Hey everyone,
Just wondering if there any big difference between between the Tmobile and AT&T samsung tab?
Does one have better features or better pre-loaded apps? Are both easily rootable? If so, which is better?
The only internal hardware difference is that the T-Mobile tab supports the T-Mobile 3G bands whereas the ATT tab supports ATT bands. Also, the ATT tab will be better if you were to travel a lot in Europe as it can support European 3G frequencies.
There are also some changes in design on the back of the tab (mostly in regards to color). As for preinstalled apps, I an unsure as I do not own a T-Mobile tab.

The T-Mobile one will work with T-Mobiles faster 3G HSPA+ network. Not at 4G though, just faster than 3G. However, this it not available everywhere.
In the EU, the T-Mobile version will only support Edge, whereas the AT&T version will support 3G.
The most important piece is AT&T version could be used as a phone w Euro firmware and an existing AT&T SIM card. Sounded like you're not an AT&T user but it's doable.
For Tmob tab, you could also set it up as a phone but you will need a data plan then setup GV+IPKall+SIPDroid if you don't want to pay for Skype.

I know it wont wont in the UK, as their 3G frequency is 2100 and i believe the T-Mobile tab uses a different frequency for uploads vs downloads (1700 and 2100).

The UK, and the pretty much the world outside of North America, uses UMTS Band I.

I got the specs from Samsung's website, they are posted as:
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900; UMTS : Band IV(1700), I(2100) & Wi-Fi
I read the UMTS bands as the AWS 1700/2100, (1700Mhz u/l; 2100Mhz d/l) not AWS(1700/2100) and UMTS 2100 (so only able to download on the 2100, not upload on this frequency).
It does seem a little unclear, but if it really does support 2100Mhz upload and download, that would be awesome!! Would also mean you could unlock it and put a 3G AT&T Sim in it...
Anyone know this for sure?

Trust me, it's fine.
Band IV is AWS and completely separate from Band I. Even the Samsung website explicitly mentions the bands it supports. European 3G uses Band I so it will work.

That is awesome.. The only thing, other than cost, holding me back was that it might not work in the UK.
Now I just have to convince myself that i will get $350 + monthly data use out of it. Price, though expensive, is not really an issue but if I bought it and didn't use it, i would get into trouble from the missus.... :s

FYI - I followed Rotohammer's directions and i flashed a T-Mobile Tab, then unlocked it, and after I inserted my AT&T sim, I had phone and Edge:

Don't waste your time and or brick your Tab. Tmo Tab will never get 3G on an ATT sim card because it doesn't do 3G on 850/1900mhz band. Hardware doesn't support ATT's 3G bands.

I understand the feeling. I initially went with the Tmobile version but at a data rate coming up to almost $70 after taxes ($59.99 unlimited data for not having my phone with Tmobile), I took it back, paid the $10 restocking fee and went with the at&t version. After roto's rom to enable phone i just plop in my existing unlimited (grandfathered) at&t sim and i'm golden.
Either way I did the analysis....and i believe it was after like 8 months the AT&T version comes out cheaper and if i recall that was WITH the 2GB data plan included.

I thought it was just $39.99/mo for 5GB of data on T-mo even if the tablet was your only device...

Tmo does not have a $59.99 data-only plan. It's $39.99 for 5GB, after which you're throttled past the 5GB allotment. No overages.
But i prefer AT&T's $24.99 2GB plan (don't need calling, already have a phone). The price is just right. Still looking to trade my Tmo Tab for an ATT one...
Yup caught me off guard. The the tmo salesman explained it to me instore. If or when I take my phone with tmo I will get a $10 discount on the data plan. Fishy but whatever, I was never a t-mobile customer so I just went along with it but yes normally its 39.99
Bumping this as I was going to get a WiFi only TAB but with its inferior hardware I'm looking at a 3G TAB.
On Amazon the Tmobile version is a lot cheaper at $475 than the AT&T version at $550, not sure why?
Anyway I'll be using it in Europe so it seems the Tmobile version would do the trick with its 2100Mhz frequency?

The AT&T version has always been more expensive...just the way it's been priced I guess. If your only or mainly going to be using it in Europe you will be fine with the T-Mobile version as it will run 3G on 900/2100 over there
If you're keen on digging around with different roms and are comfortable flashing around then go for it. But if you're looking for a smooth out of the box experience off the bat (with calling etc enable) I'd wait and pick up one over there....just my 2 cents
Hi, if I were to get an unlocked Galaxy Note GSM, would I have to do anything fancy to get HSPA+ (4G) to work on it?
Would it be as easy as to pop in my SIM card and go to work like on any T-Mobile device?
Please respond back soon because I am trying to buy one tonight off a guy on craigslist, I don't want to get ripped off!

I don't want LTE. I want T-Mobile HSPA+. Will it work by putting a sim card in it?
then you'll need to wait until T-Mobile repurposes their 1900MHz band for HSPA+. I don't know if they're doing it for the whole country, but it has started to happen in some areas already

Well it's just to make phone calls. It's okay if I don't have internet connectivity everywhere. I am going to be buying it off a guy on craigslist in a place where I normally get service... he's selling it to me for only $450. Kind of nervous that it's a fake/scam.

Sorry but don't count on anything more the edge on TMobile, unless you are really lucky and you are in a 1900 Mhz area. If you want TMobile buy an AT&T Note and you will have to do some hacking to get the radio working on TMobile.

Don't expect the entire US to get 1900Mhz 3G on tmobile, since the radio spectrum is subdivided differently depending on the cities.
Mostly the west coast and pennsylvania so far

So there's no such hack for the international note? I don't understand how an internationally unlocked phone doesn't support USA GSM highspeed. My T-Mobile G1 supports HSPA+.
Does AT&T 4G work with the international Note? I have it now and I'm only getting 2G. It's god awfully slow.
If you want to buy Note N7000 you will get EDGE on Tmobile.

I'm on the Left Coast, maybe should l see if 1900Mhz is in my area.
To be honest, I'm actually happy with me my broadband sim on AT&T. I just had the LTE code added to my account and I got a little boost in speed on HSPA+. I'm seeing 8Mbps down and the speed seems more stable then before. It does seem to be ramping up to max speed a little slower and I have a firm upload cap at about 1Mbps, before I occasionally would hit 1.5 Mbps. HSPA+ does seem to do Skype and Google Voice pretty well, I've been managing to use a a data sim as a phone quite successfully.

The international Note gets HSPA+ on the AT&T no problem. I'm currently enjoying my H+ icon with my Red Pocket sim card.
The International and American Notes have entirely different hardware inside. The American Note has a pentaband radio that can be reflashed for either AT&T or T-Mobile frequencies. The International note does not.

Wrong. The International Note has a pentaband radio. It's the same modem as the Galaxy Nexus GSM.
It just so happens that the AT&T Note shares the almost the same hardware with the T-Mobile S2 which makes it easier in terms of getting the modem from the T-Mobile S2 to work on the AT&T Note. This is why how they got the hack working on the AT&T Note.
This DOES NOT WORK on the Int Galaxy Note as we are running an Exynos/Infineon chip/baseband.
Okay. Instead of arguing with each other about who can spout-off the N7000's and i717's specs most accurately, why don't we just give the OP a simple, comprehensive answer?
Okay. To answer your question, the N7000 (International Note) will work perfectly fine on T-Mobile US. Phone calls, SMS messages, and data will all work perfectly. The issue, however, is not with the services you can get, but the quality of the services you can get. Even though the N7000 is an "international" GSM device, T-Mobile uses irregular frequencies for it's HSPA+ network. Specifically, instead of supporting HSPA+ on a single frequency, T-Mobile's HSPA+ service is divided between 1700MHz and 2100MHz in what is referred to as 1700/2100 AWS (Advanced Wireless Spectrum). Because AWS is a rare and unusual implementation of HSPA+, almost no "international" phone models support it. In most cases, only phones meant specifically for North America support it. What this means, simply, is that the N7000 will never be capable of using T-Mobile's HSPA+ network (unless you have the rare privelege of being in a 1900MHz HSPA+ area).
Now, just because the N7000 won't let you use T-Mobile's AWS HSPA+, it doesn't mean you can't have your cake and eat it too. Granted, it is a small concession, but the i717 is a "more than adequate" smartphone and will (with some minor modification) make neat work of connecting to T-Mobile's AWS HSPA+ network. Preliminary speed tests even suggest that the i717 is faster on T-Mobile's HSPA+ network than the N7000 is on AT&T's HSPA+ network. So, if you're willing to sacrifice the added speed and power the Exynos SoC offers, you could gain T-Mobile 3G compatibility and NFC to boot just by opting for the i717; which, I might add, is only $649.99 off-contract at AT&T.
If I can help clarify any confusion or answer any questions, please feel free to ask. I know there are a lot of people out there who feel very strongly about which version of the Note is superior. However, it's my opinion that when you come across someone who's undecided, you should simply give them the facts and allow them to make their own decision. Passionately mixing facts with opinion only serves to further confuse things.

i live in boston and decided to call tmobile about the 3/4g coverage. supposedly the 1900 band is now in use for tmobile 3g. so i cant get 4g but i could get 3g...now i have to hunt down a non att branded note. the map the lady referred to was dated june 6th 2012 so im hoping her stuff is right.
hate to buy a not and still be stuck on edge.

Don't care for text messaging (GVoice) but everyone's including unlimited these days.

Yes it'll work with both AT&T or T-Mobile or any of their MVNOS but when you're outside of a refarmed area, you're more than likely only going to have Edge speeds. I'm on the $30 T-Mobile 100min unlimited text, and 5gb data but I'm actually thinking of switching to something like net10 (AT&T) or something of the sort.
net10 is good but after 1.5 gigs of data they shut it off and that's the only reason why I went to att

So without thinking I bought a Nokia Lumia 920 for AT&T off of Ebay.
Now after doing some research I see I may not be able to get 3G/4G.
So I have two things to ask, would flashing another rom on my device help? (I really don't think it will but i'm going to ask to be safe)
Or is there anyway to get 3G/4G working without having to buy a new phone -_-
T-Mobile obtained a bunch of bandwidth that AT&T was going to use, after the failed acquisition attempt. They've used that to roll out network coverage for AT&T's phones, as part of their plan to encourage people to switch. It's not as *extensive* of coverage as T-Mobile's native bands, but it's not terrible. You probably can't get LTE, but you can get 3G and HSPA+ (what TMoUS often calls 4G, especially before they had their own LTE).

I can deal with that, I know back in the day when i unlocked my wife's Iphone 4 it could only get edge. but I was not sure if that problem was just because well it was an Iphone.

Yeah, old iPhones used AT&T's frequencies for 3G and T-Mobile uses different frequencies, so you couldn't use 3G. That's not much of a problem anymore, though; even phones that don't support T-Mobile's main bands can use their re-farmed AT&T bandwidth.

T-Mobile refers to it as refarming; that is assuming you have coverage and that's a big if for many of us who are rural and you live in a town big enough to have it then if you're using an AT&T device subsidy unlocked or locked then you will be able to access HSPA+ and I'm not kidding when I say it's fast, faster than both AT&T and Verizon Wireless in Auburn-Opelika, AL and Columbus, GA where I hail from. HSPA+ is not a LTE or 4G technology so it will run on both AT&T and T-Mobile's 1900 band...if AT&T it's HSPA+ everywhere and where T-Mobile has refarmed 1900; it's 3G or 3.5G there too. Otherwise, it's 2G and I can safely tell you it sucks once you've enjoyed HSPA+ and worse T-Mobile has next to no coverage in many places outside most big cities and that's the wrap with T-Mobile.

There are two Droid Turbo listings that have gone through the FCC.
FCC ID: IHDT56PK1 is the Verizon Droid Turbo. It has support for:
GSM 850 / 900
WCDMA Band II / V
CDMA2000 BC0 / BC1
LTE Bands 2/4/7/13
This is pretty much a typical "global" Verizon phone. It does not support AT&T LTE bands but should work on their 3G network. Cricket uses the AT&T network. However there is that second Droid Turbo listing.
FCC ID: IHDT56PK2 is the other listing, it is stated as electrically identical to the Verizon Droid Turbo. It has support for:
GSM 850 / 1900
WCDMA Band II / IV / V
LTE Bands 2/4/5/7/17
This is more or less an AT&T version of the Droid Turbo. So this would be the phone you should be looking for when it eventually comes out.

Probably not.
I put my ATT SIM card in, clicked on the "not a verizon sim card" pop up to make it go away.
Had a 3G icon but speeds are not bad, getting 6-7 Mbps / 2 Mbps (down/up) on ATT. Configured proper APN and it still did not matter.
Put the Verizon sim back and had LTE and noticed the APN I saved for ATT was gone and the Verizon one was back.
In any case, I don't plan to use this device on ATT but was curious if that (ATT) sim would work. Why? If it works (which it did, placed calls, and sent SMS), this means I should be able to travel overseas and use another SIM card. It was a question I could not get answered in the corporate VZW store. Now I know.
I'd suspect TMO LTE would not work. If you plan on using the device full time you probably won't have LTE speeds.

In any case, I don't plan to use this device on ATT but was curious if that (ATT) sim would work. Why? If it works (which it did, placed calls, and sent SMS), this means I should be able to travel overseas and use another SIM card. It was a question I could not get answered in the corporate VZW store. Now I know.
I'd suspect TMO LTE would not work. If you plan on using the device full time you probably won't have LTE speeds.

AFAIK, Turbo support band 2, 4 which is compatible with T-Mobile. (1700, 2100).
I don't see the supported band in 3G and GSM but 4G
Also, Motorola planned to launch an international version of Turbo so if you don't want to get from verizon, you can get this version.
Yeah I'd suspect it was using HSPA+ because I've never gotten speeds much above 1 or 2mbps down with 3G.
Either way, definitely not a deal breaker, anything is better than dreaded EDGE/1X LOL.

I bought this phone on a lark to see if it would work on T-Mo, and I CAN receive LTE. I validated download speeds above 12 MBPS. The coverage seems to be a bit spotty and I am not sure what band is being picked up. I am in Minneapolis.

I can confirm LTE does work for T-mobile. I popped my sim in and set up the APN and I can get LTE with download speeds in the 20M range now.

Yes, just tried it and was able to surf while on a call.
Speed tests show about the same speeds as well, approx 6 down, 2 up.
However when on Verizon there is no data when on a call. They need to enable LTE for voice and data. I believe it's Advanced calling 1.0.
Interestingly enough I got a text yesterday afternoon on my other number that's on an iphone 6 that is now active.
Hopefully it won't be long.
EDIT: Even though the signal icon shows 3G when the ATT sim is there it may be getting LTE. My area doesn't get good signal, typ. -115dBM on LTE and -90 dBM for HSPA, etc. I'll have to try it in an area where LTE is stronger. In any case HSPA+ is pretty good, it surfs pretty fast.

Hey guys,
Picked up the Turbo at a Buffalo best Buy and set it up today on Rogers/Fido. Couldn't seem to get an LTE signal even though the phone and network seem to be compatible on LTE band 4.
Anyways, for any of those wondering about this or considering doing the same thing and bringing a Turbo up north, after about an hour 4G LTE switched on by itself and I must say these speeds are incredible. 76MB Down and 17MB Up. My home cable speeds aren't that fast.
So basically, anyone reading this thread in Canada. Fear not and buy this beast of a phone.
P.S. (I used the "LTEMOBILE.APN" APN)

Just over $700 USD. Not bad at all if you ask me. As soon as I sell my LG G3 it'll be a $200 upgrade.

You guys are actively using the Verizon droid turbo on other Sim cards and networks? Isn't the Sim card a micro Sim card? I can use this device with T-Mobile out of the box without unlocking or needing to anything special?
