Recently got an HTC One M7, and love the phone, but after firing it up on its wireless connection, I began noticing that my wireless network seems to be dropping its connection quite frequently. Upon closer inspection and reflection, this is not a new occurrence, but in our iPhone 4, iPad 1, HTC Evo 4G, ROKU XS, and several other OLDER wireless products household (albeit all on wireless N), I never noticed the disconnects as much as I do with the brand new phone now added to the network. I initially noticed the intermittent disconnect problems begin in earnest about four months ago and put them down to the usual crap-tastic service from Comcast, especially since we have had several full outages in recent months while they performed "service" in the area. I have a D-Link Gamerlounge DGL-4500 router and a Motorola Surfboard SB6120 modem. The firmware on the router is as up to date as it can be, and I have factory reset the phone twice, as well as applied all software updates.
So, here is my question...can a new piece of equipment like an HTC One place such a significant increase in demand on a potentially failing wireless radio portion of a router that it really magnifies the problem? I can stream movies over ROKU with no noticeable issues, but using the One in the Google Play store or the Blink Feed will send my router offline in about two minutes or less of use. My router logs show that each time I try to use the One wirelessly, I get the following message: "[INFO] Wireless system with MAC address XXXXXXX disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication". This is not the only time I get this message though. I get it seemingly out of the blue as well. I have contacted Comcast, and they insist, as usual, that it is my router. In this case, they may be correct, since I do understand that the wireless portion of a router can go bad long before the wired portion. I did already order a new ASUS RT-AC66U router and a Zoom 5341J Modem, since it is probably time to do so based on the number of unmentioned wireless products that we use. But, can the new phone place such a load on the network? We have always been power networks users as it is, so what on earth would a little ity-bitty cell phone add to the mix? Hopefully, the new phone's wireless radio isn't defective too. My concern is to decide whether I need to trade this phone in ASAP while I still can. I already had a horrible experience in the past with Sprint and my HTC Evo 4G that I was stuck with. Thanks in advance for any input for a noob to the forums.

It is most likely an incompatibility between the DGL-4500 and the wifi radio used in the One. I don't think your One is defective. There are a few (mostly older) routers that seem to have a problem with the radio used in the One (and some other wireless devices as well). I had a DGL-4300 that had the same problem with a specific laptop, and only replacing the router with a different model fixed it. I see that the last firmware update for your model was about 3 years ago so its probably time to upgrade anyway.
Replacing the wireless router will fix the problem. Your modem is fine and you didn't need to order a new one (the Moto SB6120 is much more solid than a Zoom anything).

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I was really scratching my head, having a gut instinct that your answer was going to be the case, but not knowing enough about networking to be certain. The One is a beautiful phone. My next task will be to spend many hours reading the XDA forums to learn about how to root it and install a custom ROM. I need to reclaim any memory I can from the crap software installed by Sprint that I will never use (including Facebook...sheesh).
BTW, I ordered the Zoom modem based on several things. One was the reviews of many Comcast users experiencing many of my current symptoms who also own my Motorola SB6120. It is also listed as one of Comcast's approved modems for the next tier of service when we decide to get it. Based on what you have said, I may just try the router swap first and see what happens there. That would save me some bucks! Thanks so much again!

I can confirm intermittent resetting issues after connecting an AT&T HTC One to the DGL 4500. I wonder if the DGL 5500 (due out 8/1) will suffer the same problems.
You know what's odd about that, I have a Linksys WRT54G2 that is having intermittent problems with disconnecting from the internet overnight. It happened last night. When I woke up, my phone was connected to WiFi, but I had no connection. Each time, I have to go out to the living room and power cycle the router to get my internet back. Same issue?

Very interesting, and very similar to a problem I was having until recently. I kept losing my internet connection several times/day. I logged into the router and disabled WPS; problem solved. I recently moved to an apartment where there could be a lot of WPS seeking devices (including my HTC One) that were trying to connect to it. I won't get too technical, but disabling WPS solved my problems. Frankly, I'm not a fan of WPS anyway. It might be something for you to look at though.
Interesting to see such a post, I was using video call last time on my laptop and noticed horrible video quality, and turning off my phone's WiFi seemed to help a lot. I'm still trying to determine which to blame, I thought the QoS device I set up might have clogged the bandwidth before.
The "fix" for me that I saw on another thread on this site was setting it to transmit on 802.11 G standard only. No more intermittent router resets.

While setting the router to wireless G only definitely fixes the problem, I did not buy high end gaming routers only to "cripple" them by using only wireless G. That ain't gonna happen. My DGL-4500 Gamerlounge router was specifically designed with gamers in mind, and it was definitely awesome. The ASUS RT-AC66U that I just replaced the 4500 with is another high end router. I am not dropping the signal at all in such a way as to be noticeable now, but looking through the logs carefully shows an occasional very quick drop every so often. It is curious, because my HTC Evo 4G started out with wireless N and then Sprint updated the software about six months after I bought it and removed the wireless N capability completely. That really pissed me off, let me tell you. So, to have wireless N problems still, with an HTC phone and Sprint, makes me highly suspicious. I would be curious to know if AT&T HTC One owners have the same trouble. I am willing to bet money they do not. Oops! Scratch that. I see an AT&T HTC One user above saying they have the same problem. Guess I cannot blame Sprint just yet.
I do appreciate your input though. I do not want to sound ungrateful in my above response. Another upcoming project for me will be to root my HTC Evo and see if I can restore the wireless N. then, I will just see if there is a problem with that radio. If not, I can place the blame squarely on whatever software tweaks Sprint places on these phones and proceed to rooting my HTC One as well, thereby thumbing my nose at Sprint.

I find your answer extremely intriguing! I am pretty sure that WPS was disabled on my DGL-4500 router because I could never get it to work, so I disabled it. However, it is enabled by default on the new router I bought. I am going to try disabling it and see if performance improves on my network. I never use WPS anyway, preferring to manually set up my devices. Thanks for the input!

I have seen various posts on this problem advising to turn off QOS, however, since my understanding of QOS is that it is designed to prioritize the use of bandwidth properly so that things like streaming video are stutter free? Of course, everything can go horribly wrong in networking, depending on the overall circumstances. I currently have QOS turned off on my new router, but it was on on the old router. I will experiment with it later today to see if it makes a difference. I believe you can also tell QOS what to prioritize, depending on the settings available in your router software.

The router I have has a list for QoS devices, and if there's something wrong with that device, it might just gulp up all the bandwidth, I think, so I turned it off. But for the software QoS, which the router might try to determine which service should take the priority, I think I didn't touch. I did turn off the WPS as someone suggested, but didn't have a chance to test the performance of video call. Of course, I'm too cheap so I just got a 3MB cable service, if that's 6, it should be hard to mess up.

i had this problem with a BELKIN N router, i did a firmware update, and set it at n only(all my devices are n draft)works great now

My router started having the same issue as soon as i connected my HTC One to it, except my router is a D-Link DIR-655. The solution was similar to what bsmith said, I just turned off the 802.11n mode and had it mix between 802.11g and b modes. I did that a little over a week ago and haven't had any problems since.
My guess is that the frequency of the 802.11n mode isn't compatible with the HTC One's, but again, it's just a guess so I could be wrong.
A number of people have been having issues with wifi, myself included. I keep going over my monthly data restriction. I want to know if this is affecting everyone or only a subset of people. If it's the latter, I'll call customer service and get a replacement.

Can you describe the issue a little more? Try testing your connection with Aruba Utilities.

don't know what the OPs issues are, but I just got the Moto X yesterday and it is not liking my home wifi. Every other wifi I've been on today (at work) has worked great. At home it connects to my router and shows great signal but nothing internet related will load. Everynow and then it will work only to stop working randomly. I have comcast with their ARRIS gateway.
All my other devices at home (roku, dish DVRs, iphone, ipad, GNex, laptops) work fine.
If you have a dual band router, set the frequency settings to either 2.4 or 5ghz instead of auto. I initially had inconsistent Wi-Fi functionality until I did this, now it seems to be fine. I have an Asus ac56u.

Just like tabbibus said, it shows great signal and has no problem quickly connecting, but nothing loads 3/4ths of the time. For example, I ran speedtest and it stopped partway through the upload even though it was still connected. I can't change router settings because I rely on college wifi.
So it seems like half get the issue and half don't?

The frequency setting is in your advanced Wi-Fi settings on your phone. Set it to 2.4 instead of auto and see if that helps.

That didn't work.
Having issues with my WiFi. Been doing it for a week or so. Every few days and now since yesterday my WiFi will all together quit working. Says connected but I get no internet and can't access my gateway with it. I have Xfinity internet and all the other phones and laptops work fine on it. But my phone just straight won't work on the WiFi unless I hard reset my phone. Tried DNS settings and static IP address and all. Multiple reboots of both device and gateway. Can't seem to find anyone else having this issue. Any thoughts from anyone before I take it to Verizon?

wifi sucks on this phone. I don't get the disconnects but it is very slow to load anything and everything. Pictures, web pages, whatever. Doesn't happen to the other 15 devices on my network. LTE works fine
When it connects I have no problems with speed. Despite being up to date with software I have to reset every few days for it to work here lately. I've even hard reset my AP and checked the firmware on it and everything else works fine before and after. Its just this phone. I finally got it working again after a reset last night so if it does it again I'm just going to Verizon with it. I'm no IT specialist but I know enough to try different things and still no remedy other than hard reset.

Believe it or not, I have this problem too. I'll be completely connected with nothing going wrong with my network, but I'll have no access to the internet. I'll go to my tablet or my roommate's phone and there will be no problems.
I'm still looking up other forums and Verizon as well to see what possibly could be up with it. If I find anything useful I'll let you know. It's pretty frustrating when I don't have unlimited data anymore like I had on Sprint. If I did I really wouldn't care to be honest, but Verizon's service has by far surpassed Sprint in Houston.

I've noticed that when my device sits idle for long periods, overnight for example, while connected to my home WiFi there doesn't appear to be any throughput. It seems to be connected in every other respect. Toggling WiFi off/on sorts it for me though. I know that I've read that this is a reported bug that is to be fixed, but naturally, I've been reading so much at so many different sites, that I can't for the life of me recall exactly which site it was. I'm guessing that you issues are somewhat different than mine?
Yeah. I can toggle or reboot or reset my AP all day when it does this and it will never fix it. I tried for 2 days of different fixes I've seen online but the only thing that gets it back is a hard reset.

Might be a fluke but just got home and no WiFi like I expected. Did a hard reset on my AP with the reset button instead of through my laptop by logging into it. Forgot network on my phone. Rebooted it. Connected and it was fine. Pain in the ass if I have to do it every day but if it works it works.

I also recently started having this problem. Frequent disconnect / reconnect to Wifi with no data passing through. I had to shut off my mobile data because it was increasing my data usage at home.
I also noticed this problem too. It shows I have Wi-Fi connection but no internet or email access. When I disabled the WiFi, internet comes back. It's also xfinity Wi-Fi router. That's only place I have Wi-Fi issues.. No issues at home. Maybe it's compatibility issues with xfinity router?

I'm using an Netgear AC1750 router...No issues with Wifi at work.
I'm pretty convinced its the Xfinity access points. I don't have WiFi at work as I work in a shop, but the WiFi at my in-laws (Sudden Link) worked fine this weekend. I am now I'm having the same issue with my laptop all the sudden as well is why I am really thinking that it's their hardware and not mine. Never had this issue with AT&T when I had them. Had already switched to Comcast before I got the Turbo so I can't say with 100% certainty.

Sounds like it could be....if you have another Wifi router you could try it and disable the AP on the Xfinity modem. On my network, only the Droid Turbo has trouble with WiFi. I've got 7 other devices on there that all work fine.
Never set up an external router on it. I as well have 3 other phones, 2 other laptops and 2 tablets that all work fine with it. Xfinity just hates the turbo. Lol My laptop I think was a fluke as it hadn't been turned on in a few days. I just think it didn't want to refresh the settings until I released/renewed, then it was fine. I'll find out tonight when I get home anyways.

I also don't think its interference either. My father in law is an ex cop and radio operator. He has all sorts of repeaters and radios and all I haven't a clue about set up. If there was going to be any interference involved I'm pretty sure it would be there. Heh.

Yeah. Reading through some of that I never have hanging issues. Mine would just flat out not work at some points. Other than hard reset on the phone I have only found 1 way to fix it.
1. Forget WiFi network and shut off phone.
2. Hard reset my AP with reset button on back of it.
3. When AP is finished rebooting turn on phone and reconnect to WiFi.

I unchecked WiFI Optimization in Advanced Settings and web pages are loading a lot better than before. Latency lowered a bit. Worked both on 2.4ghz and 5ghz setup I have

Wicked wakelocks and WiFi issues
Just yesterday I started having wicked WiFi issues, where both 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks would connect, then immediately disconnect, then connect again a few seconds later for it to just do the same thing, over and over. It keeps sending reports everytime it does it. I haven't factory reset though, but I'm going to have to.
Also, I keep getting insane wakelocks. Android OS is the worst, causing 7h+ of wakelocks in a 10h day. Google Play Services is pretty bad too, around 6h+ in that same 10h day.
Anyone else having major issues like this with their Note5? I have the N920W8 model, which I can't really find any info about anywhere
Im having similar wifi issues. Initially trying to connect to my 5ghz N home network (wpa2 psk) connect attempt, drop, connect attempt drop rinse and repeat. After a while it connects and stays connected, however, connecting to any web pages is painfully slow (like a super slow dns lookup), and i frequently get failed web page loading errors or failed to download apps from teh app store. Wifi calling is useless in this state. The same thing happens on an open hotspot network at work (2.4ghz) and the corporate (5ghz n) network. The note will ususally eventually drop wireless and force me back onto LTE. I looked at my data counter after just 3 days, and had used 27gigs of LTE, which is more data than I've used on tmobiles network since last year. Had some spotty wireless issues with teh note 4 rev 3 5.1.1 as well prior, but only had that phone for about 10 days before swapping for teh note 5. Prior to that I had the nexus 6 and no wireless issues on the same networks.

Luckily i have a dual dualband router, I set up the alternate AP 2.4ghz N wpa2 psk and the phone appears to be working fine at the moment on that network.
I ended up factory resetting and it appears working for now. A static IP address (DHCP reserved in the router) seemed to help.
Another issue I have though is when disconnecting from WiFi and connecting to mobile data, it seems to have DNS resolution issues until I turn data off and then back on. Not sure if it's the phone or the carrier (Wind Mobile) but it's pretty consistent

I'm just having dreadfully slow WiFi on my att model, but it doesn't drop connection
Dial *#0011# and click "wifi settings" from the menu at the top right corner. Turn off power saving mode and restart the phone, see if that does the trick.
If not, google search "note 3 wifi issues" and/or "note 4 wifi issues"and look for answers there. In all likelihood the problems that are being experienced with Wi-Fi on the note 5 are similar to the Wi-Fi issues that the predecessors experience when they launched.

It's Lollipop. It's a known bug in the software since Nov 2014 and Google hasn't addressed it. I too had issues with my WiFi when I first purchased it. But I found the work around. The bug is in the security software. The WpA2-PSK with TKIPS or AES which is a catch all, reeks havoc on our WiFi chips. It doesn't allow the phone to have proper DNS addresses resulting in severely slow internet or dropped connections.
Solution: Change your security standard to WPA/WPA2-PSK without AES or TKIPS.

Hey guys,
I've got an Australian Samsung note 5 that has wifi problems. It started not working all of a sudden so i decided to go along with it but after a while i felt the need to try and make it work again. So i went into recovery mode and factory resetted (thinking that it would help) but then on the boot up after i came to the setup screen and found out that i was screwed. The samsung setup screen doesnt let you go past the setup screen without any wifi. Please help, i wanted to post a thread but im new to this community so i am restricted.

p.s wifi networks can be detected but only when the phone is held right next to the router.
I fixed same problem of wifi, its a setting in phone, but you need to root phone, its system setting in system folder.
Any updates on this? Im running one 920g completely stock and another 920g with hybrid n7 port v9. Both have this same issue.

So, I got a tab s2 for christmas. So far I'm loving it, except it will not stay connected to 5g wireless for long! Sometimes it will kick me out every half hour or so of continuous usage, other times it will kick me every 5 minutes. The connectivity problem seemed at first like I just had to adjust something with my network except that any other device that uses the 5g signal does not have that problem! ALSO, sometimes when it hangs it completely freezes the tablet and I have to do a hard reboot (power and vol down buttons) to make it usable again.
At one point I was in the wifi settings page and saw the wifi toggle go grey. It NEVER reconnected after 3 or 4 reboots! Is there something wrong with this particular tablet or is this some sort software issue?
My router is a netgear r6250 fwiw.
Try changing channels on the router, you may have interference on the channels it's using
You can use InSSider to check for channel congestion.

I have been using Netgear Wifi Analytics to figure out my wifi dropping. I have no trouble with signal in the house...None of my other wifi devices are having trouble! As a matter of fact, just a little while ago, while testing the wifi on the tablet, the signal dropped. I pressed the home button then the whole tablet froze again. Instead of hard rebooting it, I decided to leave it alone to try to get it to unfreeze on its own. It did after about a minute...BUT the area near the volume and power buttons are was pretty warm/hot. The battery also lost nearly 8% in that time as well!
Does this particular one I have just simply have a bad wifi switch/modem/antenna?
I have the same issue. SM-T810 keeps dropping wifi connection to my netgear r7000. Both 2g and 5g. None of my other devices have the issue. Seems to occur a lot with chrome or anything else that saturates the wifi link.
I'd suggest getting the tablet replaced. I've disabled the 2.4GHz mode on two of my routers (ASUS AC66U and ASUS TM-AC1900) and my Tab S2 never had any troubles with 5GHz on these routers.
Anyway, no matter what obscure configuration your router might have, it shouldn't cause the whole device to freeze. Unless Samsung seriously screwed something up, even if the wifi driver crashed (in the worst case), the worst that would happen is that Android won't let you turn on the wifi.
I replaced mine yesterday and the new one is just fine!
I called the Samsung help line, described the symptoms and they said it sounded like a hardware fault rather than a software issue - took my reference number back to place of purchase and swapped it over for a new one. The new one has had zero issues, has not disconnected from wireless once or frozen and even just general browsing seems smoother - the first one definitely had some issue with the wifi bit.
This without even rebooting the R7000 router between the last bout of freezing and disconnections with the old tablet this morning and then starting to download all my apps and settings and wireless sync of 2 gig of data for the new tablet without a single hiccup two hours later. So the router or signal are not the issue.
