You don't need s-off to flash kernels and roms all you need to do is root the phone... Busybox will not work on a stock kernel ever because the stock kernel is write protected. Where are you from so I can give you instructions on rooting the phone... I need to know if you're 32 or 64 bit.

I'm using 32 bit and I'm already rooted. But I don't get it last time I was looking to install a kernel , it was called Rinhestone or something like that and I read that I needed to be s -off

Nope no s-off required. Just flash that kernel with an app called flashify from the play store since you're already rooted and Busybox will work.

So pretty much any kernel then :

1. I use arhd's super wipe tool, available from his thread in development section, even for other ROMs and it works fine, or u can do it all manually in recovery.
2. Yes
3. Flash through recovery. Download zip to root of sd card using pc, boot into recovery and follow instructions...simples

I think u need to be s-off before u can root, but I may be wrong. U might aswell s-off as u need this to flash custom ROMs and therefore use ROM manager, as this needs superuser rights which u get with s-off and root.

On the topic of both starter questions and installations, why won't ROMs flash with s-off? What's the big difference between that and s-on and why does one void our warranty with HTC?
(Apologies in advance, if this derails this thread at all.)

You mean why can't we flash ROMs with S-ON! Because this means security on. Basically HTC went and locked their bootloader on most earlier devices and therefore they cannot be hacked. The AlphaRev team have successfully managed to develop a tool to achieve this and enable users to gain root access, install ClockWorkMod recovery (a way of installing custom ROMs and also taking a snap shot of ur current ROM is you mess up and need something to go back to) custom themes etc, etc.
HTC have apparently learnt the error of their ways and promised not to lock the bootloaders in their newer shipped models, however they don't particularly like us messing around with it hence voiding the warranty if you do this...but it is possible to go back to S-ON like nothing ever happened using AlphaRev.
Hope this answers your question, now stick to the topic....
Ha, only joking
Of course I know I need to e-off my device be4 roo/flash rom. What I want to know is : do I need to s-off before using rom manager.

ROM Manger needs root access, so yes you need S-OFF so you can root and install ROM Manager

If trickdroid 5.6 is riunning Android 4.1 then you should be fine. I think the only issues are running 4.2 roms

The revone method doesn't require root, also let's you unlock bootloader without HTCDev
Found it a lot simper as well, took a few attempts to get going tho
My biggest problem was I forgot to put sudo (only needed for linux) and I forgot to put the file extension.

Another vote for revone from me. I've just got S-OFF with it, and it's very easy by following the guide they have on their post.

How do I flash completely back to stock?

Although I enjoy most of what the HTC First has to offer, I think I would like to return it. So, I was wondering if anyone could instruct me on how to flash back to stock and if there was a way, remove the "Tampered" message in the bootloader?

Is there any way you could help me understand why Moonshine isn't working for me? I'm on 1.08, unlocked bootloader, rooted, and I have CWM (not sure if the custom recovery matters). I plug it in with the OEM Cable and USB Debugging on as instructed. However, when I run Moonshine, it goes as far as Test 3 and then it starts running through several rows of dots.
Edit: Scratch that. I figured out that all I needed to do was turn off my Firewall. So, now that I have S-Off, how do I go about flashing it back to the Stock ROM/Recovery?

As a followup to this, does anyone have a copy of the stock recovery? It looks like the OTA updates don't work with CWM.

Since you have s-off I don't know why you want a stock ROM/recovery. Either the v1.08 or v1.04 zips will install with CWM (not TRWP last I tried). http://www.androidruu.com/?developer=Myst

about kernel
Hey guys im new to the forum, i got this phone from ebay, its just what i need, btw i like dev so maybe thats why i picked a htc, well the thing is i installed jmz's kernel amazing stuff but i wanted to go back to stock kernel to try differents roms, im s-off with ub and using cwm, i tried to compile the kernel source (i use ubuntu 13.04) with no luck at all, it looks like its about the toolchains, but well is there a kernel that i can just install it with cwm as a zip?

There are no roms fr the One which have no Wifi
There are maany roms based on stock Sense 5.5 which offer a lot more custimizations, like RAM usage in the mutitasking menu, changing the grid size in the app drawer, nd MILLIONS of other mods, than the default stock rom. ARHD, InsertCoin, MaximusHD, ViperOne are a few roms which i can remember. I wud recommend any of these Sense roms instead of pure stock

I would suggest Maximus 32.0 , closest to stock, bug free, great battery life,
works good with custom kernels etc..

Certain variants of the One like the Verizon version cant b unlocked thru HTCDev. The Verizon One needs to b unlocked with Rumrunner. There are special tools required fr certain variants. I only know so much, coz mine is International Unlocked. Search the forum fr any threads which solve ur issue(Im sure some1 wud have had the same issue). Otherwise Create a separate thread fr ur issue

Nonsense ROM 1.04: Sense Home, aka BlinkFeed

I seem to be having a problem with using Sense Home on my Desire 510 after converting back to Nonsense ROM 1.04. Every time I try to log into Sense Home after installing it from Google Play, it tells me that it failed to connect to the HTC servers. Is there a certain library I need to install to my system? If so, can and how would I go about getting this from RaptorROM?

You don't need a computer! You can flash a recovery by using Flashify from the play store! And after flashing recovery you can then flash the roms from within the recovery app itself.. No Computer needed AT ALL.. But you do need to make sure you download the correct stuff to flash so you don't make a mistake and end up needing a PC.

I usually used to just hand everyone the URL Addresses to whatever they wanted but at this point I realize that I'm not helping anyone learn to use the search function by doing that so instead I actually look and then confirm or deny whether there's something available or not. But thanks for noticing that!!
