volume is terrible... why? anyone? - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

so after I updated to 5.1 the volume in speaker is so bad I have to mute my tv.. I don't recall if this happened after I encrypted or before bit to say the least it used to be very loud now it's so bad it's driving me crazy.. I am clueless of what to do... now this would be no problem if I had [email protected]!# ing root but I dont.. any solutions guys.. gals please help if you can... thanks!

I'm sorry, I can't offer a solution. I just wanted to say that I also noticed a drop in speaker volume going from KitKat to Lollipop. I find it strange that the software side of things could affect a hardware issue so much.

Volume has always been terrible with this phone and now on LP it's even worse. I think CF is working on adding Viper which if I understand correctly should increase the volume. So I guess we just have to wait.

that doesn't help me with a non rooted device

disable speaker effects on phone speaker on sound settings

did that didn't work

I've noticed the volume is lower as well. I'm hoping ComputerFreak bumps it up in his image again.

mine isn't low it's almost non existent.. I can hardly hear YouTube in a not so busy sushi restaurant. it's unbelievable!!! really.

i have a config file to boost the volume of the phone, but you have to be rooted, is also included on computerfreek mofo versions.

thanks but I updated to 5.1 even before the ota... bad move I guess.. unless you know of a way to root 5.1

just got a new update that fixed volume for the most part at least better than it was I think

I have experienced the same problem on the same ROM but never thought it was that big of an issue to start my own thread. But since you started on, I guess I will jump on the bandwagon. Sometimes the volume control problem is sporadic and it will work, but I havent really noticed when the times are that the volume works (like after a reboot). I'll try to take notice, also, I'm not sure a logcat would help otherwise I would provide it on the CM thread. Anybody want to weigh in on this and see if its worth raising the issue on the CM thread? If I can't produce a logcat then I doubt Cyanogen will be able to reproduce the problem and therefore will not be able to address the situation.
BTW, I also have Meltus's latest AudioHack. I figured I'd mention it since it has to do with the volume.
Hamtoast, do you have the AudioHack?
i dont have the audiohack, though i thought about getting it after i noticed this problem. i wasnt sure if itd help though and didnt want to shell out the $2 or however much it costs. my volume is otherwise fine and i have no other issues with it (like being too quiet, which is why most people get the audiohack to my understanding).
this issue we are experiencing is of course not of major importance and doesnt interfere with use, but personally i adjust volume regularly while on the phone, depending on my location and who im talking to. its rather inconvenient not being able to do it.
Okay, so the whole slight volume change was false, there is absolutely zero difference in volume during calls. I read somewhere that it could be an issue with the radio. i was planning on getting the newest radio and danger spl soon so as soon as i get a new sd card ill be testing that to see if the radio is the issue. i will also be trying a hero rom so if CM is the problem i will find that out.
I have a similar problem where my phone is one step from maximum volume (in call) it will not go up to max unless I press volume down them go up. I do not have the audio hack fyi. I guess it may be worth bringing up for cyano to prehaps work on because we r all running his rom with and without audio hack and having problems with volume. I am sure that others are havimg similar problems aswell.
I have the exact same problem. I am going to have to go to a different ROM because of this my phone is new and talking to most people is ear splitting.
i guess ill bring it up in a cyano forum or send a message or something. it certainly is annoying, and it does seem to be related to the ROM.
i dunno if you all are having this issue or if youve noticed or not but it could be related... anyway, if im using headphones and get a text or email or phonecall (anything requiring some sort of notification) i lose all sound to my phone until i reboot it. i checked the builds and it said he addressed some headset issue in 4.2.9.1 but it seems to be there still. just wonderin if anyone noticed that.
ill be looking into cyano forums and trying to find a fix.
@HamToast,
I have mostly noticed just general sound loss. Not anything really related to the headset. Notifications will drop out, phone won't ring sometimes, volume control problems etc. For example, right now, no matter how much I adjust the volume, the sound coming from the screen clicks are always the same volume.
Also, I have the latest radio and the Danger SPL so I'm not sure if that has any bearing on the sound issue. My signature is up to date with the exception of running both the latest CM build as well as the latest Amon_RA recovery image.
aw you have the latest radio and danger spl? im running older radio/spl and was hoping an upgrade would help
i wonder what the issue is with this sound buginess... i went to the newest CM 4.2.10.1 and it was so slow with a considerable amount of hangtime in certain apps, so i went back to 4.2.9.1. the sound issues werent fixed in x.10 or x.10.1

HTC One Volume Extremely Low.

I have a rooted Verizon HTC One that I recently just got. Love the phone but one morning I discover that my volume level on literally everything is extremely low. The headphone jack will produce only a whisper of noise and when i turn the volume all the way up I can hear the music distort as if it was extremely loud but its barely even able to hear. The front speakers of the phone refuse to work with system sounds and media sounds and all the sliders are up. I've tried this on multiple ROMS, Liquid, Cyanogen, and on multiple updates, JB, KK, etc. and nothing seems to fix the issue. The speaker works I know for a fact because I can make and recieve phone calls but its a great deal quieter than before. But as for the ringer and notification sounds, or any kind of media nothing comes out of the front speakers. I'm at a complete loss. All volume+ apps don't do a damn thing in helping and I've ravaged Google looking for a solution and can't find any. It may help to know that the bottom speaker would cut out every once in a while the last week before this happened. It also stopped working on a KK ROM. if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate. I'm just about to give up.

Try to reset to 100% stock. If it doesnt work then its probably an hardware issue.

[Q] .757 Speaker issues, what do I do?

Hello, yesterday I updated and re-updated the latest (at least for Argentina) KitKat firmware.
The problem is that I'm still getting the speaker issues, where the sound swaps from the speakers to the earphone and I can't really hear my
ringtone when someone is calling or the volume on different apps is just too low.
I'm quite new to Android and I've been lurking around the internet for hours but it seems the update did fix the speaker issue for every user. I feel like an alien and I do not know what to do.
Shall I re-install the update until it fixes or should I just go to the closest Sony Support in my city? Thank you very much sorry for being this rookie.
Also, I have my BootLoader Locked.

Moto X 4.4.4 Bluetooth Volume low?

Unlocked Verizon Moto X 4.4.4. Just updated this morning and now after getting everything set up I'm trying to play a podcast and bluetooth volume levels are ridiculously low, even after maxing out the volume. Anyone else experience this? Anyone know of any fixes? Tried searching the general, q&a, and apps sections of the moto x forums and got nada and this wasnt an issue for me prior to the OTA update.
I have this problem on my bt headset I use for calls but not my bt headphones I use for music (the Moto s11 flex hd)
Been that way since launch for me though.
the headphone volume is definitely low imo. 4.4.4 was supposed to address that, as i remember seeing that in the changelog. however a quick google found this for the N5:
http://nexus5.wonderhowto.com/how-to/boost-headset-speaker-volumes-your-nexus-5-0154441/
I wonder if something similar can be accomplished for the X.
i constantly have to increase the volume past the "safe warning" message and i don't think it's entirely THAT loud.
Same problem

I received 4.4.4 for my moto x today on Verizon. I got into my car and it automatically connected playing All Access. The volume was substantially low. Bringing the volume up to the level where I get the warning still produced a very low volume.
If I accept the warning and crank up the volume, it seems like the audio is louder yet piercing as if the amplification isn't as powerful as it was before the update.
Anyhow, the Bluetooth volume is definitely an issue for me post 4.4.4 update. You can mess with many things on my phone but please don't fudge up my audio!

sometimes its directly related to the BT device streaming the audio. i know that previous DROID models had issues with streaming at full volume over BT. often times people would back it down one notch to get consistent volume levels.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have adjusted the volume on my moto x between the warning point and the max volume. There really is not much of a sweet spot.
In all scenarios here, My car stereo volume is constantly where it was before the 4.4.4 update.
1) I keep the moto x at the max volume BEFORE the warning. At this point, the output is significantly lower than it was.
2) I find a sweet spot near the maximum volume AFTER the warning. The audio definitely gets louder, but sounds as if I am driving the moto x amp too hard and the sound quality suffers.
I hope this makes sense.
I'm curious to know what happened to the BT driver with this update.

Unfortunately, I'm not rooted. If a hard reset is needed though, I may have to go that route.

Then root it, if you can. Hard reset will do two things only, waste your time and give you some false hope in the process, that's all.

Will do. I'm really curious to know if this is isolated though.
Its hard to quantify. Unless you get a decibel meter and take a reading there is really no way for us to make a good comparison as every has different hearing abilities and different tolerances.

There's really no way I can A-B this since I can't roll back to the previous version. I wish I could.
Trust me when I say that there is nothing subtle about the difference in volume here. It's night/day.

BT audio has "nothing" to do with the audio amp within the moto x. it's ENTIRELY up to your BT device to decide how to handle the audio. BT is not analog and there's no volume setting for digital data. it's all programmatic.
Here is what happened to me:
I was sitting at my desk at work listening to a Joe Rogan podcast over bluetooth, three clicks down from full volume using a jawbone era on stock vzw 4.4.2 software, rooted, unlocked, only mods used were gravity box and mototether. VZW ota file downloaded so I paused my podcast, booted into fastboot, flashed stock recovery, applied ota update. Rebooted back into fastboot, flashed twrp recovery, rebooted back into device. Restarted podcast, bluetooth volume was so noticeably quieter that even turning volume up to max seemed quieter than three clicks down prior to 4.4.4 update.
Obviously I didnt sit down and take decibel readings to justify and measure the difference but my jawbone era with media on max bluetooth volume hurt my ear, I always had to turn the volume down. Now max volume is not enough in some louder environments. This only seems to effect media though, not phone calls...
My bluetooth volume was perfect before upgrading to 4.4.4 today. Now even in max is extremely low.
Edit: seems my headset volume no longer controls the Android bluetooth volume. I cranked that up and now it's good

VIPER4Android fixed the bluetooth audio/music low volume problem. Here is how I got VIPER4Android to work properly: 1. Install iRoot on my laptop. 2. Connect phone to laptop using usb cable and ROOT it using iRoot. 3. Install SuperSU app on phone. 4. Install BusyBox on phone. 5. Install VIPER4Android on phone. On music player on phone, turn off all special effects and equalizer. Let VIPER manage all sound quality settings. It will not work well if you have two EQs competing against each other. You will have to play around with VIPER to get the quality that sounds the best.

Speaker volume much softer than it was when I first got the phone

When I first got my phone music and youtube videos were really loud with the built in speakers. So much so that I had to turn the volume down a little bit for comfort. Now when I make sound it starts out very loud but quickly softens drastically. Like something is trying to auto normalize the sound to a much lower volume.
What bugs me is it used to work great. I'm on the same firmware version and such that I was on before.
Is anyone else having volume issues with their built in speakers?

I'm experiencing this too. I feel like it was designed this way. But I want to see some documentation.
Maybe you're just adjusting to the volume?? Kind of like when a fast car doesn't feel fast anymore.
Are you on a custom rom?
I'm on Stock ROM.
I know it isn't me just getting used to it. When I play some music it is really loud and vibrates my phone noticeably. After about 1 or 2 seconds though it quiets and my phone stops vibrating as much and I have a hard time discerning voices in the sound.
If I pause the video for a few seconds and start again the same thing happens. really loud then quieting.
If I turn down the video all the way then turn it up all the way fast the same things happens. I can feel the vibrations of the sound then they lessen and quiet down.
Interesting. I tried it this morning after a fresh charge and it works great now. I wonder if previously I was always testing at night when my battery was low. Perhaps this is some kind of built in battery savings scheme? When I was experiencing the issue I verified that Battery Savings mode was turned off. But perhaps this is something that auto happens when the battery is low?
I'll have to try again tonight.
I'm starting to have the same issue. Posting here for any updates, and I'll update as well if I figure out what's going on.
Me to guys....I thought I was going nuts today... Every roms got quiet audio and I'm just like wtf...so I flash stock images and STILL its quiet...I'm just wondering if its some kinda power save feature.
i've been looking through the mixer_paths.xml file to see if i can find headphones and speaker values to increase to increase volume and this mixer_paths file is different than what i'm used to with samsung and LG phones. i'm probably missing some values to see because i normally use 920 text editor but that app currently isnt working with android 5.0. has anyone found the values to change the increase volume?
I have the same issue. If i reboot the phone everything sounds great then shortly after the volume drops and its difficult to hear things. This happens evem during calls while using speaker phone. I've looked in all the settings and can not find anything to do with this. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank goodness I'm not the only one! I have this exact issue as well.
So this actually worked on my N6 maybe it will work for yours. After a reboot problem remains. I applied small pressure evenly to the speakers with my fingers and bam problem gone. I seriously hope we don't have bad hardware. Hope this helps you guys as well.
https://forums.motorola.com/posts/add203215b?commentId=837982 If you see Moto's Official forum lot of other people are having this same Issue
Add me to the list thought I was going crazy too
I'm pretty sure it's a software issue. On mine, the volume does the normalization thing, but if I switch orientations it goes back to full volume before dying down again. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
Same issue here. Thought I was loosing my mind. The volume goes down tremendously after starting music via the speakerphone after about 1 or 2 seconds. I have completely reset my phone and toggled the power saving setting and I'm still having this issue. Getting very annoyed.
Same issue here. My battery was down to 4% and the volume started getting lower some times.
Also it seemed like turning the device (display rotation?, gyro sensor?) had to do with it.
I also hear some noise (crackling) when the phone is at full volume and it's not playing music.

Same here with the normalize issue...tempted to send my nexus 6 back to motorola but it was so hard to get this phone
Cant believe google has yet to address this... I hope its a software fix coming.. I cant even really judge the audio bc i cant play anything at max volume smfh

I think it's a software issue. Whenever I notice the phone's volume is lower than it should be, I press volume up and down repeatedly then it goes back to normal. Gets annoying though.
Anyone found a solution for this or it just is what it is? Also notice the volume increases when I rotate the landscape view..then normalizes lower after a few seconds...
I've hard reset....flashed a fresh copy of 5.0.1 still no solution? Could this be a hardware issue?
