DIY Macro Lense - Off-topic

Hi guys,
Found a cool way to make a little DIY Macro lens.
Simply dismantle an old CD/DVD writer or anything similar and take our the little lens from there, simply tape it to your camera phone and be amazed!
Videos are all over youtube if you need a tutorial

That's a pretty fun idea! I've been doing it with a tiny magnifying glass I nicked from a friend.
Nothing beats a real Macro lens on a DSLR, but it's certainly an entertaining thing to do on a Sunday afternoon.

I took a lense from a dvd burner, and put it in front of my galaxy pocket camera. With that i managed to take pictures of my G3 screen,in which you can see how small are the pixels in a QHD display.
Like these ones

Pretty impressive!

Wanted: Dongle / Bracket to allow front camera to face rear...

I have seen all sorts of goofy iPhone camera attachments...
What I would love to see is a bracket that snaps on the sides of the N7 that has mirrors that allow pictures to be taken add if the camera was actually rear facing...
Sure would make it easier to take pics with the N7...
And yes I do want to use my N7 to take pics for online use even though it is only a low resolution camera. I sell a lot online & the N7 camera is fine... Holding the tablet facing something and trying to line it up is awkward...
I am envisioning a cheap Chinese made single selling for $8.99 shipped from Taiwan...

Same here... I would love that. Also a bit of searching on the this forum and a rooted nexus 7 you can bring the camera to shoot 720p video in quite easy steps. I have also noticed that under the hood of the nexus is a neat place to install a rear camera

Not quite all the war round to the back, but half way there:

I'm sure I have seen a prism lens on a bracket, again on Kickstarter, to do what you suggest.
Interesting but if i understood correctly it goes better with the included app for lens correction.
Honestly it would be better to pledge to a company that would make a product that would be kinda universal instead of apple products.

DIY Cradle

I love my Bodyglove slim case (not the slippery one, the tmobile model), but I wanted a kickstand. I couldn't find one I liked. So while browsing I found a site showing a credit card cradle. I decided to improve on the design. Trace a credit card on an old VHS case, use the pics as a rough template, use black tape to adjoin them. Note: place pieces together, not flat when taping, it help them stay flatter in folded position. I you use a case make the notch the width of your phone with case on. At the angle I used it works in portrait or landscape, very stable! I made 5 in less than 30 minutes, one for work ID case, wallet, home girlfriends house, etc. Sorry cant show with phone in cradle as I dont have access to another camera.

Wow! It held my buddy's 7 inch Toshiba Excite in landscape.

Yeah but made out of VHS case. Harder to get hold of these days than Uranium

Just saying. I bought this phone now im broke. Free is better.
P.s. I love the brothers and sisters that use the donate ware system. Some their efforts really can help you: floss, impress, improve confidence, edge out, mingle, garner, equalize, whatever. But, if someone's app helps you out, and it becomes a tool, help them out and show your appreciation (when you get it). I am not a developer, I am a consumer. This sitr, and my discovery of it, has augmented my progression, and I'll remember you guys and gals for it. Thanks.

Screen protector? Need camera protector.

There has been a lot of talk about protecting the screen which is understandable but my biggest issue is the camera lens. Just noticed that my camera lens is all scratched up. Used camera and seems okay but for how long?
Having the camera on the outside of the wrist subjects it to a lot of abuse. At least it appears that way in my case. For example, having my arms on the desk while using my phone, the lens is rubbing against the desk or pushing the car door open with my forearm, it hits the lens.
Just wondering if anyone else is having issues with this. I don't use the camera on it very much so it isn't a huge deal but I don't see this lens staying intact for the long hull.
Perhaps my biggest issue is that I wear it on my left wrist and left handed. So when I write, which I do a lot for work, it is again in contact with the desk or whatever.

Me too, however I'll probably cut out a screen protector to go over the lens, I would say I will need a wet screen protector (zagg or similar)

I just checked my camera lens and it's fine. I did remove the cover recently though as didn't like the look of it. Never worried about protecting camera lens on phone so never thought of with watch. Would've though phone lens would be more susceptible to scratches, but it looks fine. The watch lens is built a fair way into the strap on mine
Going to try to a single hole puncher with clear packing tape. This should fit pretty close.

Hole puncher was to small. Maybe if there is a bigger option. The one I had was 1/4 inch. I ended up cutting a circle out of an extra screen protector and using it. Pictures are crystal clear.

I think a regular spare should work since it isn't curved

I also added a rubber protector.
This shield also acts as a thermal insulator to guard against condensation, as has been reported elsewhere.

Sorry I don't have any photos worth sharing yet. But the Camera is perfectly fine.
I think the Dual Camera stuff is pure gimmickry. It's cute for about 5 minutes.
It does not focus "out of focus" pictures. Everything has to be in focus like a normal shot and it then it can Defocus what you don't want.
Basically emulated Len Bokeh effect.
I never found the old EVO 3D to be gimmickry. It really worked and I just retired my wife's 3D to give her the old HTC One. She's bummed she is losing the 3D.
Problem with that 3D camera though is it was very slow and very hard to get shots in focus. But if you did or had enough light the 3D effect was pretty impressive.
One thing the second camera might do is help with focusing and focusing quick. That might not be gimmickry and possibly useful.
If HTC Marketed that instead, they might actually make a profit.
Coming from the s3 which has a great camera, I'm curious how the m8 camera's picture quality compares to it (as well as the s4 & s5) when it comes to just regular everyday photos. Even if they are larger "ultra pixels", 4mp seems pretty weak compared to other devices.

My M7 absolutely puts the Note 2's camera to shame.. So. Expect a big jump as compared to the S3. I also wasn't impressed with the S4's camera. My pics always looked better then my friends at the same events.
I don't expect much out of the S5 either.
Literally the only thing with 4mp, is that you cant crop or zoom in on your pictures. Even with that one flaw, its been my favorite camera of anything i've ever used.
I am not a good photographer and don't really mess with the camera settings at all.

I was actually going to make a topic like this, but I guess I was too late
Anyways, here are some that I've taken that I've been pretty impressed with after barely messing with the settings. The first two clearly have filters, but the last one with my son was just a Ufocus edit. Makes me feel like a wannabe photographer

Found a fix if your pictures are getting blurry

Put a drop of water on your lens and scrape with a corner of a credit card

there is a film on the lens that gets scratched, it needs to be removed, I used automotive scratch remover followed by a coating of wax, I'm not sure how water and the corner of a credit card helps..........

My pictures were blurry, I searched Google and that's what I found, I did what it said and it worked.
So....that's how it helped me

I used rubbing alcohol and qtips. Got the same results.
Toothpaste and a qtip here.

I see this starting on my M8. I don't think it's affected the pictures yet, but will be monitoring it. Just picked up the Harmon/Kardon today and really hoping this doesn't happen.
It works!!! I used screen cleaner with a credit card. I was so afraid that I'd scratched my camera that it took a month for me to do this. Kicking myself for not doing this sooner

It's gonna happen for sure! Rubbing alcohol and qtips is what I've used to remedy the problem.
I didn't have much luck with water + credit card, but a little water and toothpaste did the trick. Is this a one-time fix, or are you afflicted people having to do it again after more time passes?

So far, so good!
I was so glad I read about this before my recent vacation, my wife was taking pictures and they were all blurry and my phone was the same. I did the credit card and spit and it fixed the problem.
I started noticing my pictures from my phone were getting quite blurry, so I followed the instructions. The only thing I did not know was the "film" I was taking off was actually black. Once I figured that out....I got everything cleared up.
Thanks for the info!
Noticed it on the front camera today. Broke out the ole toothpaste again...All good now!
