S5 speed help - Galaxy S 5 General

Currently own an s5 and wondering how I can speed it up and debloat it. My storage says I only have 12 out of 16 gig left but I hardly have any apps installed. I checked to see what is taking all the space up and is saying other files....another issue I noticed ever since I uprated to lollipop was battery drains faster than usual. What is the best way to remedy these issues? Does the latest update fix any of this or do I need to bounce back to kit Kat or even do a custom rom? If anyone can help I would appreciate it I am on Verizon.

[Q] Why is it soooooo slow?!?!

I came from a Nexus 5 with ART enabled and it was SOOOOO much faster and more responsive than my Nexus 6. Yes, I know that the Nexus 6 has that god aweful encryption crap, but even the benchmarks with it on show it as being faster. I am running stock, barely have any apps installed, have animation speeds at .5, and yet I lag hardcore even when Im just typing. I havent been on a device this laggy since my Galaxy S2.......Is there anything I can do? Or am I SOL until they release a fix?
Hmm strange I have never noticed lag when typing seems like an everyday thing to do, your not thermal throttled by any chance are you??

Not that Im aware of.......I REALLY dont want to root my device (yes I know, then why have android). I like the stock experience, and I used to root all the time but I got SO sick of all the bugs in roms
I know what you mean with not wanting to root, I was adamant wasn't rooting..lasted a day.
^ you lasted longer than I did. 5 hours.
I made it a few days without root, but ultimately succumbed...
Still stock ROM and encrypted though. My N6 flies. No lags anywhere. I let a co-worker handle the beast over the weekend, he has a Note 3. He liked how smooth and fluid Lollipop is.
I can only suggest OP is experiencing a software problem of sorts. Perhaps something was installed which is hogging resources in the background. Maybe even a factory reset is in order.

I am guessing this. the only lag I ever saw was when first opening an app. such as shown in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV2X51kAVfc
my n6 is very slow compared to my n5. I have animations to 0.5x and encryption off. is a software problem ?? the display resolution ??
changing animations 0.5 does not work....its very frustrating

Must be your phone or cellular service. I had nexus 5 the 6 is MUCH faster no lag at all
My read and write speeds are atrocious!! Makes me want to cry

Rooting your device doesn't change what "ROM" you have, it simply gives you write/edit capabilities to system files.
You can root and boot and you will notice zero changes. And of course your N5 was running ART - that's lollipop's only runtime.
Wait I thought the recent software update improved the speed of the device, or not? Did I mishear something?
Mine is faster than my SD805 G3 that I had. Its also faster in most ways than my Nexus 9 was. It depends on what you are running, even stock it was extremely smooth.
Try a factory reset. It may help.

if this doesn't help, you may have to flash the factory img again.
but in all reality, you shouldn't rely so much on arbitrary benchmark numbers. everyone's is different based on what they have on their phone, just like measuring screen on time as a good mark for battery life.
Didnt help, still the same speeds.......and I dont rely on them, but my phone has been SUPER slow.........UGhhh this sucks. Anyone else on stock? Wanna run Androbench and post your results? Im wondering If I have a bad device and need to get it swapped? I already did that once.....Grrrrrrrr
Mine is about the same as your results but I don't notice any lags

[Q] Does Anyone Know Samsung Galaxy S5 AT&T Variant Lollipop Root ?

I want a perfect rom on my phone a stock lollipop rom and I can't do that without root. I mean have you seen this TouchWiz Oh My Lawd it's horrible, it eats so much ram battery life terrible and sometimes my phone overheats. If anyone could point me to a thread where they found the root or is working on the root and have it. I'll make a donation to the Mastermind who discovered it.

What could possibly be wrong?

Hi guys,
I have a Moto G 2014(xt1068) I've have been using CM 13 for 4 months now but after every two months, my phone's performance slows down. I have to factory reset my phone after every 2-3 months to keep it working smooth and stable. I want to know does this happen with your phone if yes how do you overcome this problem ? I have tried lot's of apps like Greenify and Better Battery Stats but I'm unable to solve this problem. Can anyone guide me what possibly the problem could be and how do I detect what's the root cause of this problem how do I overcome this? Also, I wanna know can an android phone work as smooth as an iPhone?
Waiting for reply..:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Thanks for reading.

Have you tried doing the following? get 1Gb free space at least then run fstrim monthly based (sorry, that's what I did with my old GNEX every time it slowed down or experienced as you did.

[Q] Has the 80% battery if rooted been solved?

Hey all.. been a few months since I was able to track the status of everything. (Have a new baby now! yay!!)
So was wondering, for a long time it was all about the Snapdragon Eng Boot + root, but youd be locked at 80% battery. Has that been fixed or are we still in the same boat? Thanks for the insight on the latest updates.
the bootloader is still locked so no.
Darn. Thanks for the response tho.
Are people still choosing to root with the 80% battery restriction? I know with Oreo out, makes one wonder to use Oreo or just go the other way. I saw TWRP as well for snapdragon?

TWRP on Snap is not for US version. Rooting with 80% battery or staying stock is your choice.
Thanks for the insight. Really seems the Galaxy S8.. would miss out on quite a bit via being rooted... least atm... without a way to flash custom roms on it to make up for it. =/ Guess Ill have to keep a hold on my S6 for now and use my S8 for other things using DIGITS and DeX use.

S4 active failing after nearly 5 years of reliability.

Hi all,
My S4 active recently went on a downward slide, I'm still on 5.0.1 unrooted. I'm having issues with "not registered on network", my battery drains really fast, it's not a very old battery and not a Samsung one either. I'm having problems with it not running modern apps very well. This phone is now my secondary phone but I don't want to let it die.
I'm hoping that I can get a "do this" list from someone to revamp it. I have read that not registered on network can be a battery problem, but then I've also read that there is a bunch of solutions I could need to do.
Anybody know what I need to do?
Cheers.
So...
Downgrade to KitKat, flash with Odin? Re upgrade to Lolipop & install superuser?
& then hopefully bugs will be fixed.
Thanks for the help.
Now as I'm feeling the love here, and I know I'm far above facepalm level, any other corrections, info or tips y'll got for me? (best smile please) :good:
It's a right party here eh?

I'll get my coat then.
These phones are bombers. I'm moving up to the S5 Active which is currently supported by LineageOS. So far I am happy w/it.
