Hey guys, been having battery issues for the last 3 months with my battery hitting 50% and then 0% in minutes. I initially thought the issue was 5.0 as it never happened on 4.4.4. Many clean installs and various versions and still the issue happens. With the phone being almost 2 years old, it actually dawned on me the actual battery ? was the issue. So bought a replacement yesterday and the back panel adhesive.
Can anyone give me tips on removing the back panel and installing the battery. I have not found much info on it.
Thanks
It's fixed with a 3M double tape...sorry for my English
Thanks @ninjasoft.
I bought the double sided adhesive tape specifically for the z1, should be OK to install. It's the removal of the back panel and replacing the battery that concerns me. I understand that the waterproof capabilities will be lost. Had anyone here changed out the battery before?
check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMa01HRF1zU
it's for changing the lcd, but in the first part they remove the back. They use a professional heater, while i doubt you have it. A normal hair dryer is ok too, i've done it, just you'll have to heat the phone a little more that in the video.

Thanks, checked out the vid. Very informative. Glad I bought the adhesive as well. Looking straight forward enough. Happy days.
OK battery successfully replaced. How should I go about getting it properly calibrated?
I use superglue after assemble back panel,
because when use 3M adhesive only, the back panel open itself when phone warm / hot while play game.
be careful with second mic hole, if not sealed properly, water can get from it

Use "battery calibration" from playstore. charge until 100%. then use normal till 1% then charge again until 100% without break (flight mode recommended).
Thanks @Alvian_P.
You need to have the phone rooted to use that app. I recently clean installed the latest Firmware 283. Can that be rooted yet?
Does Kingroot work?

some people says work with kingroot, if not use PRF tool to create preroot firmware, you can find in Sony cross device page.
btw, I press my phone like in pict when installing back cover
That's a great idea actually. Thanks for the tip
Yeah, but make sure your paper clip not on above touchscreen. Press on the egde screen.

hmm, i don't really like the idea of the super glue. What if u'll have to open the phone again for any reason, will it be possible to open the phone with heat if you put superglue?

yes may its look bad idea, but it will easy open use "electronic cleaner" like THIS, just spray on border between back cover and middle frame then use hairdryer to heat backcover. So you can easy open backcover using suction cup.
alternative rather than electronic cleaner, is a Aceton or Alcohol 90'
hope it help

Yeah, been working well after a couple of full charges and discharges, just to be sure, one occurance of the battery going form 40% and turning off when using the camera. Strange hasn't happened since.
I bought from here on eBay my battery.

Mine is coming up to 2 years old and was completely crap. Battery life was seriously hamper since going onto Lollipop. Was fine with KitKat.
I would suggest changing it for sure.
Realised that lollipop is the actual issue with battery drain. Went back to kit kat, rooted rom and usability is restored.
Hi, I too had the battery drop issue as you explained in your first post.
I replaced the battery as well.
The battery still shuts down when I use the camera sometimes also!
I'm wondering if it happens with yours on kitkat?
Battery draining
My Xperia z1 battery drains too quickly .. I think I need to replace it... My phone ? is only 1.5 yrs old .....can u tell me the mobile repair shop in bangalore... Bcoz sony service centre is asking for 24K rupee...

My SGS i9000 has a horrible problem, when I shake it, it turns off. Now it could either be loose battery or a loose battery contact. I would like to fix this myself (Loose batt contact) since I have mild knowledge in electronics, and have the necessary tools I believe.
I have had my SGS for less than 2 months so im still at warranty, but I would like to evade sending it to samsung since it takes a month or so to get it back, and I would have to reflash stock rom. I have an expensive plan and this seems as it could be easily fixed. Any guides, tips you could hand out? Should I just not mess with it ever for any reason? Is the i9000 too complex compared to say a DS?
Please any tips would be greatly appreciated, from materials to actual guides.

Make sure the battery sits securely in the case without jiggling and clean the contacts with a mild acetone.
Beyond that I would suggest taking it to a service center or tying a new battery.

As impossible as this sounds, I think the problem comes from my otter box cover. I just spent a whole day, without it, shaking it around and all, never turned off. Then immediately after putting it back it shut down! Is this even possible? Im so confused...
try putting something between the center of the battery and the back cover to put a little bit of pressure on the battery when the cover is on.
The otter cover may be causing the back cover to bow a little, allowing the battery to move.

Hmm, yes... Good thinking. I will stuff a piece of paper and close it up, hopefully this fixes that. If not, then samsung it is.
OK - I've watched several You Tube videos showing how to do this on the XT890, but still have a question (or two) - All the videos show the cable attaching the screen to the main case and the cable attaching the battery just popping off - I'm not sure I've seen a connector like this before - how easy is it really to simply undo? And then the battery removal -some show some heat gun action to remove, is this really required? Finally, how easy is it to do in reverse, but with a new battery?
Oh, one last bonus question - if I was going to do this I'd try to get a OEM part, not sure I trust anything else, is this a good idea?
Many thanks all

They are quiet easy to pop off. I did it just a few days ago. The only hassle is all those screws and that you need to gently apply some force on some parts to get it off.
I never went as far as replacing the battery itself, so no idea of why to use a heat gun. In one of those youtube video's it just flipped it lose with some small plastic thingy.
OEM parts are most of the time good quality. But others could be even better for less money. Just look around and hope more people have used the batterys and find some reviews.

Many thanks - I assume that after you "Popped" off the connector you pop it back. Is your Razr still totally bricked or were you trying some major surgery to get it alive again?

Yep, after you pop it off, u can pop it on again (easy). Just be careful and don't just pull off your screen without disconnecting the connector.
Still bricked. And will use this weekend again to try to get it back to live. But small chance...
Be careful, the backplate of the screen is fragile. Don't pressure it, you might break the amoled panel.
When I have time I can post some photos of the teardown and my destroyed screen... Battery is glued, heat gun is not a mandatory but preferred, because you could twist the battery a little.

Many thanks - I have all the tools, a "new" battery (someone on eBay was selling it as he'd bought it thinking the phone had battery issues - hopefully he was telling the truth). I just need the courage to do it.

Just take the time for it. Empty desk, places/bowls to separate all screws (there are more than 3 different screws) and indeed some courage. Scratches are common with this kind of things. Just be careful, especially with the screen. I personally don't mind scratches on the outside, but i dislike them on the screen.
Guys, I need help. I'm not sure of this problem is specifically due to software or hardware but it's very annoying since I have to be by the charger all day. The phone goes from 100 to 70% within like 45 minutes and then dies and when I try to turn it on, the red notification light flashes 3 times.
And the phone overheats so much it's not even funny, sometimes even while in standby with absolutely nothing happening. Help please.
Try to recalibrate your battery with a play store app it can help
1) try to flash stock sw with complete wipe of data
2) if that won't help then you'll have to go to some service center - a friend of mine had a similar problem with Xperia Z and some serviceman told him that the phone was a bit damaged with water, so they cleaned it up (don't ask me how though ..)

I had the exact same problem, except my phone died around 85%.
Replace the battery. The battery in there is made pretty cheap (also made in China); cheap batteries usually have a ton of flaws. I suggest you replace it yourself to lower the costs. Make sure you buy the right equipment too (battery, sticker adhesive glue, spudger tools, hexagonal screw driver (T5 or T6), heatgun/hair dry, guitar pick, suction cup, back cover is optional; I already had a heatgun so the whole thing costed me around $30). Look on YouTube, there's a guide of how to replace it.

Agreed.
My phone died at 50%, not much as you but it happened when i use it for 1 year only.
The only way to fix this problem is replace a battery.

Well it's almost time to replace the battery, I've noticed lately the battery life isn't what it used to be....no point blaming software when the phone is almost 2 years old and for AU$25 for the part....it will give it a new life.
Anyone replaced theirs yet? Did you do it yourself?
Well, no replies...I did it myself.
Easy as...20mins tops.
Let us know did you notice any improvement over the previous battery.

please let me know what video/instructions you used and how the phone went back together. most importantly how the better performance is now.
There's plenty on YouTube. The trick is a playing card and get the glass bloody hot to touch. Once you have the card in and they glass off its simple.
The back glass just pressed on and it's back to normal. I won't know battery performance until a few charge cycles. So far it's doing ok.
You're very good: a tech in a lab shattered my glass and let air come in under the front frame. Now I have a destroyed (but working...) Note 5 with a perfect battery: it lasts so long with Nougat.
I don't know how he glued the back again but it's all shattered: I have no tools but cards and hair dryier... Will them be enough to remove the back again and replace it by myself? (I'm no good at this but if the glass is already destroyed...)
Hi everyone here, I hope everyone has a good day today. I've got my phone has been dead for quite a while now, the reason is it has the question mark during charging and I can't turn it off. At the first I thought it was the battery problem, I tried open it myself and replaced it with a new battery, however it got worse and it showed question mark battery and the question mark started blinking.
I haven't done checking to the repair shop due to busy with work. What do you guys think about the problem (might be the battery or one of the connector to the battery(?) and how much does it cost to fix it? Thanks in advance
Has it been exposed to moisture?
Is the charging port clean?
Is the battery degraded (less than 80% of its original capacity)?
Is there any swelling, case or display bulging?
If so replace battery asap.
Otherwise, this is a serious problem. Use known good brick and cable. See if that resolves it.
The next step is to replace the battery and check all connections. If that fails replace charging port PCB and/or jack (if it has a replaceable one). If all that fails... mobo failure
Well at the first, I dropped it, then the battery stuck at 50%, then I pressed the back area but still the same, however this phone is already out of warranty so I replaced the battery by myself.

If not the battery or loose connector... something was damaged in the drop. Always use a good case to prevent high G loading damage.
Hey! That means the phone isn't detecting the battery. As I saw you made a repair and you have an XL model, check the flex cable itself, especially where it folds, as it's very sensible and you could have bent it too much, breaking the cable.
I say that because I actually did that mistake, the cable doesn't usually come bent, so you need to bend it so it can fit, and when I did that I actually break it.
Hope this helps you!

It's very hard to see using just the eye. Maybe if you have other phone try to zoom into the cable to check.
I usually buy this things from ebay. Just check it's a great seller and that the price isn't very cheap neither very expensive.
