or a refurb?

I am also having these issues and I need to know answers to these questions as well. I am taking my G4 in to the sprint store this weekend for the second time, have gone through 2 factory resets so far. Meanwhile my girlfriends G4 that she got on the same day is working perfectly fine. The first time I went to the store the Tech was telling me that my only option thru warranty/TEP would be to get a refurb, and I will be extremely pissed if this is the case, considering my phone is practically in mint condition and has never been dropped, and I don't want some refurb that's got any number of things wrong with it that my original G4 didnt have wrong with it. (I have had zero issues other than the random crashing and reboots).
If anyone has concrete information that we can use to back up our cases it would be extremely helpful because it seems like LG and Sprint are being completely useless towards everyone regarding this issue. I have noticed it seems to be affecting mainly sprint customers, though I have seen an AT&T complaint as well with the same issues. Figures this is my luck when I decide to stick with sprint and paid 200 for the G4 with a new contract back in June when I coulda switched to T Mobile and got the G4 for wayyyyyy cheaper.

I was supposed to get a replacement phone in two days and I'm still waiting a week later. My phone is driving me berserk.

I am convinced it has to be a bad batch of phones that went out with the initial release. I went into a Sprint store and since I bought through Best Buy they didn't really want to deal with me and said I should try to claim insurance with Best Buy. I said I didn't want to spend $150 on the deductible for a new phone that was having warranty issues and have the off chance of getting one in the same batch and have this problem come up again in a month. I explained everything that was happening and the rumor about the bad CPU or just whole SoC in general. He scanned my phone and was going to take a look at it but the contract thing said they could charge me $75. He said that was only if they had to do work on it after he resets it. I informed him I knew how to do a factory wipe/reset and did it multiple times already to no avail. I also told him about the garbled screen problem and how Sprint stores used to do a swap with that issue but they backed out and are now fighting with LG and want LG to admit there is a major problem so wont replace phones till they do.
He said the LG rep was in his store just that day and he didn't hear any of this stuff and he would be calling him and then call me back if he hears anything. I never got a call. However, he gave me a different 800 # for LG that they use and told me to try with them if I didn't hear back from him. I will give him a couple days and try that number. He also agreed that going to LG is the best option possible because it would be highly unlikely LG would replace the phone with another in that bad batch and that there is no way for a Sprint store to tell if a phone might be from that bad batch. He also gave me assurance that LG does in fact replace phones. I had called LG prior to that and the rep from LG said they never replace phones but only fix them and replacements are only done by the carrier. The Sprint repair guy said that was bull and those first tier reps you get when you call the main number don't know what they are talking about.

I replied in another thread about garbled screen issues, but I bet the issue is related (bad flash/memory) or something very similar.
My response to the other thread is below but I feel it is relevant to what you guys are experiencing. I did get a new phone after sending in to LG and I feel the issue has been resolved. The double tap to wake seems to be working better as well with no miss touches.
I had the same issue where the screen would get garbled, show different colors (pink/purple/blue/green etc..) all screwed up. The camera app would crash when I would constantly switch from front facing to rear facing camera. My device got really slow had to reset/reformat it a few times. I thought it was due to rooting it or whatnot. I don't think that was it. I think it was a bad batch. I sent it in to LG two weeks ago and got it back today. Their message back on the paper was replaced flash/memory.
They actually sent me a completely new device. I think the touch screen issues are gone as well as the original issue. This feels like a brand new device not part of a bad batch. I'm glad I sent it in. You should do the same. It's probably part of the same problem posted in this thread. I'm a happy camper now.
Hey guys,
i too, have had the constant crashing. I tried the TOT restore method but even after i did that, it did not boot up all the way. It kept bootlooping at the yellow sprint spark boot screen. I bought it in June from Bestbuy so i cant return it. I am sending it back to LG for repair. Hopefully i get a new device. Id like to add that it is also in perfect condition with no damage at all.
LG told me to send it to them with just the phone and the battery. No sd card, back cover, and sim card. For sprint we have this white sim card, but do we remove that too or leave it in? I couldnt seem to take it out, if anyone could let me know please do.

Surprised they even wanted the battery if they didn't want all the other stuff but I guess the battery has a water indicator so maybe that is why. Weird that they don't want the back cover... maybe cause some of those are branded and with all the different colors they don't want to risk losing it and not having a replacement?
Anyway, the sim card is really hard to get out. On the right side there is black lever to push it out but it still doesn't come all the way out. You will need small pliers or something to get a little bit underneath it enough to pull it out further.
Did you sign up for the Bestbuy plan? I did and Sprint won't activate my old phone as Bestbuy has to do it. I was going to go into the store today to switch to my old phone so I can send this one to LG. Are you just going phoneless for the week or two? Just wondering if there was any issue getting Bestbuy to activate an old phone if you went that route.
Remember back in the old day where the carriers would give you a loner? Ahh, those where the days.

Today I went to the AT&T store to complain about the GPS issues on the Captivate. The associate (after looking the device over), gave me a flier/form and told me to take the phone to the local AT&T warranty center. The flier seems to indicate that the warranty center folks would either fix the issue or replace the device if they agree that my phone has an issue and is not (water) damaged etc.
Anybody have any experience with this?
I don't have any experience while owning a Captivate and going to the Warranty Center...
But when I had my Samsung Impression, and the phone display (it was a touchscreen with a slideout keyboard) completely stopped working, it wouldn't register any touch at all, I took it to them, they turned it on, tested that it truly didn't work, and they gave me a new phone (might have been refurbished) on the spot. Walked out with a smile on my face and went on with my day.
Same experience with two LG Xenons with bubbles under the screen. On the spot replacement within 10 minutes after they verified that the moisture sensor was clear.

Refurbished phones are the replacement. Very easy to deal with.
I had the same thing with my wife's Bold - warranty center didn't really try to fix it, just did the replacement. You have to make sure to do the data wipe before the exchange, and they can't do much in terms of data transfer. Process itself is very quick and straight-forward.
For my captivate GPS I just did a mail replacement. Gives me the time to swap everything at home with no pressure.
Funny you should ask. I'm currently dealing with a warranty exchange via phone and mail. I called customer support and told them about the random shutdown issue. They transferred me to the "Android" department. The Android department has heard about this so-called random shutdown issue so they sent me a replacement (refurb) phone after asking me questions like "Has your phone ever been dropped?" "Are there any damages to the screen?" "There is a square sticker right next to the 3 golden battery connector prongs. What color is it?" (FYI. If your phone gets wet, that white square will turn to a different color! Mine is still white. Never been in water. Anyway...)
They sent me the phone yesterday and today I turned it on. There was a new problem. It randomly takes me back to the Home screen when I'm just casually browsing the web, flipping through my apps, etc. It doesn't force close the app or system that I'm on. I just boots me out of whatever I'm doing and shows me the Home screen. So, I called to tell them about this problem. It is now in a box that it originally came in and it's waiting to be shipped out. They will give me another Captivate in the mail by Friday.

The Warranty Repair Center in my town doesn't stock Captivates. They'll take a look at the phone to see if it was damaged or submerged, then tell you to call the 800 number. Or, you can skip driving in to a warranty center and just call the 800 number. The people there will talk you through some basic troubleshooting, then ship you a replacement (ground is standard, you can pay for an upgrade to overnight). You have 10 days after that to return your phone.
As for your GPS problems.... if you've upgraded to JH7 and can get a solid lock out in the open under a clear sky, well... Sorry to disappoint, but your replacement phone is probably going to have just as many problems with the GPS. I do (and I'm on my 4th Captivate), so do 7 of my friends and coworkers who have Captivates, and so do about 90% or more of the people reporting on the forums.
According to AT&T and Samsung, the JH7 update 'addressed the GPS issues'. And it did make it better... Before, it would just about never lock on. Now I can usually get a lock within 10~20 seconds and it'll show me where I should be.... until I go for a drive.
The test is this: install My Tracks and go for a drive around town. Once you're done, take a look at your track.
If you've got a softtop convertable or a fiberglass roof, you're good.
If you've got the phone far forward on the dash and have a large, steeply raked windshield, you're good.
If you've got a large sunroof, you might be good.
Otherwise, you're stuck with a measured 50m~100m accuracy (it reports 15m~30m, but don't believe it) if you can even maintain lock.
Good luck!

Very easy to deal with IMO. I am on my 3rd captivate.
1st one experienced random shutdowns, 2 days later received second one in mail and wouldn't get any network signal, 2 days later my 3rd and hopefully last captivate was on my doorstep.
All you have to do is send in your old unit. I was satisfied with the android people over at ATT.
Dealing with AT&T is MUCH more pleasant then dealing with Samsung for your warranty support. They're quick, they're nice, and they get you in and out in about 30 minutes.

Yeah, I don't think it's that. It wasn't just on the Browser. It was also doing it while I was just flipping through the apps or reading an email using the stock email, or SMS, or looking at Settings. Anything I was on, it booted me out and took me to the Home screen. I returned it. I'm getting my 5th Cap today.
Thanks for all the replies. I'll post my experience if it turns out to be any special or interesting.
One other question. My phone is currently rooted. Should I spend effort unrooting it or it should be fine?
Unroot it and/or flash it back to original JF6 using ODIN One-click. If you've installed Froyo, do a Master Reset so it'll delete traces of 2.2 folders and whatnot. Backup first!
Pleasant experience
I went to the AT&T warranty center last weekend and was in and out of the store in less than 10 minutes with a new Captivate in hand. It was an extremely pleasant experience.
Just want to say that this replacement device (new and not refurbished) locks the GPS in about 10 sec inside the car and even faster under the sky and remains spot on. This leads me to believe that it may be some batches of device with buggy hardware with GPS issues.
Thanks

When I asked specifically whether the device was refurbished, I was told that it was new unit, as the refurb units have some red sticker on the device (when you take the battery out). Either way it does not matter to me as this unit works perfectly including the GPS.

Looks like you were lied to.
Unless if you were still under your 30 days, which would put you under the buyer's remorse program [completely apart from Warranty], then you'd be receiving a new model.
+ most Warranty Captivates are affected by the random shutdown issue, as they aren't scrapped if they're under the affected IMEI range.
You're using a refurbished Captivate, all in all.
My first phone was rooted and then the random crashes started. It got so bad I couldnt turn the phone on unless I did a battery pull then with the charger plugged in and finger banging and milking a cow at the same time.
I finally got it into download mode and went back to stock. I went to the tech center explained what happened and she replaced it right on the spot and gave me a NEW phone, battery and charger. BUT she gave me my old battery cover. :-(
Sent from my Captivate.
Had my Nexus 6 for 4 months now - originally had it on stock for a couple of months, it would constantly power off, usually when battery was less than 20% or when trying to access the stock camera or random apps.
So to try and resolve the issue I rooted the device and have now tried practically every ROM available and still have the same problem
Currently running SaberMod 5.1 with Vindicator kernel and the problem still happens.
Tried PA, CM12, PAC, Vanir, Chroma, Euphoria, LiquidSmooth, Terminus....you name it I've tried it.
Will probably be returning it to supplier but before I do would like to know if anyone has had similar issues - is this because of a bad batch of Nexus 6 phones? I guess it's hardware/battery related - but wondered if any software fixes were available?
I have started to face the same problem, mine shuts off usually below 10% but it's only a month old, so disappointed with nexus 6,not only was it effing expensive, it's not the premium device that Google boasted about with so many bugs, which include the speaker crackles and random shutdowns
Totally agree, why pay for a premium device to be plagued with problems?
I was going to try and find if there was a fix but might just return the device.
Really disappointed I expected a lot better for such a high end device.
FWIW, I've had the 6 since November 26th and don't have any issues. I'm sorry you've had issues but that doesn't mean the whole lot is bad. RMA and get a new one. There are issues with every device after it's launched, go to any forum and you'll see what I mean. You can't label the whole line defective just because of a few isolated problems.
I wasn't suggested all Nexus 6 devices were faulty, I was querying whether or not there is a faulty batch, as this is definitely an issue and seems others are havin g it too.
Seems as if the battery dies at certain times and when using apps such as the camera.
Will definitely be returning it now

I had the same problem as well (especially when I used the camera), and I believe that there was a batch of phones made in December and early January that had a bad batch of batteries. I am only speculating this because when I called into Motorola support, they asked me when I bought my phone (I bought it at the end of December and received it the first week of January), and then they asked me if I had a bulging back issue as well. If you search around this forum and other places on the internet, quite a few people who bought the N6 in December had issues relating to power or the physical battery in one way or another.
Motorola and Google acknowledge that there is an issue with the batteries in some of the Nexus 6 phones, and when I sent my device back to Motorola, they sent me a replacement device without issue once they looked the phone over.

Thanks for getting back to me with this - I guessed there was an issue but didn't want to return the phone unless I was totally sure, so thank you again for clarifying this.
I am not happy to be returning it but looks like this is my only option.
I have the very same problem with my N6 bought in December 2014. Have tried factory reset multiple times without luck. I just gave it for service. The guy there said they would try reflashing the firmware and if that doesn't work I'll be given a replacement. I'm from India btw.
I'm having a similar problem.. I could have 100% charge, take a picture and the phone will shut off and tell me it's dead when trying to turn it back on. After waiting about 2 minutes, it will attempt to boot. It goes through the whole "Optimizing apps 1/xxx" thing, then goes to "Finishing boot" and shuts off again, and repeat. The phone will not fully boot until it's plugged in. Also the phone is acting sluggish. This started on Euphoria ROM, but I since have flashed stock 5.0.1 and locked the bootloader, then accepted the OTA to 5.1. The issue still persists with stock, and factory resetting a few times after the fact.
I also noticed the back cover is lifting away from the frame of the phone, so the battery is probably swelling.
On a bright note, I've contacted Motorola and described this issue, plus a couple of more I'm experiencing (burn-in, odd sounds when the phone vibrates) and I'm now waiting on my replacement phone with no questions asked.
Here's a screenshot of the battery issue (36 minutes of Screen-on time)

Almost exactly what happened to mine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/refused-repair-moto-uk-device-rooted-t3077271/page2
TL;DR:
Dear xxx,
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
I have now heard back regarding your Nexus 6 unit. After carrying out the initial repair the engineers at our repair centre then discovered a more serious fault with the battery on the phone as it started to swell during their testing.

So if your phone is randomly shutting down when their is plenty of battery, and/or does the optimising 0/xxx apps at start up - get ready to RMA because you don't want a swelling battery and a possible explosion/fire...
I've submitted the device to their service centre and awaiting replacement.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My device has been returned and will be replaced, no questions asked, as it is a recognised faulty phone.
So to re-iterate, all I was wanting to clarify was if there was a bad batch of Nexus 6 phones and whether or not mine could be one of them - and it looks like that seems to be the case.
I wasn't in any way saying the whole line of phones are bad but it's good to clarify that there is a bad batch out there and the suppliers are willing to replace them
Same exact symptoms
100% charged phone. Start doing something...anything...and it just blanks off. No warning. On startup, it does the app optimization, all the wifi passwords are reset, and unless it is plugged in, it will probably restart before optimization completes.
I had the google nexus case with stand, and didn't notice anything, but after removing the case, the base is noticeably bulging in the center but not at the top and bottom.
For $800, my even with a repaired phone which I hope rectifies the issue, my expectations are higher for a flagship google phone that I paid full price for. This is indeed either a design or manufacturing defect of the piece part or he assembly if it has to do with the charging process...IMO

Yes on all points there. The random turn off when doing anything, app optimisation (very long) wifi passwords gone (very annoying) and restart again while optimising. And the resultant swelling battery..
It seems very few of us have experienced this, thankfully, but very worrying, I certainly wouldn't get another moto device after this.
Sounds like the very common battery calibration problem, which can be reset by following a set of instructions in the bootloader. Look around for them.
Bumping this as I think I've found the root cause of this problem. Are you guys using Google Fit? The replacement that I got was working fine till two days ago when I initialized/started using Google Fit. Device turned off twice. Then I disabled the app and the shutdown hasn't happened till now. If you guys are using Google Fit, try disabling the app and monitor it for a couple of days.
Well I managed to get a replacement phone from GiffGaff and guess what - same issue again!
Battery overheats, crashes on Camera App, resets WiFi, random app crashes
Have tried several ROMS including Android M to see if there is an improvement but unfortunately not - will try disabling Google Fit now and see if that helps but so far I'm really disappointed.
This device is supposed to be top of the range flagship Google model but for me it is a resounding fail.
I have got the same problem , but i cracked the top of my screen when i had the phone after a month , when i called Motorola they said they could take to repair but would cost £120 to fix screen as they cant send back with screen damage. Really frustrating as i know the screen isn't the fault. Anyone got any ideas ?
I know this is an old thread but I've had my nexus for quite a while and it just started doing this when I flashed a 7.1.2 rom. Went back to complete stock and still have the issue. I noticed on the 7.1.2 roms that the battery wouldn't read correctly on the indicator and now back on stock it reads correctly but still crashes. I think the battery may be dying or be damaged after almost 2 years.

Boot into fastboot, find bootloader logs and hold power for ~10seconds (till it resets by itself), best done on full battery, may help, if not you can try to calibrate the battery (requires root tho). If all this fails only thing left is to change the battery. Takes about 20mins and costs like 20-25usd (easy to do by yourself
Hi guys.
I'll get to the point and say that I got this phone towards the middle of July to replace my failing Optimus G and it's already having a multitude of issues.
The phone worked great through heavy usage on a week period at the beginning of the month while I was travelling. Two days ago the right side of the screen began to freeze, either showing colored static or what was previously loaded. I note that the screen still works fine even inside of a different app, pressing buttons, etc. but continues to freeze and load what is actually going on a moment later. Happens on both the recovery mode screen as well as the lock screen.
Now, the phone also began to have crashing issues some time last week. I was playing Fallout Shelter when the device suddenly crashed. This hadn't happened with Fallout Shelter or any other (heavier) games at all since getting the phone. I rebooted and later was playing WWE Immortals when the phone crashed when going through the logo and copyright screens. After this crash, however, the phone went from around 50% battery to 0% and needed a charge.
I thought this was a fluke last week until it did it again yesterday... multiple times.
Last night the WWE Immortals crash happened again but the phone remained at 100%, where it was since it had been charging, instead of dropping to 0%. It powered on after popping the battery and pressing the button. Later on in the night, I was checking my email when the phone crashed out of nowhere. I once again popped the battery and it booted. However, this time, it would not load past the Sprint screens after the LG/Powered by Android one. It just hanged on the Sprint logo. It sat there for ten minutes until I took the battery out. I tried again and it wouldn't get past the LG screen.
I attempted Recovery Mode, which works of course, and cleared the cache and rebooted the phone. Once again, it crashed on the LG screen. I gave up for the night and tried again today. Same thing happened a few more times until the phone finally booted. I get in and try uninstalling apps to clear space to bring the phone to 11 of 32 GB free. I go to check what other "misc." data is eating up storage when the phone crashes again and I haven't successfully gotten it to boot again.
Should I attempt a factory reset? The closest Sprint store is miles away (I live in downtown Indianapolis and there isn't one nearby without taking a long walk or bike ride or bounce across bus lines, whatever) and the last time I got help from was just a new phone (replaced a phone because it's screen was broken, yeah, right. I went somewhere else to get a replacement the second time it happened). I feel like this a big hardware issue a reset wouldn't fix but, who knows.
I guess I should also note that, within the past week, my camera apps (be it the stock camera app or Snapchat) crash when using the front camera and it never loads a preview before crashing and the phone has been oddly hot (be it when I was cleaning up apps, idle, or just when attempting to boot) the last day. Also, as I was typing, I've been attempting restarts and cache clears and Recovery Mode, during one of the tries, never even loaded the options and a power button press restarted the device.
...At this point I'm just curious what exactly could mess with a phone this much. I refuse to believe it's any kind of virus since nothing was ever picked up and I know my way around the internet. I like LG phones, I loved my last one (other than it didn't have an SD card slot, but, eh, cloud storage!) and I like the cameras.
Phone is an LS991, unrooted.
From what I have been gathering(and this is all hearsay!) is that the first batch of these phones have serious hardware problems that might be related to the CPU. The best option would to try and get LG to replace the phone as they are less likely to have a phone in stock still that was part of the bad batch. If you can't get them to do it then try a Sprint repair store and see if they will swap it out. Be clear that this a warranty issue and not issuance issue. As a last resort you have to claim insurance on it.

Well, that's somewhat depressing to figure out that they messed up part of the batch but that always happens if it's true.
Guess I'll have to check with LG or get someone to drag me to Sprint to see what they say. I'm not one for getting insurance on tech (and given I got the phone for cheap, being due for the upgrade and all) but hopefully warranty can help me out. Thanks for the heads up!

Spoke with LG last night and the customer service rep was pretty clear that LG does not replace phones they only "fix" them. I would not trust LG to give you a new phone at this point as they will most likely just re-flash the phone and send it back to you. Unless anyone else who has dealt with LG repair in the past can say otherwise I wouldn't go the LG route. Now, if someone bricked their phone that might be a good thing to try since Sprint repair can't flash phones but if you need a new phone it looks like Sprint is the way to go. Just make sure you are clear that this is a warranty issue and not insurance. I bought my phone at Best Buy so this will be interesting for me as they probably will want nothing to do with me since I don't have TEP. I will report back on if they give me the shaft or not because I am sure others might be in the same situation as me.

Late reply is late, whoops.
That's interesting. Never really intended on the LG route since I've never had issues with Sprint replacing a device in the past so I'd go to them before anyone else (which we are, when my mom comes down to help me out with this since the closest store is just too far away and it's her cell plan).
And man, I wouldn't be able to stand buying from BestBuy but that's my personal qualms with them, hah. Hope you had good luck with them.
Hi. We have c got the same phone. Got 4 of them and 3 working great but my husband's is doing the exact same thing as yours and like you we have no insurance and had same reply from lg. And best buy was no help at all. Wondering if you figured out how to fix it or not
Forgot to mention we are verizon not Sprint. Not sure if that matters.
Just got my G4 replaced with a brand new one at Sprint. I have TEP, and they said they'd normally order a refurbished one. But, I got lucky since there are no refurbished ones (they're on backorder, probably due to these issues), so they just gave me a new one.
Lets hope this one one wasn't a lemon like the first one...fingers crossed because I love this phone...
We called verizon and they are over nighting a new phone. Thank you for the reply tho
This happened to me as well. It crashed maybe twice a day and now I can't get it on because it is crashing 1000 times. Its stuck in a crashing loop. Sprint is giving me a completely different g4 when their next batch comes in. It has been 2 weeks and I still don't have a new phone. I am hoping that I don't get this problem again or I am getting an iphone 6.
I'm not sure what happened, but when I woke up today my G4 was stuck on the LG logo. If I pull the battery and put it back in, it will start booting by then freeze on the yellow Sprint logo, and then start rebooting again. The second time it doesn't leave the screen the LG logo. I've not changed anything on the device (rooted, ZV5). It's been rock stable until this mysterious event.
Any ideas, comments?
I'm going to see about trying to reflash stock (maybe I'll go past ZV5 now).
Oh, crud. This sounds exactly like my problem, and my serial starts with 505.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lg-g4-stuck-bootloop-t3268734
Yes I also had the same symptoms, but it happened while I was at a Sushi restaurant and my phone was safely in my pocket. It turns out it's the dreaded bad motherboard, and the only solution is to initiate a repair through LG directly (if you prefer to keep your existing phone), or if you have the repair warranty, you can try your carrier but that risks getting a refurb unit that may have other problems.
Some people report temporary success by either freezing the phone, or even baking the phone. But these are temporary only, just to give you enough time to retrieve any important data before the phone resumes the bootloop problem due to bad soldering on the motherboard.

Thanks!
Sprint has in fact ordered me a replacement that I can pick up today. Does LG really just replace the mainboard with a new one, or do they give out refurbs, too? If Sprint only has a refurb for me (which I suspect), I wonder if I should decline that and ship it off to LG instead.
FWIW, I tried freezing the phone, but it had no effect on the problem. I see in the other thread most people had no luck with cold, but lots of luck with baking it. I don't really want to try that, though. My backup is 2 months old so I'll just have to live with kicking myself for not doing my monthly backup on schedule.
In my situation, I got back the same phone from LG with a new motherboard. I had noticeable markings on the outer frame that were right in the same spots on the returned phone, so confirmed it was the same frame. The label under the battery was the same too.
One thing I noticed was a new single piece of dust under the camera screen, so that again confirms they are disassembling. I plan to open my phone to add heatsink pads, and will remove the dust at that time (It doesn't affect the pictures noticeably, and I wouldn't have seen it if I didn't closely examine my phone to see if it was the same phone).
Anyway I personally had a bad experience with an old refurb phone years ago, so I preferred to go through LG service, not Sprint.
What ROM did you phone come back with, and how long ago did you send it in? I'm hoping they are not sending out ZVB (yet), because then I'd be stuck on Marshmallow without root.
I'm about to head out to the Sprint store tonight; if it's a refurb and on ZVB I will definitely not let them replace it, and will instead roll the dice again and RMA it with LG. If it's just a refurb but ZVA or earlier (which allows me to rollback to ZV6 and get root), I'm not yet sure what I'll do.
______
The replacement I got from sprint is a refurb with ZBA.
Oh, as for what ROM, at the time I think they had just released ZVA. My phone was on the earlier ROM, but they returned the phone with the latest ZVA (at the time), so if I were to guess, I think you will get the latest ROM, which right now is ZVB.

Thankfully I got ZVA, so I'm about to downgrade it to ZV6 (which is safe: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-g4/development/howto-downgrade-to-zv6-upgrade-to-t3265976)
Hi All.
Battery stuck on 50% won't change even when charge or discharge. Today it randomly shutdown in my pocket. and then had a battery symbol with a ?. The phone eventually turned on, I've tried turning off location, rebooting still having issues. Sometimes the battery saving mode stops working, i.e. it cannot be turned on. As I can see the problem concerns a large group of users and nobody knows what this problem is related to. Google is silent as usual. Is this a problem with the software or components ?! I am in a bad situation because I have no warranty for the device and I do not know where to send the phone in Poland because no one knows what is the cause of the problem. Help me please.

Had this.
This is going to sound dumb:
Shut your phone off.
Now squeeze the phone around the G logo on the back (like you're trying to compress it).
Now turn it back on and charge normally.
This is potentially only a temporary fix as I have no idea how this would be software related.
If you can enter bootloader mode, you still have chance to save your phone by yourself :
(1)Make sure there is fastboot&ADB tool in your computer
If you don't have it, please download from here(https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools). To click the one depends on which one of OS you have and then install in your computer
(2)Download google factory image file from here(https://developers.google.com/android/images). To choose the model of your phone and download it then extract file.
(3)Reboot your phone to bootloader mode. Then use USB cable and make phone connected to your computer USB port. Then execute the window commend mode. key in
fastboot devices ===> make sure your phone being catched by your computer
flash-all ===> To build up a whole new pixel OS in your phone.
Good luck !

Ive had my pixel 4 xl since november and it just started automatically shutting off when in my pocket all by it self a few weeks ago , took cell phone to my sevice provider and they sent it in for repair ...received a new phone ...well refurbished p4 xl only to have if start happening again days later and have the 50% battery start happening also ....contacted google and they are in the process of sending me a new refurbished p4 xl , so this will be my 3 rd p4 xl ..lol
very frustrating to say the least ....ive had to hard reboot my phone at least 20 times a day or basically keep it out of any pockets , the is common issue apparently with pixels phones from what i've read in the link https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/22397169?hl=en
I've talked with loyalty department at my service provider and if it happens again with the pixel that google sends me , then they will allow me to void my contract and supply me with a new device from a different brand ...ie Samsung or apple or whatever else is available on the market right now on there website.
i'll be really bummed if i have to switch to a samsung or apple buuuuuut need a stable device ...lol
So to anyone having this issue that still has a basic warranty, there are at least 2 options ...rma device over and over till you get one that doesn't have this problem or contact service provider and explain your situation and most likely they will be understanding to the fact that you have purchased a 1200.00 phone that requires constant rma's and hopefully allow you to exchange for a different brand of phone that doesn't have this these problems

I fully understand you. I am in a worse position. As a loyal Google fan, I bought my pixel from someone who didn't have a proof of purchase. In Poland it was difficult to get it, and as it was 1.5 times more expensive than everywhere else. It seems that I can throw out the pixel and buy another phone for a lot of money. I am most annoyed by the company's attitude. It looks like they are xxxxx on us.

This is the "No Warranty Solution" : Flash a full factory image and allow it to completely wipe your phone. This is the second step Google support would give you (the first is doing a factory data reset from Recovery). If after flashing your phone, restoring it to the original "out of the box" state, you still have a battery issue, then the next step is to replace your battery. If you forgot to state in your OP that your bootloader is still locked (so you can't flash the image) then you need to do that first. Bottom line is you need to factory reset the phone to rule out a software issue. If the restored phone still has the same problem, then you need to focus on the hardware. Best of luck. :good:
Yes, it does !

Same happened to me with 4 XL 64.
I've been able to "fix" with the turn off and squeeze but the problem has turned into the battery discharge displayed gets stuck at a percentage and it won't charge. I have to turn off & squeeze to get it back.
Finally called Google and they are making me send my phone in for repair. Now I assume for turnaround sake, they'll just send me a new refurb back. That also means I'm not confident the problem will be resolved as there are over 150 replies on the Google Support page identifying this problem.

Looks like some folks are getting a replacement before sending the problem phone back but others are required to send it in or drop off at repair facility.
Good for me? I have Preferred Care and I'll keep sending them back until I get one that works.
Bad for me? I'll have to keep sending them back + I splurged on the orange color so I doubt I'll ever see that again.
I've actually dealt with this. This is a hardware issue. I had the same problem. Covered by warranty, I took it to ubreakitifix after contacting Google and they took care of me. Trust me this isn't a issue where you can flash this or squeeze that. This is a hardware issue on Google's part. There's nothing you can do as a phone user about a defective battery in a 6+ month old $1000 phone

You might be able to convince them to send you a device before you ship it off, citing the current global situation and a need for a cell phone
OP lives in Poland and has no receipts or warranty. Poland is not a supported country so he is looking for "non-warranty" solutions.

The return process was pretty great. I shipped my existing phone off on a Monday (Illinois to Texas) and by the following Monday, I received my exact phone back (has a screen protector on it). I was very satisfied with that. HOWEVER, the "repair" still has an issue where if I charge to 100%, the icon stays at 100% until I reboot and then it'll display the correct battery %.
The repair documentation was a bit vague and said they replaced the "charging port". I still believe there's a unannounced hardware issue. Can anyone say, class action????

I wonder what the next step would be if I started another repair claim?
Holding the power button down for more than 3 consecutive seemed to solve a similar issue for me. My P4 was holding certain percentages for too long (even though the phone actually lost more).

This post seems to have been ignored. If it happens to me, I'll try that. But my carrier purchase didn't qualify for Google extended care add-on. Standard warranty only. Does that make a difference in what Google would do in this case?
I use Accubattery and monitor charge cycles for "battery wear". Even following "Battery College" recommendations, battery health has dropped from 99 to 95%; I've had the P4XL since November. I'm now slowing the charge, getting away from power delivery to see if that helps slow the wear. SOT varies greatly per charge.
I use a belt pouch for carrying phone while away from home. Rarely, I put it in my pocket but do so at home- front pocket only- never back pocket. May just be bad phone batteries from what I've read.

For 5 weeks my Pixel has been in the authorized repair center in Germany. They don't have parts to fix it. They told me that. It is not known how long this may take. I haven't had such a circus with a good smartphone. I love Google products, but I feel very disappointed because Pixel cost me a lot of money and this is definitely a factory defect.

Sorry to hear this, and surprising, as Germany is a supported country with many authorized repair centers. Did you send it to PSC? They claim to be Google-certified and have all factory parts? COVID-19 may also be delaying things. Hope things turn out well for you. :good:
