I'm really confused, please help - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been trying to read all of the threads about how to root and it's really confusing for someone new to all of this. For example I don't know what safestrap is.
I want to root my galaxy note 3 SM-N900AUCUEOC1 and using android 5.0 so is that lollipop? I read that I have to downgrade to kitkat first, how do I do that?
I downloaded and opened odin and tried to figure out which files to use. I got my samsung kies 3 running correctly from samsung customer support and when I do the PDA (maybe I have the wrong file) I fails. I got scared and pressed up, home, and power and reset it back to normal so I'm back to square one.
There is alot of youtube but I don't trust them. Seem like this is the right place to go but all the threads are really advance and uses language that I can't understand.
From what I understand, first I need to downgrade to kitkat? If so, how do I do that.
Then from there, what is the correct file I need to upload into that AP file?
Please help.

Hey thanks! I read these thread but I don't understand them. Is there a thread that is alittle more watered down with the tech jargon? I have no idea what OC1 is and such...

[Q] How to Extract the VZW Tab files

I think I asked my question wrong on the first post.
Shortly I will have a factory fresh VZW tab. Given that from the posts a number of people are looking for pit files etc ... what tool can I use to extract the files for the VZW tab users ....
Any pointers or threads that I missed? Just hoping to help where I can because I won't leave it stock long LOL.
Thanks,
Tony
You can use roto backup to dump your firmware to odin flashable files. Look it up in the development section.
Thanks, just wanted to make sure I used the best method to grab the files. I will do some reading and make a good backup and share what I am able to pull off for the other VZW Taber's
Just a quick update .... I have the fresh Tab ... so I am going to follow Roto Hammers process for pulling the files and will try to get a heimdall and Odin fresh rom set for VZW Taber's ..... I will also see about hosting the files on my server so that they are available and will see if anyone else wants them as well.
If anyone needs something off a fresh tab ... please post or PM me and I will do what I can.... I'll leave it alone until Tuesday 8/2/11
Thanks again for the pointer!
Tony
Oh god, i hope you are serious about this. My verizon tab is stucked in the samsung logo for 3 weeks now.
You are probably my last chance .
If you can, please, please do it.. You will save a lot of people like me

You do know that the stock sprint roms work too.. to at least get you back up and running (3g doesn't work, but everything else is reported working fine)
Always good to have complete stock to fall back on though.
I heard that the 2.3 sprint firmware works on verizon tab. But i've tried the rooted version of it, which i found here in the forum, but still couldn't boot into the OS, it hangs on galaxy tab screen. Since you mentioned this, can i use the sprint pit file too?
Also, i forgot to mention, my tablet is cdma. Don't know if it makes any difference for using sprint firmware version

Went mj5 to nb4 no prob now to nc2

Hey all. So I was surprised how easy I got to nb4 but like an idiot I thought I was done and applied towel root before going to nc2. So I wanted to get some advice before doing something I shouldn't.
Had rooted mj5 kingo
Unrooted and defrosted all tb apps. Also removed xposed
Allowed Ota to run and it went to nb4 no problem
Applied towel root which worked
I see another Ota. Should I just try installing it? I'm seeing people discuss the nc2 bootloader so I'm not sure if that a bad idea. Also should I unroot somehow before applying the Ota? I don't see the option but I'm sure a way if necessary. Thanks
Just to make sure on the same page, at the moment here is what Im at:
Android 4.3
Baseband NB4
Kernal 3.4.0-1625098
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
Stick with 4.3. If you go to NC2 you can't go back.
why would I want to ever go back though? (not being a ****, its a serious question)
In case you don't like the update. I don't like KitKat because the black/white status bar icons are fugly and battery life is terrible compared to Jellybean. I am a bit biased because I absolutely hate the "update", so your experience with NC2 may vary.
If you really want to get NC2, look for a thread in the general section called "fix for KitKat update without rooting" or something along those lines. I'd link you to it, but I don't know how to copy links with Tapatalk. It should be on the first or second page. It works if you follow the directions exactly as they're written.
Thanks, I found it ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701062 )
I guess what Im a bit confused about is since I was already on MJ5 (well now NB4 after OTA), can I skip to step 4 (Step 4. Extract the Miata_KK_Fix_1.0.zip .... ) from that guide? Basically avoiding odin all together

You can try skipping to step 4, but don't cry if it fails. You've been warned by reading the first paragraph.
" WARNING: IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO START FROM STEP 1 AND FOLLOW EACH STEP EXACTLY HOW I HAVE WROTE IT THEN YOU WILL FAIL. THIS METHOD WORKS IF YOU CAN FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS.
IF YOU DID NOT RESTORE YOUR PHONE AND FOLLOW EACH STEP EXACTLY HOW I LISTED BELOW THEN DO NOT SAY THIS DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU."
I get that but step 1 is all about getting it to MJ5, which mine is already at.
Yes if your update fails start at step 1. Is your update failing? If not, then update it but beware you can't return.
What exactly would cause the bootloader to update to A3? From my reading this is also problematic. Thanks

NC2 update includes the A3 bootloader.

Help! I did something stupid.

I was using safestrap to try and install a custom rom, I wiped my stock rom but my phone ended up dying (I didn't see that the charger wasn't plugged in) now I can't do anything at all. IT just gets stuck on the samsung galaxy s5 logo. I cannot flash any AP I just get an auth failed error. I tried using the G900AUCU3BOC4_OneClick but I get an error on that as well. Please help me. I figured that I don't have an OS to boot into now. And I cant downgrade from 5.0 am I screwed?
So you can't put your phone into download mode and ODIN your old firmware back on to the phone?
Please post everything ODIN shows when you attempt so we can try and help you further. Might want to try flashing with the BL and PIT file as well.
P.S. I don't know what G900AUCU3BOC4_OneClick is, but google took me to
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/att-galaxy-s5-lollipop-update-odin-firmware-80652/
And that doesn't look legit. Make sure you get all of your firmwares from here or sammobile.com. The "Odin" on that page doesn't even look like odin.
at&t s5 active sm-g870a
I was trying to root my phone following instructions on this site.
I installed the NE4 that was about 10+mb.
then I got stuck on the screen with red font that says "android system recovery <3E>"
I can still flash in download mode.
I attempted to install the full NE4 available from this site which is about 2.3 gig and it says FAIL! (Auth)
So then i attempted to load NG3 available from this site and it was sucessful but I'm still stuck on the "android system recovery boot.
Would anyone happen to know where I might get the "G870AUCU280F3 ROM"?
Also does anyone know what NAND erase all does when the box is checked in Odin 3.09?
Im thinking about checking that box and trying again.
for now I'm thrilled that I can still get to download mode and I don't want to mess that up.

thank you so much sir, but i do not understand your post.
I do very little with computers and internets and forums.
I've been scouring this site for the info i need and I'm either not smart enough to know what i'm looking for or this site is so vast that it may take more than a few days to learn how to navigate it.
I will say that I find it unsettling that the forum doesn't seem to recognize that our phones (sm-g870a) even exist, as evidenced by typing s5 active in the equipment box.
but meanwhile i will search for a general section.

I can get into download mode just fine. However, when I try to flash it. I get the fused binary error. Regardless of the firmware.

Squirt,
if you have a question, please submit your own question in this thread instead of hijacking somebody else's question with an off-topic one. I suggest you take XRange's advice and check the "General" section of the "AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5" thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general
Had you checked the general section, you would see that the 4th post down is exactly what you are looking for.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-update-to-g870aof2-5-0-keeproot-t3161733
Also, S5 actives do not need a separate thread, they are identical hardware-wise to the S5.

At this point I recommend you try and use Samsung's Kies software to restore your phone to factory, then you can start over with rooting or flashing roms.
Guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984717
Please note that the link on that page to download kies is broken, so you can find kies here (you will want to download kies3):
http://www.samsung.com/in/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Thank You sean89us, and sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread RobotX, i just figured that if were in the same predicament whatever fixes yours may fix mine.
My bad
kies says it is not compatible with the phone so I had to install a new program which acted like it was going to do the trick. After 3 hours, It quit and told me that it was unable to complete the task.

Note 3 N900A 5.0 Lollipop root problems! Help!

Hey guys!*
First time posting on this site but I'm hoping you guys can help!
I have a Note 3 N900AUCUEOC2 5.0 Lollipop version.
My ultimate goal is to root my Note 3. Since in the past I have rooted my old phones and love it. But with the Note 3, specially the N900a 5.0 lollipop version, it seems hardest to get accurate root instructions for.*
After days of searching over many forums, I came to the conclusion that I need to flash my version (using Odin) Lollipop 5.0 OC2 back to Kitkat 4.4 NC2 and then from there I can use Towel Root to root my device and then upgrade to 5.0 again. So I thought..?
First of all, I backed up all my contacts and apps and everything using Easy Back Up. To my ext SD card an then I removed my ext SD card for safe keeping. Then I downloaded the required (working) Odin N900AUCUCNC2 files. Which was 4 separate files. I then put my phone into Odin Mode and connected to PC and ran Odin with the files selected. Everything went smooth, passed and my phone rebooted.. of course I was expecting a full factory reset with the new version. But when I check the version it says I'm still on 5.0??? And I even tried to fire up Towel Root and it won't even let me go to the site anymore and gives me a 404 error messege. All other sites seem to work tho.
Also to confuse things more, I turned off my phone and put my SD card back in to retrieve my back up and everything else on it. But... there's nothing there! It's complete wiped clean! Which doesn't make sense since I didn't have it inside my phone during the flashing progress.*
So now I basically flashed my phone for nothing and lost all my data in the process.*
I thought I was more computer savy than this but I guess this one stumped me and I could really use your guys help.*
Where did I go wrong and how can I fix it?

sounds like you did everything typically right, but i dont have this device to verify the steps. best to post your question in the note 3 q&a forums for quicker and possibly more accurate answers.
just my opinion, but im betting your sd wasnt wiped, just something wrong with your phone and cant read it, i could be wrong. you could use an adapter and put it in your pc to verify if its clean or not.

its ok to post here, but if your device has its own forums, you will generally get more detailed help there faster

Help me bring my SM-G870A back to life.

So I don't keep up with android news, and I Upgraded OTA to what I believe was 5.1.1 on my S5 Active. Then a few weeks later I accidentally deleted some pictures and saw the best way to recover them was to root the phone. So I thought no biggie I'm sure it's much easier nowadays to root and followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g900and3tong3keeprootota-zip-t2862299
Odin gave me a pass result I was like cool that was easy, but when the phone rebooted it just got stuck at the Samsung Android screen.
I have probably searched every single forum on the internet with every possible keyword to fix my problem, and I just can't find a solution so I hope you guys can help.
The phone goes into download mode and recovery mode and my computer recognizes it., so that gives me a little bit of hope.
My brother has an S5 active as well if this would be of any help. I can't find the 5.1.1 G870A FW on sammobile so is there a way to extract that from another S5 Active on 5.1.1?
I hope someone can help, I did learn the lesson though never buy a phone with a locked bootloader since I'm prone to stupid mistakes like this.
Cheers
Do you know exactly what 5.1.1 version you were on? or what date you received the OTA? I can point you in the right direction for the OTA but I don't know if that will help. I have never repaired a soft brick but if I had the OTA I would load it to my SD card and try to load it in recovery mode. Maybe someone reading this can jump in and tell us if this would work.

This only works if you are already rooted. Can't go back if you are 5.0 or above.
