[Q] Help me identify and remove this obnoxious sound! - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a wallet case with a magnet in it and when I wrap one side to the back of the phone I get this annoying sound.
youtube link: /watch?v=Whl31v7fKIo
I thought it was a docking sound because of the magnet in the case, but i removed all the suspected sounds from system/media/ui, but I still keep getting it
If anyone knows what this sound is and where it is so I can remove it, I will be eternally grateful.

No idea but for information purposes, the wireless charging sound (which is different to this) if you remove it, still plays. You have to replace it with a silent .ogg file.

Probably NFC, if you have that enabled. Try disabling.

speakerphone when turned face down?

Is there an app that can automatically turn on the speakerphone when the phone is placed face down? I think this would be a pretty cool addition. Any thoughts?
Gyrator can detect when you are using the phone and turn it face down and run a keypress for you. No idea if that could be used to turn on the speakerphone though.
Neat idea until your laying on your bed talking to your gf when your wife walks in!!!
[Note]Not that I would ever do that[/Note]
Would be a neat feature though, as long as you could disable it.

Im not married, so no worries there! I just thought it would be convenient if I had to put the phone down for something then it would automatically switch to speaker.

Ok, if you like the TD2's speakerphone on flip stunt, then here's a cool tip for you...
Using Gyrator:
- Add a new "Rotation" event.
- Set application to Phone on the "Application" tab.
- On the "Orientation" tab check on "Portrait", "Face-down", and "Face-up".
- On the "Actions" tab check on "Simulate Keypress".
- Goto "Advanced" tab and select key "F16,127" which triggers the windows-native "Speakerphone Toggle event".
Done.
Now, starting NOT on speakerphone, whenever you put your phone on a level surface --facing up or down-- during a call, the speakerphone will toggle ON -> Moreover, if you pick it up it should toggle OFF. Good enough?
Cheers
P.S. You can also do the same for a "Stylus Out" event to fire when "Phone" application is focused, thereby simultaneously toggling on the speakerphone and starting up a new Note (default behaviour) whenever you take the stylus out during a call. Aren't we the lazziest lot..

Fascinating stuff. All of this customization is one of the things keeping the Fuze in my pocket still. Once in a while the bulk and weight drag me down, then I fall back in love the the ability to tinker the thing to exactly how I like it.
Directly related to this. I'd be curious to know how well the speakerphone works on a technical level when face down. I believe the speakerphone microphone is still on the front of the Fuze which I assume will negatively affect the overall performance.
I've tried this but I cant get it to work on a call out. Maybe I just put it in wrong. Let me know if you guys were able to get it to work.

I thought the microphone was at the bottom side ofthe phone. just above the USB port? Am I wrong? Thats what it looks like on my fuze.... otherwise I have no idea what that little hole is!

Yes, that is where the microphone is at. I usually turn my phone face down anyway while on speakerphone since the speaker is on the back and makes it easier to hear.

I can't get this to work...any ideas?
I was certain this feature was included out of the box and I had just lost it when I flashed new ROMs.
My Touch Incall Screen Tweak can perform this function - just search for it on here - its normally on the first page of this sub-forum. (not in a position to find the link, sorry).
Cheers,
Steve

Mate, stop reading outdated stuff! Find & use "Touch-InCall-Screen-Tweak" program, it is SUPER cool; its like magic...auto speakerphone whenever the device is not on your ear, very customizable too.
Cheers

Reconstruct GPS antenna

Om youtube i saw a mod to increase audio volume, I tried it.
I removed the backcover, beside the camera I saw some tape and removed it, not knowing it was the GPS antenna. So now I can't get a fix on gps anymore.
I feel really stupid now.
Doe anyone know how to fix this, create a new antenna or something.
On the inside I saw some contact but I don't know which one is the gps.
I think it 's supposed to be on the left side as seen on the bottom picture.

[Q] [Q / REQ] Disable the magnetic lock/unlock

Does anyone know a way to disable the magnetic sensor that locks and unlocks the screen? I use a Steelie Nite Ize http://www.niteize.com/product/Steelie-Car-Mount-Kit.asp as a car mount and the magnet immediately locks my phone.
I know on previous phones I used someone usually finds a way to disable this feature. But I cannot find anything for the Nexus 6.
Any help is appreciated!

Me Too!!
I'm having the same issue as well!!! This is tremendously annoying.
I bought the Logitech dashboard/windshield magnetic mount just yesterday and tried to unlock my phone while connected to it and as soon as it locked back again I immediately thought - "MAGNET! Damn!"
To me a magnetic solution seems most elegant since you don't have to release any mechanisms to remove or place your phone but obviously it loses it's function when you can't even unlock your device. I can't find ANYTHING on the Nexus 6 magnet on the net. I've seen a couple of things about the Nexus 7 magnet and apparently IT has an option to disable the lock function unlike the Nexus 6.
I'll keep looking into it as best as I can but if anyone has any insight into how to disable this function it would be greatly appreciated. I'm wondering if there's maybe a kernel level command/modification like the one that disables the hidden LED on our phones that could disable it.
There's an app called Magnet Unlocker that definitely detects the magnet and gives you a meter/readout of magnetic field strength that's supposed to let you configure behaviors based on the magnet being activated and also lets you adjust the sensitivity but i can't seem to make it do anything. Maybe you guys can try and have success with it. I found it here:

Disable Magnet for flip cover

HI, i want to be able to disable the magnet in MM, currently use xposed module but it is only compatible with LP, does anybody have any solutions or ideas to get this accomplished in MM?
Is it too simple an idea to suggest losing the cover and swapping to another that doesn't have magnets?
Not trying to be clever, just asking what seems to be the obvious question - if you don't want the magnet functionality, why buy it?

Ha...fair question. The problem is that I use a magnetic stand/mount in my car (by far the best stand to use in your car) and whenever I put it on the mount my screen turns off. The module would simply disable that.

Major Issues with my N6! Can Anyone Help?

So my main issue right now is no sound whatsoever unless I use a wired headset (earbuds etc).
No sound through speaker. Any changes made in options to troubleshoot have failed.
Also, I have no camera app at all. It's like it never existed for this phone.
I'd be okay with it, simply because I finally got the phone up and running again after a battery and mid-frame assembly replacement, but I need sound and camera. Especially the camera due to my banking app.
My Setup
twrp-3.2.1-0-shamu
RR-N-Neo-v5.8.5-20180119-shamu-Unofficial - Android N 7.1.2
open_gapps-arm-7.1-mini-20180122
Magisk 15.3 (from official XDA thread)
*optionally - Viper4android 2.5.0.5
So the two main problems are no sound at all unless I have headphones in.
No camera app or anything
I will add, I can access the non-existent camera through the gallery app included in that RR Neo build, but it FC's immediately and continually.
I've done every wipe imaginable minus a factory image flash of the last Nougat build for our phones.
Complete wipes including: in TWRP the "yes" option on Format Data.
Factory Reset followed by Dalvik, Cache, System, and Data wipes.
Essentially everything I've been doing without issue for the few years I've owned this phone.
If anymore info is needed I'm willing to provide it, sincerely hope someone can help me diagnose or possibly fix this phone.
Seriously, thanks for any help provided.
Just help me get away from this iPhone 5 loaner

The above concerns me...
Was the sound working prior to the replacement?

Yep, was working perfectly before replacement and for about a day or so after.
Only issue I had sound-wise was with static-y audio when headphones or aux cable was plugged in for my car's head unit.
Not sure what happened. I did notice on the mid-frame assembly I bought, there was no earphone speaker, it's the module next to the camera. So today I added it to the new mid-frame and no dice...also to be sure I used my old headphone jack on the old frame, and no change.
Could it be the battery isn't strong enough?
EDIT:
The battery I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DJZMJH4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Midframe: https://www.fixez.com/motorola-nexus-6-midframe-and-bezel-midnight-blue

No, wouldn't be the battery.
Ok so, that speaker you added to the mid frame by the camera on top, has two pins. Those two pins need to be facing towards the camera (they touch two metal contacts). If those pins aren't touching those contacts, it won't work. Likewise, the speaker on the bottom that is attached to the motherboard, has two tiny pins (one on each side) that make contact to two metal plates on the mid frame. Check and make sure these things are making contact.

So I just checked the contacts, and that speaker is seated properly.
No sound.
It's killing me right now. This battery is doing fantastic, but I can't use the phone.
Still no camera either. Just doesn't show up in app drawer, on launcher or anywhere but gallery.
Starting to think the phone might be a goner. Which would be a shame...

That's a shame man. Sounds like something was either damaged during the replacement or some ribbon cables may not have been seated all the way, idk. If it were me, I'd do a complete tear down and put it all back together and hope for the best.

UPDATE:
@Neo
I took your suggestion, tore everything apart, at least on the frame, turns out the frame wasn't making good contact with the LCD panel. Once that was established, I put everything together again and thankfully had one of the last factory images released from Google, re-flashed stock with the toolkit, and once it booted up, camera worked and so did the sound! But only out of one speaker.
Checked the frame again, turns out the new one had that clear plastic blue, sticky tape looking stuff, moved that and bottom speaker worked too.
TL;DR
Problem solved, turns out I wasn't thorough enough with making sure all ribbons and modules were making contact with the frame and LCD panel. Oh and flashing a factory image fixed all software related problems (no camera app showing up or working etc).
Happy camper for now!

That was the only thing I could think of
Improper contact with the pins. If you had done all this and it still didn't work, I'd have been at a loss lol. Glad you're up and running.
