boot the phone in bootloader / fastboot usb mode, open your command window and type "fastboot getvar all" without the quotes, copy/paste the output here excluding the IMEI and Serialno
Your twrp version is to old hence why all roms won't flash, update your recovery
Because your recovery is too old, you might also need to update your firmware (to confirm with your "fastboot getvar all")

Hello everyone,
I'm writing this after researching my problem for a bit.
I come from generally Samsung devices that I modded quite extensively (I'm at my first HTC) and stumbled into a series of problems. I moved from GE to Sense custom ROMs and stuck with ViperOne for some time now. I wanted to change to HTC One Nexus-Edition (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544119).
I did the mistake and tried to flash the .zip while on CWM Recovery 6.0.3.2. The flash failed and I had to restore my backup, but I have lot root in the process somehow (not really sure why or how). Ever since then I've been struggling to get it back to stock so I can flash the new TRWP or CWM (unable to flash those from Fastboot either, no option available).
Whenever I run a RUU.exe, it restarts the phone and it gets stuck with the black background and "HTC" logo and the RUU throws an "connection error" exception.
If anyone has any suggestions how I could get it back to stock (keeping S-OFF) so I can re-flash a recovery and re-root cleanly, the help would be greatly appreciated. My scripting skills are not very advanced, so I've been looking for solutions that don't necessarily involve the ADB command shell.
Hello I have the same problem with htc one... I'm stucking on hello screen htc siply...
Try a another computer/wire/port? Perhaps remove all drivers and reinstall?

Thanks. However it doesn't find the device. Are there any other drivers that I have to install for it to recognise the HTC One in Fastboot?

Solutions for Win 8.1 vary widely, but since you have Ubuntu, use that instead of Win. should work just fine.

Only solution I found for windows 8.1/Fastboot was hboot 1.54.000 from the new 4.4 GPe or hboot 1.55.000 from anything else. After your up to one of those fastboot works as normal.

Try this one

Before i relock i can load a cwm recovery.
In the recovery i try everything: cache, data, system wipe - factory reset (failed and reload everytime) - try via sideload to install a custom rom (loading the file to device but cannot install...)
After that i read more about the device and i want back to clean stock......but now the only working is fastboot mode to managed the device via PC.
One thing i wont to try was the install a nandroid backup via OTG cable....but this works only in a recovery - right?
It would be nice to unlock the bootloader again so that i came back to recovery...but how?
The fastboot command " fastboot oem unlock" wont work...command error???!!!!!

Better to use TWRP 2.6.3.3 not CWM, some roms can't be flashed correctly with CWM.

right, if you use a twrp nandroid, restore it using twrp. If you use a CWM nandroid, restore using CWM.

fastboot oem unlock can't be used on your phone version, you must use HTCdev.com if you want to unlock the bootloader.
Have you finally checked MD5 value of your ruu?
Many many thanks for your detailed reply!!!!
The MD5 of the first RUU was okay.
It still does not work. Wrong imaging ....
Meanwhile, I have downloaded another: "RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13.3231.27_10.31.11.31.05_release_310878_signed".
I try to install but during the prozess comes a message: wrong bootloader........ grrrrrr
Now i will dowload your recommendation on post two today or tomorrow and give that a try....i hope this RUU work...

1.28.401.7 is a downgrade and you can't downgrade with S-ON, you must use a ruu same or higher version installed on your phone (1.29.401.10 +)
So,
i downloaded your recommendation:
"RUU M7 UL K44 SENSE55 MR HTC Europe 4.19.401.9 R Radio 4A.23.3263.28 10.38r.1157.04L Release 353069 Signed 2-1"
and try to install but i get imaging error.
The phone shows the silver htc logo and aborted during pushing the files to the device with this imaging error message.....
MD5 matched!
Is this also the wrong RUU??
Somehow I can not get to the target Very disappointing ...
Any ideas?
I get the unlock code from htcdev.com.
Better work with unlocked device (recovery, sideload, nandroid backup option via OTG cable)???
I have solved the problem:
That's what I did:
Unlock the bootloader via htcdev.com.
Get the cwm recovery back .
Flash the current cwm recovery via fastboot (my recovery was a little bit outdated).
Flash via sideload cm11 Rom.
Device booting until the bootanimation :victory:
Back to recovery do all the wipe stuff.
And yes i have fully working device now
Great!
But unfortunately I have not a RUU to get back to the factory defaults ....
But there are still a few RUU or nandroid backups that I can try ...

Hi Cls,,,,i did reset factory default many times, but its still restarting automatically, and the software still that newest one (reset factory doesnt work),
so i just want the original stock RUU for HTC one, cuz i tried many RUUs and faced Error:155
desciprtion:
ERROR [155~159]: IMAGE ERROR
One of these error messages will appear when you use the incorrect RUU to update and the image file size is larger than the Flash ROM size. In this case, download the correct RUU version and try again

Their is no 6.xx.401.x RUU
You need to unlock the bootloader / Flash custom Recovery / and Flash a Stock Rom.
Unlock the bootloader at HTCDEV
then from fastboot USB
Flash recovery TWRP 2.6.3.3
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
then sideload this Rom to your phone
http://www.androidrevolution.org/downloader/download.php?file=One_5.11.401.10_odexed.zip
TWRP / Advanced / ADB Sideload - swipe to sideload
From PC adb / fastboot folder
you use
adb sideload name-of-rom.zip
make sure the rom is in the same folder as adb / fastboot

First you need to post your "fastboot getvar all" output. Then, you need to change your recovery to TWRP because it's recomended for our phone. Most likely you flashed outdated SU, and that caused bootloop. But, as I said, post your "fastboot getvar all" output, but delete your IMEI and serial no. That way we will be able to help you
^^Definitely caused by an outdated SU bin if your phone is running a lollipop rom. You need at least 2.46 on Lollipop. Reflashing the correct versio might fix your problem, otherwise you'll need to reflash your rom.

There isn't much more to say about the install process than what's already said in ElementalX thread:
INSTALLATION
1. Install zip from recovery
2. Follow the instructions, if you don't know what to do, use the preselected options
3. Reboot
Click to collapse
Your bootloader can be unlocked using instructions at www.htcdev.com/bootloader
Twrp recovery is flashed using fastboot in bootloader mode:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-0-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
and finally save the correct elementalX version on your phone storage and install with twrp.
ok but in future how i recover stock recovery and kernel ?

It's very easy. Just go into fastboot mode, switch into RUU mode via "htc_fastboot.exe", install the stock RUU zipfile even via "htc_fastboot.exe" and that's it. In the HTC stock RUU-zips everything is included, even stock recovery, kernel, and so on...
I recommend for ALL fastboot-operations with HTC devices to use the special "htc_fastboot.exe", it works smooth for me.
Code:
htc_fastboot.exe oem rebootRUU
Wait for the silver HTC progress bar, then:
Code:
htc_fastboot.exe flash zip PN07IMG_M7_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_7.19.401.2_Radio_4T.35.3218.16_10.33Q.1718.01L_release_421790_signed.zip
If this step failed after installing "pre-update" hboot, that's normal. Start the flash procedure IMMEDIATELY a second time (or -- as in my case -- it is automagically done by the flash proceeding).
This flash tooks approx. 10 minutes. If you got your windows command prompt back, the final step is (even if the silver progress bar is NOT at the end, that's normal too):
Code:
htc_fastboot.exe reboot
and the system will start like a brand new original M7.
I did this many times with one of my different M7's (one for daily use, several others for testing and experiments), and all the time it worked without any trouble.
(Yet I'm using Slim7-1.17 7.1.2 Nougat with GPE-firmware on all devices, it runs much much better as any stock rom from european HTC Sense).
Happy flashing,
samhhmobil

If your phone is running the latest version, you won't need the stock recovery anymore so there is no need to backup the stock recovery.
You can backup your stock kernel using twrp "backup" menu. Make a backup of the "boot" partition, this is the kernel. If you need to restore your stock kernel, just restore that backup using twrp "restore" menu. Also, stock recovery and kernel can be extracted from a firmware.zip or ruu.zip matching your phone version if you really need them (someone probably already extracted them and uploaded somewhere, if you can give me the output of "fastboot getvar version-main" I can tell you if your stock recovery and kernel are already uploaded).
You can still flash a ruu to restore your phone back to stock like described above, but flashing a ruu only to restore the stock kernel is a really drastic solution (will reset the whole phone back to stock, rom/recovery/kernel/everything and you'll loose your data).

If using htc_fastboot.exe you must NOT do the flash command a second time. htc_fastboot.exe will take care of the hboot pre-update itself: will flash the hboot, output the "90 pre-update error", make the phone reboot itself back to ruu mode and flash the remaining partitions without any action from the user. Just so you know it's not magic but how it's intended to work when using htc_fastboot
The second flash was only needed if using the regular fastboot.exe from the sdk-tools for 6.xx.xxx.x RUU and older (7.xx.xxx.x ruu must be flashed with htc_fastboot.exe because of the ruu file size)
thanks all, it working
Well until i tried magisk, can't get safety check pass
