[Q] Nexus6 Wallet - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
When I buy a Wallet Case for my Nexus6, do I have to consider buying a wallet with an opening on the Wireless Charging point (The M Symbol) ? Like this one.
Will the Wireless Charging work if there is no opening ?
This one doesn't have that opening.
Please suggest.
Thanks.

The center of the coil is about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom, so in a way it is exactly opposite the dimple.
I use a Ringke SLIM which is solid on the back and have no issues with Qi charging, other than the need to skew the phone bit high on the charger to center up the coils.

If it'll charge through a Ballistic Tough Jacket Maxx (and it does...), then you have nothing to worry about.
Hurry up and HIDE the ugly M logo.

Hello,
I need a Nexus6 Wallet with cut-offs for camera, power & volume buttons, 2 speakers, charger & audio ports, Moto Logo (not necessary). Do you know any Wallets that meets these requirements ? For most wallets, the cut-off for power & volume buttons won't be there. There will be buttons instead.
What about the Magnet Flap like this ?
Will it be dangerous for the data ?
Thanks.

It shouldn't be able to harm your data in any way. The storage isn't magnetic these days. It might harm any credit cards you put in it though if you put them in the wrong way. Spigen even includes a note about that telling you which way the magnetic strip should go.
Looks like a good wallet case to be honest. The first one I've seen with a magnetic closure as well as cutouts for both speakers. Kind of want one myself now.

Good to hear that it helped you. I'm also looking for a similar one, but with cutout for the Power and Volume buttons in additional. I'm not going to store my cards in the phone wallet anyway.

Hello,
I have a question regarding this kind of Wallet. I am very doubtful, whether the Power & Volume Buttons on the case will damage the actual Power & Volume Buttons on the phone. I feel that it would be safer if I could press those buttons on the phone with my finger, as the buttons on the Wallet Case may be in a wrong position. What is your opinion about this ? Anyone having such problems ?
Thanks.

I've been using this case for 2 months now, and I'm not entirely happy with it.
The protection is excellent, also the buttons are perfectly aligned so no risk there. It's just easy to press the wrong one.
The main problem is that this case is really, REALLY bulky and heavy (keep in mind that I'm not new to phablets, I've been using them exclusively for 3 years now), because of the flat back. Also, the leather is wearing out quite a lot at the corners.

I'm not sure, actually, haven't searched yet for a replacement. I'd suggest to look for a wallet case that follows the curved back of the phone.

You are right. But I think that can be only found in a Back Cover Protector (Bumper). I think all the wallets that I have seen are flat at the back side.

That stilgut book case you posted looks fine and follows the shape of the phone. Sure, it's quite expensive.

Yes , I remember it is curvy at the back side. But too much expensive in my place (India). It is around 3 times the price of that Spigen Wallet S. It might be good quality, but I can buy a phone for that price Also another disadvantage with Stilgut is that it doesn't cover (protection) the top and bottom at all. No magnetic closure etc.

No, there's no such thing as a perfect case
I wouldn't mind if the top and bottom of the phone are less protected. Most important thing is the screen, and I don't want to use a screen protector.

Ask me about my DODOcase

Well, got my DODOcase in the mail today. It won't shield your Nexus 7 from large amounts of physical abuse, but I got it so I can put my tablet down without having to worry about scratching it up. There is indeed a magnet embedded in it to turn the tablet on when you open it, off when you close it.
I would post a picture, but I am not allowed by the forum software.
Maybe an attachment will work?

That seemed like it devolved into a patent argument. I will answer questions there too though.
Question: if you flip the cover all the way back, does the magnet turn off the screen? Thanks.
How does it fell when holding it? As in, with the cover folded back does the thick side feel strange? Do you trust the adhesive? How thin is it when closed? How well does the stand work on a normal desk surface?
Thanks!

Without question. There is no way the tablet will come out without some serious force (not so much it does damage if you do want to remove it fthough).

I am assuming you mean setting it on its side in land-scape mode? That is the one thing that is a little weird. From what I see on the site, you basically but the elastic band underneath the opposite end. It keeps it up-right, but there is not much room for adjustment. I don't use tablets in that way very often though.

I should clarify that that actually works well for me.
I just got one of these DODOcases and I'm really impressed with it. The adhesive is surprisingly strong, once you have the Nexus 7 in place it does not budge a millimeter. I'm very partial to the low profile that this case offers. The 'smart cover' functionality works just as expected. It's not going to give you an Otterbox level of protection, but it should be enough do the job in preventing damage if you were to accidentially drop it in a normal day-to-day situation.
It's not quite as comfortable to hold with the case as it is without, particularly in landscape mode. That's to be expected since I feel that one of the real strengths of the Nexus 7 was how comfortable it is to hold, and with any case you're likely to give up a little bit of that. It feels like you're holding a small hardback book, and that's not an unpleasant feeling. The adhesive is so strong that I might be more hesitant to remove the Nexus from the case as often as I might with a different case, but that might be a good thing. The only other drawback to the case is that the stand functionality that the case offers is pretty limited, and as a result it doesn't support very good viewing angles for landscape mode viewing on a desk or table top. If they marketed a stand to go along with the case they could probably do some business.
The aesthetic touches do have a nice emotional resonance for me, it really does add a classic 'reading a book" feeling to using the Nexus.
All in all I'd give it a 9/10

I don't use facebook lol oh well. going with treegloo
I picked up a Dodo hardcase for my N7 yesterday straight at the HQ. It's pretty awesome all around.
Adhesive is strong and as was said previously, the device doesn't move a mm. That said, the power and volume buttons are awkwardly positioned because they are slightly set back from the edge of the tablet so you need to sort of wedge your finger under (not far) to push them. The landscape stand works pretty well using the elastic band and clips but the angle is not adjustable. Folded back the device feels good in the hand and the magnet doesn't affect the device improperly when in the fully open position behind the tablet.
The look and feel of the case are very high quality and I love that it's made start to finish here in SF. I got a little tour of the factory, which is probably smaller than you imagine given the brand presence and there were some cases being assembled while I was in there. Everyone that I spoke with was super nice and you know this is a company that believes in their product and would stand behind it. It seems that they've come up with a great, innovative repurposing of bookbinding machinery.

You prompted me to attempt to remove it for the first time. The answer is no residue whatsoever. However, that adhesive is really really strong. I unclipped the back panel from the screen on accident while pulling it up. No harm done it just pressed back together.

Poetic Slimline for Nook HD

Just purchased and received the Poetic Slimline case for the Nook HD. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-SLIMLI...804667&sr=8-2&keywords=nook+hd+7"+poetic+case
Currently the case is just $6.95 with free shipping. Current as of 2/13/2013
The case has has a plastic base that clips on over the body of the Nook HD. This helps to make the fit very snug while adding very little to the depth of the device. There are cut outs for the volume rocker, headphone jack and for the power button. The bottom of the case is left mostly open for access to the micro sdcard, proprietary port and the LED light hole. There are also two holes for the speakers on the back.
The plastic case is covered with a faux leather type material. This allows for a relatively tacky area so the device will not slip out of your hand. This material also covers the front of the device protecting the screen of the Nook HD. On the inside of the front cover is a soft velvet like material that is nice and soft preventing scratches on the screen. The front cover can also be tri-folded behind the device to act as a stand for the tablet. This occurs in landscape mode allowing for a decent angle to watch movies or other videos. It does not provide any support in the portrait mode though so it will not help with reading books.
The front cover clicks in to place with the back plastic via magnets. This helps to secure the cover so that it does not flop open. It also provides for a way to turn your Nook HD on and off when opening or closing the case. This is a great feature that will actually bypass the normal lock screen so that when you finish opening the case your device is on and ready to go. However, if you enable the password lock screen then you will still need to unlock and then type in your code.
This case comes with a 3 year warranty from Poetic which is very unusual for cases but is a great feature to have.
One con I found in this device after its arrival was that there were some threads coming out from between the two material types on the front cover of the case. This were easily clipped to make things look better but it does take away from the idea of the case being of top quality. My only other concern is how well the materials will hold up while using the front cover as a stand. If used very frequently it could lead to cracking of the front cover. However, I will only be able to tell that over time and not for the day that I have had the case so far.
So far I am very impressed with the Poetic Slimline case for the Nook HD. I recommend anyone looking for a nice slim case to pick one up.
4.5 out of 5 stars.
Some more pictures in post # 4.

This looks great. Exactly what i have been looking for on HD+. this is avilable also for HD+ at $8.95.
Poetic likes to throw out introductory prices and then increase it once it gets popular, so i would order now it you want one, even if it is not available for another 1-2 weeks, for the prices may increase by then.

There is nothing on the back. So no worries there.
This case is not designed for portrait use. It might stand straight up in portrait but it won't be very stable and there is no way to change the angle.

Far and away the best commercial case I've had for a tablet flavored device. And half the cost of the nearest competitor in the
'decent case' catetory, and that one was for a 5" Samsung media player.
I get the impression that these are from a maker who also makes iPad cases and uses many of the same materials. The front has three
longitudinal strips of material - but the third is narrower than the first two. I'll compare it to a smart cover tomorrow - my memory is
that that cover has three bands of equal-breadth material on the front
The fit in the rear is good as delivered, but may start to loosen up over time, and doesn't have a cutout to match the grommet
in the corner. I may add a cutout (I have a grommet setter for fabric) and then use a shoelace or similar to fasten down the back
on that side. That could also get me a loop for a stylus, which would be useful to me. The fit across the front is a little too
long and a little too wide, which will annoy me over time or I may get used to it.
The cover activates the wake from sleep in CM10. The device sleeps itself after a minute by default, which is fine with me.
All in all, 8 out of 10.

i think i got the last 8.95 one as after i ordered, the price jumped to 12.95. maybe it's back down now, haven't checked.
anyway after about a week of use, i like the case for the price but have some minor quibbles. the case is a bit creased/folded on the edges when it shipped, so it doesn't perfectly conform to the shape of the HD+. maybe over time it will smooth out.
the stand notch is not very solid and i've had it slip when i'm moving around, not sure if that's standard for case stands. also the "hand strap" is kind of hard to pull out, but i mostly use it in landscape mode so not a big deal.
like i said not a big deal especially for the price, but not a perfect case.

Your thoughts on magnetic holsters

Im looking for a holster, i found some but most have a magnetic closure. Im not sure if its ok for our phones so i just wantes your thoughts or experience with it. I use samsung pay every day and i dont want any sensor to be off because of the magnets.
Maybe im a little paranoid over it because it probably takes an extremely powerful magnet to cause any harm but im not willing to test it out lol
None of the magnetic items for the phones will cause any harm to your phone.
You may notice that the stylus doesn't work where the magnet is, but it will work just fine when you move the magnet.
As a Samsung Experience Consultant, I do not recommend anything magnetic, I think they mess with the device internals.

You do know many manufacturers use magnets in their devices and accessories, including Samsung and Apple, right? Every Apple smart case / cover utilizes magnets and (as much as I love Android) I can honestly think of no more reliable tablet than the iPad.

You think or you know?
You should only be putting out info if you know. If you don't know, and it is clear you don't, then you should not speak on a subject.
Magnets will in no way harm the phone unless you are using super powerful magnets, what you use to hold the phone to a dock and things like that won't bother it in the least bit.
I do not recommend any of the Samsung Flip Cases to customers because I have seen them cause problems with devices before. I do not recommend magnetic closures because I have seen them cause problems with devices.

What sort of issues have you seen?
It seems strange that Samsung would release a product that would interfere with one of its flagship products and sell it as an accessory.

I'm not sure if this is specifically what you're asking about, but I've been using a Scosche MagicMount (http://amzn.com/B00I608BJ8) for my car dash and love it! I lay the larger metal plate (it comes with two sizes) at the bottom of my case, oriented where the longer sides are parallel to the bottom of the phone (let me know if you need a picture). I don't stick the plate to my phone, but rather set it inside my case. It turns out to be the perfect length and height for the Note 5. Wireless charging and Samsung Pay still work great. I used that picture of the Note 5 where someone made the back of transparent to make sure the wireless charging coil inside the phone does not over lap with the metal plate that comes with the mount.
I bought a nice leatherette case for my Note 5 only to find that the S-Pen does not work on the right hand side where the magnet is. I took it off immediately and went back to my Body Glove case.

I purchased a wallet case on eBay. I noticed there were areas on the screen that wouldn't work. When I flipped the removable phone case there were 6 magnets...three on each side to hold the phone in the wallet. These magnets are small, but the impact was terrible! I I'm attaching pictures of me using the s pen to find the areas on the screen and the back of the phone case.

Like I said. "Magnets will in no way harm the phone"
This isn't harming your phone, it does do as you have seen which is a TEMPORARY issue and has already been discussed, it will cause no permanent harm to the phone.
I don't know about magnetic holsters but magnetic car mounts most definitely YES. I've used many holsters over the years, for all kinds of types of phones. I haven't really thought about it till I saw this post. My buddy has a good magnetic car mount for his s7 edge, but I don't really know anyone at the moment that's using a magnetic holster. Just my opinion though, the last time I used a holster was way back in January and it was actually pretty good. It was a best buy branded platinum, with kickstand holdster and case like a 3 in kind of deal but not magnetic. It fit could on my belt clips for my jeans and suit pants. Good luck
bought the Bracketron brand at best buy, the magnetic part is on the mount, it is a metal plate stick to your phone so no interference from the magnet, not owning a note 5 tho.
I put in some small tin paper cutouts INSIDE my note 5. I took the back cover off, peeled the sticker with the color/logo and spraypainted it a nice black then just glued the tin paper inside of that. Then I took a flat wireless charger and added neodymium magnets to it, modded it to be as small/thin as possible then covered it up with some black thin leather I bought from Michaels. I mounted it up to my car's console and now I just plop the phone onto it and it sticks tight and fast charges, no wires or case. Worked perfectly, but in hot weather the leather would become a bit slippery so it would slip off, but I fixed that with a couple of very small circular double sided gel tape on the bottom just to provide a bit of friction. I've ridden like this for the past 5 or 6 months and it doesn't slip or fall off at all, heavy bumps, hot weather, nothing dislodges it.
The only thing that doesn't work is the spen, and that's only directly over the magnets, but I wouldn't write on it anyway while it was mounted. Otherwise I've had zero difficulties with it. I'll post up pics if anyone is interested, but it's a bit frankenstein looking.

a) too powerful magnet --> screen unlocks/locks when you fold the cover to the back
b) the plastic will not brittle or break in normal use
c) when folding the cover to a stand it will hold together and not fold open by itself.
I got a cheap cover from aliexpress and it has all the 3 problems mentioned above and was thinking to buy a new one but looking at the feedback of different models (incl. Mookie) all covers seem to suffer from 1 or many of the above mentioned problems so I am little hesitant to order a new one unless I am 100% (or at least 90%) certain that i will get fully functional smart flip cover.
E.g. This one looks good but there is no way of knowing if it suffers from the above problems or not:

So any recommendations? Please provide a link to the item if possible. Cheers.
Well I ordered the one in the first post and I am quite happy with it. Magnet is working fine and it won't turn the screen off when totally folded backwards. The cover's plastic hasn't shown any signs of breaking.
But the c) point could have been a bit better. There is no magnet holding the triangle-shaped fold that makes the tablet stand on landscape but so far it is still working okey while the tablets weight is holding the fold together.
So far I would recommend the particular product. Good quality, perfect openings for buttons and ports and etc.. Smart function works like a charm. I would give this 9/10.

If you hold it upside down with case closed, does it open?
Seems to stay closed.
I've ordered one and I'm really satisfied, thanks.
To anyone who wants to order it from AliExpress - it's called BGR Mi Pad case.
Get one from xiaomi.com or xiaomi app from your device. Only works if you are in China though. But I have one and it is built of fake leather and magnets and backside is pretty hard, I guess they put some metal plate in side of it.

iPad style magnetic cover?

I'm looking a non-keyboard screen cover that attaches magnetically (like the official keyboard) so that I wouldn't have to remove the back portion of the keyboard cover.
I've been searching around, but havent' been able to find anything... which is crazy that aliexpress doesn't have something like this yet even...
This is magnetic book cover without keyboard
https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/m...-tab-s6-book-cover-cloud-blue-ef-bt860pleguj/
I would also get one of those should they exist. The Keyboard cover is nice, but it adds decent bulk and weight to the tablet, and sometimes you just know you won't need to type...
Anyone?

wao.. i was going to ask the same thing... I really like the keyboard, but sometimes would like to snap it off and snap in a cover only (no keyboard) without having to remove the case from the back of the tablet....
Like @techops said, you are looking for the Samsung BT860 Book Cover. It is not cheap but perfectly worth the price.
I'm using this. It's just as good as the Samsung magnetic case in my opinion
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-10-5-2019/dp/B07Z4HKTM4
It is the next best alternative, imo. I had them both in hand / on device and decided for the Samsung one, despite double the price. I preferred the feel and quality. Also the magnets on the Samsung one were holding the Tab better.
But opinions do vary, of course.

I just realised that OP looks for a keyboard snap on without the keyboard, sorry. With the book Cover you still need to take the back part of the keyboard Cover off.

Guys... I'm not looking for that.... let me try to explain...
The cover you suggest is a ONE piece cover.... the keyboard cover Samsung offers (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VZHQ2WF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) is a TWO piece cover... this is the cover I own... this cover "sticks" to the back of the tablet on one side and the keyboard flap magnetically connects to it...
If I were to buy the cover you suggest, I'd need to "unstick" the back cover from the tablet and then fitted to the cover you suggest. The problem is the "stick part"..... this is design to stick once in order to work properly.
What we're trying to find is a "flap" only cover that wot allow us only to remove magnetically the "keyboard flap" from the cover I won, and magnetically connect a simple "flap" cover, without having to "unstick" from the back of the tablet itself...
I hope this clears things up.. thanks!
edit: grammar
Ah, the thing I didn't know I needed
Know exactly what you mean... With the S3 I bought the bookcover because the keyboard cover made it a bit too bulky and I hardly used the keyboard itself. With the S6 I just have the keyboard cover and overall I like it (also, just pulling off the keyboard itself is easy and solves my main bulkiness issue when I don't need it at that moment. But a 'flap-only' would be great to just snap on for that extra protection and minimal bulk.

Well, ordered a cheap cover on ebay:
https://www.ebay.nl/itm/For-Samsung...353929?hash=item2161c70609:g:-8EAAOSwOOpdcNyE
Which I'll be cutting and trying to see if I can use the flap, add some magnets and dunno to see if I can make this work Worth a try for 10 euros and wouldn't use the case itse;f because the spen would just be hanging there without any cover/protection it seems.
coool!!! please keep us informed!!!!

Well, that failed
Thing is there seems to be a set of magnets in the tablet which are faced North/South/North/South... (so alternating orientation). I only had a few magnets to play around with but couldn't get the cover to stick.
THink too sturdy and not enough magnetic strength. Also, how to properly get the magnets to stuck on the case was a bit of a riddle to me, supergluing or something... (and not knowing if and how I might mess up the tablet by randomly putting magnets against it kinda stopped me from going too far).
So yeah, I'll leave it alone for now and just ordered the normal book cover as well... just in case.
A seperate flap would be a great product and solution though!

Hi. I agree 110% with you.. just bought a regular cover myself and some slim double sided tape for when I want to reattach the keyboard cover and make sure it sticks...

Gotta be careful with cheap after market cases and magnets. Some have reportedly interfered with the S-pen. You would be drawing on screen and the marks would not show up on certain sections of the screen.
Anyway I understand why you want the back cover because it's slippery when holding tablet without a cover. In my honest opinion the Samsung Book Cover without the keyboard is the best quality option out there. You could easily do what you want with it by cutting off the front. The tablet easily attached to the back perfectly every time.
I don't have your dilema though as I have separate Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and I just use the whole book cover. I use the Illuminated Logitech K810 Keyboard and the MX Anywhere 2S Mouse.

Yeah I know... And yeah, would wish the keyboard cover used magnets as well just like the book cover (worked fine in the s3 as well so no clue why they changed it). But I do really like the keyboard cover actually, so that is the best for me as I don;t have a desire to walk around with seperate keyboard/mouse or use bluetooth for the connection.
