Galaxy S6 Active - disable active key? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

How do you unassign the active key's functions? I want to have it do nothing on short press and launch camera on long press.
Switched from an S6 to an S6 Active, loving it! Battery life is great, I much prefer the grippy casing and having the Active Key is handy.

I don't believe you can.

I am the same exact way - I accidentally press the active key way too much. I set this app as my short press, because it doesn't switch out of the running app and it's basically like the button was never pushed (the active key would always close the game I was playing and piss me off) play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rotroman.activelock

I see that there's a slider to be able to at least "turn off while on lock screen"
I noticed that I only accidentally hit it when moving the phone in/out of my pocket

I disabled it by installing the "Screen off and lock" app from the play store and activating it and assigning it to the active key. I then uninstalled the app. As long as you don't go into the active key settings it will be disabled. I am just using the long press.

Hi, how can I fix the error message, "unfortunately, settings has stopped" whenever I assign the active key on my S6 active to open any application by either long pressing or short pressing it?

Locking the Diamond

I was wondering is there a app that will lock my Diamond by clicking a shortcut?
I don't want S2u2 it's buggy imo. But i would just like to use the std. locking through a shortcut.
Pressing and holding the hang-up button just doesn't work for me.
If pressing and holding a button for 2 seconds is too hard for you then perhaps you should consider buying a slave to do it for you....
It isn't the fact that i don't wanna push it.
But after using it one week i already notice that the pad hangs to the hang-up button a heightdifference of a mm is already present.
I don't like that so i'd rather push a shortcut.
I press the power button briefly, not sure if that's lock, but it works for me.
chech the thread "Lock Screen or put into "standby"? Best set-up?", post 9 & 10.

You could do HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDeviceLock Enable from 0 to 1 and everytime your backlight goes off (which is quite quick with the Diamond) the device will automatically lock
Ensure that Long Press End Key is set to lock your device (Start -> Settings -> System -> Long Press End Key -> Automatically execute the seleted action: Lock device.
Next open a registry editing program and navigate to HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeLSKPath and enter \windows\endkey.exe.
Then navigate to HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeLSKText and enter Lock (or whatever text you want to be displayed on the button).
Save the changes and soft-reset the device (or disable and re-enable HTC Touch Flow 3D) to implement the change.
Personally i've started using Sensor Lock which seems to work really well

Locks and unlocks by rotating the screen. Has lots of nice options and locks the hardware buttons too which is good.
PocketShield looks pretty cool. It's around $11 if you decide to buy it.

Activate camera with physical shutter button

Greetings all,
Per the above; is this possible? Hoping for an outcome whereby pressing the physical shutter button, whilst the phone is turned on, but not in the camera, loads up the camera app.
Thanks in advance
Yep, you just hold the shutter button down and it activates the camera from any screen. Also works when the device is locked and screen is off.
Can you reverse this with settings?
So can you stop the camera loading up by some setting on the phone disabling the physical shutter button?
As it's being accidentally pressed while getting the phone out of my pocket?
Cheers!
Probably not without rooting, but the button requires a fairly long, full press to activate the camera so I can't see it accidentally starting the camera by just getting it out of a pocket (it's certainly never happened to me)

It is possible to disable this feature. I have done this since I kept getting pocket pictures as well. You have to go into the camera app, open the menu and select the third tab (the one with the screwdriver and spanner icon). The first setting on that tab is called "Hurtig start" on my phone which is in danish. I would expect this to be a translation from "Quick start" or something like that. This setting have four options, the last one being "Slukket" which is probably a translation of "Turned off". When selecting this option the physical camera button stops doing anything unless you are already inside the camera app.
Sorry about it being landscape

[Q] how to re-route Recent Apps hardkey to become the 'Search' hardkey

Hey all,
I'm coming from 2 previous Androids that had the 'Search' hardkey on the phone. I really liked it, esp when used in context in certain apps like Spotify (to filter in Spotify, seems like I have to scroll up 700 songs in my Playlist until the Filter area shows up instead of just pressing the Search key like how i did be4).
Is there any way that I can get rid of the 'Recent Apps' hardkey, and reroute it to 'Search'/Filter.
I see Turbo isn't rooted yet, so guessing I'd need a non-root app solution?
I think I tried one app 'All in One Gestures', and tried to re-route single or long tap on the 'Recent Apps' key to instead 'Search', but that didn't work way I expected it to (it only goes to the Google Now Search webpage, and not the context of pressing Search within an app [and not leaving the app]).
Any ideas?,
Arian
Thanks in advance
Almost positive this cant be done without root.
Darn, I'd also settle for an app that does gestures... so a gesture that triggers what the non-existent Search hardkey would have done. Not sure if thats possible without root.
I miss the search button too
I used to have the Evo 4G and loved the search button too. I was disappointed when (I believe) ICS phased it out and switched to the three button approach. While it won't search within apps, you can launch Google Now from anywhere by swiping up from the home button. In my experience, it's pretty finicky with the Turbo's capacitive buttons though.
Swipe Home Button
There's an app Called Swipe Home Button. It lets you do gestures to activate certain features. OP should look into it, it may be what you're looking for.
If you long press the home button, you'll get the Google search swiping up... Or what I use is nova launcher and a double tap gesture to search.
Hope this helps.

BxActions? (Bixby remap)

Can anyone that has the phone already test to see if BxActions still works?
Also are you able to test Control Mode.
Thanks! :highfive:
Doesnt work on my Note 8, button launches Bixby only no matter what I do, what service I choose and what accessibility I turn on.
I did not try control mode, just blocking.
EDIT: I finally got it working, had to clear the cache on the phone and reinstalled. Now working, but its slow to close/switch from bixby.
I just used Bixby Button Remapper by Phascinate and it it works. Also BK Disabler can disable all Bixby services so the button doesn't do anything
I used bxactions and it works perfect. I did the control mode, easy to do and works like a champ. You have to use a disabling package app and PC. You will probably want it anyways. I used BK Disabler and it worked as well. Couldn't get the other apps to work very well, so I recommend those the most. No root needed and no hiccup.
Do not install bixby remap app. It will cause hesitation of scrolling in the gallery and sometimes the settings memo.
I can't get it to work for me in control or blocking mode. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Bixby and Bixby voice are both turned off from the Bixby app itself, but no matter what I set the button to do, it just remains disabled.
Maybe just update the phone to AQI5 and turn it off in the menu?
BixBye has been working brilliantly for me. Worked on my S8 Plus and it works on my Note 8 even after the recent update from T-Mobile.

I have turned it off in Bixby itself, but I wanted to remap the now non-functioning button to something else.
I really wish they would just not have put this stupid button on there to begin with, but now that it's there, I'd like to make it do something. Well I guess I can use it to wake the phone up.
Just tried bixbye. Nope again. I'm on Sprint, so maybe they're just breaking everything that tries to circumvent this stupid "assistant".
You do know there is scrolling issues in gallery when bixby remapper is installed?
Once I turned bixby button off, it's like it was never there, doesn't bother me at all. What bothers me is the fact that my phone is tracking my activities, stores them and probably sends them out somewhere. Got some stupid message last night, telling me what time I usually go to sleep etc
bxActions is working on my Verizon Note 8. I did not do the control part. I only have a single push app assigned, so no lag or other issues.
Works fine on mine as well... 1 press = Google Assistant, 2 press = camera launch, long press = flashlight.
BxActions working fine with Control Mode, no lag or stutter in gallery.
1 click Assistant, 2 clicks toggle auto rotate, long press flashlight.

Your power button is already set to open the camera if you double press it. At least mine was.

Mine too. Now I can do it on both sides!
I have it installed and followed the directions for the control mode but it isnt working for me. In fact, long pressing the button still brings up bixby.
did anyone have windows defender say that the activatecontrolmode.exe is a trojan.

yes, because it auto inputs ABD commands to your terminal to enable permissions.
Just disable defender while doing the process. I'm using bxActions - Control Mode and i'm loving it.
Does anyone know how to remove the activation of bixby when you longpress? I still get it, and don't know what package to disable to get rid of it. I have tried disabling bixby voice, but that just disables the button completely.

Under Android 9 Beta the Bixby Button only can be deactivated. No remapping is possible.

How to lock screen without pressing power button?

Hi!
I'm wondering if I can lock my device without pressing the power button. In my galaxy s9+, I used the "custom navigation bar" app to add an invisible power button to the navigation bar, but this app CRASHED my note9!!!!
I spent 2 hours trying to solve the issue without losing my apps and stuff, successfully. Now I want to use another way to save my power button.
I installed an app called "home launcher" to use the home long press to call another app instead of google search, but every app to lock screen causes the fingerprint sensor to stop working without password.
I miss my old Xiaomi Mi 6
Someone knows how to do this?
you can install an app called "turn off screen (lock screen)" by redmanit from the play store. it gives you the option to put an icon on the homescreen or from your notifications drop down, press it and it'll lock your phone in 5 seconds. this is the only app i know of that works with the note 9's android 8.1
Nova launcher can do it as far as I know.
Installed a 3rd party screen off app. Using the widget Extended Date which then gives you the settings to show time/date/week/day/etc. There's a function to link to any app in this case screen off. Thus touching the date switches off the screen. Been using this setup way back when I still had my Note 2. Still works (both the screen off app and the widget).

Turn on the Assistant Menu. That has a lock button that will turn your screen off. It will not "lock" your phone, just turn off the screen. Screen locks @ whatever you've set as the lock out time (screen locks "x" number of seconds after pressing power button). If you want to "lock" it instantly, requiring password to open, I use Nova Launcher and a screen input gesture. That locks it instantly and requires, I think, your password - not your fingerprint.
See screenies for info.

you can use OHO+ without goodlock though, if you only need the lockscreen gesture.
OHO+ is a "standalone" app, luckily.
Screen lock button in navbar via good lock + navstar ?
